American Dream Scholarship
Many people believe that the American dream is based on what type of money you have, how much money you have, or what level of study you have. To me, the American dream is to have an abundance of opportunities, something I, an undocumented student, do not have. Everywhere I look for scholarships, there is one thing that stops me: being a citizen.
The American dream is real but for many, it isn't achievable. With this scholarship, I would be able to put the money towards my schooling which would be a pretty big achievement for me and my family. In my family I would be the first generation that would have the opportunity to go to college, I want to make that true for not only myself but to also give my family a better life. This scholarship would be an incentive to show me that I can be someone in this world where people with my status can't be. I'd be able to classify myself as more than my status because I'd be able to put myself through better schooling. Through the chance this scholarship would give me I would be able to take some financial worries off my mom's back.
While we are talking about my mom I can tell you she is a big inspiration for me. Her whole life, coming to this country, she has given up everything for us to be able to have better opportunities than she ever had. All she has wanted for us has been to achieve the American dream, as well as wishing that for herself. She is the head of the household and takes care of all of my siblings and my expenses as well as my grandmother's, on top of that she is a single mother of 3. So yes, if you were to ask me who I look up to, it'd be her. She has built a life for all of us on her own, and though she hasn't been able to reach the American dream for herself, I want to be able to achieve that for her.
Putting myself through college is the first step in doing so. Being able to give my whole family and take pressure off my mom's hands would be everything I've wanted in life. So to me, the american dream is the abundance of opportunities and with this scholarship, I'd be able to make that possible for everyone in my life, including myself.
