Once Upon a #BookTok Scholarship
#BookTok saved me from perpetual boredom. 2020 was spent going to work and scrolling through TikTok, where I ended up on #BookTok. As soon as I ended up on that side of TikTok I never left. #BookTok got me back into reading. Romance and Fantasy are my must-haves in any book I pick up. Enemies to Lovers is my top favorite trope but fake dating and grumpy /sunshine are also my favorites. I don't know how to choose just one. My Ideal bookshelf is a plethora of different types of books.
The Cruel Prince series by Holly Black got me hooked. I love the fantasy of the Fae in Faerie and the enemies-to-lovers vibes between Jude and Cardan. Jude was mentally and physically strong even with all the bad things that happened to her. It was inspiring to watch how much her character grew throughout the story. Cardan as well, became the kind of ruler he was destined to be rather than how he started at the beginning of the series being a mean person.
A Court of Thornes and Roses by Sarah J Maas was the next series I fell in love with. I was shocked by all the plot twists. I was not expecting everything about the character dynamics to change in the second book. I am just glad the bad guy wasn't who I thought he was. But Enemies to Lovers can have different levels of how much of an enemy the characters are. Even though both series had fae, they were unique. I read other fantasy books but those two series are my top must-haves on my bookshelf.
Fake Dating is another popular book trope on my ideal bookshelf. A lot of the fake dating books I read go with the grumpy/sunshine trope as well. For example, there is A Spanish Love Deception by Elena Armas, where Catalina is sunshine except for when she is around the grumpy Aaron until they fall in love after pretending to date for her sister's wedding. Or the Love Hypothesis by Ali Hazelwood where Olive is a PhD Candidate who is Fake dating Adam a Professor because her best friend doesn't believe that she is ok with said friend dating her ex whom she was not that into. But I could go on and on about these books but I do not want to spoil anything if they have not been read.
There are so many different books from #Booktok that I have read. It is hard to make an ideal bookshelf. If I had it my way I would own every single book that sounds even remotely interesting. The books I mentioned are only a small amount of what I consider must-haves. They have impacted my daily life. Even if I am not reading a book, I am doing something that has to do with books or reading. Without #Booktok I never would have gotten back into reading.
