Both of my parents have degrees in music education, and so will I, in about 2 weeks. I am a French horn player that has been around music my entire life. It was never a question of "if" I involved myself in music, but more so "when" and "where" I will involve myself. I started out in band and orchestra in middle school, playing the violin and oboe, but when I got to high school I switched to French horn, to which I have been playing for 7-8 years. I participated in both marching band and concert band in high school. My brother plays the trombone, my mom plays the flute, and my dad plays the clarinet. Being in a family that focused so heavily on music, getting degrees in music seemed like the obvious choice. My sophomore year of university, I was a band librarian. By the end of my sophomore year, I was the head librarian and that next semester I was training new librarians. I quickly grew to love the job. It was only in my spring semester of my sophomore year that I learned that music/ensemble librarianship was a career I could potentially pursue. For me, this opened a whole new realm of possibilities. I had loved the organization and intricacies of ensemble librarianship and to learn this was something I could make a career out of inspired me to look into graduate programs. I had spoken with professors who advised me to look into Master of Library and Information Science and Master of Music graduate programs. Continuing with music was a must, and so a dual-degree program seemed like the perfect fit. I applied to several programs, and eventually accepted a position at the University of Maryland, College Park. Its proximity to the Capitol, Library of Congress, United States Military Bands, and Kennedy Center is perfect for my future career goals. I will be graduating from Stetson University with a Bachelor of Music Education on May 10, 2025, exactly two weeks from my application of this. I plan to start at the University of Maryland in Fall 2025 for programs, a Master of Library and Information Science and a Master of Music in Horn Performance. With these degrees, I would like to work with a symphony orchestra or perhaps a performing arts library, curating collections and archiving materials. For me, this is the absolute dream career, and I could not imagine doing anything else.
