Bio

Hi, my name is Malik Bridges. I am now a second semester college sophomore at Columbus State University where I major in nursing. I have just been accepted into the BSN Nursing program, in which I start this upcoming fall semester (As a Junior). After graduating the BSN program my goal is to pursue further education to become a Physician Assistant (PA). With my second year of school coming to a close, I am glad to say that I was able to join the resident gospel choir where I was able to continue my passion for Jesus with a plus-- it was all for the Lord. I am now looking forward to the adventure ahead.

    Noble E. Gagucas Nursing Scholarship
My name is Malik Bridges, I am a second-semester college sophomore at Columbus State University. I have just been accepted into the BSN Nursing program here at my school; I am very excited to start this upcoming fall (As a junior). During my time here at Columbus State University, I was granted the opportunity to be a part of the resident Gospel Choir (Creations Gospel Choir). I was involved in the choir for a total of 4 semesters, the last two of which I walked in a leadership role (Vice president). Sadly, the organization came to an abrupt end; Nevertheless, I am beyond grateful for all of the growth I experienced as a not only member of the choir, but also as a leader. I am a strong believer in GOD (JESUS CHRIST), and being a part of such a great organization helped me develop my personal love and devotion to GOD (JESUS CHRIST). Furthermore, this semester marks the second semester that I have been working as a resident assistant (RA) here at Columbus State University. I have been set in charge of an entire residents hall, in which I not only look out for the safety of residents but also work to make sure that they enjoy their college experience. As a Residents Assistant (RA) I am tasked with the duty of “event planning”; every month I plan two events for my residents alongside other employees doing the same. The events are placed in two categories: Passive & Active, Passive events are events that I throw for my residents where I don't have to physically be present for the event to run, for example, I could make gift baskets and notify my residents to come by the resident's office and take one. Contrarily, Active events are events that require my physical presence for the event to run, for example, I could throw a movie night, which requires my presence as a supervisor of the event. Being an RA has grown me in my leadership skills tremendously. With my degree in Nursing, I seek to not only work as a Registered Nurse but to continue my education by pursuing a certification to work as a Physician Assistant (PA). Where I will work hands-on with diseases and cures. My goal through all of this is to spread the light of JESUS in my professional work field by helping those in need.

I grew up in downtown Atlanta where the education was not the best but thanks to my mother we were moved into a county with a better education system. I live with my single mother who has been my solid parent for my whole life , my mom has been my rock, protecter, provider etc . Growing up with a single mother I could do nothing but dream of someday helping her out and repaying her for all she has done for me and what better way than becoming successful in something I love and taking care of my mother. While I know this journey to success won’t be easy I am not frightened for my faith is stronger than my fear. A side factor about me ; I am a Christian!!! Who strives for a relationship with god. While I know this journey to success won’t be easy I am not frightened for my faith is stronger than my fear. For the past few month's my life has been more than ever stressful; Knowing that college is right around the corner I have been trying to complete every requirement for my colleges. The biggest struggle in all of this is the SAT; Excelling in reading and writing the load is lightened but not doing so well in math the load is now added back but much stronger in return I've had this feeling of sadness. mentally I want to give up but spiritually I long to keep trying. Getting a college education is of the utmost importance to me, Not only do I need to attend college for my dream degree but me attending college will be breaking a family cycle of finishing education with a High school diploma. My family is so proud to see that ill be attending college soon, furthermore, they have been the support system I've longed for. As it is known this will be my first time experiencing college but the beauty of it all is it will be the first for my family as well it's something we'll experience together. A typical day or week for me outside of school is mostly work, in contrast, I also spend time hanging out with friends or speaking to them via phone. I try my best to make a perfect mix of both because while I believe work is an important part of life so is being social, being social plays a big part in my life; I deeply enjoy talking and spending time with the ones I love. during this time homework is still very present and I have to incorporate that into my days outside of school. most times I have after school activities that I attend like performances, club meetings, etc Finding things to do outside of school that sparks my curiosity is not a huge challenge. I am in a duo singing group that I and my best friend started to showcase and spread our love for music. In my life, I'm always busying whether that's hanging out and having a good time or just sitting in my room doing scholarship essays. Thank you so much for allowing me to be a part of this scholarship while I hope I win! Whoever wins deserves it, Have a great evening.
