Bio

As a single mother with seven years of experience as a Certified Nursing Assistant (CNA), I have balanced raising my children with providing compassionate care to patients. What began as an unexpected journey into healthcare quickly grew into a deep passion. My experience as a traveling CNA in Washington State, particularly in the Emergency Department and ICU, has solidified my commitment to pursuing a nursing career. Recently, I was accepted into a rigorous two-year nursing program starting in Fall 2024. While I’m eager to advance my education and become a Registered Nurse, the program’s demands mean I will be unable to work, creating financial challenges for my family. Despite cutting back on expenses, the high cost of living, especially rent, remains a significant burden. Any scholarship would alleviate the financial strain, allowing me to dedicate myself fully to my studies and achieve my dream of becoming a Registered Nurse. More than just financial support, this opportunity represents a crucial step toward securing a stable and brighter future for my family and giving back to my community.

    Pushing Our Scholars Forward
Choosing to pursue a degree in nursing was a decision shaped by both personal challenges and a deep commitment to serving others. My journey in healthcare began seven years ago when I took a free Certified Nursing Assistant (CNA) class. What started as a necessity quickly became a passion. Now, as I work toward becoming a Registered Nurse (RN), I am driven by the desire to make a meaningful impact on society, grounded in my experiences and aspirations. My decision to enroll in a nursing program stems from my desire to advance my career, provide better care for patients, and fulfill a personal mission. After seven years as a CNA, I realized that to serve more effectively, I needed to expand my skills. Becoming an RN will allow me to take on greater responsibilities and offer comprehensive care. Personal experiences also influenced my decision. Losing my mother to murder and drugs at 14, experiencing homelessness, and becoming a teen mother instilled in me resilience and a commitment to help others. The support I received during these times inspired me to pursue a career where I could provide similar care and comfort to those facing adversity. The education I am receiving will equip me with the skills to make a tangible difference in the lives of others. As an RN, I will provide high-quality, empathetic care to patients, many of whom are navigating their own struggles. My goal is to be a source of support and healing, using my experiences to offer compassion and understanding. I also plan to advocate for underserved communities, particularly those affected by homelessness and addiction—issues I am familiar with. By combining personal insights with professional training, I hope to improve healthcare accessibility and outcomes for these populations. Additionally, I am committed to mentoring others in healthcare, especially those who, like me, have faced significant challenges. Balancing work as a CNA with my studies has been one of the most significant challenges I’ve faced. The demands of my job, coupled with the intensity of nursing school, require careful time management and relentless dedication. As a single mother, these challenges are further amplified as I strive to meet the needs of my family while pursuing my education. However, working while studying has also enhanced my learning. The real-world application of classroom concepts deepens my understanding and ability to care for patients. Each shift allows me to bring new knowledge into practice, making my education more relevant. Yet, the pressures of balancing these responsibilities are immense. The exhaustion is real, and the weight of commitments can be overwhelming. But these challenges have strengthened my resolve, reminding me why this journey is important and how it will impact the lives I hope to touch as an RN. Enrolling in the nursing program is not just a career step, but a continuation of my commitment to helping others. My past has shaped me into someone driven by empathy, resilience, and a deep desire to serve. With the knowledge and skills I am gaining, I am confident that I can provide compassionate care, advocate for those in need, and mentor others facing challenges. Though the journey is demanding, I am determined to succeed, for myself, my family, and the countless individuals whose lives I hope to impact as a Registered Nurse.
    Redefining Victory Scholarship
Success, to me, is a multifaceted concept that encompasses both personal and professional fulfillment. On a personal level, success means breaking free from the cycle of hardship and adversity that defined my early years and creating a stable, nurturing environment for my children. Professionally, success involves achieving my dream of becoming a Registered Nurse (RN) and using my skills and compassion to make a meaningful impact on the lives of my patients, particularly in pediatric care. Ultimately, success is about resilience, overcoming challenges, and using my experiences to help others. My journey toward success has been shaped by the challenges I’ve faced and the determination to overcome them. I grew up in a low-income environment surrounded by drug use, and when I was just 14, my mother was murdered—a traumatic event that left me without a stable family support system. Despite these overwhelming circumstances, I was determined not to let my past define my future. I experienced homelessness as a teenager, but I refused to give up on myself or my dreams. This drive to create a better life led me to become a mother at a young age, and although the path was difficult, it also solidified my resolve to break the cycle of violence and instability that I had grown up in. At 21, after working in various entry-level jobs, I made a pivotal decision to obtain my Certified Nursing Assistant (CNA) certification. This was a turning point in my life, as it provided me with an opportunity to pursue a career in healthcare—a field that I quickly realized was my true passion. Over the past seven years, I have worked as a CNA in diverse settings, including long-term care facilities, hospitals, and as a traveling CNA in Washington State. These experiences have not only honed my clinical skills but have also reinforced my commitment to nursing as a lifelong career. One of the most profound experiences that has shaped my understanding of success was when my son was hospitalized at Seattle Children’s Hospital during the pandemic with a suspected case of Kawasaki disease. We were airlifted from Yakima, WA, to Seattle, and during this time, I had to draw on every ounce of strength and resilience to advocate for my son’s care. The pediatric nurses who looked after him provided not only expert medical care but also the emotional support I desperately needed during that difficult time. This experience was a powerful reminder of the difference that compassionate care can make, and it solidified my desire to specialize in pediatric nursing. In addition to my professional work, I have also been deeply committed to volunteering. While working at the hospital, I would spend my breaks, after-work hours, and even days off holding and comforting newborns who were going through drug withdrawal. This volunteer work was incredibly fulfilling and reinforced my belief in the power of compassion and human connection. It also reminded me of the environment I grew up in and strengthened my resolve to help the most vulnerable patients, especially those impacted by similar circumstances. In 2021, I achieved another significant milestone by obtaining my GED. This accomplishment allowed me to pursue higher education, leading to the completion of two years of nursing prerequisites and my recent acceptance into a rigorous nursing program that begins in Fall 2024. This achievement represents not just a step toward my career goals but also a victory over the challenges I’ve faced—proof that I am capable of breaking the cycle of adversity and building a brighter future for my family. However, the journey ahead is still challenging, particularly from a financial standpoint. As a single mother, balancing work, school, and family responsibilities is already demanding, and the financial burden of nursing school is significant. This opportunity will help me achieve success by providing the financial support necessary to complete my nursing education and secure a stable future for my children. It will allow me to focus on my studies without the added stress of financial strain, ensuring that I can continue my journey with confidence. Success for me is not just about personal achievement but about using my experiences to make a positive impact on the world. By becoming a nurse, I hope to provide compassionate, patient-centered care, especially to those who are most vulnerable. This opportunity represents more than just financial support—it’s a crucial step toward achieving my vision of success, breaking the cycle of adversity, and making a meaningful difference in the lives of others.

The nursing industry interests me as a career choice because it allows me to combine my passion for helping others with my desire to make a meaningful impact on individuals and communities. Nursing offers a unique blend of scientific knowledge and compassionate care, and it’s a profession where every day brings opportunities to support people during their most vulnerable moments. My commitment to caring for others, as well as my extensive experience as a Certified Nursing Assistant (CNA), has driven me to pursue a career in nursing. My goals for a successful career in nursing are centered on becoming a highly skilled and compassionate nurse. I aim to provide excellent patient care across various healthcare settings, with a particular interest in specializing in pediatric nursing. My long-term aspiration is to continue my education, potentially advancing to a nurse educator role, where I can pass on my knowledge and passion for nursing to future generations. One of my most significant personal accomplishments was obtaining my GED in 2021, despite facing numerous challenges. This achievement allowed me to pursue higher education, leading to the completion of two years of prerequisites and my acceptance into a rigorous nursing program that begins in Fall 2024. Additionally, my seven years of experience as a CNA have been instrumental in shaping my career path. I have worked in diverse settings, including long-term care, hospitals, and as a traveling CNA in Washington State, where I gained experience in specialties such as the Emergency Department and ICU. These roles have not only honed my clinical skills but also deepened my understanding of patient-centered care. Beyond my professional experience, I have also been involved in volunteering, which has further fueled my passion for nursing. While working at the hospital, I would volunteer during my downtime to hold and comfort babies going through drug withdrawal. I would spend time with these vulnerable infants during breaks, after work, and on my days off. This volunteer work was deeply fulfilling and reinforced my belief in the power of human connection and compassionate care. The experience of comforting these newborns, who were often experiencing significant distress, highlighted the importance of empathy and presence in nursing. It also underscored the impact that a caring touch can have on a patient’s well-being, even in their earliest days of life. A pivotal moment that solidified my desire to pursue pediatric nursing occurred when my son was hospitalized at Seattle Children’s Hospital during the pandemic with a suspected case of Kawasaki disease. We were airlifted from Yakima, WA, to Seattle, and throughout this harrowing experience, I played the dual role of mother and advocate. The pediatric nurses who cared for my son not only provided expert medical care but also offered emotional support and reassurance during an incredibly stressful time. This experience made me realize the profound difference that compassionate nursing can make in the lives of patients and their families. My past medical experience as a CNA, combined with my personal experiences and volunteer work, has given me a unique perspective on the importance of empathy, communication, and resilience in nursing. These experiences have not only prepared me for the challenges of nursing school but have also instilled in me a deep commitment to this career path. I am excited to continue my journey in nursing, with the ultimate goal of making a positive impact on the lives of my patients and contributing to the healthcare field as a dedicated and compassionate nurse.

One of the most challenging experiences in my life occurred during the pandemic when my young son became severely ill. What began as a simple fever quickly escalated, and our local hospital in Yakima, WA, suspected Kawasaki disease—a rare condition that can cause serious heart complications. Given the urgency, we were airlifted to Seattle Children’s Hospital. The flight to Seattle was one of the most terrifying moments of my life. Watching my son, so small and vulnerable, connected to medical equipment, while knowing that his life was at risk, tested every ounce of my strength. Upon arriving at Seattle Children’s, I was thrust into a world of complex medical information, where I had to quickly make critical decisions for my son’s care. Despite my own fears, I knew I had to stay calm and focused. My son needed me to be his advocate, his comfort, and his strength. During those sleepless nights in the hospital, I discovered a resilience within myself that I didn’t know existed. I asked countless questions, absorbed information, and worked closely with the medical team to ensure my son received the best care possible. Throughout this ordeal, I was deeply moved by the pediatric nurses who cared for my son. Their ability to combine technical expertise with genuine compassion left a lasting impression on me. I saw firsthand how their calm, empathetic presence provided comfort during one of the most frightening times in my life. This experience solidified my desire to become a pediatric nurse. The strength and determination I showed during my son’s hospitalization are qualities that I will bring to my nursing career. Having been in the position of a parent navigating the fear and uncertainty of a child’s illness, I understand the importance of empathy and clear communication. I know how crucial it is for families to have a compassionate advocate who can guide them through the complexities of the healthcare system. As a future pediatric nurse, I will draw upon the resilience I developed during this time. I am committed to being a source of support for both my young patients and their families, ensuring they feel heard, understood, and cared for. My goal is to provide not only excellent medical care but also the emotional support that is so essential in pediatric nursing. I want to be the nurse who reassures parents during their most vulnerable moments, who listens with empathy, and who advocates tirelessly for the well-being of every child. The strength and determination I discovered in myself during my son’s illness have become integral to who I am, and I am eager to channel these qualities into my work as a pediatric nurse. This experience has taught me the importance of resilience, compassion, and advocacy—lessons that will guide me throughout my nursing career.

This decision marked a significant turning point in my life, providing both purpose and direction. This acceptance is a culmination of my hard work and dedication, reflecting my readiness to advance in the field. The defining "aha" moment for me came during a routine shift in a long-term care facility. One day, I was assigned to care for a resident who had recently lost her husband and was struggling with profound loneliness. During my time with her, I noticed how her mood would brighten whenever we talked about her fond memories and cherished moments with her husband. One afternoon, while engaging in a conversation about her past, she looked at me with tears in her eyes and said, “You listen with your heart.” It was in that moment that I realized nursing was more than just performing routine tasks. Cariloop’s Caregiver Scholarship
My journey into caregiving began at a young age, not by choice but by necessity. At 14, my mother was murdered, leaving me without a parent and forcing me to navigate life on my own. This tragic event was the catalyst that thrust me into a world of responsibility far beyond my years. As I struggled with homelessness and the harsh realities of life, I became pregnant at 17. It was during this time that I realized the true meaning of caregiving—providing not only for my own needs but for the life of my child as well. In the years that followed, I escaped an abusive relationship and found solace in caring for others. I became a Certified Nursing Assistant (CNA) at 18, driven by a deep-seated desire to help those in need. For seven years, I worked in various settings, including long-term care, hospitals, and home health. Each experience deepened my understanding of what it means to be a caregiver. I learned to see the person behind the patient, to understand their fears, hopes, and needs, and to provide care that went beyond the physical to touch the emotional and psychological aspects of healing. This work was more than just a job—it became a vital part of my identity. The empathy and resilience I developed through my struggles with loss, trauma, and single motherhood allowed me to connect with patients on a profound level. I discovered that my capacity to care for others was rooted in the hardships I had endured, and that these experiences made me uniquely qualified to offer compassionate, holistic care. My caregiving experience has profoundly shaped my personal goals. Initially, I saw nursing as a stable career path, but it quickly evolved into a calling. I realized that I wanted to do more than just provide care—I wanted to teach and inspire others in the field of healthcare. My goal is to become a registered nurse and, eventually, a nurse educator. I want to share my knowledge and experiences with the next generation of nurses, helping them to develop the same compassion and commitment to patient care that has become central to my identity. The journey to becoming a nurse has not been easy, but it has been incredibly rewarding. In 2021, I earned my GED and was accepted into a nursing program. Each step forward has been a testament to my determination to overcome the obstacles in my path and achieve my goals. The challenges I have faced have not only strengthened my resolve but have also deepened my commitment to the nursing profession. Being a caregiver has taught me that nursing is not just about treating illness; it’s about supporting people through some of the most vulnerable moments of their lives. It’s about offering kindness, understanding, and a sense of security to those who need it most. My experiences have shown me that true caregiving comes from a place of empathy and love, qualities that I have honed through my own life’s trials. As I continue my journey towards becoming a nurse, I carry with me the lessons I’ve learned as a caregiver. These experiences have not only defined my career goals but have also become an integral part of who I am. I am proud of the caregiver I have become, and I am excited to continue growing in this role, providing care that is rooted in compassion, shaped by experience, and driven by a deep commitment to helping others.

One of the most significant challenges I’ve faced was overcoming the trauma and instability of my teenage years. At 14, I lost my mother to a violent crime, leaving me grief-stricken and without a stable home. By 17, I became pregnant and found myself trapped in an abusive relationship, which compounded my difficulties. Determined to create a better life for my child and myself, I escaped the abusive situation at 18, secured a place to live, and started working as a Certified Nursing Assistant (CNA). Despite the chaos in my life, I discovered that caring for others brought me a sense of purpose and stability. This experience ignited my passion for nursing and motivated me to pursue further education in the field. In 2021, I earned my GED and was accepted into a nursing program. The resilience and empathy I developed through my struggles have become integral to my approach to patient care. I am committed to using my experiences to become a nurse who not only provides excellent care but also understands and supports patients facing their own challenges. This scholarship will play a crucial role in helping me advance my nursing education, ultimately enabling me to give back to the community that has supported me. With seven years of experience as a CNA, I’ve seen firsthand the critical need for skilled nurses who can provide compassionate care, particularly in underserved communities. My goal is to become a registered nurse and, eventually, a nurse educator, where I can teach and inspire the next generation of nurses. Growing up in a low-income household, I faced significant barriers to accessing education and healthcare. This scholarship will alleviate the financial pressures of my nursing program, allowing me to focus on my studies and graduate ready to serve my community. I plan to use my skills to support vulnerable populations, particularly young mothers and survivors of domestic violence, by providing them with the care and resources they need to rebuild their lives. While philately and nursing may seem unrelated, the attention to detail, curiosity, and commitment that philately fosters are qualities that are equally valuable in healthcare. To encourage young people to pursue philately, I would emphasize how this hobby can enhance skills that are vital in a nursing career—such as observation, organization, and a deep appreciation for history and culture. I would organize community events where young people can explore the stories behind stamps, connecting them to historical healthcare milestones and the evolution of medical care. By showcasing how stamps have commemorated medical pioneers and breakthroughs, young people can see how philately intersects with the world of healthcare. Additionally, I would encourage young philatelists to consider how the values of patience, precision, and empathy—nurtured through stamp collecting—are also essential in nursing. By drawing these parallels, I would make philately a relevant and enriching pursuit for those interested in healthcare, potentially inspiring them to explore careers in nursing.

As I sit down to write this essay, I reflect on the journey that has brought me here—a journey marked by hardship, resilience, and an unwavering determination to create a better future for myself and my child. I am applying for this scholarship not just because I need financial assistance, but because I am deeply committed to pursuing a career in nursing—a career that will allow me to give back to my community and help others in ways that I wish someone had been able to help me. I was born into a low-income family, where my mother, struggling with drug addiction, was the only parent I knew. Her addiction led to her tragic murder when I was just 14 years old, leaving me without guidance or support. After her death, I was forced to navigate life on my own, becoming homeless and facing the harsh realities of life without a safety net. Despite these challenges, I remained determined to improve my situation. I was unable to finish high school due to the instability in my life, but I persevered and earned my GED in 2021. This achievement was significant for me, as it marked the beginning of a new chapter in my life, one where I could start to build a future for myself and my child. At 17, I became pregnant, a turning point that deepened my resolve to break the cycle of poverty and trauma. My circumstances became even more difficult as I entered a domestic violence relationship that I remained in until 2021. The experience was harrowing, but it taught me the importance of strength, resilience, and the need to advocate for myself and others who may be in similar situations. Through it all, I found solace and purpose in my work as a Certified Nursing Assistant (CNA). For seven years, I have dedicated myself to caring for others, developing a passion for nursing that goes beyond just a job—it is a calling. My work has given me the chance to touch lives, provide comfort, and offer hope to those who are vulnerable and in need. These experiences have solidified my desire to further my education and become a registered nurse, where I can make an even greater impact. I have no living family to support me, which makes this journey even more daunting. However, I am determined to succeed because I know that education is my pathway to a better life. Nursing is not just a career choice for me; it is a mission to provide care, empathy, and support to those who, like me, have faced unimaginable challenges. This scholarship would provide me with the financial support I need to focus on my studies and achieve my goal of becoming a registered nurse. My aspirations extend beyond becoming a registered nurse; I also dream of teaching and mentoring future healthcare providers. Having experienced so much in my own life, I understand the profound impact that guidance and education can have on someone’s path. I want to share the knowledge and skills I have gained, and those I will acquire, to inspire others who are passionate about making a difference in healthcare. Becoming a mother at 17 changed the course of my life in ways I couln't have imagined. At an age when my peers were focused on high school and planning for college, I was learning to navigate the responsibilities of parenthood. I had to grow up quickly, juggling the demands of caring for my children while finding a way to support us financially and continue my education. The journey has been challenging, but it has also been the most rewarding experience of my life. With no living relatives to lean on, I was faced with the daunting task of building a life for myself and my children from the ground up. Financial struggles were a reality. I knew that I needed a stable job to provide for my children, which led me to pursue a career as a Certified Nursing Assistant (CNA). In 2017, I began working as a CNA, and for the past seven years, I have dedicated myself to this role. It has been a challenging yet fulfilling career that has allowed me to support my family while making a difference in the lives of others. Working as a CNA has taught me the value of hard work, compassion, and resilience. I’ve worked in various settings, including long-term care facilities, hospitals, and home health. Each of these environments presented unique challenges, but they also offered opportunities for growth and learning. I have developed a deep commitment to patient care and have gained valuable experience that has strengthened my skills and confidence as a healthcare provider. Despite the satisfaction I find in my work, financial struggles have remained a constant hurdle. As a single mother, managing the cost of living while providing for my child’s needs and trying to save for our future has been incredibly difficult. However, these challenges have only strengthened my resolve to continue my education. I know that furthering my education is the key to improving our circumstances and securing a better future for my children. My commitment to education goes beyond just achieving financial stability. I have always been passionate about learning and self-improvement. As a CNA, I have seen firsthand the impact that knowledgeable and skilled healthcare providers can have on patients’ lives. This has fueled my desire to advance my career by becoming a registered nurse. I am determined to pursue the necessary education and training to achieve this goal. Becoming a RN will not only allow me to provide more comprehensive care to my patients but also offer me greater opportunities for professional growth and stability. Balancing work, motherhood, and education is not easy, but my experiences have taught me the importance of perseverance and determination. I have faced many obstacles, but I refuse to let them define me or limit my potential. My journey has been challenging, but it has also been a testament to the strength and resilience that I didn’t know I had. I am proud of how far I have come, and I am excited about the future and the possibilities that lie ahead. In conclusion, being a teen mother, a single parent, and a CNA for seven years has shaped me into the person I am today. The financial struggles and lack of family support have been difficult, but they have also motivated me to work harder and pursue my education with unwavering commitment. I am determined to become a RN, provide a better life for my children, and continue growing both personally and professionally. With the right support and opportunities, I believe I can achieve my goals and make an impact in the healthcare field.

Losing my mother to murder and drugs at the age of 14 was a pivotal and devastating moment in my life. The violent and tragic loss left me not only heartbroken but also lost and unmoored. With her absence, I was thrust into a world that felt increasingly harsh and unforgiving. Without a stable home, I faced the harsh reality of homelessness, struggling to navigate life’s challenges on the streets. My circumstances were further compounded when I became a teen mother, adding an immense weight of responsibility to my already fragile situation. Amidst this overwhelming darkness, I found a beacon of light in meditation, which became a crucial tool for my survival and well-being. Initially, meditation offered a brief respite from the chaos and pain surrounding me. It was a moment of calm in an otherwise turbulent life. However, as time went on, meditation evolved into something much more significant—it became a lifeline that helped me cope with the profound trauma of losing my mother. Through meditation, I discovered a way to process and manage my grief. The practice allowed me to sit with my emotions, confront my pain, and find a semblance of peace. This introspective process was not only healing but also empowering, helping me rebuild my sense of self amidst the turmoil. Meditation provided me with the resilience needed to face the daily struggles of homelessness. It taught me to manage my emotions and maintain a sense of inner calm, even when the external circumstances were bleak. By focusing inward, I was able to cultivate mental and emotional strength, transforming my despair into a driving force for survival. This practice became a grounding force that enabled me to persevere through adversity, providing clarity and purpose in moments of uncertainty. As a teen mother, the demands of caring for my child while grappling with my own challenges were immense. Meditation offered me a way to center myself and find balance amidst the chaos. It taught me patience and compassion, not only towards myself but also towards my child. These qualities were essential in navigating the responsibilities of motherhood while continuing to care for my own well-being. Through meditation, I learned that while I could not control the events that had shaped my life, I could control my responses and attitude towards them. This realization was a powerful tool for transformation. Meditation helped me turn my struggles into opportunities for growth, allowing me to approach life with a renewed sense of purpose and hope. In summary, meditation was more than just a coping mechanism; it was a transformative practice that enabled me to survive and thrive despite the significant challenges I faced. It provided me with the inner resources to heal, find strength, and build a better future for myself and my child. Through meditation, I found a path to resilience and well-being, even in the face of profound adversity.

Understanding the nature of our universe is not only a pursuit driven by curiosity but also a fundamental endeavor that shapes our future. The quest to explore the cosmos, unravel its mysteries, and understand its underlying principles drives innovation, fuels progress, and deepens our connection to the world around us. In many ways, this pursuit parallels the science of nursing—a field dedicated to understanding and improving the human condition through evidence-based care, scientific inquiry, and a commitment to bettering lives. The importance of studying the universe lies in its ability to answer some of the most profound questions of existence. Where do we come from? What is our place in the cosmos? How does the universe work? These questions, while abstract, have real-world implications. The discoveries made through astrophysics, quantum mechanics, and cosmology have led to technological advancements that permeate our daily lives. GPS systems, medical imaging, and even the internet have roots in scientific breakthroughs that began with a desire to understand the universe. Similarly, nursing, as a science, seeks to answer critical questions about health, healing, and human well-being. By applying scientific principles, nurses improve patient outcomes, advance healthcare, and contribute to the overall betterment of society. The science of nursing, much like the exploration of the universe, relies on a combination of theoretical knowledge and practical application. Just as cosmologists use theories like general relativity to understand black holes or dark matter, nurses apply principles of biology, chemistry, and physiology to understand the human body and improve patient care. The integration of these scientific concepts is crucial in both fields. For example, understanding cellular biology helps nurses grasp the mechanisms of disease, while knowledge of pharmacology enables them to administer treatments safely and effectively. The nursing process—assessing, diagnosing, planning, implementing, and evaluating—mirrors the scientific method, emphasizing the importance of observation, hypothesis, experimentation, and analysis. Moreover, both fields benefit from interdisciplinary collaboration. In nursing, advancements often come from integrating knowledge across various disciplines, such as psychology, sociology, and technology. This holistic approach ensures that care is comprehensive, addressing not just physical symptoms but also emotional, social, and mental well-being. Similarly, understanding the universe requires collaboration across physics, astronomy, chemistry, and mathematics. The synergy between these disciplines fosters innovation, leading to new discoveries and improved methods for exploring the cosmos or delivering healthcare. Ultimately, the pursuit of understanding—whether it’s the vastness of the universe or the complexities of the human body—enriches our lives and drives progress. The science of nursing, grounded in evidence-based practice and continuous learning, embodies this pursuit. By embracing scientific inquiry, applying interdisciplinary knowledge, and remaining committed to improving outcomes, nursing contributes to the well-being of individuals and communities, much like how advancements in understanding the universe contribute to the broader human experience. Both fields remind us that exploration, discovery, and the application of knowledge are essential to building a better future.

I realized I was meant for this path when I found myself repeatedly drawn into situations where I was helping others. Surprisingly, seven years ago, healthcare was not even on my radar. At the time, I had no particular interest in the field. However, one day by chance, I came across a flyer for a Certified Nursing Assistant (CNA) class. The class was free, and it came with a job guarantee. This opportunity seemed to come out of nowhere, and although I didn’t know it at the time, it would set me on a life-changing journey. I decided to take the leap and enroll in the class. After completing the training and graduating, I began working as a CNA. What started as a random opportunity quickly turned into a calling that I embraced wholeheartedly. For the next seven years, I worked as a CNA, finding deep fulfillment in serving others. I believe that this career found me as much as I found it. Through my experiences, I discovered a sense of purpose I hadn’t anticipated. I prayed for a job that would not only provide for my needs but also give me a sense of fulfillment and connection to something greater than myself. My prayers were answered, and I knew I was called to serve in healthcare. Over time, as I gained more experience and learned from each patient interaction, I felt a growing desire to advance further in the field. The challenges I faced were numerous, from balancing work with personal responsibilities to navigating the emotional demands of caregiving. Yet, my faith kept me strong and motivated me to push through these obstacles. Despite the many hurdles, I remained steadfast in my pursuit of growth within the healthcare industry. My faith played a crucial role in sustaining me through difficult times, reminding me that I was on the right path. The challenges I encountered only strengthened my resolve to climb higher up the ladder and continue making a difference in the lives of those I serve. Looking back, it’s clear that my journey into healthcare was not just a career choice; it was a calling that found me when I least expected it. Today, as I prepare to advance my education and career, I am grateful for the experiences and challenges that have shaped me. They have not only deepened my commitment to this path but have also reinforced my belief that I am where I am meant to be.

Being a single mom I have been stuck in this cycle of not being able to work and go to school without my family suffering. I barely made it work the last two years while completing my prerequisites online. Now that I have been accepted into a nursing program, I have no time to work. The program being 5 days a week, with time for homework, and tending to my children, I am faced with the major challenge of paying for our basic needs while in school. If i can maximize grants, loans, and financial aid i could make sure our basic needs are met while on this two-year journey. I want to provide a better future for my children by graduating college and settling into a promising career. I know with help from this scholarship we would be one step closer to getting out needs met for this challenge that lies ahead. I have done everything in my power to lower expenses. I applied for income-based housing over a year ago and I'm still waiting. I am maxed out on all-state assistance. I paid off personal loans before I got into my nursing program to help offset monthly expenses. I only have the needs, and skip the wants. I've worked hard to get my little family ready for these 2 years of nursing school, i had hoped we would have housing assistance by now but i was mistaken. The biggest expense is rent. I could stretch loans and financial aid, but the program is so expensive being double what the pre reqs were which basically takes away all my grants leaving me with 2,000 to last 3 months. my rent is 1350, so that only covers 1.5 months rent. I aspire to be a Registered Nurse. I am unsure of the specialty I would like to work in, but I know it would be in a hospital setting. I have worked as a CNA for 7 years, 2 of which were done traveling to different hospitals in Washington State. I enjoyed the Emergency Department and ICU. It's hard to say which specialty I would want to work in until I have completed my clinicals for nursing school. I have accomplished my prerequisites and have been accepted into a 2-year nursing program starting Fall 2024. There are many options for Registered Nurses, which drew me to the profession. Having a background in the field and assisting nurses for 7 years solidified my decision to become a Registered Nurse.
