I plan to make a positive impact on the world by becoming a Physical Therapist and helping people become as independent as possible. Through a hospital volunteer program, I realized the impact a physical therapist can make on someone’s life. I witnessed many patients whose worlds were completely flipped upside down due to tragic car accidents, early unexpected strokes, and other life-changing events. I met patients with many different injuries, but one thing remained the name for every patient, the need for someone to care. I want to be a light and an encouragement for patients to keep going, even when it’s hard. To become a Physical Therapist, I plan to obtain a bachelor’s degree in Kinesiology before applying to a PT program. Throughout college, I anticipate facing challenges with time management. I hope to work at a PT tech in a hospital while balancing school and clinical hours, which means I will be very busy. I plan to handle this by maintaining a healthy lifestyle balance, staying organized, and prioritizing my responsibilities. My biggest passion is serving others, as that is a key aspect of my faith, which is most important to me. I hope to be a light in dark times for others and serve them in any areas they may need. I discovered my love for serving on the very first day of a summer hospital volunteer program, and I have loved it ever since. From volunteering a couple of years ago in a hospital to volunteering at an outpatient clinic this year, that passion has remained the same. My favorite event I ever volunteered at was an adaptive surfing day hosted by Brooks Rehabilitation. The event allowed people who once loved surfing but were physically unable to do so on their own to participate in something they once loved. The joy every single person expressed made it all worth it. Some participants even said it was the best day they had experienced in a long time. I also have a passion for serving in my church. I was blessed with the opportunity to serve on a leadership team for my youth group, where I helped plan events and photograph different gatherings. I was also able to help teach the kindergarten class. Apart from serving, I have a passion for running. I have participated in many 5k races and aspire to one day run the Boston Marathon. I love running because it teaches me to push through hard things, even when I do not always want to. It holds me accountable and strengthens my perseverance.
