I envision leveraging my accounting education to create a positive impact in the business world by combining technical expertise with a commitment to ethical leadership, mentorship, and community empowerment. Accounting is often seen as a numbers-driven field, but I view it as a tool for transparency, accountability, and growth—both for businesses and for the people they serve. My goal is to use my knowledge to help organizations operate efficiently, make strategic decisions, and create sustainable value while also fostering inclusive environments that empower employees and communities. My interest in accounting grew from hands-on experiences that exposed me to the broader business ecosystem. While many students interested in accounting typically pursue internships at accounting firms, I took a different path through my work with Battle Creek Unlimited, an economic development agency. There, I was able to see firsthand how businesses operate on a local and global scale. I learned about foreign trade zones, retention visits across diverse industries, and the behind-the-scenes processes that keep companies thriving. These experiences confirmed my desire to specialize in accounting while also showing me that financial expertise can drive meaningful, real-world outcomes beyond balance sheets. In the business world, I want to leverage accounting to promote ethical practices and transparency. Businesses that maintain clear and honest financial records not only comply with regulations but also build trust with stakeholders—employees, customers, investors, and the broader community. By ensuring integrity in financial reporting, I hope to contribute to companies that operate responsibly and make decisions that benefit all parties involved. Additionally, I aim to use accounting as a lens to identify opportunities for growth, efficiency, and innovation, helping businesses adapt strategically in a rapidly changing global market. Beyond corporate impact, I want to use my accounting knowledge to empower the next generation. Financial literacy is a skill that can transform lives, yet many young people lack access to it. I plan to mentor youth and create programs that introduce students to personal finance, investing, and the fundamentals of accounting. By combining my professional expertise with mentorship, I can help young people understand the importance of financial responsibility, inspire career interest in finance, and equip them to build generational wealth. My ultimate vision is to foster an environment where business success is paired with community empowerment and ethical leadership. In the long term, I hope to pursue a master’s in forensic accounting, further expanding my ability to investigate financial discrepancies and prevent fraud. This specialization will allow me to promote justice and accountability within organizations, ensuring that financial systems are not only efficient but also fair and transparent. In this way, my education in accounting will serve as a platform for integrity-driven leadership, sustainable business practices, and community advancement. In summary, I see accounting not merely as a career but as a tool for impact. By combining technical expertise with ethical responsibility, mentorship, and a commitment to community growth, I aim to create a positive influence in the business world—helping organizations thrive while empowering individuals to achieve financial literacy, stability, and opportunity. Through this approach, I hope to demonstrate that the true value of accounting extends far beyond numbers—it lies in the difference it can make in people’s lives.

I come from a single-parent home where I've learned that stretching a dollar isn't because of frugality, it's a necessity of survival. My mom- a master's Level Social Worker, also the first-generation student of her immediate family, was the balancing factor for our household's stability. While she only worked Monday through Friday, her work hours extended well beyond the traditional 9-5 work schedule as she juggled multiple jobs, often leaving one to travel to another, only to come home, and still find energy to take care of us. Some nights I'd see her at the kitchen table, bills everywhere, tediously scouring every line to ensure it fits the monthly budget-sometimes it did not, and it became an added document in the negotiable pile of unbalanced spreadsheet abyss. I didn't know it then, but that's where I started learning about accounting. Numbers made sense to me in a way words did not; they had rules and a structure that didn’t change. Equating numbers quickly became my strength- while reading comprehension and writing grew harder. I’d go over syllabus instructions for writing assignments several times, only to learn on my graded rubric, I missed the mark. With the help of teachers, online tutors, and my mother, I slowly chipped away at the mountain of defeat I felt inside- needless to say, progress came in inches, and although I have not mastered it, I learned that consistency is key to conquering defeat. At home, I’m the oldest, so I help my mom with household tasks, bills and budgets; in addition, I support my brother with homework. Balancing that with school, and volunteerism, hasn’t been easy, but it’s required me to be organized and dependable. It’s also taught me that leadership is executed best by example. My freshman year is when I became laser focused on financial literacy; my junior year- I joined my high school's Distributive Education Clubs of America chapter and was elected to serve as both Vice President and treasurer and was able to fundraise and balance our accounts. Tragedy struck in 2019, with the sudden passing of my great- grandmother, a woman who not only single handedly raised my mother, but awas also the matriarch of the family. She, like many others, felt that estate planning was only for the wealthy, and although my mother was able to convince her to create a will, her death was the catalyst to the financial illiteracy awakening none of us knew we needed. Without having a trust, her estate was subject to Probate court, creditors, and the estate recovery act, which left our family stuck in a tangle of legal and financial headaches. Watching my mom navigate the estate planning process, grieve, and manage her own home- alone, was painful. That experience is what triggered my drive to become financially literate to someday become the financial advisor our family could rely on. My local church – New Level Sports Ministries- has also played a significant role in shaping me into the young lady I’ve become. There, I’ve tutored kids, ran events, and worked in various positions within the ministry, most notably, a food service manager with Big League Concessions- our food business. One year, I was tasked to compare costs between repairing or food trailer versus purchasing a food truck. I know understand that accounting doesn’t just involve numbers, it involves decision making and a delivery of service. With my accounting degree, I will generate multiple streams of revenue for my family legacy and host workshops teaching financial literacy for others to build generational wealth-transforming it from a dream into a reality.
