Mema and Papa Scholarship
Helpfulness has been a defining and very crucial part of my journey as a female wrestler, both on and off the mat. Wrestling is often viewed as an individual sport, but my experience has taught me that success is built through teamwork, mentorship, and support. As one of the few females in a traditionally male dominated sport, I have learned the importance of helping others feel included, supported, and capable especially younger or newer athletes.
I consistently demonstrate helpfulness by encouraging teammates during practices, assisting newer wrestlers with technique, and offering support during difficult training periods. I dedicate my time to the youth girl wrestlers to continue to encourage them and help them succeed. When someone struggles with conditioning, weight management, or confidence, I make an effort to uplift them rather than compete against them emotionally. I understand how intimidating the sport can be, particularly for female athletes, and I strive to be someone others can look to for reassurance and motivation. I continue to be there for those who struggle and guide them to success. Beyond the wrestling room, I balance academics, training, and responsibilities with discipline, often helping peers stay accountable and organized. These actions reflect my belief that being helpful means contributing to the strength and unity of the team.
Persistence and perseverance have been central to my success as a wrestler. Wrestling demands both physical and mental toughness, and progress is rarely linear. I have faced losses, plateaus, and moments of self-doubt that tested my resolve. There have been many times that quitting has crossed my mind. As a female wrestler, I have also encountered skepticism and higher expectations, which only strengthened my determination to prove myself through hard work and consistency.
One example of perseverance resulting in success was committing to long-term improvement despite early setbacks. There were matches where results did not reflect the effort I put in, but instead of becoming discouraged, I focused on refining technique, improving conditioning, and strengthening my mindset. I showed up early, stayed late, and trusted the process even when results were slow. Over time, that persistence translated into improved performance, confidence, and leadership.
Through wrestling, I have learned that perseverance is not just about winning. It is about growth, discipline, and resilience. Combined with my commitment to helping others, these qualities define who I am as an athlete and student. This scholarship would support not only my academic goals, but my continued pursuit of excellence and leadership as a female wrestler who strives to make a positive impact.
Taylor Swift Fan Scholarship
Choosing the most moving Taylor Swift performance is like picking a favorite star in the night sky—each one shines uniquely. However, her performance of "Ronan" at the 2012 Stand Up to Cancer telethon stands out for its raw emotion, vulnerability, and the story it tells. This performance was more than just a song; it was a tribute to a young life lost too soon and a powerful moment of shared grief and hope.
"Ronan" is a song Swift wrote after reading a blog by Maya Thompson about her son, Ronan, who passed away from cancer at the age of three. The lyrics are taken directly from Thompson's blog posts, capturing the innocence, joy, and devastating reality of Ronan's battle with the disease. Swift's decision to perform this deeply personal song on national television was a bold move, showcasing her willingness to use her platform to raise awareness and support for those affected by cancer.
The 2012 Stand Up to Cancer performance was simple yet profound. Swift stood alone on stage with just her guitar, bathed in soft light. Her voice, usually confident and strong, was tinged with a delicate fragility. As she sang, the lyrics painted a vivid picture of Ronan—his "too-cool-for-boys" smirk, his love for superheroes, and the unbearable pain of his loss. The rawness of the lyrics, combined with Swift's heartfelt delivery, created an atmosphere of palpable emotion.
What made this performance so moving was not just the story behind the song, but also Swift's ability to connect with the audience on a deeply human level. There were no elaborate costumes, no flashy choreography—just a singer and her guitar, sharing a story of love, loss, and resilience. In that moment, Swift transcended her role as a pop star and became a vessel for Thompson's grief, giving voice to the countless families who have experienced similar tragedies.
The impact of the performance was immediate and widespread. Viewers were moved to tears, and donations to cancer research poured in. More importantly, the performance sparked a national conversation about childhood cancer and the need for greater awareness and funding. "Ronan" became an anthem for families battling the disease, a reminder that they are not alone and that their stories deserve to be heard.
In conclusion, Taylor Swift's performance of "Ronan" at the 2012 Stand Up to Cancer telethon was the most moving because of its raw emotion, powerful storytelling, and the sense of connection it created. It was a moment of shared grief and hope, a reminder of the importance of empathy, and a testament to the power of music to heal and inspire. While Swift has delivered many memorable performances throughout her career, "Ronan" stands out as a poignant and unforgettable tribute to a young life lost too soon.

Stacey Vore Wrestling Scholarship
Basketball, once my sanctuary, morphed into a chore by my sophomore year. The joy evaporated, replaced by the crushing pressure to meet unattainable expectations. What was once unimaginable became unbearable, leading me to abandon the sport entirely.
Amidst this emotional turmoil, I stumbled into the wrestling room, a world I had never considered. Despite the challenges of joining an all-boys team in a male-dominated sport, I felt a spark ignite within me—a feeling I hadn't experienced since my early days with basketball. The rawness, individuality, and daily challenges of wrestling resonated deeply, offering a perfect fit for my life.
Stepping onto the mat became my escape, silencing the outside world and freeing my mind. It was a battle of self against self, a pursuit of victory driven by personal ambition rather than the expectations of teammates. Wrestling forced me to confront my limits, to stare them down and surpass them. Failures were frequent, both in private practice and before crowds, but each one fueled my growth and resilience.
Being a female wrestler was far from easy. Doubts and skepticism surrounded me, but they only strengthened my resolve. Every time I stepped onto the mat, I felt a surge of power, a sense of appreciation and visibility. For the first time, I was competing for myself, not to satisfy others. Wrestling wasn't just a new sport; it restored my sense of worth, reminding me of the passion that drove me to fight for what I loved.
Wrestling rekindled the spirit of my former basketball self, reigniting the spark that had been extinguished. It proved that passion and love need not end in heartbreak. Thanks to wrestling, I am no longer simply an athlete. I am defined by the courage to step away from my first love, the perseverance to overcome obstacles, and the strength to navigate uncharted waters. I took a risk, embracing a challenge that could have easily overwhelmed me.
The persistence, determination, and discipline I've cultivated through wrestling have shaped me into the person I am today. Wrestling has given me the ability to push past limits that I never thought I could. Wrestling has also brought back the drive to perform at a high level under pressure. It has brought back my spark. I would have never been able to gain all of this without stepping into the wrestling room.
I found that the struggles of being a female wrestler have shaped me into the person I am today. I had to overcome doubts and skepticism to become the athlete I knew I could be. Being a female wrestler has shown me how to be an individual in a world where I felt like I wasn't. Wrestling is the one thing that made me feel like I was meant to be on this earth. It has brought me to a whole new level of love and passion. I found that I was willing to fight for wrestling. I was willing to do whatever it takes to be great at it. I have never had that feeling before.
I took the risk to put my foot in a door that could have closed in my face. I could've walked out. Said, ¨This is too hard¨, and left. But I didn't. I took on a challenge to find myself again. That is who I am. That's the athlete I became.
