Bio

I am a senior in high school with a 4.2 weight GPA. I have a dream of becoming a dermatologist and helping others feel confident in their skin. I am excited to pursue a career in the medical field as I follow in my moms footsteps. I am most interested in skincare, health, and making an impact in the community. I am currently focused on preparing for college and gaining experience in the medical field as I work towards my goal of becoming a board-certified dermatologist.

      Kalia D. Davis Memorial Scholarship
June 7th, my birthday will always feel a little more meaningful since learning that Kalia D. Davis passed on June 8th. Though I never knew her personally, reading about her legacy, her love for track, and her spirit in sports made me feel a strange but powerful connection. Like her, I found meaning in running and sports, and like her, I've faced unexpected challenges that tested my strength and love for that sport. I've also maintained a weighted GPA of 4.2 throughout high school, balancing athletics, academics, and volunteer work with discipline. I played soccer during my freshman and sophomore years of high school, starting as a shy, quiet kid who was terrified of team sports. Little me was scared of the idea of messing up in front of such a big crowd. But something about soccer clicked for me. Soccer gave me confidence, leadership, and a voice. I eventually became JV captain and played on the varsity team for both years that I played. This role pushed me hard, especially when it came to running. Sprint drills, long distance training, and chasing the ball became the part that I loved the most. It wasn't about the game, but it was about competing with myself to go faster, farther, stronger. That's where I found my joy. Then, I was diagnosed with scoliosis, sciatica, and a prolapsed disc in my back. The pain was so intense that some days I couldn't walk. Due to this, I had to stop playing the game I loved so deeply. Losing the ability to run was heart shattering. It felt like I lost a part of me. But I didn't let that stop me from becoming invisible in the community. I found a sense of leadership in volunteering through school programs, local events, and youth activities. I helped in elementary school events, volunteered at the public library, helped at our local sports complex, and raised funds for the Assistance League. Though my family financial struggles, I help raise funds for others in need. My mom works a part time job while my dad is gone most of the time. I barely get to see my dad because of the outrageous hours he works to support our family. My siblings and I get to see our dad two out of the seven days each week. He works from ten in the morning until one in the morning, so it's difficult to pass by each other as he sleeps all he can. I have three younger siblings that I babysit and continue household duties while my parents work, preventing me from having a job. Financial aid would help out our family tremendously, as my dad has three other kids to support. This scholarship means more than just financial help. It represents someone who lived with their heart, ran with purpose, and left a legacy I want to honor. I may not be able to run anymore, but I will always carry that same competitiveness inside me, just like Kalia did. Thank you for considering my application. My deepest condolences to Kalia's family and loved ones.
