I am interested in Biology because understanding the fundamental principles of life is key in perusing a career in healthcare. I plan to study biology and earn a bachelor’s degree as my first step towards a DDS degree. Apart from biology being a major prerequisite for the career I strive to peruse, I would say that I am very interested in the subject. Ever since taking my first biology class my sophomore year I’d high school I became very interested in the topic. I liked learning about the human body, the cells, all the way to genetics. This interest ultimately led me to take AP Biology my senior year to make sure that I wanted to commit to studying the topic for the next four years. It is safe to say that I feel in love with the class and getting to know the little details of certain things. In the future I hope to have a strong impact on my patients, I want to provide them the best care possible and make people be confident in their smiles, as I know I was not for a long time. I know that for many people the dentist can be a scary place and I hope to overcome those barriers. I would also like to expand my capabilities and specialize in oral surgery. I want to provide people the safest and most comfortable environment possible, because without the patients happiness and comfortability the work is not done. I would say that throughout my 19 years living my life has been defined by constant change. I come from a family that always strived to give me the best opportunities. That is why we made the difficult decision to come to the U.S. when in 2016, millions of Venezuelans fled the country to escape the growing instability. My mother, with the help of my grandmother, saved up enough money for a one year stay so my brother and I could learn to speak English. , with nothing but three 45 pound suitcases and a shared hope of a better future. What was meant to be a one year stay has now become nine years, nine years that shaped my identity and purpose. These nine years were defined by constant change. With six total moves inside the U.S I learned to adapt. Each time meant starting over: new schools, new friends, new routines. By the time I entered high school, I grew used to change. Now I can say I’ve learned from my experiences, the constant change has allowed me to face different environments and groups of people, it allowed me to become more used to diversity, and it allowed me to be more comfortable with reaching out to others. I am very thankful for all of my experiences and hope to continue learning!
