This Woman's Worth Scholarship
I believe I am worth the dreams I aspire to achieve because I have proven to myself, time and time again, that I am willing to work hard, overcome challenges, and create opportunities rather than wait for them to appear. My journey so far has not been easy, but it has been filled with determination, perseverance, and a deep passion for building something meaningful both for myself and for others.
At 17, I started my own small business, M&K Sno Cones, with the simple goal of helping pay for my college education. What I didn’t realize at the time was that this business would become one of my greatest teachers. It taught me responsibility, leadership, and how to stay strong when things got hard. Running my business while balancing school required long hours and sacrifices, but it also gave me confidence and the belief that I can accomplish anything I put my mind to.
Beyond building my business, I have always been passionate about giving back. In high school, I was an active member of the National Honor Society, where I participated in multiple volunteer opportunities. I mentored kindergarteners from broken homes, which showed me the impact that compassion and encouragement can have on a child’s life. I also volunteered with autism foundations, where I learned to celebrate differences and create moments of joy for families. These experiences are a reminder of why I strive to be someone who uplifts others, no matter where I am in life.
I am currently pursuing a Marketing degree at Lamar University because I want to take the lessons I’ve learned as an entrepreneur and use them to build a career where I can combine creativity, business strategy, and community impact. My dream is not just to succeed in my field but to create opportunities for others—whether that means growing my business into something that employs and mentors young people or using my marketing skills to support meaningful causes.
I believe I am worth my dreams because I have never let challenges define me. I pay for my own education, and while this requires a great deal of work and focus, it also pushes me to strive for excellence in everything I do. I am proud of the young woman I am becoming—someone who is not afraid of hard work, who cares deeply for others, and who is committed to creating a positive impact wherever I go.
I know that my dreams are bigger than just my personal success. I want to live a life of purpose, one where I inspire other women to believe that they, too, are capable of reaching for more, no matter what obstacles stand in their way. With the support of this scholarship, I can continue my journey with the confidence and resources I need to pursue my goals and turn my dreams into reality.
Kalia D. Davis Memorial Scholarship
My name is Madison Sampson, and I am currently an undergraduate student at Lamar University pursuing a degree in Marketing. I have always believed in working hard and creating my own opportunities, which is why I am paying for my education on my own. Balancing school, work, and my small business, M&K Sno Cones, has not always been easy, but these challenges have taught me the value of perseverance, responsibility, and determination.
Throughout my life, I have been committed to serving my community and giving back whenever possible. In high school, I was an active member of the National Honor Society, where I completed numerous volunteer projects. One of the most meaningful experiences was mentoring kindergarteners from broken homes. Spending time with those children taught me compassion, patience, and the importance of being a positive role model. I also volunteered with autism foundations, supporting families and helping with community events that aimed to create a safe and joyful environment for children. These experiences have shaped my character and fueled my passion for helping others.
I have also gained leadership and entrepreneurial experience through running M&K Sno Cones, which I started at 17. My business has allowed me to give back to schools, local fundraisers, and autism awareness events. Through these opportunities, I have learned how meaningful it is to create moments of joy while supporting causes that bring the community together. My small business has also been a way for me to fund my education and build a future for myself, which I am incredibly proud of.
This scholarship would be a life-changing opportunity for me. As someone who is fully funding my education, I often have to balance my time between working and studying, which can be overwhelming. Receiving this scholarship would alleviate some of the financial stress and allow me to focus more on my classes and future career. It would also help me invest more time into community projects and expanding my business so I can continue giving back in meaningful ways.
Kalia D. Davis’s story is inspiring to me because I share her values of hard work, kindness, and ambition. I have always believed in striving for excellence, no matter the challenge, and I want to live a life that reflects those values. My ultimate goal is to build a career in marketing where I can use creativity and strategy to make a positive impact on businesses and communities.
With the support of this scholarship, I will be able to continue working toward my goals while honoring the values that Kalia lived by. Her legacy of living, loving, laughing, and learning is something I want to carry with me as I push forward and strive to be the best version of myself.
Brandon Repola Memorial Scholarship
I believe in living life to the fullest, embracing every opportunity to grow, learn, and connect with others. Life is too short to let fear or doubt hold you back, and I try to approach every challenge with the mindset that I can achieve whatever I set my mind to. This belief has shaped who I am today and has inspired me to pursue my passions with determination.
My area of focus in school is Marketing, with a strong interest in digital marketing and how technology connects people, businesses, and ideas. I am currently pursuing a Bachelor’s degree in Marketing at Lamar University, where I am building the foundation I need to turn my creativity and passion into a meaningful career. Digital marketing excites me because it is constantly evolving and combines strategy, innovation, and technology to reach people in unique ways.
My passion for marketing began when I started my own small business, M&K Sno Cones, at 17 years old. Running a business taught me that success requires not only hard work but also the ability to adapt, create, and connect with customers on a personal level. I learned how to manage social media accounts, design promotional content, and create excitement for my brand online. Those experiences showed me how powerful digital marketing can be when you tell an authentic story that resonates with your audience.
In everything I do, I aim to live fully and give my best. Through my business, I have partnered with local schools, autism foundations, and community events to bring people together and give back in meaningful ways. I believe that making a positive impact is part of truly living life to the fullest, and I try to carry that belief into all areas of my work and education.
I plan to continue pursuing my goals by strengthening my knowledge of digital marketing, social media strategy, and videography. Video content is one of the most engaging ways to reach people today, and I want to develop my skills in this area to create content that inspires and connects. Brandon Repola’s passion for videography and digital marketing resonates with me because I share that same drive to use creativity and technology to leave a lasting impact.
In the future, I see myself working with companies to create campaigns that not only promote products but also tell meaningful stories that connect with audiences. I also plan to expand M&K Sno Cones into a larger business that provides mentorship and job opportunities for young people, teaching them about entrepreneurship and marketing. My long-term goal is to use my career to help others achieve their dreams while continuing to challenge myself and grow.
To accomplish these goals, I will keep seeking hands-on experiences, internships, and opportunities to learn. I know that living life fully means stepping outside of your comfort zone and pushing yourself to grow every day. My journey so far has shown me that with determination and passion, anything is possible.
FIAH Scholarship
My name is Madison Sampson, and I am an undergraduate student at Lamar University pursuing a degree in Marketing. I am passionate about combining creativity, leadership, and community service to make a positive impact on the world. Growing up, I learned the importance of hard work, giving back, and believing in yourself even when the odds feel stacked against you. Those values were tested and strengthened when I launched my own small business, M&K Sno Cones, at the age of 17.
What began as a way to help pay for my college education quickly became something much bigger. Running M&K Sno Cones has given me a platform to connect with my community and give back in meaningful ways. I have partnered with schools to support student events, worked with autism awareness organizations, and participated in local fundraisers to create moments of joy for families and children. These experiences have shown me that even small acts of kindness can make a big difference, and they have fueled my drive to build a career that allows me to inspire and support others.
Community involvement has been a major part of my journey. During high school, I participated in multiple volunteer activities, including school events and local charity fundraisers, where I learned how important teamwork and connection are in creating positive change. Whether I was helping with events or serving customers at my business, I found that my true passion lies in bringing people together and making their day just a little bit brighter.
I chose to pursue marketing because I believe it is a powerful tool for creating meaningful connections. Marketing is about understanding people, telling authentic stories, and building trust. My long-term goal is to work with companies that share my values and to use my career to promote initiatives that make a difference, whether that means supporting local businesses, raising awareness for social causes, or creating opportunities for others. I also hope to expand M&K Sno Cones into a larger business that provides jobs for young people and teaches them valuable entrepreneurial and customer service skills.
Making a positive impact on the world does not require grand gestures. I believe it starts with small, consistent actions—showing kindness, working hard, and giving back whenever you can. My career goals are rooted in that belief. I want to build a future where my success is measured not only by professional achievements but by the lives I’ve touched along the way.
With the support of this scholarship, I can continue my education, grow my business, and take the next steps toward a career that blends creativity with service. I am committed to using the opportunities I have been given to inspire others, support my community, and create a lasting, positive impact on the world.
Artense Lenell Sam Scholarship
My name is Madison Sampson, and I am an undergraduate student at Lamar University pursuing a Bachelor’s degree in Marketing. As a first-generation college student, I have always understood the value of hard work, determination, and finding opportunities to create a better future. My passion for business and community service began at a young age when I started my own small business, M&K Sno Cones, at the age of 17. While my original goal was to help pay for my education, running my business has become so much more than that. It has taught me valuable lessons about leadership, perseverance, and the impact that one person can make by serving others.
Through M&K Sno Cones, I have been able to give back to my community in ways I never imagined. I have partnered with schools, local organizations, and autism awareness groups to not only provide a fun experience but also support events that bring people together. These moments have shown me that success is not just about making money but about using your resources and skills to make a difference. Being part of these events has strengthened my commitment to continue giving back and helping others.
My future career goal is to become a marketing professional who not only excels in business but also prioritizes community impact. I am fascinated by how marketing can connect people with ideas and products that improve their lives. I want to work with businesses that share my values and help them grow in ways that are authentic, sustainable, and community-focused. My dream is to one day expand M&K Sno Cones into a larger venture that employs local youth and provides opportunities for them to learn entrepreneurship, customer service, and leadership.
I also believe strongly in using my education to mentor and inspire others, particularly young people who may feel limited by their circumstances. Growing up, I learned that hard work and perseverance can open doors, even when resources are scarce. I want to be the kind of leader who not only achieves her own goals but also helps others discover their potential.
Making a positive impact on my community is something I see as a lifelong mission. Whether it is through hosting events, supporting local causes, or mentoring future entrepreneurs, I want to create meaningful connections and give back in ways that truly matter. Community is about supporting each other, and I want to be a voice of encouragement and an example of what is possible when you combine education, creativity, and determination.
My journey as a business owner and student has shaped me into someone who believes in chasing big goals while never forgetting the importance of serving others. With the support of this scholarship, I will continue my education, grow my skills, and work toward a future where I can make a lasting impact on my community.
Sweet Dreams Scholarship
Community has always been a driving force in my life. I believe that real strength comes from the way we lift one another up, and being part of a supportive community has given me hope for the future in countless ways. My experiences with both volunteering and running my small business, M&K Sno Cones, have shown me that even small acts of kindness and connection can create ripples of positivity. These moments remind me that no matter what challenges we face, we can always find ways to bring joy and hope to others.
One of the most meaningful experiences I have had was when I partnered with an autism awareness organization for a local event. I served snow cones to children and families, and I saw how something as simple as a cold treat on a warm day could brighten someone’s entire afternoon. Many of the parents came up to thank me, not just for the snow cones, but for showing up and supporting a cause that meant so much to them. That day, I realized how powerful it is when businesses and individuals give back to their communities. It is not just about what you provide but how you make people feel.
Through M&K Sno Cones, I have also partnered with local schools to help raise money for student activities and events. Watching students and teachers come together to enjoy a fun day while knowing that my business was helping support their programs gave me a sense of pride and purpose. These experiences taught me that community is about more than just living in the same area. It is about actively contributing, supporting others, and celebrating together.
Being part of a community has shaped my sense of hope by showing me that people are resilient, caring, and willing to work together to create better outcomes. Even during challenging times, I have witnessed the way communities rally together to support one another. I have seen it firsthand when families gather at school events I participate in, or when neighbors come together to make a local event successful. Those moments give me faith that the future is bright because we are not alone in our struggles.
What I have learned through giving back is that kindness is contagious. When you take the time to show up for your community, others are inspired to do the same. It is not always about doing something big or impressive. Sometimes, it is about taking a small action that has a big impact on someone else’s day.
In the future, I plan to continue growing my role in the community by expanding my business and using it as a platform to support local causes. I also want to mentor other young entrepreneurs, helping them understand how businesses can be a force for good. Community involvement is not something I see as optional; it is a responsibility we all share.
Being part of a community has shaped me into a more compassionate and hopeful person. It has shown me that connection and kindness can make a difference in ways that go far beyond what we can see in the moment. I am inspired to continue leading with those values in everything I do, both now and in the future.
Ross Mitchell Memorial Scholarship
For as long as I can remember, I have had a deep love for learning. To me, learning is not something that ends when you leave the classroom. It is a way of living, a mindset that drives personal growth and opens doors to endless possibilities. My curiosity has shaped who I am today and continues to guide me as I pursue my education, my business, and my future goals.
One of the most impactful ways learning has shaped me is through my experience as a young business owner. At 17, I started M&K Sno Cones with no prior knowledge of what it would take to build and manage a business. I had to learn everything from the ground up—budgeting, marketing, customer service, and even how to handle unexpected challenges. Every day running my business has taught me something new, whether it was how to handle a setback or how to connect with my community in meaningful ways. This hands-on learning gave me confidence that I can take on challenges and succeed, even when I start with very little knowledge.
Outside of business, my curiosity drives me to always look for ways to better myself and expand my understanding of the world. I enjoy exploring subjects beyond what is required in school, from understanding how businesses operate to studying creative marketing strategies. I believe that every new skill or piece of knowledge adds to my ability to make an impact. Learning is not just about earning a degree; it is about discovering how to contribute to the world around me.
This mindset has influenced my outlook on life. I see challenges as opportunities to grow rather than obstacles to avoid. For example, balancing school with running a business has not always been easy, but it taught me time management, perseverance, and problem-solving. These lessons are just as valuable as anything I have learned in a classroom. Every experience, whether successful or difficult, has shown me that learning is the key to both personal and professional growth.
Looking toward the future, my love for learning will guide me in my career in marketing. I am currently pursuing a Marketing degree at Lamar University because I want to combine creativity with strategy to help businesses connect with people in authentic ways. Marketing is constantly evolving, and I know that my curiosity and willingness to keep learning will allow me to thrive in a field that requires innovation and adaptability. I want to continue building my skills not just to succeed professionally, but to create meaningful and positive change in the businesses and communities I work with.
Learning has taught me to be resilient, creative, and open-minded. It has shaped my values and shown me that growth happens when you embrace challenges and approach life with curiosity. Just like Ross Mitchell, I believe in living fully and constantly seeking opportunities to learn something new. This passion for discovery is what motivates me to keep striving for excellence, both in my education and in the impact I hope to make in the world.
Iliana Arie Scholarship
I have always believed that the challenges we face are meant to shape us, not stop us. My story is defined by perseverance, ambition, and a desire to create something meaningful that benefits not just me but the people around me. At 17, I turned an idea into reality by starting my own small business, M&K Sno Cones. Running a business at such a young age was not easy. I had to balance school, customer service, and day-to-day operations, but the experience taught me the value of determination and responsibility. I learned that success is not about waiting for the right opportunity but about creating it for yourself.
Through M&K Sno Cones, I discovered how powerful it can be to make a positive difference in the community. What started as a way to save for my education quickly turned into something more. I began partnering with schools, autism organizations, and local events to give back. Whether it was providing snow cones at school fundraisers or supporting community gatherings, I realized that my business could do more than just serve customers. It could bring people together. That feeling of connection and purpose is what inspires me to keep going and to find new ways to grow.
I am currently pursuing a Marketing degree at Lamar University because I want to expand on the lessons I have learned as a business owner. Marketing excites me because it is about more than just promoting products. It is about telling a story, creating value, and building relationships with people. I want to take my creativity and business skills to a professional level where I can help companies grow in a way that also gives back to the community. My long-term goal is to work with businesses that share my values, using marketing as a tool to promote authenticity, sustainability, and meaningful connections with their audiences.
What makes me unique as a scholarship candidate is my entrepreneurial spirit and the way I combine it with a genuine desire to help others. I have always believed in leading by example. I want to show other young people that you can create your own opportunities, even when life feels challenging. I also believe in lifting others up along the way, which is why I use my business as a platform for giving back. It is not just about earning money or building a name for myself. It is about leaving an impact that matters.
My upbringing and family values have also shaped who I am. My parents have shown me the importance of working hard, staying grounded, and pushing through difficult times with perseverance. I carry those values into everything I do, whether it is running my business, working toward my degree, or looking for ways to contribute to my community.
I plan to continue making a difference by combining my education, business experience, and passion for community service. In the future, I see myself not only growing M&K Sno Cones but also creating programs or initiatives that mentor young entrepreneurs and teach them the power of hard work, creativity, and persistence. I know how it feels to start with nothing but an idea, and I want to inspire others to believe in themselves the same way I did.
Iliana Arie Velez’s story of passion, energy, and determination resonates with me because I share that same drive. I want to live my life with purpose, striving to inspire others while chasing my own goals. With the support of this scholarship, I can continue building a future where I use my skills and leadership to create meaningful change.
Jimmy Cardenas Community Leader Scholarship
Life has tested me in ways I never could have imagined, but I have learned that strength is built when you choose to keep going, even when everything feels like it is falling apart. Over the past few years, I have faced challenges that could have broken me. I lost my grandfather to suicide, an experience that left my family heartbroken and searching for healing. Then, last Christmas, my mom spent three weeks in the hospital, and there were moments when we were told she might not make it. On top of that, I have had to navigate the difficulties of having a sister who struggles with mental health, which has brought its own challenges and responsibilities. While these moments were painful and overwhelming, I refused to let them defeat me. Instead, they taught me resilience, responsibility, and how to lead during times of crisis.
One of the most difficult moments of my life was watching my mom fight for her life in the hospital. I had to step into a new role almost overnight, taking on responsibilities I was not prepared for. I cared for my sister, managed our home, and still kept my own small business, M&K Sno Cones, running so I could help reduce financial stress for my family. It was exhausting and emotional, but I learned that real leadership is not about having everything under control. It is about staying steady when others need you most, finding solutions, and being willing to take on challenges even when you are afraid.
I have always believed in giving back, and my business has been one of the main ways I serve my community. Through M&K Sno Cones, I have partnered with schools, autism organizations, and local events to provide more than just a product. I want to create moments of joy for others while showing that even small businesses can make a positive impact. These experiences have shaped my understanding of leadership. It is not always about titles or recognition, but about showing up, caring for others, and creating something meaningful.
Being a first-generation college student has added another layer of determination to my journey. I am paying for my education on my own while working hard to maintain strong grades and grow as a business owner. Balancing school, work, and family has not been easy, especially with the challenges I have faced, but those moments have pushed me to be stronger and more focused on my goals. I know what it means to work hard and to overcome obstacles that might stop others from pursuing their dreams.
I want to take the lessons I have learned from these challenges and use them to continue building a better future. Whether through my business, my education, or my community involvement, I want to inspire others who are going through hard times to keep pushing forward. I know how difficult it can be to face struggles that feel impossible, but I have also learned that those struggles can shape us into stronger, more compassionate leaders.
My story is not defined by the challenges I have faced but by the way I have chosen to rise above them. I will continue to lead with empathy, perseverance, and the belief that even the hardest seasons of life can prepare us to create something better for ourselves and for others.
Neal Hartl Memorial Sales/Marketing Scholarship
From a young age, I was drawn to the idea of building something meaningful and finding ways to connect with people. When I was 17, I started M&K Sno Cones, a small business that I built from the ground up. Running my own business taught me how powerful marketing can be, even on a small scale. The way I promoted my business, created a brand, and engaged with my customers directly impacted whether I succeeded or failed. This experience sparked my passion for marketing and showed me that it is more than just selling a product; it is about creating a story and forming relationships with people.
I chose to study marketing because I want to take the skills I learned from my business and grow them into a career that allows me to help companies and organizations succeed. I have seen firsthand how important it is to understand your audience and build trust with them. When I started promoting my business, I relied on creative ideas, social media, and word of mouth to spread awareness. It was not always easy, but I found it exciting to find new ways to reach customers and make my business stand out. I want to bring that same energy and creativity to a professional marketing career.
What inspires me most about marketing is that it is constantly evolving. There is always a new challenge, whether it is understanding new consumer behaviors, adapting to digital trends, or finding ways to market products in a way that feels authentic and meaningful. I enjoy thinking outside the box and finding solutions that make people stop and pay attention. I also love the idea of helping a brand grow and seeing how effective marketing can create real impact for both a business and its customers.
My motivation for pursuing this career also comes from being a first-generation college student. I want to prove to myself and my family that I can turn my passions into a successful career. I have worked hard to pay for my own education and run a business at the same time, which has taught me perseverance and determination. Marketing gives me a chance to combine my entrepreneurial spirit with my creativity, and that is something I find deeply fulfilling.
In the future, I see myself working in a role where I can help businesses build strong, genuine connections with their customers. I want to focus on strategies that are not only effective but also meaningful. Whether it is through storytelling, branding, or social media campaigns, I want to use marketing to create positive experiences and inspire people to take action.
Marketing is not just a career path for me, it is something I am passionate about. I love the challenge, the creativity, and the ability to make an idea come to life. My journey as a small business owner was just the beginning, and I am excited to see how I can take that experience and use it to create a successful and impactful career in marketing.
Future Green Leaders Scholarship
The first time I threw away an entire bag of empty plastic snow cone cups from my small business, I felt a wave of guilt. I started M&K Sno Cones at 17, focusing on making the business work and keeping costs low. At the time, I chose whatever supplies were cheapest and easiest to get. But as I watched bags of plastic cups and straws pile up after just one day, I realized how much waste a single small business could produce. That moment stayed with me. I knew I had to do something to lessen my impact on the environment. I started using biodegradable cups and paper straws, and I encouraged customers to recycle whenever possible. To my surprise, many customers not only noticed but thanked me for making the change. That experience showed me how businesses, no matter their size, can influence people and make a real difference for the planet.
Sustainability should be a priority in business because companies have an enormous influence on how resources are used and how waste is managed. Businesses have the power to create meaningful change by setting examples for their customers and communities. In marketing, this responsibility is even stronger. Marketing does more than sell a product. It tells a story, creates values, and influences the way people see the world. When businesses make sustainability a part of their brand, they not only build trust but also inspire others to care about the environment. I believe that good marketing should not just promote products but also promote responsible habits that benefit both people and the planet.
Through my experience as a business owner, I learned that sustainability is not just a moral decision but also a smart business strategy. Customers want to support companies that are responsible and authentic. When I switched to eco-friendly supplies, my customers responded positively, and it gave me a stronger connection with the community I serve. I realized that sustainability can improve a business’s reputation while also helping protect the environment. This is a lesson I want to take into my career in marketing.
In the future, I want to work with companies to create marketing strategies that highlight real environmental efforts, not just empty words. I see myself helping businesses rethink the way they operate, from the materials they use to how they communicate with customers. I want to create campaigns that tell genuine stories of change and inspire others to take action. I believe marketing has the power to shift public opinion and push companies to be more mindful about their environmental impact.
My long-term goal is to use my career to bring together profitability and sustainability. I want to show that businesses do not have to choose between doing what is right for the planet and being successful. I also hope to continue mentoring and encouraging other small business owners to adopt eco-friendly practices. If my small snow cone business can make changes that customers notice and appreciate, larger companies can do even more.
Caring for the planet is no longer optional. It is essential for the health of future generations and the long-term success of businesses. Through my work in marketing, I want to play a role in shaping a future where companies can thrive while making responsible choices. By combining my passion for business with my commitment to sustainability, I believe I can make a lasting difference.
