My name is Maddox Link. I want to become a world traveler, a real estate agent, a writer, and a nurse anesthetist all within my life. My goal is to pursue my dream career without having student debt. I'm gonna do my best to approach this next phase in life courageously, but with compassion. I keep my motivation to do my best in all that I do by encouraging myself and others with hope. I find the motivation to get straight A's and participate in groups including Honors Society and Sources of Strength. I take dual credit and AP courses on top of high school. I love to write, play piano, hike, grow plants, and spend time with my family. I am ambitious in every aspect of my life and I strive to be bold. I have type 1 diabetes, but I won't let that stop me from reaching my full potential in life. To me, money is a tool, and time is the real treasure.

    Elevate Mental Health Awareness Scholarship
    Mental health is significant to not just what we do but who we are. How we identify ourselves and how other people identify us is largely due to our mental health. It is our make it or break it characteristic that separates our mindsets. The overachievers and success stories we hear of is likely the people that approached life with a growth mindset. People with a growth mindset aim to learn from any and every situation they go through, through failure and success. They don't look to win in the short but grow as a whole. Their goal is to develop themselves, which is the right path to take to live what's identified with a successful life. Mental health plays into this idea, by being the foundation on which we grow upon. As one of my favorite spokesmen once said, "if the enemy inside is in check, then the enemy outside can do us no harm. And that's how you win." Mental health is how our motivation is doing. Our passion and motivation are what will drive us through life, but a lack of mental health is what creates less motivation. That's why the number 1 leading reason for suicide is ultimately due to some form of mental health, usually a lack of motivation to continue forth. I would urge anyone to find motivation in everything that they do, else they would not develop a growth mindset in that area of their life. Something I hear on a day-to-day basis is how much school sucks and how time-consuming it is and how useless it is. People that say these things are the people that are not taking advantage of the information given to them for free. They are the ones that aren't growing because they don't have a growth mindset. Life will give to you, not just what you put into it, but what you make of it. Mental health is the factor of you're mindset which will guide you in life, rather to growth, or to a fixed state of life where nothing is growing, especially the good things. Approaching things, everything and everyone with a mindset to learn is what good mental health looks like. Everything in this world would be fixed; no violence, no hate, and no evil; if everyone left every situation thinking how they could improve themselves. If they left a fight, they would ask themselves how could I have done better? In this way, they grow. Next time they get into an argument they wouldn't backlash but instead, use kindness. Mental health is not only are motivation to have a growth mindset but also a factor that gives us self-control in our actions and habits. If someone gets mad easily and blames other people but not him/herself, there is a lack of self-control. A lack of mental health. A lack of motivation in their life and a lack of consistency, which is the factor that plays into success just as much as mental health does. This is all connected, which means the small decisions you make every day plays into your identity. Mental health gives us the ability to decide who we are and have motivation for what we do. People continue to say it doesn't matter, but put into perspective, nothing would matter without motivation, without mental health. Personally, I developed a growth mindset out of the Covid 19 outbreak in 2020, when I was coming out of my sophomore year in high school. I realized that we were here to live, and how much free will we get out of our mental health. I studied ways of developing mental health, and the number one result was to pursue things you enjoy doing daily. I found out I had a love for hiking, writing, encouraging, playing piano, and helping people through the medical field. Out of that passion, came the motivation and mental health to get better and better myself. I found motivation in my hobbies and then found motivation in every aspect of life. Immediately, results showed. The novel I wrote over 100,000 words long, got a National Novel Writing Month Award. I was invited to the Congress of Future Medical Leaders to receive an award of excellence. My motivation inspired itself in my academics as well. I got a 4.0 both semesters my junior year and aim for that goal my senior year as well. I joined organizations like Sources of Strength and Honors Society to develop myself more and volunteer my time for community service and school development. I plan on pursuing my career with this motivation as well and to succeed in every aspect of life. I've been reading a lot, and going to the gym, and putting time into healthy new hobbies to develop myself and my creative mind. My success and success to come originates from my mental health which I CHOSE to develop because I realized its significance in my life. Now I want to spread this message with others in everything I do, say, and think.
    Bold Self-Care Scholarship
    Naturally, self-care is significant to not just our mental health but for spiritual and physical health. I practise self care in everything I do, as my belief is that our reason to live is to grow. I mainly do this by approaching everything with a growth mindset. I ask myself what can I learn from this with intentions to grow. I use this technique during my mistakes, tragedidies, my successes, and in the middle of my struggles, which I find helps. It helps me stay positive and focused on developing myself. I make myself happier by engaging in activities daily I find fun. On a day to day basis, I love to write, so I do that in the mornings along with piano. In the afternoon I might go for a walk, or hiking, or to the gym. Then I would spend time with my family. Practising self care is extremely important and through engaging in my passions and approaching any situations with a growth mindset is how I overcome adversity. In return, development is the impact in has on my life. A healthy balance of hope and peace.
    Bold Loving Others Scholarship
    It's important for people you love to feel loved. If you care about them, you should show them affection from time to time. I notice people have different ways of feeling loved, typically referred to as love language. I take the time time to understand how each of my family members and friends feels loved. Some common characteristics of certain love languages include giving gifts, verbal compliments, quality time, and acts of service. I have to understand how they want to be shown love before I can love them. To make my friends, family, and other people in my life feel loved, I show them acts of kindness, not out of giving to get the mindset, but a generous humble standing, or else they won't think your affection is legitimate. I have 3 younger siblings, 2 grandparents, and my parents I live with in the same household. I spend time with those that feel affection through quality time. I play board games, play outside, or inside games with them while being kind. I compliment and do favors for those that feel affection in acts of service. I give bigger gifts during birthdays and holidays to the people that seek affection in receiving gifts. The overall best way for them to feel loved is to tell simply tell them that fact, so I remind them each day to express my care.
    Bold Joy Scholarship
    The pursuit of happiness among other things is the meaning of human life. To have joy and hope in your life is the only way you'd feel fulfilled and determined. My motivation comes from my happiness. To me, joy means to be optimistic, treat others with kindness, and live life feeling free. In my life, I seek joy naturally by doing the things that I love to do. I pursue my passions and hobbies daily including writing, playing piano, growing plants, and spending time with my family. Another way of seeking joy in my life is how I face all problems with a growth mindset and with optimism to develop myself. Life is meaningless if we don't have the mindset to grow. I seek out joy in my life also by giving to others, which is very wholesome to me. I volunteer in many aspects of my life. I participate in Honors society where we do community service and local acts of kindness to those in need. I volunteer service to my church. I do things for my neighbors. Giving is part of human nature and to reject it is to reject an attribute of joy. This is how I see the joy in my life. I find dreams and motivations to keep me going.
    Bold Perseverance Scholarship
    I've lived through a lot of difficult situations including becoming diagnosed with type 1 diabetes, moving as a young kid to several different towns in several different states dozens of times, and enduring the death of loved ones. However, a time I had to persevere through a difficult situation that stood out to me was during my sophomore year of high school. I didn't have many friends, wasn't even close to popular. I currently lived in California. A couple of years before that I lived in Pennsylvania, so I was still adjusting. I ended up making one best friend. We were very close. We went to movies, had sleepovers with other friends together, hiked around lakes and hills, and did several other things best friends would do. I also spent time developing my passion, writing. During this period I was writing my first large-scale novel. My friend was bipolar among other things due to his hard life at home. I was there for him, comforted him, however, I also wanted time to make my book. One lunch, I told him I was gonna write in the library instead of eating lunch with him and his group of cross country friends. He got angry, decided to hack into my computer and delete my book later that day. I went on the computer to see that it was gone and his iPhone was signed into my account. I was heartbroken, but after managing to recover the book by talking to the school system director, I continued writing that story. It's now well over 100,000+ words and won a National Novel Writing Month Award by my school. It cut me deep, as he knew how much writing meant to me, but I didn't let it stop me from pursuing what I loved most.
    Bold Books Scholarship
    I read a variety of books including romance, science fiction, lifestyle philosophy, mentality, business, and finances. I've read and kept track of the most inspirational books to me. These books include The Millionaire Next Door which taught me to be humble, the Habit, which taught me that through small acts of self-control, we become self-disciplined, Where the Red Fern Grows, which showed me the value of nature and the connection between man and his dog(s), and Of Mice and Men, which showed me the value of hope and friendship. I read almost every day, whether it is something inspirational or a book I got into. Reading is so important to me, as we can learn a lot from other people's experiences or they're written out testimonies of wisdom and creativity. I myself write. I've written a book called Escaping Loneliness which takes place in a future time where the earth was bombed, and a young lad survives in the forest alone gifted with his enhanced genetics, but everyone else is gone. The book I've written gives me motivation when I feel lonely, and therefore I think it impacts me the most. It inspires me the most. It's a personal book that not very many people have read, however, it's over 100,000+ words and I'm proud of every one of them. It speaks to messages about who I am and who I want to be through the mentality the main character goes through and what he does when faced with problems. I am inspired by the book Escaping loneliness because it gives me hope.
    Bold Longevity Scholarship
    For me, I believe in having self-control. The key to living a long successful life is to have consistent discipline. In order to have consistent discipline, you need to learn self-discipline. To have self-discipline you need self-control. To learn self-control you need to control your day. To control your day, you need to control your morning. The way I live a long, healthy life is by having a morning routine, in which I control my day, learn self-control, and develop self-discipline which leads to a long successful life. In my morning routine, I do simple things like brush my teeth, drink a cup of coffee, and eat breakfast. Unlike some people, I also, have a skincare routine, I eat a healthy breakfast, I spend time thinking, I write, I play piano, and I stretch. I do this every morning, consistently, and since I've begun, I've noticed results. I've felt more motivated and awake in the morning, which led me to be more energetic and excited during the day. I believe my physical health is in a lot of ways connected to my mental, emotional, and spiritual health. When I feel more happy, motivated, and at peace, It affects my physical health. I believe the best way to live a long, healthy life is to have a developed, disciplined morning routine. This creates a ripple effect because by becoming more disciplined, we are in return happier with a more organized life. Which leads to less stress and more joy, which is the goal of living, joy. This gives me a longer, healthy life which is so important not just for the normal person, but especially for me, a type 1 diabetic. Having a well-developed, disciplined healthy morning routine is how I plan to live a long healthy life.

    Acts of community service and volunteering, personally, are very significant attributes to what creates someone's character. My community service includes cleaning up trash along highways, participating in school community service day, handing out food to the less fortunate through Nineveh Outreach, being a church leader volunteer for children's ministries, volunteering for numerous school fundraisers including carnivals, food stands, and plant sells. Aside from putting my best foot forward in my contribution to the community, I can affect positive change in my community by simply showing kindness to people in my everyday life. I believe in showing everyone, even enemies, kindness. A simple fact is that life would be an amazing existence if everyone focused on what they could do better instead of focusing on what others can do better. I positively affect my community by showing what it means to have this mentality. I'm constantly showing kindness to others in all that I do and adopting a growth mentality.

    Personally, I love nature, who doesn't? I put into practice actions that have a good impact on the climate and environment by recycling, supporting anti-air toxication organizations, and picking up trash, and helping the community any way I can. I volunteer my time for my community when given the opportunity. Recently I picked up trash along the highway with my church. I've also participated in growing plants. I won a Certificate of Leadership for raising 100's of dollars for my school by growing plants and selling them during a plant sale. I still grow plants to sell them, mainly succulents, because it's one of my passions to increase the level of oxygen on earth. 100's of humans are born every day, and as the human population rises, the plant population decreases. I protect my climate by growing plants, picking up trash, and recycling. In the future, I want to donate my time and skill to research this topic.
    Bold Turnaround Story Scholarship
    In my freshmen and sophomore year of high school, my life was average. I was an average student with average grades with average character. The summer before my junior year started, my family moved to Idaho where I fell in love with a school in Spirit lake and found motivation in myself. Even with financial struggles and type 1 diabetes, I convinced myself it wasn't an excuse. This turnaround story in my life was mainly shown in my academics but it was so much more for me. My character improved, and I started to pursue my passions daily, working on myself. I wanted to be better. In my junior year, I made many accomplishments with motivation and a better environment to grow. I got straight A's in every class both semesters. I got the highest grade ever on the com101 final. I got Student of the month. I was nominated for Sources of Strength and The National Society of High School Scholars. I was nominated for the Congress of Future Medical Leaders Award of Excellence and received an Award of leadership for raising 100's of dollars for my school through a plant sale. I started working out at our local gym weekly. I pursued my passions including writing. I wrote a 100,000+ word novel and got a National Novel Writing Month Award from my school. I've taught myself the piano which I play daily. I grow plants at home and grow succulents as a side business to sell during the spring. For me, my motivation is what inspired me to try hard every day. This year, I'm getting straight A's in extra college courses on top of high school and was also nominated for Honors Society. I'm proud of my choice to turn my life around by finding my motivation.
    Environmental Impact Scholarship
    Our world is limited, materials are limited, resources finite, and I want to be the one who helps solve the problem of transition from limited fossil fuels to a reusable energy force. Our society rotates around energy and I want to conserve it more effectively providing an infinite supply with unlimited potential to the public through advanced thermal solar panels, clean practice in nuclear power plants, and non-intoxicating hydrolic power farms. Elon Musk is a personal motivator of mine, as he has established an affordable more reliant electric car, however, even the materials he uses to make and replace the batteries are limited. We need ways to work around our needs. Instead of constantly consuming, we should be creating something out of nothing, or something we can account to have an infinite amount of like the sun's thermal solar energy. I want to leave a legacy that lasts by providing forests with life, instead of consumption to make products. I personally grow plants as a side business. I grow succulents including echeveria, jade plants, zebra plants, sedum, hen and chicks plant, and numerous others. I also grow other sorts of things including elephant year plants and spider plants. I believe our answer to where we can find a truly infinite amount of energy is found within our natural cycle of energy. Within nature, energy is a constant cycle that supports everything in life constantly rotating around life and death. The energy doesn't fade, it's manipulated and moved around. We should try our best to mimic this effect instead of constant consumption. My motivation to tackle this problem also originates around my want to provide for the future generation and leave an impact when I leave this earth. People don't realize that we live on this beautiful planet that can be a wonderful existence. One of my favorite quotes from another one of my motivations is from Stan Lee. He was asked if he could change anything about our world what would he change. He responded beautifully, "I'd make people stop hating each other for a dumb reason." I want to tackle the problem of energy conservation for the sake of our future and to cause less hate in the world by eliminating controversial topics and giving people something to be thankful for. I plan to do this by simple acts of humility including picking up trash along highways with my church, volunteering in my community as I do in Honors society, and spreading optimism as we do in Sources of Strength. In the future, I want to truly make an impact by diving into research don't his topic, giving ideas and incentives, and motives for the scientists behind the problem. I want to provide funding by creating businesses that aid the environment and energy conservation philosophy. I'll have to approach it one small step at a time, but with the determination to do so patiently in my life.
    Bold Friendship Matters Scholarship
    Friendship means everything to me. I've gone through struggles in my life with making friends. I've always felt left out. I've moved over a dozen times in my life. I've switched schools over a half dozen times. I've lived in three different states within a period of 5 years, a dozen different cities and towns. I've made friends and lost them. For a long period of my life, I was alone. Friendship is what encourages me on a day-to-day basis today. It's my motivation to keep trying. One of my greatest fears is that I'll end up alone. One of the essential needs in human emotional nature is belongingness. Several philosophers have written about how important it is to feel belongingness including Emerson, John Locke, and Socrates. All varying people from different areas at different times. I've written about it as well, expressed in one of my passions. I love to write and I wrote a 100,000+ word novel called Escaping Loneliness which ended up winning a National Novel Reading Month Award by my school. I do a lot of school activities that help me make friends including Sources of Strength and Honors Society. I'm also part of the National Society of High School Scholars. Through these extra circular activities, I make friends and learn to encourage them or just learn to help out in the community. I also learn how to put my best foot forward in everything that I do. To me, friendship is everything because what would life be without anyone to share it with. I want to show the importance of friendship with the world. I want to make more friends, close friends, who understand who I am and accept me for that. Friendship means being there for your friend through all circumstances in life.

    A song that most inspires me is "Hall of Fame" by the Script. This song gives me a ton of motivation whether it be when I'm working out, when I'm studying, or when I'm hiking. I absolutely love this song's message which evolves around encouraging people to stay motivated and how one day you'll be great. One day you'll reach your potential. One day people will see who you are. One day, they admire your talent, your skills, and your work ethic. That one day gives me my motivation because my one day can't come if I give up today. That's what this song means to me and so many others. I love writing about its message and playing the song itself on piano, which is one of my favorite songs to play (especially the intro). Honestly, this song and a couple of others gave me motivation through my hard times of emotional and financial struggles. The song "Hall of Fame" by the script inspires me for my tomorrow by encouraging me to never give up. Even through my struggles and other people struggles, we can overcome and show the world who we are.

    When I think of what motivates me, I think of what inspires me. What's that thing in the back of my head that keeps me going, motivating me to do my best. It's my passion and my excitement for my future. I love the thought of going to college to become a nurse anesthetist and a writer. I love the thought of becoming part of society's contribution. I want to do my part in our world and I want to do better than anyone thinks I could. My family is also my big motivation, even through financial struggles, they encourage me to do my best. So with my motivation, I get straight A's and participate with groups encouraging motivation like Sources of Strength and Honors Society. I want to share motivation with others, and let them feel excited and encouraged for their future too. I want to show my creativity and inspiration to the world.
