      Ryan T. Herich Memorial Scholarship
My name is Manuel Serrato De La Torre, I am a sophomore in college. I'm currently in a community college and plan to transfer to Southern Methodist University in the fall of 2023. I want to work on the issues the United States citizens face and help solve world problems. I will run for political roles such as state representative, mayor, governor, and president. I have taken U.S. History courses 1 and 2. I passed both classes with A+. One major thing I have seen throughout history is that politicians leave big political issues to be solved by the next generation. Such as slavery, President George Washington could of work towards the end of slavery, but he thought it was a problem for the next generation to solve. President Theodore Roosevelt did not acknowledge the racial issues and left the issues for the next generation to solve. President Franklin Roosevelt help the economy to get back on its feet, but when it came to racial issues he couldn't do much because U.S. citizens were not ready for change. In addition, women didn't get the right to vote until 1920. Segregation didn't end until 1964. There are many more issues that have been solved but it took time. Time is something the United States does not have, and the issues that the nation is currently facing need to be faced now or it will be too late. Many people want instant gratification, but it's not that easy if we have two political parties disagreeing and arguing with each other making current issues to be solved later. The longer we take to solve the issues the citizens of the United States, more issues will appear. In order to have a functional nation we need to focus on ourselves first and then work on issues from different nations later. In addition, it is necessary to put our political differences aside and work together. I want to start on this as soon as I finish with my bachelor's and master's degrees. I will create a team that will help me with campaigning and finding future leaders who want to solve current political issues. My Ultimate goal is to run for president in the year 2040 and win. I will work towards facing as many political issues and to start an organization that helps high school and college students who want to proceed with a political science pathway. I want to help as many people as possible. I want to leave something that will continue to help people even after I'm gone. it is my life goal to help people whenever I can and to lead, or represent the people who want change for the greater good. I will honor the memory of Ryan T. Herich by doing my absolute best in my classes and in my career even if I do not get the scholarship. Hopefully, with this scholarship, I can pay part of my tuition for the upcoming school year.
