My name is Madison Nicome and I am a sophomore marketing major from Brooklyn, New York. With a deep passion for education, creativity, and mentorship, I aims to launch my own marketing firm tailored specifically to Black women to close representational gaps. I aim to empower and uplift Black women by offering them innovative techniques, safe spaces, and focused resources to foster an environment that values authenticity.
As the daughter of a Trinidadian immigrant who built his path to owning an insurance firm, I learned early on the value of hard work and attained my high school diploma and Associate Degree in Early Childhood & Special Education simultaneously. I actively participates in on-campus organizations such as the American Marketing Association Howard Chapter and Pretty Brown Girls, which fosters self-acceptance and well-being for Black and Brown girls. She has also gained brand management and marketing experience as an intern at The Golden Hugh, an organization led by a Black woman CEO focused on dismantling mental, spiritual, and financial barriers. I am interested in the fields of marketing, media, and public relations.

I wholeheartedly believe that underrepresented communities can be improved through economic empowerment and business innovation, and open the doors to financial stability and generational wealth. I think that people, especially the youth, have the power to end certain cycles of economic distress and become changemakers in their communities if they are given the information, tools, and self-assurance to pursue entrepreneurship. My goal is to create an environment that encourages Black youth to dream big, start businesses that align with their passions, and develop economic independence that drives progress in the community as a whole.
At the ripe age of 13, I became the founder of Maddy Jean Designs, where I created and sold handmade jewelry. My experience exposed me to the realities of business ownership at a young age. Attending pop-up shops full of Black entrepreneurs, I was often the youngest person in the room. It was both inspiring and eye-opening, revealing how underrepresented communities thrive when given access to the right spaces, resources, and networks. With being a teacher to ages 4-12 and a mentor to incoming freshmen at my university, I have always had a strong commitment to education and mentoring. I hope to continue this passion by starting a nonprofit organization that teaches Black youth the fundamentals of entrepreneurship. My experience, definitely also brought attention to the inequalities that young entrepreneurs of color face in terms of exposure, finance, and education. By developing a program that offers Black youth instruction, mentorship, and possibilities, I hope to close that gap.
I plan to use my marketing career to support initiatives that invest in underrepresented communities, advocate for equitable access to resources, and uplift Black-owned businesses. My career goals genuinely align with my desire to drive social equity and justice. I want to become a marketing leader who not only elevates brands but also fosters inclusivity and representation within the industry. Marketing can shape narratives and shift cultural perceptions. It is an essential tool for promoting economic empowerment and truly showcasing these Black-owned businesses.
In the long run, I want to combine my skills in marketing, education, and entrepreneurship to create a nonprofit that fosters leadership, self-assurance, and financial literacy in Black youth. By doing this, I hope to start a chain reaction to empower and improve communities.
True social justice isn't just about breaking down barriers, it's about giving people the tools to create their own paths to success and live out their destiny.

I have a deep passion for education, and ever since I earned my Associate's in Early Childhood and Special Education at the age of 16, I knew that no matter what field I went into, I wanted to have an impact on future generations. I truly believe in the power of shaping young minds, and my experience as a teacher has given me the skills and understanding needed to nurture children, helping them grow into their best selves. One of my lifelong goals is to be a lifelong learner and to inspire that same love of learning in the children I work with. I firmly believe that children are our future, and it is genuinely satisfying to be a part of their journey as they discover who they are.
Beyond teaching, I want to start a nonprofit organization that encourages Black youth to dream big and recognize the beauty in entrepreneurship. I want to teach them about the principles of entrepreneurship and provide an environment where they can not only learn the basics of launching and operating a business, but also gain the confidence to believe in their ideas and their ability to effect change.
I used to have my own company called Maddy Jean Designs, where I created handmade jewelry. Being the youngest person in the room at pop-up shops full of Black entrepreneurs was both intimidating and motivating, and it piqued my desire to show young people that their dreams are real and attainable. By giving them the tools and resources to pursue entrepreneurship, I hope to open doors to leadership, creativity, and financial independence. More importantly, though, I want to build a community where they feel heard, seen, and empowered to take charge of their own destiny.
In addition to serving as a resource center, I see this nonprofit as a movement that encourages Black communities to be more ambitious, resilient, and innovative. I want young people to see the value of their ideas and see themselves represented in entrepreneurship. They should have the resources and encouragement to realize their goals, whether they are starting a company, making art, or playing a saturated sport. By mentoring, sharing stories, and working together, I want to give them the confidence that they can succeed. To leave a legacy that will inspire future generations, my ultimate goal is to make sure that more Black youth have the self-assurance and abilities to pursue business.
Education is power and I plan to use that to my advantage and uplift my community.
