Going to the University of Northwestern Ohio is important to me because it will help me get closer to the future I want in the skilled trades. I’m interested in painting, welding, and powder coating, but I also want to learn more than just those areas. I started in a vocational high school where I learned hands-on auto repair and refinishing, and that experience showed me I learned best by doing the work. Now I want to take the next step and build on what I already know. At UNOH, I want to keep improving my technique with things like how to inspect a vehicle the right way, understand why something failed, and fix it correctly the first time. College will push me to work harder, manage my time better, and become more independent, which are all things I’ll need to be successful in this field.
I also know UNOH can give me opportunities I can’t always get on my own, like more hands-on lab time, working with the right equipment, and getting advice from instructors who know the industry. Since I already have a background from vocational school, I want to use college to go deeper and get more experience with higher standards and tougher projects. Along with painting, welding, and coating work, I want to learn more about things like basic diagnostics, electrical, shop math/measurements, and how to read instructions and do repairs by the book. I also want to get better at working with others, communicating clearly, and learning how a real shop runs day to day. If I ever want to move up and lead, I know I’ll need those skills too. I also want to work toward certifications that can help me get hired and move up overtime.
Most importantly, I don’t want my education to only benefit me. I want to use it to make a positive impact on the people around me. In a hands-on trade, that starts with doing quality work that people can trust—repairs that are safe, paint work that holds up, and welds that are done correctly. I want to be the kind of person a shop can count on someone who shows up, does honest work, and takes pride in getting the details right. But I also want to be someone who makes the workplace better by having a good attitude, helping the team, and being willing to learn. I plan to give back by helping classmates when they’re stuck, mentoring younger students later in life, and using my skills in my community when I can. UNOH is a big step toward that because it can help me turn my goals into something real and build a future, I can be proud of.

I am passionate about pursuing my career in Automotive medium/heavy duty mechanic at University of Northwestern Ohio. Some important reasons, as a younger child I was always playing with match box cars and monster trucks. I played with them sometime outside even in the mud. Although sometimes they were new and I would get my butt in trouble. But I was always so interested in cars, or trucks and even classic cars and learning about them. Then one day my grandfather took me to see the actual big monster trucks in an arena and from there on out I was hooked. As I got older, I continued to go to our annual Bloomsburg 4-wheel Jamboree and got to meet the truck drivers. Of course, I had to ask questions like how they run and how did they build them. Or how did they get the graphics so detailed. Well then, in my 7th grade year I got to tour this pretty awesome school with so many opportunities. My current school is now Columbia Montour-Area Vocational Technical School; it opened my eyes to excitement about learning. So, I applied my 8th grade year and picked different career classes I would like to try. But to be truthful I already knew I wanted to do something with vehicles. After I got accepted, I went through what was called an exploratory program in my 9th grade year. I fell in love with 2 shops; one was Welding and Autobody repair and refinishing. I picked Autobody repair and refinishing, that is where my experience really begins. My experience with repair and refinishing was great. For some examples I painted my BMX bike flaming fiery red with metalflake, my tenth-grade year I did a Honda civic fender, and I did a Mopar green and a silver. My junior year is where all the fun began, why I say that is because I got my first car and I took off all the chrome trim and painted it matte black. Then my senior year my car was recked on the passenger side fender and I completely brought back the body line and repair and refinished it, then after that I got my first truck and I painted a flag on the tailgate and then after that I painted the grill the same color green as I did for the flag. I will now be going to UNOH University of Northwestern Ohio for medium/heavy duty diesel mechanic and regular auto motive mechanic. So, I can advance my career farther with the mechanical side of automotive vehicles. The skills I think I will bring to the field is already bring some automotive things with me because of being in a body shop. That is what I am passionate about and some skills I think I will bring to the field.

First, I would like to say thank you for offering a wonderful scholarship opportunity to our community. I would like to begin by telling you a little about myself. I am the oldest brother out of 5 boys of my mom and dad. I would like to set the biggest example for them in the near future as we all know time does creep up fast on us all. As a big family we are big into volunteering with "wreaths Across America" for our Veterans. I enjoy getting to listen to their stories or about their life stories from the families and experiences. I also enjoy riding dirt bikes and four wheelers with my brothers when I am not working. We also love mudbogging and I also volunteer with our Bloomsburg 4-Wheel Jamboree because I am very interested in all kinds of vehicles. My current trade throughout high school education has been Autobody and refinishing. I have enjoyed learning about vehicles and painting but I as the years when on I realized I want to further my education so that I can one day own a business. I see my career empowering my future by increasing my skills more on the mechanical side and learning engines and diesel mechanics. I believe it will impact my community here in my hometown as we do not have but 1 full-time garage and I would like to be the next garage to open here in our little town of Orangeville. As a first-generation college student, I would like to say I have one big challenge which most students in this time and age most likely have. As many of you know, living day to day in this time and age financially is difficult with just everyday bills and necessities. But personally, my parents struggle due to having extra expenses because we are a joined family of a total of 7. I have 4 brothers and with me included that is 5 boys for my mom and stepdad. And since 2019 my parents have had extra struggles with needing to afford a lawyer because my 3 stepbrothers were abused by their biological mother several times. It has been very hard on them to afford many things throughout the last several years. As the years continue, they will need to keep fighting for their safety and well-being. To be honest, as the oldest brother it's not easy to watch no matter how much they try to keep it away from us kids. We still see and hear. Both of my parents work full-time and then some just to help keep our house going. But they still struggle from week to week even with me trying to help. But they have taught me small life expenses with paying for my own car insurance and phone bill and gas and anything needed for my vehicle. Again, times are tough and even I do not make enough money as my parents have also put bills aside to help me. My parents did not get approved to get personal loans to help with college. My Pell grant was not enough to pay for my college along with financial aid assistance that was offered through UNOH (University of Northwestern Ohio). I also plan to work for my college to help pay extra expenses along the way throughout my college career. The way I like to say I will overcome this challenge is to keep working hard every day and with that it will pay off in the end.

No, I am not in the foster care system. I would like to start off with thanking you for taking your time to offer such a spectacular scholarship. As a big family we are big into volunteering with "wreaths Across America" for our Veterans. I enjoy getting to listen to their stories or about their life stories from the families and experiences. As of right now I work at Bloomsburg chevy, what I do there is detail vehicles and put them out on the lot. Also, in my spare time there if the guys at chevy that are in the auto tech section need some help I will offer them help. I also enjoy riding dirt bikes and four wheeling with my brothers when I am not working. I have taught my brother how to shift and to put his foot down when turning. What we do when riding is we will line up in the yard and I will count down from three and we will race. I do give him a little bit of a head start because of him not having a clutch and because of me having a bigger bike. We also love mudbogging and I also volunteer with our Bloomsburg 4-Wheel Jamboree because I am very interested in all kinds of vehicles. What I volunteer to do at the four-wheel jamboree is the mud bogs, what I do when I volunteer is the mud bogs, I unhook the trucks if they make it through the mud pit. My current trade throughout high school education has been Autobody and refinishing. I have enjoyed learning about vehicles and painting but I as the years went on, I realized I want to further my education so that I can one day own a business. I believe it will impact my community here in my hometown as we do not have but 1 full-time garage and I would like to be the next garage to open here in our little town of Orangeville. Which will allow people to get their vehicle fixed and detailed for a great price.

I plan use this scholarship to help with any books and or tools needed for my degree. I have been accepted into Automotive with medium/heavy duty diesel mechanics. I plan to use what I learned to better my future by owning my own garage along with getting my CDL license to help advance my career. I want to advance my learning also in business to help me learning how to maintain my own garage in my near future. Learning these skills in hope advance my learning from what I currently have learned in high school with Autobody and Refinishing. So, my main focus to increase my knowledge into the automotive and diesel so I can work on many vehicles. Thank you so much for offering a wonderful opportunity to apply for this scholarship.
