Growing up as a Liberian American with a deep passion for technology, I have faced both personal and societal challenges that have shaped my journey and propelled me toward making a positive impact on the world through my education. One of the main challenges I encountered was the lack of representation and opportunities for individuals from underrepresented communities in the field of technology. As a Black student, I was acutely aware of the disparities that existed and the systemic barriers that hindered the progress of individuals like me. However, instead of succumbing to these challenges, I used them as fuel to drive my determination and commitment to make a difference. To overcome these challenges, I sought out mentors and role models who shared my background and had successfully navigated the STEM field. Their guidance and support provided me with valuable insights and strategies to overcome obstacles. Additionally, I actively engaged with communities and organizations that aimed to increase diversity in STEM, leveraging their resources and networking opportunities to expand my knowledge and opportunities. Through hard work, resilience, and perseverance, I was able to secure a place at Bloomsburg University, where I am currently pursuing a degree in Digital Forensics and Cybersecurity. This educational journey has equipped me with the necessary skills and knowledge to address the complex challenges in the digital landscape and make a positive impact. With my education, I plan to make a difference by focusing on three main areas: representation, community empowerment, and technological advancement. Firstly, I aim to be a role model for aspiring individuals from underrepresented communities, showcasing that they too can excel in the fields of technology. By sharing my experiences, mentoring, and participating in outreach programs, I hope to inspire and empower young minds to pursue their passions in STEM. Secondly, I plan to uplift my community by leveraging my education to provide opportunities for growth and empowerment. This includes initiatives such as affordable access to technology, digital literacy programs, and community-based tech hubs. By equipping individuals with the necessary skills and resources, I aim to bridge the digital divide and foster economic growth, social empowerment, and self-determination within my community. Lastly, I intend to contribute to technological advancements that address societal challenges. In the field of Digital Forensics and Cybersecurity, I will work towards safeguarding our digital infrastructure and combating cyber threats that disproportionately affect marginalized communities. By staying informed about emerging technologies, advocating for ethical practices, and collaborating with experts, I can contribute to creating a safer and more secure digital environment. My personal and societal challenges have shaped my determination to make a positive impact on the world through my education. The decision to pursue a career in STEM is driven by my unwavering passion for innovation and insatiable curiosity about the world around us. From a young age, I have been fascinated by the possibilities that science, technology, engineering, and mathematics offer in terms of understanding and shaping our reality. This fascination has only grown stronger as I realize the immense potential these fields hold to make a positive impact on my community. As a Black student, I am keenly aware of the underrepresentation of minorities in STEM fields. This lack of diversity not only hinders our collective progress but also perpetuates systemic inequalities. By pursuing a STEM degree, I aim to challenge these disparities head-on and serve as a catalyst for change. I want to show young minds from underrepresented communities that they too have the power to excel in these fields and contribute their unique perspectives to address the complex challenges we face. In addition to promoting representation, I recognize that a STEM degree equips me with the knowledge and skills necessary to tackle the specific challenges faced by my community. For instance, in the field of Digital Forensics and Cybersecurity, I will gain expertise in safeguarding our digital infrastructure and combating cyber threats that could disproportionately affect marginalized communities. With this knowledge, I can play a vital role in bridging the digital divide that persists in underserved areas. I envision a future where everyone has equal access to technology and the digital skills needed to thrive in the modern world. Through initiatives such as affordable technology access programs, digital literacy workshops, and community-based tech hubs, I will empower individuals in my community to become digitally fluent and take advantage of the opportunities provided by the digital age. By equipping them with the necessary skills, resources, and support, I can help level the playing field and foster economic growth, social empowerment, and self-determination within my community. Furthermore, I am passionate about inspiring the next generation of Black students to pursue careers in STEM. Through mentorship programs, outreach activities, and partnerships with educational institutions, I will share my experiences and knowledge to ignite their curiosity and guide them along their own STEM journeys. By providing guidance, support, and representation, I hope to inspire and empower young minds to embrace their potential and pursue their passions in STEM fields. My pursuit of a STEM degree in Digital Forensics and Cybersecurity is not just about personal and professional growth. It is a commitment to uplifting my community, dismantling barriers, and driving meaningful change. I firmly believe that by breaking down systemic inequalities, promoting diversity, and leveraging the power of STEM, we can create a future where everyone has equal opportunities to thrive. With passion, dedication, and an unwavering belief in the transformative potential of STEM, I am determined to make a lasting positive impact on my community and contribute to building a more equitable and inclusive society for all.

One of the extracurriculars I do is being part of the Lower Makefield Police Explorers, and last summer, I was on a ride-along that I'd never forget. The muffled static on the radio relayed a road accident at an intersection of the township's urban side. Officer Reeves immediately stepped on the gas, and we were on the scene within minutes. EMTs had already arrived, and I could hear the loud sirens of fire engines approaching in the distance. I've never seen an accident so gruesome; the damage done was too intense for words. All I could see remaining were two tiny boxes of metal and a fist of grey smoke billowing up from the wreckage. I focused my attention on the Emergency Services Personnel, as they work seamlessly in a dynamic environment to meet a common goal. Due to the high level of care provided by the first responders, there were no fatalities. These professionals worked diligently while also caring for their patients, even in the most uncertain and challenging times. Witnessing this made me want more out of the human experience, like any young person with a wondrous will. Every day is a new challenge for these individuals at the forefront of each incident or disaster. I marvel when I think of my journey step by step someday, ensuring the population's safety and well-being like these responders. Though, I'd like to take it farther beyond Emergency Services. Upon graduation, with a Bachelor's of Science in Digital Forensics at Bloomsburg University, I'll be able to do this and more on a broader scale. I would have the opportunity to protect people and even their information and assets from human-made and national security threats. Furthermore, I aspire to someday work in a federal agency like the FBI, for example. I plan to use my Digital Forensics expertise within the Cyber Security Division that agencies like the FBI foster. However, African-Americans make up 11.3 percent of the FBI workforce, and only 4.6 percent are special agents. Having more people of color in this role can inspire upcoming generations, even if it's predominantly white-based. Black students must combat these statistics and be encouraged to obtain positions like these to combat the repressive barriers that face our community. The architectural agenda I've set forth for myself is daunting and, without hesitation, achievable. Craving efficiency and progress have always been essential for learning to me. When my mom started to get fewer hours of work due to COVID-19, times began to get hard navigating through the situation. It took a toll emotionally and financially for us. Hectic days of coming home, my mom would tell my sister and me that higher education is essential for a further glimpse of what we can be. An opportunity like a scholarship would accommodate these attributes and vital energies, relieving my family's financial stressors.
