Growing up, I struggled immensely with social anxiety, which made everyday interactions feel like daunting challenges. Simple tasks like ordering food or engaging in small talk with strangers would leave me feeling overwhelmed and apprehensive. However, everything changed when I started working at Chick-fil-A. At first, the thought of interacting with countless customers on a daily basis seemed like a nightmare, but as I settled into my role, I began to realize the transformative power of pushing past my comfort zone. With each passing day, I grew more confident in my ability to communicate effectively and connect with others. The constant stream of customers forced me to adapt and think on my feet, responding to a wide range of questions and concerns in a clear and respectful manner. As I honed my communication skills, I started to notice a profound shift within myself. I felt more self-assured and capable of navigating complex social situations, both in and out of the workplace. My experience at Chick-fil-A taught me the value of empathy, active listening, and patience – essential skills that have benefited me greatly in my personal and professional life. Moreover, working in a fast-paced environment with a diverse group of colleagues helped me develop strong teamwork and problem-solving skills, which have been invaluable in my journey towards becoming a more confident and well-rounded individual. On a personal level, my family has been going through a challenging time, as my parents are struggling to make ends meet while trying to purchase a new home. With multiple siblings to provide for, the financial burden can be overwhelming at times. However, my job at Chick-fil-A has not only helped me build confidence but also provided a much-needed source of income for my family. Being able to contribute financially has given me a sense of purpose and responsibility, which has further boosted my self-esteem. Looking back, I am grateful for the opportunity to work at Chick-fil-A, as it has played a pivotal role in shaping me into a more confident and articulate person. The skills I've acquired and the experiences I've had have been instrumental in helping me overcome my social anxiety and develop a more positive self-image. As I continue to grow and evolve, I am excited to apply the lessons I've learned to new challenges and pursue my goals with renewed confidence and determination.

As I reflect on my personal and professional journey, I am reminded of the profound impact that a simple act of kindness can have on someone's life. My passion for creating a welcoming and comfortable environment for individuals in healthcare settings stems from my own experiences and the lessons I've learned along the way. Growing up, I was always drawn to roles that allowed me to interact with people and make a positive difference in their lives. One of my earliest experiences in customer-facing service was working at Chick-fil-A, where I learned the value of providing exceptional care and attention to detail. Despite facing challenges and adversity in that role, I persevered and grew as an individual, developing essential skills that have stayed with me to this day. Those skills, combined with my innate passion for helping others, have fueled my desire to create a positive impact in the healthcare industry. I believe that every individual deserves to feel welcome, comfortable, and supported when visiting a doctor's office or hospital. To achieve this, I plan to focus on fostering a culture of empathy, compassion, and understanding within healthcare settings. By actively listening to patients' concerns, addressing their needs, and providing personalized care, I aim to create an environment that feels more like a haven than a hospital. Furthermore, I recognize the importance of addressing the unique needs and concerns of diverse patient populations, including those from culturally and linguistically diverse backgrounds. By promoting cultural competency and sensitivity within healthcare settings, I hope to bridge the gap between patients and providers, ensuring that every individual receives the care and respect they deserve. Ultimately, my goal is to revolutionize the way healthcare providers approach patient care, shifting the focus from mere treatment to holistic, compassionate support. By doing so, I believe we can not only improve patient outcomes but also create a more positive, supportive, and inclusive healthcare environment for all. Through my journey, I have come to realize that even the smallest acts of kindness can have a profound impact on someone's life. As I move forward in my pursuit of creating a positive impact in healthcare, I am reminded of the wise words, "Treat others the way you want to be treated." By living these words and spreading kindness, compassion, and understanding, I am confident that we can create a brighter, more supportive future for all individuals interacting with the healthcare system.

Taking care of my little brother Mason has been one of the most rewarding experiences of my life. Although I'm not a teen mom, being a big sibling has given me a unique perspective on caregiving and has ultimately inspired me to pursue a career in nursing. At first, I was hesitant to take on more responsibilities, but as I started helping out with Mason's daily needs, I realized that I was capable of so much more than I thought. From feeding and bathing him to putting him down for naps and soothing his tantrums, I quickly learned the ins and outs of childcare. But it wasn't just about completing tasks - it was about showing Mason love, compassion, and patience. As I cared for him, I began to understand the importance of empathy and kindness in building strong relationships. I saw how a simple smile or hug could brighten Mason's day, and I realized that these small gestures could have a profound impact on someone's life. As I navigated the ups and downs of caregiving, I discovered that I had a passion for helping others. I enjoyed being able to make a difference in Mason's life, no matter how small it seemed. And as I watched him grow and thrive, I knew that I wanted to continue making a positive impact on people's lives. That's when I started considering a career in nursing. I knew it wouldn't be easy, but I was drawn to the idea of being able to care for people in a more profound way. I wanted to be able to provide comfort, support, and healing to those who needed it most. And as I began to explore the field of nursing, I realized that my experiences caring for Mason had provided me with a solid foundation. I had developed strong communication skills, learned how to prioritize tasks, and become comfortable with the idea of advocating for someone else's needs. But most importantly, I had discovered a sense of purpose and fulfillment that I had never experienced before. As I prepare to embark on this new journey, I am filled with excitement and gratitude. I am grateful for the opportunity to care for Mason and for the lessons I've learned along the way. And I am excited to see where this new path will take me, knowing that I have the skills, passion, and dedication to make a real difference in the lives of others.

I still chuckle when I think about the time I turned an awkward class debate into a fun conversation. It was one of those moments where I decided to throw caution to the wind and just be myself, facial expressions and all. We were discussing a contentious topic, and the atmosphere in the room was tense. People were taking turns presenting their arguments, but it felt more like a series of monologues than a genuine discussion. That's when I decided to shake things up. I took a deep breath, relaxed my shoulders, and let my reactions shine through. As my classmate presented her argument, I listened intently, nodding my head and making supportive noises. But when she dropped a particularly compelling statistic, my eyes widened, and I let out a dramatic "wow!" The room fell silent for a moment, before erupting into a chorus of laughter. It was as if the tension had been broken, and we could finally breathe again. From that moment on, the debate transformed into a lively conversation. We were all reacting to each other, sharing our thoughts and opinions, and genuinely engaging with the topic. I was making silly faces, using hand gestures, and even throwing in a few comedic impressions. My classmates were doing the same, and before long, we were all having the time of our lives. The teacher, who had been observing from the sidelines, finally intervened, not to restore order, but to join in on the fun. "I love the energy in this room!" she exclaimed, beaming with pride. "Let's keep the conversation going!" And so we did, delving deeper into the topic, sharing our perspectives, and learning from each other. By the end of the class, we had not only covered the material but had also forged connections with each other. As we packed up our things and filed out of the classroom, I couldn't help but feel a sense of pride and accomplishment. I had taken a risk, letting my guard down and being myself, and it had paid off in the best possible way. From that day on, I knew that I could turn even the most awkward of situations into a fun and engaging experience, just by being willing to be myself and letting my reactions shine through.

As I navigate my journey through life, I have come to realize that one of the most profound ways to positively impact the world is by spreading love and kindness wherever I go. It's a simple yet powerful philosophy that I believe has the potential to create a ripple effect of compassion and empathy that can resonate across the globe. My plan is to make a conscious effort to ensure that everyone I interact with feels loved, valued, and appreciated, regardless of their background, circumstances, or beliefs. I want to be a beacon of hope and kindness in a world that often seems overwhelming and divided. By choosing to approach every interaction with empathy and understanding, I hope to create a safe and supportive environment where people feel encouraged to be their authentic selves. Whether it's through a warm smile, a listening ear, or a helping hand, I aim to show others that they matter, that they are seen, and that they are loved. I also recognize that everyone has a unique story and struggle, and that we never truly know what someone else is going through. This realization has taught me to approach every interaction with kindness, compassion, and patience. By doing so, I hope to not only improve the lives of those around me but also to create a more harmonious and supportive community. As Mahatma Gandhi so eloquently stated, "Be the change you wish to see in the world." I believe that by embodying this mantra and making a conscious effort to spread love and kindness, I can play a small part in creating a more loving, compassionate, and harmonious world. My goal is not to change the world overnight, but to make a positive impact, one interaction at a time. I believe that if we all strive to live with kindness, empathy, and compassion, we can collectively create a world that is more just, equitable, and loving. By choosing to spread love and kindness, I hope to inspire others to do the same, creating a ripple effect of compassion that can resonate across the globe. Ultimately, I believe that love and kindness have the power to transform lives, communities, and the world at large, and I am committed to being a part of this transformation. As I strive to make a positive impact, I am reminded that kindness is a muscle that must be exercised regularly. By incorporating small acts of kindness into my daily life, such as holding the door for someone or sending a kind message to a friend, I am strengthening my ability to spread love and compassion. I also recognize that kindness is not limited to grand gestures, but can be found in the simplest of actions. By embracing this mindset, I believe that we can create a world where kindness is the norm, and love is the guiding force behind our interactions.

My name is Makenzie Underwood and id like to go to college and major in Pre-Nursing. Im passionate about nursing for numerous of reasons. One reason is I always feel the need to help others. Recent times I've gone to get a check up or something the nurses there show little to no care. They make it known they're only doing this because it's their job. Id like to purse nursing to make a difference when it comes to patient service along with helping them get better.
My passion for nursing also stems from a deep-seated desire to make a meaningful difference in the lives of others. Growing up, I had the privilege of watching my grandfather, Ronald Martin, courageously battle heart disease. His experiences had a profound impact on me, and I was struck by the compassion, empathy, and kindness displayed by his healthcare team. The nurses, in particular, left an indelible mark on my heart. Their selfless dedication, expertise, and gentle care inspired me to pursue a career in nursing.
As I reflect on my grandfather's journey, I am reminded of the countless times he felt frustrated, scared, and overwhelmed by his condition. However, it was the nurses who took the time to listen, educate, and reassure him that made all the difference. They empowered him to take control of his health, and their presence brought comfort and solace to our entire family. These experiences not only deepened my appreciation for the nursing profession but also instilled in me a sense of purpose and responsibility.
Through a nursing career, I hope to emulate the same kindness, compassion, and expertise that my grandfather's nurses demonstrated. I aspire to deliver patient-centered care that addresses the physical, emotional, and spiritual needs of individuals and families. I am eager to work in a dynamic, fast-paced environment where no two days are ever the same. I am excited to collaborate with interdisciplinary teams, stay abreast of the latest research and technological advancements, and contribute to shaping the future of healthcare.
Ultimately, my goal is to make a lasting, positive impact on the lives of my patients and their loved ones. I envision myself working in a variety of settings, from hospitals and clinics to community health organizations and advocacy groups. Wherever my nursing journey takes me, I am committed to upholding the values of empathy, kindness, and social responsibility that my grandfather's nurses embodied. I am confident that my passion, combined with the knowledge and skills I will acquire through my nursing education, will enable me to make a meaningful difference in the lives of others.
John Young 'Pursue Your Passion' Scholarship
Recently I've been going through different fields trying to decide which one to pursue. Between Criminal Justice, Pre-law, and Pre-nursing, I've decided pre-nursing. As I embark on my nursing career, I am driven by a profound passion to make a meaningful difference in the lives of others. My vision is to create a positive impact by delivering exceptional patient care, fostering a culture of compassion and empathy, and advocating for the well-being of vulnerable populations. I believe that nursing is not just a profession, but a calling that requires dedication, resilience, and a genuine commitment to serving others.
To achieve my professional passion, I plan to start by focusing on building strong relationships with my patients, colleagues, and community partners. I will strive to create a safe, supportive, and inclusive environment that promotes open communication, mutual respect, and trust. By actively listening to patients' concerns, validating their emotions, and addressing their unique needs, I aim to empower them to take an active role in their healthcare journey.
Furthermore, I am committed to staying abreast of the latest evidence-based practices, research, and technological advancements in the field of nursing. I will pursue ongoing education and professional development opportunities to enhance my clinical skills, critical thinking, and decision-making abilities. By doing so, I will be able to provide high-quality, patient-centered care that is tailored to the complex and evolving needs of diverse patient populations.
In addition to delivering exceptional clinical care, I am also passionate about advocating for health equity, social justice, and policy changes that promote the well-being of marginalized communities. I believe that nurses have a critical role to play in addressing the social determinants of health, reducing health disparities, and promoting health literacy. Through community outreach, education, and partnership-building, I aim to amplify the voices of vulnerable populations and work towards creating a more just and equitable healthcare system.
Ultimately, my goal is to create a lasting positive impact in the nursing profession by inspiring a new generation of nurses to embrace the values of compassion, empathy, and social responsibility. I believe that by working together, we can co-create a healthcare system that is truly patient-centered, equitable, and just. As I embark on this journey, I am filled with excitement, hope, and a deep commitment to making a meaningful difference in the lives of others. Which is why this scholarship would help me out with prospering in the future.

My name is Makenzie Underwood. Ever since I was younger I've always wanted to make sure people are cared for or involved, or I always tried to make sure they don't feel left out or out of place while they're around me. So I always figured helping people in general is something id want to do in life.
Another thing that helped me realized this was my Grandfather being diagnosed with heart failure. My grandfather's courageous battle with heart failure had a profound impact on my life, shaping my passion for helping others and inspiring me to pursue a career supporting individuals with special needs. Growing up, I was extremely close to my grandfather, and witnessing his struggles with heart failure was both heartbreaking and eye-opening. As I watched him navigate the challenges of his condition, I was struck by the resilience and determination he displayed, even in the face of adversity. However, I also saw firsthand the difficulties he faced in accessing adequate care and support, which often left him feeling frustrated and isolated. These experiences sparked a deep-seated desire within me to help others who are facing similar challenges. As I learned more about the experiences of individuals with special needs, I became increasingly aware of the numerous barriers and inequalities that they often encounter. I realized that many people with special needs face significant challenges in accessing basic necessities like healthcare, education, and social support, which can have a profound impact on their overall well-being and quality of life. My grandfather's experiences had a profound impact on my life, and I am now driven to make a positive difference in the lives of others. I am committed to advocating for the rights and needs of individuals with special needs, and I am excited to pursue a career that will enable me to support and empower these incredible individuals. Which is why I applied to different colleges under majors that could allow me to help those who live with certain disabilities. During the summer I also got to help my great grandmother get ready and watch over her for a day while my family planned her birthday party, she currently struggles with certain things that doesn't allow her to move as good as she use to. Assisting my great grandma, who is largely immobile, with daily tasks like getting dressed has been an invaluable learning experience. I've developed essential skills, such as patience, empathy, and gentle communication. I've also learned the importance of maintaining dignity and respecting individual autonomy. These experiences have not only deepened my understanding of the challenges faced by elderly patients but also instilled in me a passion for delivering compassionate, person-centered care – essential qualities for a future nursing career.
John Young 'Pursue Your Passion' Scholarship
Recently in life I've noticed there's a lot of things that need medical attention. There's also a lot of things that need the correct care. There's situations where elders are put in nursing homes, but the nurses can be impatient. There's times where a patient is really sick and needs someone to care but you can tell the nurse is just doing the job to get paid. Both of these scenarios are tributes to the reason I would like to pursue nursing. Witnessing careless nurses encouraged me from a younger age to want to become a nurse so I can help comfort those in need. I desire to really be a nurse for children, because they're younger and it could be scarier. But at the same time people going through stuff is scary at any age especially if someone is alone. My goal for the career would be to Major in nursing, and make turn nursing into a great successful career hopefully being a nurse at a hospital. I feel nursing at a hospital would help fulfill my passion of nursing to help care for and comfort people, because most of the time when people are in hospitals or doctors offices in general the nurses sometimes just do their job with no care. For example, I recently had a doctors appointment to go get a shot and the nurse just told be to go sit down and then just walked in gave me the shot then walked out, no talking through it or emotion showed at all. I feel as a nurse I could at least make the patient feel more comfortable, and as relaxed as possible. In conclusion I desire to create a impact by hopefully getting into the nursing field and with that making sure everyone who I serve is as comfortable, relaxed, and cared for as possible.

My name is Makenzie Underwood, and a field i’m very interested in working in is nursing. Growing up i’ve been around a lot of elders or people with a type of sickness and i’ve always wanted to help them. Due to this I feel like nursing is one of my callings.
One thing that inspired me to go into Nursing is my Great Grandmother. She is a 89 year old who is no longer able to do everything herself. Over the years i’ve seen how different people have taken care of her trying to keep her out of the nursing home and I feel it was really all of the caretakers or at home nurses who inspired me to want to help elders like my Great grandma. I believe if I made it into this field I could help peoples experience feel more loving even if it is in a nursing home. My Grandfather always says they don’t normally show enough care in Nursing homes so I feel I could do my part in showing elders they’re cared for.
Another reason I would love to pursue nursing is because of different Cancer patients i’ve seen online. In the past few years i’ve seen a number of different adults and kids who have cancer and i’ve followed their stories. With these patients i’ve seen small footage of their nurses and how their nurses care for them and put smiles on their faces. If I were to get into this career that would be my main focus, putting smiles on peoples faces while taking care of them. My main goal would be to care for them while making their experience more comfortable.
The last reason I would like to pursue Nursing is because of my Grandfather and Uncle. Recently my grandfather was diagnosed with heart failure and was always in and out of the hospital. While he was there the doctor would always try to say he was fine at first but the nurse would try to work harder with him and the doctor ended up finding out his heart was failing. After finding out they would always try to get him to take different medications or do different procedures and he would never want to. His son, my uncle recently passed away from a brain failure. I was told he always had headaches and different stuff but never wanted to get checked out or take medicine so one day he had a seizure and passed away, and I don't want that to be my grandfather or anyone else. As a nurse I would try my best to encourage different patients to do what the doctor is preferring and or take the medications they’re prescribing because someone out there cares and wants you to get better.
In conclusion I would like to pursue nursing to help patients feel more at home. To try my best to get them to want to do treatments, or to want to better themselves. And to help take care of them overall.

Hello, My name is Makenzie Underwood and one of the careers i’ve recently wanted pursue is Nursing. Most of the time people say they want to have a career in nursing when they don’t know what else to do in life or because everyone else is doing nursing. At first I thought thats why I decided nursing but it’s much deeper than that now that I think about it and here’s why.
Growing up i’ve had a lot of elders in my family and they’re all very supportive and always go out of their way for people. One person who really influenced me to want to pursue nursing is my Great Grandmother. My Grandpa always talks about how I should watch after elders and shouldn’t leave them in a nursing home because sometimes they don’t get people correct care. Recently my Great Grandmother turned 88 and I had to help her get ready for her birthday and it made me think what if I did this at a real nursing home when i'm older as a career, and gave the elders correct care. I’ve always admired elders and for some reason always feel bad when I see them alone. I feel taking care of them could be one of my purposes in life.
Another influence i’ve had was my Grandfather. Recently About a year ago he was diagnosed with Heart failure. While he was in and out of the hospital he never wanted to take his medicine or get treatments, he always thought they were trying to poison him or something. While he was home I would always try to make him take his medicine and make it more comfortable and a bit more normal for him. Thinking back on it he’s probably not the only person who doesn’t like medicine or treatments. I feel if I made it into the nursing profession I could help people like my Grandfather want to take their medicine and want to get treatments so they could be better by just showing someone cares and not just because its their job.
The last influence ive had is all of the cancer patients, especially children ive seen online. Of course the most you can do for some cancers is chemotherapy and pray but I just want to be able to make the experience for the patients comfortable and less scary as possible. Seeing cancer patients on my screen always makes me want to help them or comfort them. I just feel like as their nurse I could show them proper care, make them feel comfortable, and try my best to convince them to do treatments but not force them to for some people don’t believe in it.
In conclusion I feel as if nursing is something i’m just meant to do in life. I feel I could contribute by actually caring for the patients and making their visit feel at home as much as possible. No matter what kind of nursing career it is I just feel like i’m meant to help people and try to keep their health good. Most importantly I feel as I help care for them I could make it a bit more comfortable for them, and not make it seem as if its just my job.

Most of the time people say they want to have a career in nursing when they don’t know what else to do in life or because everyone else is doing nursing. At first I thought thats why I decided nursing but it’s much deeper than that now that I think about it and here’s why.
