Academically, I have maintained a GPA of approximately 3.8 while staying involved in several extracurricular activities. I am proud to have been selected as an Arkansas Girls State Representative, and I am also a member of the National Honor Society and Beta Club. In addition to my school and church responsibilities, I regularly volunteer at our local food bank and nursing homes. My goal after high school is to attend a four-year university and major in nursing. After earning my nursing degree, I plan to continue my education and earn a master’s in nursing so I can become a Nurse Practitioner specializing in behavioral health.I hear on the news all the time that after something tragic it happens in our communities the person was found to have some type of mental illness that went untreated or ignored. I believe this should not be ignored. My goal is to make mental health care easier to access and less stressful for people who need it and open a free, nonprofit clinic that has access to mental health services. I want to make mental healthcare easier to access and less stressful. I have personally seen a family member struggle to get mental health care and face many challenges and obstacles along the way. Sometimes there were no services available for his age group, other times insurance would not cover the care, and when care was available, it was often not enough. This experience was disheartening because many people who need mental health help already have a tough time asking for help, and the process of getting care can be overwhelming I have also thought about creating mobile mental health services, which would allow providers to meet people where they are instead of expecting them to figure everything out on their own. Many people in the mental health community lack a support system and they do not have people to help and guide them in the right direction. This clinic will offer services such as therapy, medication, support groups, help with finding jobs and housing, transportation, and other helpful resources. I believe that improving access to mental health care could also help reduce violence and improve communities overall. I believe this is my purpose when it pertains to the healthcare field. As far as working to address a social issue, I know many time young people do not feel that their votes count so they choose not to vote. Now that I am currently at an age where I can vote I am doing my due diligence my researching the candidates before I cast my vote.
