Bio

I am a hardworking, kindhearted, and caring person. I have a life goal to go into the nursing field and explore all opportunities given to me. Some jobs that stand out to me are being an ultrasound technician, OBGYN, and physician assistant. I believe that I am a great candidate for this scholarship because I have demonstrated that I can perform at high levels through athletics and academics. With the challenges I had to overcome moving to my 3rd high school out of state. Because of this I continue to grow and learn within myself. With this scholarship, it will allow me to continue to stay focused towards my goals and being successful in college.

“You’ll be done before you know it”. That’s what almost everyone says before you start high school. At the time I thought that was crazy because, I mean it’s 4 years. Until you’re buying your cap and gown and getting your diploma handed to you. While I'm extremely blessed to be able to graduate and experience all the trials and tribulations in my life, I'll admit it was rough. A time I've had to face adversity was moving around the country during vital times in my life. Let me paint a better picture first, I am a proud black and Mexican female, I’ve played sports my whole life, and have 5 younger siblings. I was born and raised in Nebraska, very random right? Well, I was very comfortable and satisfied with my random like anyone would be. After my freshman year in Nebraska, I attended a high school in California for a couple of years, then moved to Texas my senior year. Heartbreak came quickly for me, I was leaving everything I’ve ever known. From my loved ones, home, friends, school, college decisions, and connections I had worked hard to build. After my freshman year in Nebraska, I blinked and I was in Texas walking the stage to graduate. During these quick 4 years, I was taught many lessons and brought many opportunities. Seeing the light in the tunnel was so hard for me to see because nobody wants to get forced out of their comfort zone and unfortunately, I’ve spent so much time wondering why my parents would put me in these situations. It felt like a punishment. But fortunately, I have overcome adversity by coming to the understatement that it’s okay to outgrow your surroundings. As well as understanding you’ll never know what is possible for you if you don’t step out of your comfort zone. Without the bonus chapters I’ve had, I don’t think I'd be able to adapt to new environments and opportunities the way I do today. To once being a shy and comfortable girl I can confidently say I am now an adventurous and growing young lady. Nobody is prepared for things to get thrown at them but when they hit me I have some experience. I have walked into multiple rooms of faces I have never seen, I have met a plethora of people, introduced myself a million times and so much more. And now with the profession I want to pursue in my future, everything makes sense. Not only has it been a tool to help me achieve my goals in life but also the better person I want to be for myself and others. From these experiences, I have learned that everything truly happens for a reason. I wanted to attend an HBCU for multiple reasons. I grew up in Nebraska as the only black girl in my class of 25 kids. Let alone one of 3 black people in the k-12 school. When I left Nebraska I never knew how big of a difference seeing more people my color would make. I am currently a student at WIley University. I am constantly surrounded by a strong upholding sisterhood of black women. Not only is it empowering but the community, shared experiences, common experiences, and sense of belonging are unreal. Wiley has given me more confidence and ambitions than I ever knew I could hold. The environment of an HBCU not only supports my academic, athletic, and professional growth but also instills the leadership skills I will need to succeed in the future. As I continue to build my career in the business side of the sports industry while also expanding in healthcare, the connections I am creating and the lessons I’ve learned at Wiley will continue to guide me and keep me inspired.
    Sara Jane Memorial Scholarship
Why does the nursing industry interest me as a career choice? The main reason for interest in this study is due to the numerous offers and opportunities you presented with. The countless paths you can take with the end goal of helping people in need. The medical field allows direct impact on the lives of those who need help by offering care and well-being which is perfectly aligned with my interest. The continuous learning, challenges, and the potential lifelong career. I am passionate about becoming a nurse for many reasons. While the most obvious reason comes from my impulse for helping others, becoming a nurse also stems from the deep desire to be there for others in their most vulnerable moments, to provide comfort, care, and support when they need it the most. Nurses have the opportunity to make a huge difference in people's everyday lives. Whether it's giving out medication, comforting a patient, or as simple as being there to listen, they make differences every single day. The thought and ability to positively impact someone's health and well-being with skills that come naturally and my will to continue to learn in this field is incredibly rewarding and fulfilling. After graduating my immediate plans involve starting strong with both my academics and athletics. One goal for a successful career I plan on reaching would be to finish school with a 3.5 GPA in my freshman year of college. As well as having balance when it comes to maintaining my performance in sports which occur on the court, my studies in the classroom, and my outside life with friends and family. I am so incredibly blessed and fortunate to have the opportunity to pursue both in college, and I'm eager to make the most of these chances. Securing this scholarship would significantly ease financial burdens and take off some of the stress I might face. It would enable me to fully commit myself to excelling both on the court and in the classroom. As well as moving multiple times across the United States during high school it has taught me the challenges of starting new. Moving out of state 3 times during high school and meeting new people and new challenges have taught me many lessons that will stick with me as I pursue my future goals. As I grow older the most helpful reminders, I keep in the back of my mind are to make sure I am surrounding myself with the right people and to only take criticism from people you would want to take advice from. With this information I have obtained I am prepared to embrace new challenges to come, and I am eager to start the new friendships and connections as I take on this next chapter of my life! Some past medical experience I have had was volunteering to read to the elders at the nursing home, eat, and keep them company. As well as volunteering at a homeless shelter where I was able to clean, cook, and eat with new people as well.
Raquel Merlini Pay it Forward Scholarship
This scholarship will benefit me both now and, in the future because it will alleviate the stress I may have of figuring out how to pay for my nursing school. As we are becoming limited on doctors in the world, we also are low on black doctors. As a black girl born and raised in Nebraska moved to California, Texas for my senior year, and soon Mississippi for college I can attest to the fact that representation matters. I am the oldest of 5 in my family and I want to be someone my siblings can look up to and be the start of the success that my siblings will follow. As well as ensuring patients under my work will receive the best possible care and support within the healthcare system is edifying. The thought of my nursing education providing a solid foundation to make a meaningful difference in the lives of others and being able to contribute to the advancement of healthcare for all, is a dream that I will make come true! I am passionate about becoming a nurse for many reasons. While the most obvious reason comes from my impulse to help others, becoming a nurse also stems from the deep desire to be there for others in their most vulnerable moments, to provide comfort, care, and support when they need it the most. The thought and ability to positively impact someone's health and well-being with skills that come naturally and my will to continue to learn in this field is incredibly rewarding and fulfilling. Another reason I am passionate about becoming a nurse is the picture I want to leave behind for my siblings. I want to be someone that my siblings can look up to and make my parents proud. With a nursing education, I can leverage my knowledge and skills needed to improve the healthcare of others in a plethora of ways. I will be equipped to provide direct patient care, from performing assessments to administering treatments and educating patients about their conditions and how to manage them effectively. As well as ensuring they receive the best possible care and support within the healthcare system is edifying. I plan on using my education to support my flavorful future to help my family and the people around me. With my education, I plan on searching around the medical field to see what inspires me the most. With a couple of ideas in mind, I'm eager to find what I decide to stick with. I want to use what I decide to go with because the helping will then fall in place. With my dad being a teacher and my mom a nurse, I've grown up always seeing my parents helping out other people. I want to be able to do the same for people in need. Along with helping people in hospitals or whatever setting I also want to be financially set to be able to give back to my parents and hometown for all the support and help they have always shown. Pursuing my passion in the medical field will set me up to be able to do that. I would also be able to give to people outside of the hospital setting, helping people in need is a big goal I see for myself in the future.

I plan on using my education to make a positive impact on society through various ways. As we are becoming limited on doctors in the world, we also are low on black doctors and adults who are a source of comfort to the LGBTQ+ committee. Disney Channel Rewind Scholarship
If there was a crossover episode between my two favorite Disney Channel shows I would choose Jessie and `Austin and Ally. Growing up these were the shows I HAD to have on at all times. I would name the episode "Music, Magic, and Mayhem". It would start with Jessie Prescott finding herself in the heart of Time Square, as she juggles her job as a nanny with the Ross kids, and her dreams of being "the next big thing" in the entertainment industry. Meanwhile, in Miami FL, Austin Moon and his band are getting ready for their latest show at the local music venue. Little do they know they are about to have their worlds collide in the most unexpected ways. Like Austin's manager, Trish always does, she was able to land Austin his gig for him and Ally to perform at. Excited for the opportunity at this high-profile event, the friend group packed their bags and headed down to New York City. However, things take an unexpected turn when their paths cross with Jessie and the Ross kids. It all starts when the youngest, Zuri, she wanders off to Time Square and somehow ends up bumping into Austin Moon. Once the realization hits Zuri and the fact she ran into a pop star she sat there startled. As she senses an opportunity for adventure, she convinces Austin to hang out with her for the day as it would benefit them both with the level of stress they've been introduced to lately. Meanwhile, back at the penthouse, Jessie is in a panic trying to search for Zuri. With the help of all the kids (Emma, Luke, Ravi, and his lizard) Jessie retraces their steps through the city streets. They are yet to be aware of the friendship Zuri encountered with Austin. As the night starts to wind down, Austin and Zuri embark on a whirlwind adventure through New York City, as they visit iconic landmarks and bonding time over their shared love for music. Along the way of their adventure, they encountered challenges and obstacles that tested their courage and resilience. On Jessie's side, Ally Dawson and Trish saw the worry on the kid's face and offered to help out with their situation. Together they tried to track Zuri and Austin down. With the help of Ravi's lizard and Luke's gift of navigation, they start piecing together clues from Zuri's favorite spots. Overlooking the city skyline Austin and Zuri take in all the glory New York has to offer. Just as Jessie's worry peaks, she glances and sees Zuri's luscious curls blowing in the wind and Austin standing right next to her. In relief, Jessie cries out Zuri's name. Once they meet up at the top of the Empire State Building hugs going all around. After getting Austin caught up with the Ross family drama, he kindly thanked Jessie for raising such an adventurous spirit. This crossover episode would end with a rooftop bash where everyone performs under the stars. With the magical end to the night of music and these newly found friendships, everyone is reminded that unexpected connections can lead to the most extraordinary adventures.
