Stephen "Mike" Flinders Agriculture and Animal Care Scholarship
I have had a connection with animals since I was about four years old. I grew up with a cat, multiple dogs, a bunny, and parakeets. As a child, I would often be drawn to animals who would otherwise shy away from humans. I often visited zoos and would interact with animals that would usually avoid humans. I think this connection was deeply nurtured by my Uncle John, who always had a connection with the animals I took after. My uncle John was very into the natural world. I think that becoming a veterinarian would be a fantastic way to honor his memory and to grow my love for animals as well. My vision for my final career aspiration extends beyond the usual boundaries of a traditional veterinary practice. I would like to establish a traveling clinic, a mobile care unit kinda like an ambulance that reaches farmers and people in remote areas, both within the United States and across international borders. This clinic would provide essential veterinary care to those who lack access to urban facilities, ensuring that animals receive the treatment they deserve, regardless of their location. Furthermore, I dream of creating an integrated animal hotel, veterinary clinic, and hospital, a facility that caters to the diverse needs of animals, offering routine care and specialized treatment. I am deeply committed to conservation efforts, particularly those focused on endangered species and the control of invasive populations. I would like to incorporate a breeding program for vulnerable insect species such as the honey bee. I would also like to study ways to balance the human population and the need for natural protected habitats. I envision myself working alongside conservation organizations, utilizing my veterinary expertise to contribute to re-population programs and habitat preservation. I want to be on the front lines, helping to restore ecological balance and safeguard the future of vulnerable species. The veterinary science degree I am pursuing provides the crucial foundation for this career. It will equip me with the knowledge and skills necessary to diagnose and treat various animal ailments. I am overall driven by the desire to provide my animal friends with as much care and adoration as they give us humans. I think that all animals not just man's best friends should get care that matches how much they mean to us regardless of species. In all, my dream is to help all animals. I want to reach places where animal care isn't very common. I would also like to continue to nurture my connection with animals and to make sure that we don't lose the species that we need most.
Our Destiny Our Future Scholarship
My plan to positively impact the world centers around fostering a symbiotic relationship between humanity and nature. My vision has several parts, each designed to cultivate sustainability and resilience, particularly in vulnerable communities.
Firstly, I aim to create tangible "places of peace" through nature. This involves establishing community gardens and green spaces in urban and suburban environments, offering mental and physical well-being sanctuaries. These spaces will not only provide aesthetic relief but also serve as educational hubs, demonstrating the restorative power of natural environments. By integrating native flora and promoting biodiversity, these spaces can become vital micro-ecosystems, contributing to local ecological balance.
Secondly, I am committed to working towards conservation on a broader scale. This includes supporting initiatives that protect endangered species and preserve critical habitats. Leveraging technology and data analysis, I intend to contribute to more effective conservation strategies, ensuring that resources are allocated efficiently and that the long-term health of ecosystems is prioritized. Furthermore, advocating for sustainable practices in industries such as agriculture and forestry is crucial to minimizing our ecological footprint.
Thirdly, I believe in empowering communities by creating environmentally friendly homes and teaching sustainable practices. In poverty-stricken areas, this would look like building affordable, eco-conscious housing that utilizes local, renewable materials. Simultaneously, I plan to implement educational programs that teach individuals how to cultivate gardens for food and income generation. This approach not only addresses immediate nutritional needs but also fosters economic self-sufficiency, reducing reliance on external aid. By promoting techniques such as composting, rainwater harvesting, and integrated pest management, these programs will equip communities with the skills to thrive sustainably.
Finally, and perhaps most importantly, I am dedicated to teaching younger generations the importance of balance between nature and human needs. This involves developing educational resources that integrate environmental science into curricula, fostering a deep understanding of ecological principles from an early age. Through interactive workshops, field trips, and hands-on projects, I aim to instill a sense of environmental stewardship in young minds. By nurturing a generation that values conservation and understands the interconnectedness of all living things, I believe we can ensure a more sustainable future.
Overall, my approach is holistic, integrating ecological restoration, community empowerment, and environmental education. By creating tangible spaces of peace, promoting conservation, and equipping individuals with the tools to live sustainably, I believe we can collectively build a world where human needs are met in harmony with the natural environment.

One day I was playing outside with my siblings and family friend I got the idea to play hide and seek. So I told my siblings to hide and the family friend to be the seeker. I took my bike and hid it behind the house so it looked like I had gone on a bike ride and hid behind our play house. I remember them going in and asking where I was but they couldn't find me at all. So when they noticed that my bike was missing they went on a bike ride to find me. They actually didn't find me and instead I got bored of sitting still.
John Young 'Pursue Your Passion' Scholarship
Growing up as a girl I've faced a lot of challenges. I’ve been told that I would never want to be the one to do the paperwork. I was told that a veterinarian would be boring and I should just go to vet tech school instead. It was only recently that people started to take my ideas seriously and have finally started to fuel my fire.
Growing up I have always wanted to be a veterinarian. I have wanted this since I was four years old. That passion has never changed. I have this passion thanks to many things. I’ve had pets of all kinds. My uncle John raised chickens and a turkey. My family has birds and a bunny. Animals have always been in my life so if I can extend their lives.... Well, I feel that I'm obligated to. The reason I want to be an exotic veterinarian is so I can help all animals. Just like there are doctors who help all humans, I will be a veterinarian that helps all animals. In my final dreams of my career I want to help the animals who are hard to transport. So I would eventually create a traveling clinic for hard to reach animals. For example, cattle, Farmers struggle to get their animals the care they need because they can not bring a sick or pregnant animal to the city.
Another reason I want to be a vet is so I can help the animals in my own life. I have a bunny at home who needs to be fixed but she can not be because no vet in my hometown knows how to fix female bunnies. I want to bring the services my clinic will provide all over the world.
