Bold PointsBio
Hello I am Madelyn Arianna Johnston. A 20 year old girl from Chicago with big dreams. I am currently in the process of transferring schools since I am currently in community college to save money. I currently work part time at a Chevy dealership in Chicago and live with my father and older sister who has Asperger syndrome. As for my goals in life all I know is that I want a job where I feel happy to wake up and work everyday. A few of my interests include business, particularly marketing and computer science, primarily web design or UX or UI design. When I graduate college I hope to land a job in one of these fields with enough stability to finally move away from home and start my life in a new state. Particularly somewhere warm since the Chicago winters can be harsh. Whatever career path I choose I hope to have enough finances to help my father retire and to help take care of my autistic sister since she is incapable of having a job of her own. As for my accomplishments I have always been a remarkable student who puts her heart and soul inter her work. I have two web design certifications which I received in high school and I have over a years worth of work experience as a cashier. With these big goals in mind and considering how expensive it is to live on your own and pay for college I could really use some financial help to help bear the financial burden of college tuition since my dad and I have limited finances. I hope whomever reads this gets a better picture of who I am and considers me.

Bold Friendship Matters Scholarship
Friendship is something that is very important to me. I grew up with no family members my age other than my older sister so I was always lonely at home since my sister was older and didn't want to hang out with me. Due to our age difference I looked elsewhere for companionship and made a few friends at school. Friends are very important to me and always will be for many reasons.
To me friends are like extended family members. Friends are people who are there for each other, someone to laugh with, have a good time with, and who are always there when things get tough. A friend is someone you can be yourself with and who will love you for you. To me friendship is all about loyalty, love and trust. I am an honest person and I am always honest with whomever I decide to become friends with. I let them in and see the vulnerable sides of me. I want my friends to be loyal and be by my side and be kind to me and stick up for me when I need it and I'll do the same for them. I want friends I can trust with my secrets and desires and not be judged for them. Friendship is my world, its a companion who makes you feel happy and be free.
Friendship is the second greatest thing on Earth below family because friendship is a beautiful platonic connection between two or more people who love each other and will always be right by your side.
Lillian's & Ruby's Way Scholarship
Choosing a college major is once of the hardest decisions many young adults face. I myself was confused about what I wanted to become in the future, but after months of brainstorming potential majors I decided on marketing. Marketing is a field where the goal is to promote a business's product or services in order to sell more units. In marketing there is no one size fits all solution. There are many different marketing approaches and tactics which allow for creative input. This is exactly why I chose to pursue a career in marketing. I want to be able to use my creativity and learn about the ins and outs of marketing in business.
I realized I was interested in marketing in my junior year of high school due to a class project. My favorite class was web design because I was allowed to be creative and design the website however I wanted with few limitations. This made me realize that I like the ability to be creative in my work and to design things. However my interest in marketing specifically became apparent in this class when we had to create an app for the CME group, to get more on their website traffic from high school students. During this process we had to create a plan to market our app to the CME group which I fell in love with. I loved the idea of brainstorming ideas, being creative and learning how to persuade others. Due to this assignment iit became apparent that the freedom to be creative and to learn about how to market a product and a business is something I want to be a part of.
Once I decided which major I wanted I had to decide how I am going to use this major in my career. As of this moment I have a few ideas of potential careers that involve marketing that I am interested in. Those are to be a social media manager or a potential business owner. Being a social media manager will allow me to use my creativity and persuasive skills to manage a business's social media account. With this career I could potentially open my own business and work from home which will allow me to travel the world. Since marketing is so diverse I know I will be able to find a career that I love.
Bold Confidence Matters Scholarship
Confidence. A term used to describe someone who is comfortable within their own skin. A term that due to social media confidence has escaped from the hands of many men and women. Being confident is both hard and easy. However it has never been that easy for me in most areas.
Growing up I was the overweight girl who everyone picked on and said was pregnant due to my large belly. I hated my weight growing up and it made me less confident in myself. It wasn't until the MeToo movement started that I realized that I am beautiful no matter how much I weigh. To me confidence is all about mindset. I learned that from my therapist in my sophomore year of high school when I was seeking help mange my social anxiety and depression. I believe that if you change your mindset and believe that you are confidant then that fake confidence will turn into real confidence down the road. To be confidant in this day in age you need to not compare yourself to others because if you do you're just setting yourself up to feel bad about parts of yourself. You are you and you are perfect. To be confidant you need to remember that and remember that you don't need to change anything about yourself no matter what society says.
I believe that everyone can be confidant and I myself need to work on being more confident myself. My plan for this year as I transfer schools is to learn more about me, who I am, what I like and work on personal growth in multiple areas. Those areas being my mental health, physical health and social life. I believe with my determination and gradual small changes in my life, I can become more confidant.
