Bio

I'm Madeline Mora, a high school senior with big dreams in the business world. I started my own slime business at 9 and have been the marketing director for a non-profit for 5 years. Now, I'm excited to major in Business/Economics in college. I'm all about creativity, whether it's in dance, storytelling, or making vegan dishes inspired by my family. In the next 20 years, I want to open a restaurant showcasing the amazing vegan Mexican dishes my mom makes. Scholarships mean a lot to me. They're not just about money; they're recognition of how hard I've worked. Being a Latina, first-generation college student, and the third of three daughters going for a college degree, I'm proud to represent my family. College is my chance to shine in the business world while sharing my passions. I want to make a mark and bring a taste of our traditions to everyone. It's not just about me; it's about uplifting my community and making my family proud.

For over a decade, I've had the privilege of collaborating with my mother on her passion project, "Regalando Una Sonrisa" (Gifting a Smile), located in Sinaloa, Mexico. Our objective is to help needy families, particularly those striving to provide basic necessities for their children. During the December holiday season, we focus on a toy drive to bring joy to children who face economic hardships and grow up too rapidly. In the early years, when I was just a 7-year-old, I played the role of my mother's "little secretary," engaging with people at events to encourage them to donate. As I grew older, my involvement expanded. I started helping with activities like face painting, candy distribution, and ensuring that each child received a gift that they got to choose. My role evolved even more as I grew older. Today, I collaborate closely with my mother in arranging, coordinating, and photographing these events. I picture every child holding their toy with a bright smile on their face, and these photos testify to the joy we've brought into their life. Our community's impact is undeniable. By posting these beautiful images on social media, we demonstrate to our kind contributors that their contributions are making a real impact on the lives of these children. This mission began in my mother’s heart and has evolved into a family passion. It is really sad to see the differences in upbringings. As a fortunate child in the United States with resources and possibilities that others can only dream of, such as my own room, reliable meals, and education, and as a citizen of the country with boundless support systems. While the kids we help may not share my lifestyle, I acknowledge their unique challenges. Bringing joy through a simple toy or shared holiday experience is meaningful. It's not just about material objects but valuing the worth of each individual, bridging our differences, and giving the children the opportunity to select their own brand toys. Witnessing their happiness shows our shared humanity, making our toy drive efforts truly valuable. My experiences growing up have instilled in me a profound sense of empathy. As I envision my college journey, I aspire to continue my mother's legacy. With each passing year, as she gracefully ages, I hope to have a more significant role in "Regalando Una Sonrisa," eventually taking over to ensure the continuity of this impactful initiative. In college, my goal is to actively participate in clubs and drives similar to "Regalando Una Sonrisa." I want to bring a piece of my homegrown passion to campus, motivating fellow students to join me in making a difference. By engaging in similar community service activities, I aim to not only uphold the values instilled in me but also inspire others to contribute to causes that bring smiles and hope to those in need. Through my college journey and beyond, I see myself not just as a beneficiary of kindness but as a catalyst for positive change, carrying forward the mission of "Regalando Una Sonrisa" and extending its impact to new horizons. My goal is to foster a community of empathy and shared humanity, making my college experience a continuation of the meaningful work that has shaped my life.
