My life goal is to continue finding meaningful ways to help as many people as I can by applying the knowledge and skills I gain in college. I have always felt a strong calling to work with children and individuals with disabilities, supporting them in reaching their goals and improving their quality of life. This passion led me to gain early experience by working part-time in childcare and enrolling in early childhood education courses during high school. I am also excited to continue expanding my learning opportunities by taking nursing assistant and healthcare courses, which will provide me with a strong foundation in caring for others. Looking ahead, I am eager to pursue a career in occupational therapy, where I can combine my education and skills with my personal qualities of patience, kindness, and open-mindedness. I believe deeply that true progress begins with kindness and meeting people where they are, and I hope to carry that belief into my future career to make a lasting difference in the lives of others.

I had the opportunity to watch my grandmother as she worked with her home health occupational therapist and since, it has been my dream to help others the same way. Watching the genuine bond that formed between her and her therapist was a turning point in my life. I saw not only the physical progress she made, but also the way her confidence and independence were gradually restored. In those moments, I witnessed the profound impact that compassionate care can have on a person's dignity and quality of life.
Inspired by her journey I was motivated to help others in the same way. Whether volunteering at a local food pantry, leading as captain of my high school gymnastics team, or working at a childcare center where I discovered a deep passion for supporting children, I have consistently sought opportunities to serve others with empathy, passion, and patience. I was very excited when members of my church opened a community food pantry. The goal of the pantry was to provide a confidential twenty-four hour access to as many groceries as needed. Through this experience I learned the importance of allowing people to get the help that they need with dignity and respect. I also realized how big of an impact my small contribution made on the lives of people and families.
As the captain of my gymnastics team I lead with integrity and perseverance. I supported my teammates through successes and setbacks, encouraging them to push through challenges. I wanted to create an environment where everyone on the team felt valued regardless of their skill level. I understood that leadership was not about performance, but about uplifting the team and keeping a positive attitude even through mistakes.
My job at a local daycare has been especially meaningful in shaping my goals. Working closely with children has taught me patience and adaptibility. I have helped children develop essential skills, overcome frustrations, and build confidence in themselves. Whether comforting a child or celebrating small achievements with them, I have seen how consistent care and encouragement can make a long lasting impact. I created a very close bond with the children which made me realize that working with them was my passion in life. These moments have reinforced my desire to pursue occupational therapy, but in pediatrics, where I can help children overcome challenges early in life so they have every opportunity to grow, succeed, and thrive.
Katelyn's legacy of compassion, service, and integrity is reflected in the way she dedicated her life to helping others with kindness and compassion. I strive to have those same qualities in my own life by serving my community and supporting those around me with empathy and respect. Through my education and future career as an occupational therapist I hope to continue Katelyn's legacy by helping individuals overcome challenges, regain independence, and feel valued.
