I plan on becoming a Physical Therapy Assistant and getting an associates in Physical Science after I graduate high school in May of 2025. After that I plan on becoming a TA, going back for my Bachelors in Physical Science, and eventually becoming a Physical therapist and Travel Agent. With your help, this will only take me 7 years. As a Neuro-divergent woman, I love being perfectly organized. I am a well organized person and believe my fields will both help people which is what I love and also give me a chance to do what I love with organization for peoples travel and healthcare.

**Empowerment: A Path to Personal Growth and Positive Change** Empowerment is a deeply transformative concept that can shape an individual's life in profound ways. At its core, empowerment refers to the process of gaining control, confidence, and the ability to influence one's own circumstances and decisions. It encompasses personal strength, self-worth, and the ability to overcome challenges. This concept extends beyond individuals to communities, societies, and organizations, where it manifests in the ability of people to claim their rights, assert their needs, and change the status quo. The impact of empowerment is far-reaching, as it helps individuals break free from limitations, pursue their potential, and create positive change in their lives and the world around them. ### Personal Empowerment: A Journey of Self-Discovery Empowerment begins within, in the form of self-awareness and self-confidence. It is about understanding one’s own worth and abilities, recognizing personal strengths, and confronting weaknesses with resilience. For me, empowerment is fundamentally tied to the idea of personal growth. It allows individuals to break free from the shackles of doubt and fear, enabling them to step into their full potential. In my own life, empowerment means taking control of my choices and acknowledging that I am responsible for shaping my future. Rather than relying on external validation or approval, I have learned to trust my judgment, make decisions based on my values, and take ownership of both my successes and failures. Through this process, I have gained confidence in my abilities, and this has had a ripple effect on my personal and professional life. Empowerment provides the courage to take risks, to challenge myself, and to approach life’s obstacles with a mindset of resilience. ### The Role of Empowerment in Relationships and Communities Empowerment also plays a critical role in how we interact with others and the world. When individuals feel empowered, they are more likely to support and uplift others, contributing to stronger relationships and communities. In my experience, the empowerment of others is equally as important as personal empowerment. Empowering people around us—whether friends, family, or colleagues—can create a positive and supportive environment where everyone can thrive. In many ways, empowerment fosters collaboration and shared growth. When individuals are encouraged to take initiative, make decisions, and voice their opinions, they are more likely to be engaged and motivated. In this sense, empowerment isn’t just about individual success—it’s about creating a culture of mutual respect, inclusivity, and collective progress. Empowering those around me has allowed me to form stronger, more meaningful connections, and has instilled in me the importance of collaboration, empathy, and supporting one another’s growth. ### Societal Empowerment: Breaking Barriers and Challenging Injustice On a broader scale, empowerment has the power to change societies and break systemic barriers. Historically, many marginalized groups have fought for the empowerment of their voices and rights. Injustice, inequality, and discrimination continue to be prominent issues in various societies, but empowerment movements have led to meaningful change, often through collective action. The Civil Rights Movement in the United States, the women’s suffrage movement, and the global fight for LGBTQ+ rights are just a few examples of how collective empowerment can challenge oppression and create social justice. Empowerment on a societal level transcends individual gain and focuses on creating environments where everyone has equal opportunities, rights, and access to resources.

My name is Madison Clark and I plan on moving to Arkansas to be able to peruse a degree in Physical Therapy to become a Physical Therapy Assistant. With this scholarship, it would make it much easier for me to peruse this degree. I plan on staying near colleges in order to help athletes recover and get back to doing what they love. I would also like to help any injured peoples recover in an outpatient setting. I love being active, and I also love helping people. This scholarship will help me get there so I can help communities no matter where I end up. It is my dream to become a PTA. I have done research and see that those with the job help so many people. I have been working very hard to achieve this goal. I believe I am attentive enough to be able to pursue this well. I am a tennis player that is graduating high school this May and I plan to do sports in college as well. I have played tennis all of my life, I still remember the days on my grandmas tennis court in her apartment complex where we played against each other. I loved running around, especially as a lively child with ADHD. I still love running around, so being a PTA would be great while I stay active doing tennis as I work toward my degree to help other athletes! I am excited for my future. Another inspiration for my future is my great grandmother, whom I called Nana. While she was alive I helped her gain mobilization at age 11. I helped her walk, get into and out of her wheelchair, applied icepacks when she needed it, lied her down and all. I was glad to be able to help her. She was a wonderful woman with many stories to tell. Aging is a wonderful thing and if I can help people still thrive in an older age I know I will be grateful to have the opportunity to do so. Its a blessing to grow old, I wish to help the elderly feel as well as they can and regain their mobility as they grow. During my clinical hours, I was able to hear many stories from elders. I love hearing their stories. I cant wait to hear more of their stories during my workday while I help them recover. I know some of my patients that I help will be in pain, I have sprained parts of my body before as an athlete so I can relate at least somewhat. I will be forever for the opportunity to help these great people locally to me. Once my family grows old, I would like to use my Physical Therapy Assistant knowledge to help them feel the best they can, too. Thank you for reading.

God has impacted my life significantly, and I am so glad for the life he gave me. Before I truly gave my life to Christ, I was baptized by my parents a good few times. I was very depressed and stuck on a medicine for ADHD that suppressed everything about me and honestly controlled me (goodbye, Adderall.). I truly became a believer when I was off the medicine and was able to heal. I was taken off of the medicine because of an anxiety attack that hospitalized me in November of 2022, and I was taken out of the hospital that December. It left a scar that was only able to heal with going to Church and connecting with the lord, which luckily back then I knew who he was despite not diving into my faith yet then. I was on the medicine from ages 4 to 16. I have since been off of the medicine for 2 years now, and thanks to my faith I have grown as a person significantly. "Do not be afraid" is my favorite biblical quote and I refer back to it multiple times a day in my head. Whilst on the medicine, I was depressed, anxious, timid and scared. Now I am outgoing, hardworking, kind, and ambitious. I was made perfectly in his image and am put on this earth to act like Jesus, help my family, help others by becoming a physical therapist in the meantime, and spread the word. I still struggle with anxiety from time to time due to having PCOS which messes with my hormones; however through my faith I find extreme comfort in the Lord. Praise him! It is amazing knowing that I have someone to talk to, God gives his toughest battles to his strongest soldiers. My family is poor, and luckily due to good housing market in 2021 we moved into a house in the country with 8 archers of land, we haven't used the land for anything but gardening so far, but we plan on boarding horses with it. We need a lot of money to start the business, luckily though we have been blessed with a barn and a drive! We have been fixing up the land for years now, and the lord has given us enough strength to fix it. I am excited to have a easy financial source for my extremely low income family, I live with my parents on their land and I plan on doing furniture flipping with my grandmother who lives with us as well as boarding horses; both new to me. Coming from Memphis, TN, this will be significantly different from how I grew up but I am very excited. I cant wait to simply be able to walk into the backyard, walk the horses around, take care of the animals, and then be done working for the day until I clock in to help people as a Physical Therapist Assistant, how wonderful! I love living in the country and I would love living off of its wonderful soils much more. My chronic illness of PCOS showed its symptoms after I got off of my ADHD medicine. It was hard to adapt to due to the pain, however with my friends and faith I have adapted. My parents, sibling that lives with us, and I read the bible together every day and it brings us together. I love the lord and love to show who he is to my friends and family. Thank you for your consideration, may you be blessed forever. - Madison Clark

A time I experienced adversity was whenever I found out I was diagnosed with PCOS; just before the symptoms appeared, I rapidly stopped taking Adderall for ADHD. I had been taking it for most of my life, from 4 years old to 16 years old. It had suppressed all of my symptoms for all of my life, until when I got off of it at such a different age. My body had started to experience extreme cramps and I had mensural cycles that lasted for months and severely impacted my mood & anxiety. I also gained 60 pounds very rapidly due to this experience. I was diagnosed in 2024, later than I had gotten off of it but the symptoms certainly showed for it. Due to the stomach issues I had never experienced before, I had to completely stop eating sugar and gluten; and have been told to stop consuming dairy as well. These things have certainly impacted my life as my diet had to do a complete 360; which was difficult to do when coming from a low-income household and is still a struggle from time to time. I had gotten off of the ADHD medicine due to a severe anxiety attack I experienced at the end of November in 2022 that hospitalized me. I was never hospitalized for an anxiety attack until then. However, I will be forever grateful that I was taken off of that medicine. While on my ADHD medicine, I acted as if I were a robot, lacking emotion and expression, battling with depression from the ages of 9-13 years old and being extremely quiet. I locked myself in my room all alone for years upon years; to the point that my door was removed. I was timid and scared all of the time, and not wanting to get off of the medicine as I did not know what the problem was. I acted very irresponsibly during the time. I was frightened of anxiety medicine, because it was called an "anti-depressant" and as depression scared me so badly, I did not want to get on such medicine. Luckily though, I can safely say now that I have grown into my own self. I planned to help myself by taking to my family. Now, at age 18, I can safely say that I am much better now. I do have chronic illness and all I am in pain often, but I do what the doctor says and take care of myself. What I wish to do is to help others, it gives me immense joy to do as such, knowing that I have been in complete despair too; not physically as those I would like to take care of, but mentally. I love my family, I love my life, and I love my new friends. My perception has been changed immensely, I am now a Christian and with that comfort and knowing I can talk to someone, it's wonderful. It is hard to describe how grateful I am for the life I lead. I plan with the money I make from my career, I want to help start a family business of taking care of horses and other animals. Right now, I work a job at the church in childcare on Fridays. I have anxiety but I am very happy now- I am on birth control for PCOS and Anxiety medicine now and I no longer vape or smoke. I take care of myself through exercise, prayer, having fun with friends and self care! I hope my story inspires one day. Thank you for your consideration.
