My life goal is to build a career in logistics, because I am passionate about how planning, organization, and problem-solving can make systems more efficient. I enjoy finding solutions, improving processes, and making sure that everything runs smoothly. What excites me the most about logistics is the way it connects people, products, and opportunities across the world.

American Dream Scholarship
For me, wealth or fame isn’t what defines the American Dream. Working hard, learning steadily - these open doors regardless of background. Freedom shapes it: chasing aims despite setbacks matters most. A life built on effort carries quiet promise, steady growth. Hope stays woven into each choice made freely.
Alone, I landed in New York back in 2023 - no family nearby. The idea of the American Dream? It's shaped by what I've lived. Starting fresh in another country when you're still so young brings real challenges. A new tongue to speak, schools that work differently, surroundings unfamiliar - all needed getting used to. At times, life piled up so high it was hard to see ahead. Still, pushing through shaped a quiet strength inside. Each stumble somehow led to seeing chances where before there seemed only walls.
School matters more than ever in how I see life here. Doors open, chances appear - learning makes that happen. A twelfth grader now, each day means effort, knowing today shapes what comes next. Tough moments come, still I keep moving toward what I aim to reach. Giving up? Not part of the plan, not when results need time, energy, steady hands.
Success isn’t handed out based on where you start, at least not in theory. Elsewhere, luck often decides what doors stay shut. Here though, even when things feel stacked, hard work carries weight. That idea sticks - today doesn’t write tomorrow.
Success means more than just reaching your own goals. Helping those around you matters just as much. Earning a college diploma stands out among my plans. A solid job could follow. That path would let me lift up relatives who need help. It might inspire people dealing with tough situations too. Barriers exist, yes. They do not always win.
Getting the American Dream Scholarship means I can stay in school, one step nearer to what I want. Money help takes away roadblocks lots of learners hit on the way to college degrees. What hits harder is knowing someone sees the work I put in - keeps me going, like a nod mid-stride.
Home ownership might define success to one person. Yet another could chase building something on their own. My version lives in chances handed out fairly. Learning deeply shapes what I aim for. Money steady enough changes everything slowly. Future built piece by piece matters most. Starting line never set in stone here. Effort pulls you ahead each day anyway.
Hard times shaped my path, yet they deepened my trust in what America promises. Each hurdle passed moved me nearer to where I aim to be. For this reason, that promise means turning wishful thinking into something real.

Alone in New York by myself since 2023 - that shift hit harder than expected. Family gone, routine erased, every comfort swapped for unknowns when stepping into another nation. A fresh start, yes, but also classrooms where words felt foreign, rules confusing, customs strange. Life off campus brought its own puzzles: figuring out trains, meals, timing - all without backup. Tough? Definitely. Yet each hurdle shaped grit, self-reliance, a quiet drive to keep moving forward anyway.
One step at a time, learning shapes the world I aim to live in. Knowing more means new paths appear - options open up, lives shift because of it. While studying through high school, effort mattered most when things got tough. Focus stayed steady even when distractions grew louder. Each hurdle met along the way added weight to why college matters now. Growth comes quietly sometimes, yet it pushes forward just the same.
What drives me comes down to one thing: supporting immigrant youth struggling to find their footing in a new place. Arriving in the United States opened my eyes - suddenly, things like class registration or applying for aid felt confusing, even intimidating. Talent and drive are common among these students, yet guidance? That too often slips through the cracks. My path taught me what it means to navigate systems without a map. So now, stepping forward feels less like choice, more like returning something valuable that was once missing. Confidence doesn’t come from having answers - it grows when someone walks beside you. Helping others reach their goals simply makes sense, given where I’ve been.
One step at a time, learning shapes how I see what’s possible. Helping others often begins with just showing up, so guidance matters - it could be through mentoring or volunteering. A single chance can shift someone’s path forward. Success feels fuller when shared; lifting others builds something wider than individual wins. When people rise together, neighborhoods hold more strength.
Out of everyone, it is my family - along with those who stood beside me - that lights a quiet fire under my feet. Miles mean nothing when love keeps showing up; theirs does, every single day. What they gave up echoes in how I move through challenges now. Teachers, advisors, mentors - they showed up too, without fanfare, offering pieces of wisdom at just the right moment. Small moments with them added up, revealing how much a few honest words can shift a person's entire path.
A world ahead where each learner finds what they need - no matter family roots, papers, or money - is what shapes my hope. Support grows when spaces let youth step forward without fear, building skills and giving back in ways that matter. What matters shows up not in speeches but in who gets to try.
Getting this scholarship opens doors I’ve been working hard to reach. Without it, moving forward feels heavier somehow. Still, the chance to keep learning means more than personal success ever could. Helping people who struggle like I did becomes possible through what I study now. My path isn’t just about degrees or titles - it’s shaped by who gets lifted up along the way. Education turns into something bigger when it serves others too. That kind of change starts small, often quiet, yet never truly ends.
First Generation College, First Generation Immigrant Scholarship
Back home, life shifted when we landed in a new country. That change lit something steady inside me - quiet but strong. New words surrounded me each day, unfamiliar ways of living pressed close, school felt like learning twice at once. Helping my family became part of my rhythm, not separate from who I was. Each step forward took focus, sure, but more than that - it took showing up again and again. The road never smoothed out much, so I learned to walk it anyway.
Every step they took without degrees lit a quiet fire in me. They never got to walk a campus yet gave everything so things would be different. Watching them push through tough days made aiming for university feel necessary, not just wanted. On my own when it came to applications and classes, I learned how to handle confusion without asking for help. Their effort shaped my path even when no one was guiding me forward.
Life has shown me what matters most - building chances for myself while lifting up those around me. Because of where I’ve been, doing well in school and work isn’t just personal. It means being someone others can look to when things feel out of reach. Helping people who've walked paths like mine becomes real through steady progress. What feels hard now can become proof later that change happens.
Focused on my goals, I’ll feel less pressure about money thanks to this support.

College means something deeper than classes to me - shifting my path changes everything for generations ahead. Coming from Guinea shapes what I carry each day: lessons built through difficulty, moments that taught duty, ideas about winning redefined by survival.
Back home in Conakry, Guinea, chances to build something steady rarely come easy. When politics turned rough and I lost my dad in 2022, everything shifted overnight. Mom carried the load on her own, stretching every bit she had. Still, through thin days and long struggles, one idea stayed strong - school might open doors nothing else could. Because of that quiet certainty, I ended up in the United States.
Starting fresh in another country brought unknowns - different words to speak, customs to adjust to, life to shape all over again. Tough as it was, those moments built grit inside me, pushed me to keep moving forward. Right now, school takes place at the Brooklyn Academy of Science and the Environment, where attention stays sharp, eyes set on growing knowledge step by steady step.
College opens doors, yet it brings duty too. My mom chose to let me go, a hard choice, because she wanted better for me. That weight stays with me, shaping every step forward. Being part of an underrepresented group makes each achievement feel louder. Education becomes more than study - it turns into defiance. Success isn’t just personal, it challenges what people expect. Each class attended pushes past old limits quietly placed there by others.
One day, studying helps me step into logistics and supply chain work. Moving things smoothly between places catches my attention, especially how it shapes towns and money flows. Learning what matters in running systems gives me tools for fixing actual issues while playing a part in worldwide exchange.
Truth is, school means more than grades to me. Helping my family matters, so does opening doors for others, yet showing kids like me it’s possible feels heavier. Starting poor? Doesn’t lock your fate - push hard, learn constantly, life shifts. What I’ve gained isn’t just knowledge, but fuel to lift others.
What drives me isn’t simply wanting a degree. This journey means breaking ground - opening doors where there were walls before. Each step forward pulls light into places that stayed dark too long. Progress here doesn’t stop with one person. The route carved today shapes what others will walk tomorrow.

My name is Mamadou Malal Balde and I am 17 years old. I was born in Conakry, Guinea on March 20th, 2008. My life has not been easy, but every one of the difficulties I faced made me stronger and more determined to achieve my objectives. I lost my father in December 2022. It was the most challenging time in my life because I lost the person who always supported me. My mother is still alive but could not provide for me emotionally or financially. I had to struggle after my father passed away. I had to seek food and survive each day. Through a very young age, I learned how hard life could be, yet gained the importance of hope and resilience. It was in 2023 that I decided to leave Guinea and pursue a good future. I traveled through seven countries before finally being able to reach the United States on September 27, 2023. The journey was very difficult, but I never gave up. I was sure that coming to America would give me the opportunity to learn, grow, and build the future that I had dreamed of. When I arrived in America, my uncle, Ibrahima Balde, welcomed me. He gave me a place to sleep, food to eat, and the chance to go to school. For the first time in my life, I felt truly cared for. My uncle gave me the love and attention that my parents withheld from me. He not only became my guardian, but also my mentor who leads me physically and mentally. I am grateful to him for everything he has done for me and I hope I can repay him for his kindness in hard work. I am now a high school student in New York. After immigrating here, I have found great interest in supply chain management and logistics. I believe that this field is very important as it unites people and countries of the world through commerce and transportation. Logistics allows individuals to have access to the commodities they need and allows businesses to grow. My dream is to study logistics in college and become a supply chain manager for a multinational corporation. I would like to use my knowledge to improve systems and create opportunities for individuals, especially young people in Guinea who have many barriers. My biggest challenge currently is financial. My uncle do not have the money to pay for tuition fees, living expenses, and other expenses. Despite this, I am firmly convinced that education is the gateway to a better future. I would like to continue studying, work hard, and become a productive citizen. That is why I am seeking this scholarship. It would allow me to carry on my education without worrying about how to finance it. It would be a chance for me to fulfill my dream and develop a career where I would be an asset. Most importantly, it would allow me to turn my adversity into strength and utilize my experience to inspire and assist others who are facing difficulties. Thank you for reading my application. I shall do my best, stay committed, and make the most of this chance not only for myself but also for others.

My name is Mamadou Malal Balde, and I am 17 years old. I was born on March 20th, 2008, in Conakry, Guinea. My life has been marked by many struggles, but each one has made me stronger and more determined to succeed.
In December 2022, I lost my father, the greatest support in my life. After his death, my mother could not care for me emotionally or financially. I had to fight to survive each day, yet I learned resilience and the importance of hope.
My family and I also faced persecution in Guinea because of our political and ethnic background. My uncle, a member of the UFDG, was tortured and arrested many times. I too was beaten, threatened, and lived in fear. In September 2023, I left Guinea with my mother and uncle and, after traveling through several countries, entered the United States on September 27, 2023.
When I arrived, my uncle, Ibrahima Balde, welcomed me, gave me food and shelter, and allowed me to attend school. For the first time, I felt safe and cared for. He became not only my guardian but also my mentor, guiding me both physically and mentally. His support motivates me to work hard and honor his sacrifices.
Now, I am a student at a New York high school. I have developed an interest in logistics and supply chain management, a field that connects people and nations through commerce and ensures communities have access to what they need. My dream is to earn a degree in logistics, become a supply chain manager in a multinational company, and create opportunities for young people in Guinea who face the same challenges I once did.
My greatest obstacle today is financial. My uncle cannot afford tuition or living expenses, yet I believe education is the key to a better future. A scholarship would allow me to pursue my studies, turn adversity into strength, and inspire others who are struggling.
Thank you for considering my application. I am determined to work hard, remain committed, and use this opportunity not only for myself but also to help others.
Sincerely,

I am now a high school student in New York, and I have developed a strong interest in supply chain management and logistics. This field excites me because it connects people and countries through trade and transportation. My dream is to study logistics in college and become a supply chain manager for a multinational corporation. I want to use my education to improve systems and create opportunities for young people in Guinea.
My biggest challenge now is financial. My uncle cannot afford tuition and expenses, which is why I am seeking this scholarship. It would allow me to continue my education, pursue my dream, and turn my struggles into strength while inspiring others to do the same.
Sincerely,
Mamadou Malal Balde
Bick First Generation Scholarship
My name is Mamadou Malal Balde and I am 17 years old. I was born in Conakry, Guinea, on March 20, 2008. My life has not been easy, but every challenge I faced has made me stronger and more determined to achieve my goals. I believe that difficulties are not meant to break us but to teach us how to be resilient and to keep moving forward with hope.
In December 2022, I lost my father. It was the most painful and difficult time in my life because he was the person who always supported me. My mother is still alive, but she could not provide for me financially. After my father’s passing, I had to struggle for survival. I searched for food, faced loneliness, and fought to continue every day. At a very young age, I understood how hard life could be, but I also learned the value of perseverance. That experience shaped me into someone who refuses to give up.
In 2023, I decided to leave Guinea to pursue a better future. I crossed seven countries before finally arriving in the United States on September 27, 2023. The journey was long, exhausting . I believed that America would give me the opportunity to learn, grow, and build the life I had always dreamed of.
When I arrived, my uncle, Ibrahima Balde, welcomed me into his home. He gave me food, a safe place to sleep, and most importantly, the opportunity to go to school. For the first time in my life, I felt cared for and supported. My uncle has been more than a guardian—he has been a mentor and role model, guiding me both physically and emotionally. I am deeply grateful for his generosity, and I hope to repay his kindness through hard work and success.
Today, I am a high school student in New York. Since immigrating here, I have developed a strong interest in supply chain management and logistics. I believe this field is essential because it connects people and countries through trade and transportation. Logistics helps businesses grow and ensures that people receive the resources they need. My dream is to study logistics in college and eventually become a supply chain manager for a multinational corporation. I want to use my knowledge to improve systems and create opportunities for young people in Guinea who face barriers similar to mine.
My greatest obstacle now is financial. My uncle does not have the resources to pay for my tuition, living expenses, and other educational costs. Despite this, I remain convinced that education is the key to a brighter future. That is why I am applying for this scholarship. It would allow me to continue my studies without fear of financial hardship, turn my struggles into strength, and inspire others who face difficulties.
Thank you for considering my application. I promise to stay committed, work hard, and make the most of this opportunity not only for myself but also for others.
Sincerely,
