Social Media is a raising impact that directly is affecting hundreds of teenagers. I can often feel more comparison, anxiety and sink into depressive episodes after the impact of mindless scrolling and likes. After losing a friend to suicide last year the impact of a community and world that mental health has becomes very apparent. Everyone wants to feel liked and seen and heard. Cyber bullying and hate comments can easily get out of hand with no one to hold accountable. The need for censorship and online wisdom is more prevelent than ever. Identity is moldable at such a young and and the influence of socail media and unrealistic standards has stolen the childhood and innocence of so many children. Kids need to be outside and playing not doing skincare and makeup routines. Many young people already struggle with self esteem and wjen they are seeing glimpses of all the unrealistic lives only shown on social media can lead to even lower confidence and beliefs about themselves. Social media exposed me to foul language much too soon. And the horror stories from social media are endless. Many things can be done to address the negative impact. People can raise awareness of the harm and how to be safer online. The addressing of the issues that come with this can be the future of menta health awareness. Talking about the effects and showing people that there is more to life than screens can impact not just their lives but entire online communities. The social media censorship’s and age limits can also help. Parents and individuals setting time limits and watching what is being exposed can help. Helping people realize there is deeper meaning to life than the jealous that can cultivate through a screen can help as well. As well and telling people to have worth outside of the way they present themselves on social media and the need to be seen. Adults and actual social media intervention can help with the mental health and self esteem. Furthermore actual supportive online community groups can be beneficial and give people connections that wouldn’t otherwise connect with. But the base of being aware safe and smart is something more people need to be informed with. Monitoring mental health and knowing wjen to put social media away and ask for help can truly be life changing and impacting. Self esteem and mental health is truly impacted by social media but this issue can and will be changed in our lifetime.
