Bio
I believe in living life to the fullest. One of the key elements in my life is running. When I run, I truly feel like it is a way for me to relax and get away from the chaotic and loud world. Running makes me feel at peace with myself, and connected with God and his astonishing creation. Running has led me to realize what I want to do with my life, which is become an emergency room nurse. This job requires you to work well under stress and with people. I want to help people who are in desperate need of it. The emergency room part comes from my love of chaotic and lively situations. In this ideal job, I will be able to aid patients when they need it most. Last March, I was went on a mission trip to Nicaragua. During my time in there, I taught CPR, and Blood Pressure to a small village. With my my interest in nursing, I was able to accomplish this task successfully. Once home from Nicaragua, I truly learned how blind I was. Before the trip, I was distracted and as grateful as I should have been. Everyday, I make an intentional effort to be more grateful for the little things in life. In October, I’ll be going on a mission trip to Tanzania, where the primary task at hand is to try and solve the Fluorosis problem in Tanzania. Millions of people in Tanzania suffer from Fluorosis, and I want to help be part of the solution to put an end to their suffering. Besides working on the Fluorosis issue, while I am in Tanzania I will be attempting to summit Mount Kilimanjaro. “You only get one life, but if you live it well enough, that’s all you need.” That is the life I seek.

Textbooks and Tatami Martial Arts Scholarship
After participating in martial arts for over five years, I have learned valuable lessons. The most important lessons for me are discipline and courtesy. Discipline is training oneself to do something in a controlled manner. I am forced to constantly be disciplined in academics and athletics. Every day I am disciplined to make sure my homework is completed and every test has been studied for. This is not enjoyable for me, yet I still do the work because I know that it will pay off in the future, through college scholarships. Another aspect of my life that requires discipline is my running schedule. I run five days a week and follow a schedule to increase mileage. There are days when I have no desire to go for a run. However, due to the discipline that has been installed in me through martial arts, I will go on the runs even when It is difficult to.
I believe a valuable lesson is to always treat people with courtesy. The definition of courtesy is "the showing of politeness and respect in one's attitude and behavior towards others". I was raised that if you weren't showing courtesy to others, especially if they were an adult, then I would get in trouble. Courtesy is a trait that has been lost in todays society, and I feel that respect for others has declined dramatically. I make it my mission daily to try and be as respectful as I can to my parents, teachers and peers.
Smart Service Scholarship
I am highly interested in pursuing a career path in nursing, specifically working as an emergency room nurse. The emergency room is a very high stress environment where every second matters. That’s the type of hustle and bustle I would really love to be apart of. Because I thrive under large amounts pressure and stress, I would be able to use this uncommon, yet useful, skill to help the emergency room flow more smoothly and even possibly save even more lives than ever before. One of the main reasons I want to be an emergency room nurse is because I want to help those who need help quickly and efficiently. I have been in and out of the hospital a handful of times through out my childhood, and believe me, I have had some remarkably fabulous nurses over the years. But my favorite nurses that I felt where truly making a difference in the moment where the nurses I saw when I was in the emergency room. I felt that those incredible nurses did genuinely cared about providing the best care for me and my medical situation. Another reason I feel nursing is the right path for me is because of my strong and intelligent mother. My mother is a nurse at Vanderbilt, and she truly loves her job when she helps the people who are in true need of care. I found it very convenient for my mother to diagnose my sickness and injuries when I was a child so I would not have to go to the doctor and spend an obscure amount of money just for some medicine that she already has or she could easily find at a pharmacy. Through our my childhood, having a parent with a career in the medical field made sickness and injuries much easier to manage. Because I want to be a mom of multiple children, I understand that my kids are going to get sick, they just are. I feel that when I become a nurse, my knowledge about medicine and human anatomy would help make sick days for my kids or injuries a little more understandable not just for me but for my beloved future children aswell.I feel that I owe it to those nurses, my future children, and my mother to become a nurse and do my best and try to heal the world one patient at a time.
Ms. Susy’s Disney Character Scholarship
My most loved Disney character is Rapunzal, who is the main character in the my favorite Disney movie, Tangled. Rapunzal is a free spirited teen who is ambitious, loving and a bit naive at times. She is my favorite character because she never stopped trying to pursue her dreams, not matter the how big the obstacles seemed to be at the time. For example, her dream was to see the lanterns that appear once a year in person, at the castle. However she would have to exit her tower and go into the scary, unforgiving world for the very first time, as a late teenager. To start her off on adventure of fortitude, she faces a large obstacle, which is leaving her tall, massive tower. Because her drive to see the lanterns in person is so uncontrollably grand and powerful, she makes the decision to exit and repel down the tower and into the frightening new world. Another reason why she is such a beloved character to myself is she was able to miraculously transform a heartless thief, Flynn Rider, into a sweet and caring man. Her actions of strong ambition inspire me, almost on a daily basis, to chase my passion for nursing and helping those in need no matter how difficult the task at hand may seem. Ever since I was a little girl, I would watch her persevere through the difficultly, awkwardness, and suffering to eventually reach her ultimate goal. Watching her actions really helped lead me into become the hard worker that I am today. I thought to myself, when I was still a little girl, if someone who had never experienced the true meaning of life and who had a cruel and nonsupporting mother could push through to reach her goals, then surely I could.
