Hello all! My name is Makaylah Hopkins and I am currently a student at George Mason University. I am studying Art and Visual Technologies with a concentration in drawing. I am the oldest of 9, however I only live with 3 of my younger siblings. I was born and raised in Virginia by my lovely mom who did it all on her own. I have always been a person who appreciates the small things in life, and I am grateful for the things already present in my own life. I cherish the connections I have with my friends and family and I hold the memories we have made close to my heart. I began drawing at a young age, always doodling and sketching in middle school. Once I reached high school, I began to build on my drawing skills more and became vice president of my school's art club. I have painted murals for my community and even had the opportunity to showcase a piece of mine in a local museum (MOCA). One of my major life goals has always been to be a successful independent artist and entrepreneur. I believe that I have enough hope and motivation within myself to try my hardest to accomplish my goals. I have dedicated my life not just to my art itself, but to the things my art can do for others. I want to create safe spaces where all emotions can be felt and conversations can be had. My passion is to be able to create a moment where the people who see my art can make connections to my work, and even to me as the creator. I would love to make my mother proud, and the rest of my family too. Most importantly, I want to prove to myself that I can do what some would say is impossible.
