Students Impacted by Incarceration Scholarship
Being a child of a repeated incarcerated felon hasn’t always been easy. From growing up with my dad being my best friend and then watching him getting arrested as I’m going to school has been rough. And seeing him in recent years over the phone or behind the glass hasn’t been the way that I really sought my father to be. Incarceration had impacted my life by breaking the personal boundary and barrier within myself and realizing that everyone is always what they seem to be. Without having my dad around for most years of my life, has been an experience in it’s from seeing the hurt and pain it’s cause on my family and having to mature early on in life to be able to help myself financially and be able to still help my mother as much as possible. Having an incarcerated parent has taught me that no matter how easy one’s life my seem there is always going to be a struggle or battle that one has to overcome in order to further their life. While some might overcome the battle of having a child or starting a new job, my battle is having a parent in and out the system my whole life. Having an incarcerated parent has had an impact on my academic and career ambitions by making me realize no matter how much you go through, you have to be able to see things out to the end. With my father being in and out of jail he’s always told me when it’s you and those four walls you have nothing but time to think back on life and how you can better your life. I took his words in and consistently think how I can better my life. Within wishing for a better future I always see things out through the end while always remembering that it’s my past that shapes my future.
Bold Dream Big Scholarship
My dream life concludes of going to one of my top pick colleges to with an associates’ degree in accounting with a minor of psychology. After college I would either like to be a financial analyst or emergency dispatcher. I would like to live in Canada and pursue my dreams from there.
Bold Generosity Matters Scholarship
While the book definition of generosity is the quality of being kind and generous, I believe generosity is being able to be liberal and fit one’s standard of kind. Generosity is often viewed in a religious affiliation a virtue.
Ethel Hayes Destigmatization of Mental Health Scholarship
I personally have witnessed how mental health can affect one’s relationships with family, friends, and their work life. With seeing how it affects others, it has made me realize how I should approach opportunities and offers with a positive attitude and higher hopes.
Mental health has shaped my goals by me understanding I should always try harder and never giving up no matter how hard or complicated it gets, nor how frustrating it may become. It has shaped my relationships by seeing how it affects loved ones and the toll it takes on them. I’ve always wanted to make sure my family had always been proud of me and everything I decide to do so I always give my one hundred and ten percent in everything I do. My experience with mental has helped my understanding of the world by knowing everyone goes through something different at certain times in their life and being able to see it through to the end is what God has set that purpose for.
Mental health affects the way we think, feel, and act as we learn to cope with it. Mental health is important in every stage of life from childhood to adolescence through adulthood and aging. Everyone should always know there is always someone who can understand and possibly relate to you and your circumstances.
