My family’s story reflects resilience, perseverance, and the blending of cultures across generations. My Indian heritage comes through my biological father’s family. Our roots trace back to India, with later generations migrating through other countries and eventually settling in Trinidad and Tobago. Although personal family circumstances have limited my connection with that side of my family, I take great pride in my Indian ancestry and the diverse heritage that has shaped my identity. Growing up with this multicultural background has taught me to embrace different perspectives, value my roots, and appreciate the strength that comes from overcoming adversity. The values that have influenced me most came from my grandparents. While neither had the opportunity to attend college, they possessed something equally valuable: an unwavering work ethic. They taught me that success is earned through discipline, persistence, and integrity rather than circumstance. Watching them work tirelessly to provide for their family inspired me to pursue opportunities they never had and to recognize that education is one of the most powerful tools for creating generational change. Today, I am pursuing my master’s degree at Seton Hall University while also beginning trade school. Some may see these as two separate paths, but I see them as complementary. My graduate education is preparing me to think strategically and lead, while trade school is equipping me with practical skills that provide stability and independence. Together, they represent my commitment to becoming a well-rounded professional who is prepared to adapt, solve problems, and create opportunities in an ever-changing world. The greatest obstacle I currently face is financial. After earning my bachelor’s degree, changes to my financial aid left me responsible for covering much of the cost of my graduate education. Since then, I have worked tirelessly to secure scholarships and student loans while balancing my academic responsibilities. The uncertainty has been stressful, but it has never weakened my determination. Instead, it has strengthened my belief that perseverance is often the difference between giving up and achieving your dreams. Receiving this scholarship would provide more than financial assistance—it would provide the opportunity to complete my education with confidence and continue building the future I have worked so hard to create. My goal extends beyond earning degrees. I aspire to use my education, professional skills, and life experiences to uplift my family, mentor others, and demonstrate that resilience, hard work, and faith can transform obstacles into opportunities. I hope my journey encourages others to believe that where you begin does not determine where you are capable of going.

Being a first-generation college student means breaking barriers that no one in my family has broken before. It means facing uncertainty, choosing faith over fear, and believing that every sacrifice I make today will create opportunities for generations after me. My journey has been challenging, but it has also become one of my greatest blessings. As a Black, gay woman, I have learned that success often requires resilience. Last year, I proudly earned my bachelor’s degree, and today I am in my master’s program. The classes are challenging, but the greatest obstacle has been paying for my education. After the government stopped providing financial aid, I found myself constantly searching for ways to continue receiving it. I’ve applied for student loans, faced rejection, and worried about how I would afford to finish. Even on the hardest days, I tell myself, “Don’t quit.” I keep applying, keep believing, and keep pushing forward because I know my education is worth fighting for. I have also taken another step toward my future by enrolling in trade school. I want to become skilled in a profession that provides stability while proving that women, especially women of color, belong in every industry—including the skilled trades. I want to challenge stereotypes, become self-sufficient, and show young girls in my community that they never have to limit themselves. I hope to use everything I learn to teach my family and community skills that previous generations may not have had the opportunity to learn. Receiving this scholarship would help relieve the financial burden of completing my master’s degree, allowing me to stay focused on graduating in May 2027. More importantly, it would be an investment in someone who refuses to give up despite financial hardship. My dream is not only to build a successful career but also to become a role model who proves that determination, education, and faith can overcome any obstacle. Being first-generation isn’t just about earning a degree—it’s about creating a legacy. I want to be the person who opens doors for others and inspires the next generation to believe that no dream is too big when you’re willing to work for it.

Education has been one of the most defining forces in my life, shaping not only my goals but also the direction and purpose behind everything I strive to achieve. From an early age, I understood that education was more than textbooks and classrooms. It was a gateway to opportunity, growth, and transformation. It provided me with structure, discipline, and a sense of hope that empowered me to imagine a future bigger than my circumstances. Education helped me recognize that my dreams were not only possible but achievable through dedication, resilience, and faith. Throughout my academic journey, I have encountered challenges that tested my determination and required me to develop an unshakeable belief in my ability to succeed. One of the most significant challenges I have faced is balancing the realities of life with the demands of school. Working at UPS while pursuing my degree has required early mornings, late nights, and moments of profound exhaustion. Yet, this experience has strengthened me in ways I never expected. It taught me the value of time management, responsibility, and perseverance. It reminded me that working hard for what I want makes the reward even more meaningful. Another challenge I have faced is staying focused despite personal, emotional, and financial obstacles. There were moments when I worried whether I could afford school or whether life’s responsibilities would force me to step back from my education. But each time I felt discouraged, I reminded myself why I started. My desire to grow spiritually with God and Jesus kept me grounded and reminded me that my journey has purpose. My passion for basketball taught me to push through adversity, stay disciplined, and keep moving forward even when the odds seem stacked against me. And my dream of building a successful career while inspiring others fueled my commitment to continue. Education has not only given me knowledge but also shaped my identity. It has taught me how to think critically, communicate effectively, and adapt to new challenges with confidence. My bachelor’s degree helped me discover my love for creativity, leadership, and innovation. It opened doors for me to understand the world through multiple perspectives and to see myself as someone capable of contributing meaningfully to society. Now that I am pursuing my master’s degree, I am expanding those foundations. I am learning how to use my voice, skills, and experiences to build a future that aligns with my long-term goals. One of my goals is to work within the WNBA or NBA, contributing to organizations that have inspired me throughout my athletic journey. Basketball has shaped me in powerful ways. It taught me patience, teamwork, and how to push past limits—lessons that continue to guide me academically and professionally. Even though I may still pursue opportunities to play overseas, my ultimate purpose is to work within the sport, help build the next generation of athletes, and be a part of something larger than myself. Education has given me the tools to understand not only the athletic side of sports, but the business, leadership, and operational aspects that make these organizations thrive. Traveling and experiencing different cultures is another dream I hope to accomplish. Education has broadened my understanding of the world and helped me appreciate the importance of global connections. I want to use my degree to open doors to international opportunities, whether through sports, leadership, or community-based programs. By traveling, I hope to learn from others, build meaningful relationships, and bring those lessons back to my community, uplifting and inspiring people who may feel limited by their environment or circumstances. The challenges I have overcome have prepared me to handle the responsibilities and expectations that come with success. I have learned that setbacks do not define me; they strengthen me. I have learned that faith and perseverance work hand in hand. I have learned that even when life feels overwhelming, there is always a path forward if I remain disciplined, focused, and open to learning. I want to use my education to create a better future, not only for myself but for others who may be watching my journey. I hope to inspire young people—especially young women—that their dreams are valid and achievable. I want them to know that even when life becomes challenging, they can rise above circumstances through hard work, faith, and dedication. I want to serve as an example of what it looks like to chase success while staying true to who you are, your passions, and your values. In the future, I envision myself helping mentor young athletes, supporting community programs, and using my platform to advocate for opportunities in sports, education, and personal development. I also hope to bring awareness to the importance of mental and physical wellness, especially for students and athletes who often carry heavy expectations and pressure. My goal is to encourage others to pursue their goals fearlessly, understand the power of education, and believe in their potential even when others doubt it. Scholarships play a critical role in my ability to continue this path. While I am proud to support myself through my work at UPS, the financial burden of higher education can be overwhelming. Receiving scholarship support would allow me to focus more deeply on my studies, reduce financial stress, and continue building the foundation I need for my future. It would be an investment not only in my education but in my purpose, my goals, and the positive impact I aim to make. Education has shaped my sense of direction by giving me clarity, confidence, and purpose. It taught me that my dreams are attainable through dedication and that challenges are growth opportunities. I am committed to using my degree, experiences, and passions to create a future where I can thrive, uplift others, and give back to the communities that have shaped me. I am excited for the journey ahead and grateful for the opportunity to continue building a life fueled by purpose, faith, ambition, and resilience.

As I approach the age of 21, I find myself reflecting deeply on the journey my family and I have taken. Life hasn’t always been easy, especially when it comes to my biological father and the hardships my mother endured. Growing up, I witnessed pain, confusion, and moments that no child should have to understand. But I also saw strength, perseverance, and healing. A few years after my biological father was no longer a part of our daily lives, my mother remarried. This time, it was to a man who truly loves and adores her in the ways she always deserved. Seeing my mother finally being treated with kindness and respect has been one of the most beautiful parts of my growing up. Her smile is more genuine now, and her spirit is lighter. She is no longer just surviving—she is thriving. Watching her transformation taught me that love should never hurt, and that real love brings peace, support, and joy. This personal experience profoundly shaped how I view relationships and the importance of breaking cycles of violence. I believe that education is one of the most powerful tools we have to reduce intimate partner violence. We can teach young people about the importance of self-respect, communication, boundaries, and consent through education. We can help both boys and girls understand what healthy love looks like and how to recognize the warning signs of abuse. People are more likely to make safe and respectful relationship choices when they are informed and empowered. Education also provides a way out. Many people stay in abusive situations because they feel trapped—financially, emotionally, or socially. However, when someone has access to education, they gain tools that can lead to independence. Whether it’s a college degree, a trade certification, or being educated on one’s rights and resources, learning can open doors that lead to freedom and healing. With my degree and personal life experiences, I plan to make a real difference in the lives of others. I want to use my platform—whether that be through athletics, business, or community service—to advocate for those affected by intimate partner violence and other forms of trauma. I hope to mentor youth, especially young women, who may be in similar situations my mother overcame. I want to let them know that they are not alone and that there is hope beyond their pain. I aim to create programs that combine mental health support, personal development, and education—resources I wish more families had access to. I want to use my story not for sympathy, but for change. By embracing my past and purpose, I know I can help others rise above their circumstances and build brighter futures. Ultimately, I believe we all have a calling to turn our pain into purpose. And I plan to do just that.

Being part of the Cherokee tribe has significantly shaped my life as a Native American. It has provided challenges and successes, strengthening my character and connection to my heritage. My experiences have shaped how I view the world, my values, and my approach to personal and professional goals. Growing up with Cherokee traditions, I learned the importance of community and respect for nature early on. Cherokee culture emphasizes the value of family, the sacredness of the land, and the wisdom passed down from our elders. These teachings have played a central role in navigating life, encouraging me to approach challenges with humility, gratitude, and understanding my interconnectedness with others and the environment. Participating in cultural events such as powwows has been a favorite experience. The dancing, drumming, and storytelling during these gatherings remind me of the strength and resilience of our people. They also emphasize the importance of unity and cultural preservation, which inspires me. However, navigating life as a Native American in a modern world has also presented challenges. One of the most difficult aspects has been balancing my cultural identity with the pressures of mainstream society. As much as I am proud of my heritage, I’ve encountered situations where I have had to educate others about Native American history, culture, and traditions. Stereotypes and misconceptions often make it hard for people to understand the depth and richness of Native culture fully. At times, I have felt misunderstood or even overlooked due to my background, which has required me to assert the importance of my identity continuously. Reconciling my Native roots with the demands of modern life has also been challenging. Being part of a fast-paced society often means that traditional practices, such as language and ceremony, can be overshadowed by the hustle of daily life. Despite this, I remain committed to preserving and sharing my culture. Whether by participating in community events, learning the Cherokee language, or advocating for Native rights, I’ve prioritized staying connected to my roots. Despite these challenges, I’ve also had numerous successes that have reinforced my pride and connection to my Native heritage. Through cultural celebrations, community involvement, and efforts to raise awareness about Native American issues, I’ve learned to embrace my identity more confidently. These experiences have helped me grow as an individual, offering me a unique perspective on resilience and community strength. They’ve motivated me to advocate for my people and ensure that Indigenous communities' challenges are recognized. In conclusion, my Native American heritage is a cornerstone of my identity. The lessons I’ve learned through challenges and successes continue to guide me in all areas of my life. By embracing my culture and traditions, I am honoring my ancestors and ensuring that their legacy endures for generations to come.

My experience with mental health has been a journey of growth, self-discovery, and resilience. At one point in my life, I suffered from depression, which felt like carrying an invisible weight that affected how I saw myself, others, and the world around me. While I’ve moved past that depression, I still experience moments of anxiety. However, I’ve learned to channel those feelings in positive ways, and my experiences have shaped not only my goals but also my relationships and how I understand the world. Basketball has played a significant role in my healing and growth. When I’m on the court, I feel free—like every shot, every dribble, and every hustle play allows me to release emotions that might otherwise feel overwhelming. Basketball became my therapy, a space where I could channel my energy, find focus, and rebuild confidence. It taught me that no matter what I’m going through, I have the power to turn struggles into motivation. The game showed me that setbacks, whether on the court or in life, are opportunities to grow stronger and more determined. Another turning point for me came from watching Inside Out and its sequel. The movies beautifully illustrated how emotions—joy, sadness, anger, fear, and others—work together to shape our experiences. They taught me that it’s okay to feel a range of emotions and that every feeling has a purpose. For a long time, I struggled with sadness and anxiety, thinking they were weaknesses, but those movies helped me see them differently. They showed me that emotions like sadness can lead to healing and connection, while anxiety can be a signal to prepare or be cautious. Learning to acknowledge and work with my emotions, instead of fighting against them, has been a game-changer. These lessons have deeply influenced my goals. I’ve realized that mental health is just as important as physical health, and I want to be a role model who shows others that it’s okay to prioritize both. My dreams of playing in the WNBA and overseas are driven not only by my love for basketball but also by my desire to inspire others who might be struggling. I want to prove that you can overcome challenges and achieve greatness, no matter what you’ve been through. My experience with mental health has taught me resilience, and I carry that lesson into everything I do. It has also shaped my relationships. I’ve become more empathetic and understanding of others because I know what it’s like to feel misunderstood or alone. I try to be a supportive friend, teammate, and family member, offering encouragement and a listening ear when someone needs it. My struggles have taught me that everyone is fighting battles we may not see, and showing kindness and patience can make a huge difference. In terms of understanding the world, my experiences have given me a deeper appreciation for the complexity of life. I’ve learned that challenges don’t define us—how we respond to them does. I’ve also realized that it’s important to seek help when needed, whether through friends, family, or professionals. Vulnerability isn’t a weakness; it’s a strength that allows us to grow and connect with others on a deeper level. Mental health is something I’m passionate about because of what I’ve been through. I know there are others out there who are struggling, feeling like they’re not enough or that they’ll never overcome their challenges. I want to be a voice of hope for them, showing them that healing is possible and that they have the power to create a brighter future for themselves. Ultimately, my experience with mental health has taught me resilience, empathy, and the importance of balance. It’s shaped my goals as an athlete, my relationships with those around me, and my understanding of the world. While I know the journey isn’t always easy, I’ve learned that it’s worth it, and I’m committed to helping others see that for themselves.

I have so many military family members, but my cousin has stood out the most to me. He’s more than just family—he’s like a big brother. Growing up, he was always someone I looked up to. He’s why I played sports and video games, two things that have become a big part of my life. He had this way of encouraging me to try new things, constantly pushing me to be better, and showing me that even the little things we enjoy can teach us discipline, strategy, and resilience. My cousin was a Marine, and his time in the military taught me some of the most valuable lessons. He showed me that no matter where you come from or how smart or strong you think you are, anything is possible if you put your mind to it. One of the things that stood out the most about him was his time in Japan for two to three years. It was incredible to hear about his experiences in a completely different culture, and it made me realize how big the world is and how much there is to explore. But not everything in his life came easy, making his story even more inspiring. He and his wife went through the heartbreak of losing a child—a little girl who would have been my baby cousin and niece. Watching them go through that loss was difficult for me, and I can’t imagine how hard it was for him. But instead of letting it defeat him, he used that experience to grow stronger. He taught me that setbacks, no matter how painful, don’t define us. They’re part of the journey and can teach us resilience and faith in ways nothing else can. That loss also showed me the kind of strength and love he had for his family. Despite the pain, he remained hopeful and kept moving forward, constantly reminding me that life is about perseverance. It taught me that setbacks don’t mean the end—they’re just part of the process that leads to something greater. Through his time in the Marines, his passion for sports and games, and even his struggles, my cousin has incredibly impacted my life. He taught me the value of determination, the importance of never giving up, and how to turn even the most harrowing moments into lessons for growth. I carry those lessons with me to this day, and I hope to make him proud by living out the values he’s shown me.

To me, success is about living a life of purpose, impact, and fulfillment. It’s not just about personal achievements or accolades; it’s about making a difference in the lives of others while reaching my highest potential. Success is realizing my dreams, a legacy built on faith, hard work, and the ability to inspire others to believe in their greatness. It’s about embodying resilience, generosity, and leadership in everything I do. My vision of success encompasses several key elements. First, it’s about excelling in my basketball career, playing at the highest levels in the WNBA and overseas. For years, I’ve dreamed of not only competing in these arenas but also leaving a mark by breaking records, winning championships, and being an unstoppable force on the court. I see myself as an athlete who inspires others through my skills, dedication, sportsmanship, and ability to overcome challenges. Success means using my platform to uplift others, proving that anything is possible with faith and perseverance. Second, success is about building a legacy beyond basketball. I aspire to be a role model who gives back to my community, creates opportunities for others, and establishes businesses and investments that reflect my values. I want to create scholarships, mentor young athletes, and contribute to initiatives that empower people to achieve their dreams. My vision includes being a source of hope and encouragement, especially for those who feel overlooked or underestimated, as I once did. This legacy will also extend to my family, as I aim to provide for them, share opportunities, and honor the sacrifices they’ve made for me. Third, success involves personal growth and fulfillment. I see myself as constantly evolving—spiritually, emotionally, and intellectually. Whether learning new languages, mastering financial management, or deepening my relationship with God and Jesus, success means becoming the best version of myself. It also involves cultivating meaningful relationships, embracing love, and finding happiness in the journey, not just the destination. This opportunity will help me achieve success by providing the resources, support, and exposure needed to turn my dreams into reality. It will allow me to sharpen my skills, expand my network, and gain experiences to propel me toward my goals. Whether it’s access to mentorship, training, or financial support, this opportunity represents a stepping stone to greatness. It will help me grow as an athlete, leader, and individual, equipping me with the tools I need to thrive. Moreover, this opportunity will allow me to inspire others on a larger scale. With its platform, I can share my story, encourage others to pursue their dreams and demonstrate the power of faith and determination. I believe that my success isn’t just for me—it’s for everyone who looks up to me and sees a reflection of their potential. By achieving my goals, I can show others that they can overcome obstacles and achieve greatness. Finally, this opportunity aligns with my values of giving back and making a difference. It will position me to invest in my community, create initiatives that empower others, and set an example of what it means to live a purpose-driven life. Whether it’s mentoring young athletes, funding scholarships, or supporting causes I’m passionate about, this opportunity will amplify my ability to leave a positive impact. In conclusion, success for me is more than personal achievements—it’s about creating a legacy of excellence, faith, and service. This opportunity represents a crucial step toward realizing that vision. With its resources and support, I’m confident I can achieve my dreams, inspire others, and contribute to a brighter future for those around me. Together, we can turn this vision into reality, proving that success is within reach for all of us with faith, hard work, and the right opportunities.

I’ve developed my skills and shaped my purpose by committing to growth resilience and helping others unlock their full potential. Challenges have marked my journey, but each obstacle has fueled my determination to improve and inspire those around me. I’ve realized that success isn’t just about personal achievement but also about uplifting others and helping them see the greatness within themselves. This drive stems from my own experiences, particularly in sports, where I faced adversity and moments of feeling undervalued despite my hard work and dedication. Those moments taught me the importance of perseverance, humility, and faith. Instead of letting those challenges discourage me, I used them as stepping stones to build my character, sharpen my skills, and grow spiritually. Over time, I learned that leading by example was one of the most powerful ways to inspire others. Helping others has become more than a goal; it’s my passion. Whether on the court, in the classroom, or in everyday life, I enjoy seeing people succeed. It’s about showing others that greatness is within reach if they’re willing to work for it. I encourage them to embrace discipline, consistency, and faith, and I share my story to remind them that setbacks are not the end—they’re opportunities to grow stronger. Mentorship is one of the ways I’ve embraced this purpose. I take time to listen, guide, and provide encouragement to those who need it. I understand the impact of having someone who believes in you, even when you struggle to believe in yourself. Whether helping someone improve their game, offering advice on navigating challenges, or simply being a positive presence, I see every interaction as an opportunity to make a difference. However, as much as I pour into others, I also recognize the importance of having someone pour into me. I’ve worked hard to help others achieve their goals and value having someone do the same for me. Whether through mentorship, opportunities, or even small acts of support, I believe in the power of mutual growth. There’s something transformative about receiving the same energy and dedication you give to others. My passions are deeply rooted in my aspirations to play basketball at the highest levels, build a legacy, and inspire others. I’ve dedicated countless hours to honing my craft, setting ambitious goals, and striving for greatness. But just as I encourage others to seek support and guidance, I also hope for that same encouragement and investment in my journey. Having someone believe in me and contribute to my growth would fuel my drive and reinforce the principle that success is best achieved together. Ultimately, my purpose is to leave a positive impact on everyone I meet. By helping others realize their potential and working toward my dreams, I aim to create a ripple effect of inspiration and success. In return, I hope to experience the same support, proving that collaboration and shared purpose can lead to extraordinary results.

My name is Lyriq Reyes, and I am a student-athlete with a deep passion for basketball, education, and community service. I am guided by faith in Jehovah and Jesus, who have shaped my journey and instilled in me the values of perseverance, compassion, and resilience. As a proud Cherokee descendant and someone who has overcome significant challenges in life, I carry a strong sense of identity and purpose. From a young age, I have been drawn to the power of sports, particularly basketball, as a tool for transformation—personally and in the lives of those around me. I dream of playing in the WNBA and NBA, using my platform to inspire young people to chase their dreams and believe in themselves. Alongside my athletic pursuits, I am dedicated to academic excellence, and I plan to further my education by earning a master’s degree. This will equip me with the knowledge and skills to create meaningful change beyond the court. I plan to impact the world positively by leveraging my platform as an athlete and entrepreneur to uplift my community. I aim to establish programs and initiatives that provide scholarships, mentorship, and resources to underprivileged youth, enabling them to access opportunities they might not otherwise have. As someone who understands the importance of support and encouragement, I want to guide others, helping them overcome obstacles and achieve their full potential. Additionally, I am passionate about empowering my family and community. My vision includes creating businesses and investments that build generational wealth and foster growth and opportunities for others. I also plan to make a difference by advocating for health and wellness. Having seen loved ones face health challenges, I am deeply motivated to encourage others to prioritize their physical, mental, and spiritual well-being. This includes promoting healthy lifestyles, inspiring confidence, and helping others find their purpose through faith and perseverance. Ultimately, I believe that small actions can lead to significant changes. By staying true to my values, maintaining my faith, and striving to be the best version of myself, I hope to leave a legacy that inspires others to dream big, work hard, and give back. My journey is not just about achieving personal success—it’s about making a positive and lasting impact on the world, one step at a time.

My mental and physical wellness are essential because they are the foundation for every aspect of my life. When I feel mentally strong, I can focus on my goals, approach challenges resiliently, and build meaningful relationships. Similarly, maintaining physical health allows me to perform at my best as a student-athlete and gives me the energy to tackle my academic and personal responsibilities. Together, mental and physical wellness enable me to grow into the person I aspire to be—strong, balanced, and capable of achieving my dreams. Taking care of my mental health is crucial because it helps me navigate the pressures of life, particularly as a student. Anxiety and stress can be overwhelming at times, but I’ve learned that prioritizing my mental wellness enables me to manage these emotions effectively. Physical wellness is just as essential; staying active through basketball keeps me in shape and acts as an outlet for stress. Both forms of wellness are deeply connected, and when one is neglected, the other often suffers, which is why I strive to keep them balanced. Challenges as a Student Balancing mental and physical health with the demands of being a student is not always easy. One of the biggest challenges I face is time management. Between classes, assignments, basketball practice, and personal responsibilities, it can feel like there aren’t enough hours to care for me. I sometimes find myself sacrificing sleep, proper meals, or moments of self-care to meet deadlines or commitments, which can lead to burnout. Another challenge is dealing with stress and anxiety, especially during exam periods or when juggling multiple responsibilities. The pressure to perform academically and athletically can be overwhelming, and it takes intentional effort to avoid letting it take a toll on my mental health. Physical wellness also comes with its hurdles. I need to stay in peak condition as an athlete, but injuries or overtraining can sometimes make that difficult. Maintaining a healthy diet can also be challenging when I’m constantly on the go or have limited access to nutritious food options. Lastly, being a student often means facing financial and social pressures, which can exacerbate mental health struggles. Whether it’s the cost of books, tuition, or even finding time to connect with loved ones, these challenges add up and can impact my overall well-being. Overcoming Challenges I focus on creating routines and seeking balance to maintain my mental and physical wellness. Journaling helps me process my thoughts and reduce stress, while prayer and faith provide peace and strength. Staying active through basketball and other forms of exercise keeps my body healthy and helps me clear my mind. I’ve also learned to lean on my support system, including my family, mentors, and teammates, who remind me that I don’t have to face challenges alone. By setting boundaries and prioritizing self-care, I’ve made progress in managing my time more effectively. Investing in my wellness is not a luxury but a necessity to achieve my goals. Ultimately, my mental and physical health are my greatest assets. They empower me to grow, persevere, and positively impact others. Though maintaining wellness comes with challenges, I remain committed to overcoming them and building a life of balance, strength, and purpose.

From middle school through high school, I faced some of the most challenging moments of my life. My mental health was deeply affected by anxiety and depression, and anger often consumed me due to the absence and actions of my biological father. At times, I felt lost and overwhelmed, questioning my worth and struggling to see a brighter future. However, through a combination of support, personal growth, and faith, I’ve learned to rise above those struggles, and I continue to manage my recovery with purpose and strength. During my younger years, the instability created by my biological father’s actions left a lasting impact. I often felt abandoned and betrayed, which fueled my anger and fed into my anxiety and depression. My emotions were like waves crashing over me, and I struggled to find a way to stay afloat. It was a difficult time, but my life changed when my mom found someone who stepped up and took on the role of a father figure in my life. This man didn’t just show up; he showed me what a real father looks like. Despite having his own challenges, including the absence of his father, he embraced the guidance of a mentor who filled that role for him. His ability to grow and create a life of love and stability inspired me. He treated me like his own daughter, giving me the support and care I desperately needed. Having him in my life gave me hope and a renewed sense of trust in others. Around the same time, I began speaking to a therapist, which became a turning point in my journey. My therapist encouraged me to channel my emotions into healthier outlets, like writing in a journal and playing basketball. Writing helped me express the feelings I couldn’t say out loud, and basketball became a safe space where I could release my anger and focus on something positive. To this day, these practices remain essential parts of my mental health toolkit. Helping others has also been a powerful force in my recovery. When I give back, whether through mentoring, volunteering, or simply being there for someone who is struggling, I feel a sense of purpose. It reminds me that my experiences and challenges can be used to uplift others. The most transformative part of my journey, however, has been my faith. Giving my worries, doubts, and fears to God and Jesus has brought me peace and clarity. Trusting in them has helped me to release the burdens I once carried alone. Through prayer, scripture, and reflection, I’ve learned to find strength in my faith and hope for the future. As I look forward, I am committed to continuing this journey of recovery and growth. I will keep writing in my journal to process my thoughts and emotions. I will continue playing basketball, not just for the love of the game but as a way to maintain my mental and physical health. I will also prioritize helping others, knowing that in lifting others, I lift myself. Most importantly, I will keep my faith at the center of my life. I’ve learned that recovery is not a linear process—it’s a lifelong commitment to making healthy choices and trusting in God’s plan. By leaning on my faith, my family, and the lessons I’ve learned through therapy, I know I can overcome any challenge that comes my way. Education is another critical part of my journey. I’ve set clear goals to not only graduate but to continue pursuing higher education. My experiences have given me a deep appreciation for resilience and the value of personal growth, and I want to use my education to make a difference in the world. In reflecting on my past, I’ve come to realize that the pain and struggles I experienced have shaped me into a stronger, more compassionate person. While my journey hasn’t been easy, I am grateful for the support I’ve received and the lessons I’ve learned along the way. My recovery is ongoing, but with the tools I’ve gained and the faith that guides me, I am confident in my ability to thrive and inspire others to do the same.

This opportunity is incredibly meaningful to me because it represents a chance to take a step closer to my dreams, while also aligning with my core values of faith, perseverance, and service. My journey toward success has been shaped by a deep and unwavering belief in God, which has provided me with strength, guidance, and the resilience to overcome the many challenges I’ve faced. I’ve learned that with faith, anything is possible, and this scholarship will allow me to continue pursuing my aspirations while remaining grounded in the principles that matter most to me. Faith has been a pivotal force in my life, and it’s through my belief in Jehovah and Jesus that I’ve been able to navigate life’s difficulties. Growing up, I encountered many obstacles, particularly in my athletic pursuits. Whether facing adversity in sports or dealing with challenges in school, I often felt overwhelmed by self-doubt and fear of failure. But through it all, my faith reminded me that I wasn’t alone and that, with God’s help, I could overcome anything. Philippians 4:13 says, “I can do all things through Christ who strengthens me,” and this scripture has been a cornerstone of my belief system. It has empowered me to push through tough times, whether on the basketball court or in the classroom, knowing that success comes from faith, hard work, and dedication. My journey has been filled with both trials and triumphs, but it’s my faith that has carried me through each chapter. I’ve had moments of uncertainty when I questioned my abilities, but it was in those moments that I leaned on my faith the most. I’ve faced struggles in sports where coaches favored others over me, yet I kept pushing forward, knowing that God had a bigger plan. It was through perseverance and prayer that I learned to trust His timing and plan for my life. These experiences have taught me that no matter the external circumstances, my faith will always be my anchor. In the future, I plan to continue using my faith as a guiding force in all aspects of my life. Whether in my athletic career or personal endeavors, I will stay grounded in the belief that God’s purpose for my life is greater than any setback I may face. I understand that the road to success will not always be easy, but with faith, I can handle any challenge that comes my way. As I continue to pursue my dreams of becoming a WNBA player and further my education, I will always place my trust in God’s guidance. My faith will continue to drive me to make a difference in my community, inspire others, and give back to those who need it most. Ultimately, this scholarship represents not just an opportunity for me to reach my goals, but also an opportunity to live out my faith, serve others, and honor God in all I do. My story is one of faith, resilience, and the unwavering belief that through God, all things are possible.

I have chosen to pursue a career in basketball, specifically aiming to play in the WNBA, because it has been a driving passion throughout my life. From a young age, basketball provided me not only with an outlet for physical energy but also with a platform to develop life skills such as perseverance, teamwork, and leadership. Basketball is more than just a sport to me; it represents a path to personal growth, self-discovery, and the opportunity to make a positive impact on others. Throughout my journey, I’ve faced various challenges—both personal and physical—that have tested my strength and resilience. Whether dealing with discouragement or overcoming setbacks on the court, I’ve learned to push past adversity. These experiences have solidified my commitment to reaching my professional goals. Each struggle has become a lesson in patience and determination. I now see challenges as opportunities to grow stronger and better equipped for the future. These lessons inspire my drive to play at the highest level and reach the WNBA, where I can further my growth and inspire others to do the same. My passion for playing in the WNBA goes beyond personal success. I want to use my platform to inspire young athletes, particularly girls and women of color, to pursue their dreams without limitations. Growing up, I didn’t always see role models who looked like me, and I now recognize that I can be that role model for others. I want to show young athletes that their dreams are valid, no matter the obstacles in their way, and help them realize their potential. Additionally, I am deeply committed to advocating for gender equality in sports. Women’s sports have historically been overlooked, and I believe it’s crucial to change that narrative. I plan to use my career as a WNBA player to raise awareness and create visibility for women’s athletics. Equal respect and resources should be given to women’s sports, and I am determined to contribute to that shift, ensuring that women’s sports receive the same attention and appreciation as men’s. Moreover, giving back to my community is an essential part of my journey. I understand that success is not just measured by personal achievement but by the impact we have on others. I hope to mentor young athletes, raise funds for scholarships, and contribute to community-based initiatives. By doing so, I can help create opportunities for others who face barriers similar to those I’ve overcome. In the end, my vision is to inspire others by demonstrating resilience, hard work, and dedication. Through my career in basketball, I want to leave a lasting impact, showing others that they too can overcome challenges and reach their goals. My journey is about far more than basketball; it’s about creating a legacy that encourages others to believe in themselves and pursue their dreams.

I believe it is important to work toward a deeper understanding of the nature of our universe because it allows us to reflect on our own place in it and seek to improve both ourselves and the world around us. Our journey to comprehend the universe is not just about discovering physical laws or scientific truths; it’s about understanding the connections between our actions, thoughts, and the greater existence that we are part of. One person who has significantly shaped my view on understanding the universe is my mother, Ms. Lala. Although she may not realize it, her teachings have given me a deeper sense of purpose in life. She taught me that to truly understand ourselves and the universe, we must first put Jehovah and Jesus at the center of our lives. This principle has become foundational in my understanding of the universe and existence as a whole. When we place divine wisdom at the core of our lives, it helps us to look beyond our limited human perspective and see the world with more clarity. Jehovah is the name of God in the Bible, the Creator and Ruler of the universe. In the Christian faith, Jehovah is recognized as the supreme being, the one who created everything—heaven and earth, the stars and the planets, and all life. Jehovah’s teachings, as revealed through the Bible, provide guidance on how to live in harmony with his will and purpose for humanity. His wisdom and divine laws serve as a light in a world full of uncertainty, helping us navigate our lives with understanding, love, and compassion. Too often, we make the mistake of thinking we have all the answers, especially when it comes to human interactions and our understanding of the universe. We tend to hold grudges, dwell on past mistakes, or allow ourselves to become stagnant in our personal growth. However, true progress begins with forgiveness, growth, and moving beyond these limitations. The teachings of Jehovah and Jesus emphasize love, grace, and forgiveness—qualities that are essential to understanding the deeper truths of the universe. Through faith, we can begin to open our minds and hearts to the greater forces at work in our lives and the world. Looking at the perspectives of philosophers throughout history, both believers and non-believers, we see that they each had their own unique approach to understanding existence, but many of their beliefs were rooted in the pursuit of truth. Some turned to logic, others to spirituality, and some to human experiences. Yet, despite the varied paths, they all share a common thread: the search for something greater than themselves. Their experiences—whether of the divine, the cosmos, or the nature of human existence—point toward a universal truth that we all seek to understand in our own way. In order to better understand the universe, I hope to incorporate a blend of ideas from both philosophical teachings and spiritual beliefs. By doing so, I believe we can find a deeper connection to both the physical world and the spiritual forces that govern it. Through personal growth, reflection, and a commitment to putting Jehovah and Jesus first, we can begin to better understand ourselves, the universe, and the purpose we each serve in this vast, interconnected existence. The pursuit of wisdom and understanding is a lifelong journey, and I believe that through faith, learning, and openness, we can all come closer to uncovering the mysteries of the universe.

In honor of Black History Month, one Black leader who has profoundly inspired me is my uncle, Cake Man Raven. His journey as an entrepreneur, his resilience in the face of adversity, and his ability to give back to his community have deeply shaped my perspective on leadership and success. Cake Man Raven is known for his exceptional baking talents, turning a passion for creating cakes into a thriving business. However, his story is much more than just about his culinary expertise. Growing up, he faced numerous challenges, both personally and professionally, but he never allowed those obstacles to define his path. Instead, he used them as stepping stones to achieve his dreams. I remember hearing the stories of how he struggled in the early years, working tirelessly to get his business off the ground. His perseverance in the face of setbacks showed me the importance of never giving up, no matter how difficult the journey may seem. He taught me that success doesn’t come overnight; it comes from dedication, hard work, and the ability to stay focused on your vision. What sets Cake Man Raven apart from others is not just his business success but his commitment to his family and community. He has always prioritized helping others and sharing his knowledge and experiences. Throughout his career, he has taken time to mentor younger family members, offering guidance and support. He emphasizes the importance of education and pursuing one’s passions, especially for young Black people looking for role models in a world that often seems stacked against them. Through his actions, he has shown me that success is not just about personal achievement but also about lifting others up along the way. One of the most significant lessons Cake Man Raven has taught me is the importance of giving back to the community. He has consistently found ways to use his success to impact those around him, whether it’s through providing desserts for community events or supporting local causes. His ability to stay grounded and humble despite his accomplishments has instilled in me the desire to do the same. I’ve learned that true leadership is not about seeking personal accolades but about using your influence to inspire and uplift others. His example has inspired me to use my own talents and abilities to contribute to my community, whether through sports or other forms of outreach. Beyond his entrepreneurial achievements, Cake Man Raven’s ability to stay true to his roots and remain connected to his Black identity has been a powerful example. He has navigated the challenges that come with being a Black entrepreneur in a competitive industry, proving that excellence can thrive despite systemic barriers. His success has been a beacon of hope for me, showing that no matter the obstacles we face, we have the ability to overcome them through hard work, determination, and an unwavering belief in ourselves. As I continue on my own path toward becoming a WNBA star and a leader in my community, I draw strength and inspiration from my uncle’s journey. Cake Man Raven’s legacy has shaped my understanding of leadership, hard work, and giving back to others. His example has shown me that it’s not enough to achieve success for oneself; true greatness comes when we use our accomplishments to make a positive impact on the world around us. I strive to embody these same values as I work toward my own dreams, always remembering that with dedication, perseverance, and a commitment to others, I can achieve my goals and leave a lasting impact on those I encounter along the way.

My athletic journey has been a powerful testament to courage, resilience, and the unwavering belief in Jehovah’s guidance. It has shaped me into who I am today, teaching me the value of perseverance, and most importantly, that with Jehovah by my side, no challenge is insurmountable. Every step of the way, I’ve encountered obstacles that could have deterred me, but through it all, my faith has been my anchor. I’ve learned that no matter the setbacks, with Jehovah’s strength, I can rise above anything that comes my way. Jehovah is the name of the one true God, the Creator of the universe, who is eternal, all-powerful, and all-knowing. In the Bible, He reveals Himself as a loving and compassionate Father, guiding His followers with wisdom, strength, and love. His teachings inspire us to live justly, show kindness and forgiveness, and maintain faith in Him, especially during life’s trials. Jehovah is not just a distant deity; He is personally involved in the lives of His followers, helping them through their challenges and encouraging them to grow in faith and strength. Growing up, I witnessed the power of Jehovah in the lives of those around me, particularly in my family. Many of my family members, including myself, are learning to live in a way that reflects Jehovah’s teachings, striving to embody His strength and resilience. Their example has shown me the importance of staying grounded in faith, even during the most trying times. Just as Jehovah has guided them, I trust that He will continue to guide me on my journey, helping me grow both spiritually and as an athlete. Jehovah is not only the Creator of all things, but He is a loving and compassionate Father who desires a close relationship with His followers. Throughout my journey, I have faced moments that tested my determination—being underestimated, struggling with difficult coaches and teammates, and dealing with obstacles that seemed too great to overcome. But with Jehovah’s help, I have come to understand that setbacks are not failures; they are opportunities to grow stronger. I have learned that resilience is not about never falling but about having the courage to get back up, keep pushing forward, and trust that Jehovah is with me every step of the way. In sports, as in life, I’ve learned that true strength comes not from avoiding hardship, but from facing it head-on with faith and perseverance. The challenges I’ve faced have only strengthened my resolve and have shown me that with Jehovah, all things are possible. This courage, rooted in my faith, is something I aim to share with others. I want to inspire the next generation of athletes to believe that, with Jehovah’s help, they too can overcome any obstacle. I want them to see that setbacks do not define them, but how they rise from those setbacks with faith and determination does. Through this journey, I am becoming more like Jehovah, just as many of my family members are striving to do. We’re learning to live by His teachings, to show love, compassion, and resilience, and to trust in His will. With Jehovah’s strength guiding me, I aim to inspire others not only in sports but also in life. I hope to help others face their struggles with courage and faith, knowing that with Jehovah by our side, we can achieve anything.

Education has always been a cornerstone of personal development and success. I believe it is a powerful tool that shapes not only our knowledge and skills but also our character and ability to navigate the world. For me, education is more than just attending classes or earning a degree. It’s the foundation upon which I build my future and the means through which I can pursue my dreams, especially my aspirations of becoming a professional basketball player and a successful entrepreneur. Education equips me with the tools needed to think critically, adapt to challenges, and continuously grow in an ever-changing world. From an early age, I was taught to value education, not just for the academic knowledge it provides, but for the discipline and work ethic it cultivates. Growing up in a family with a diverse range of careers, including doctors, teachers, and law enforcement officers, I’ve witnessed the importance of education firsthand. My family’s unwavering commitment to their professions has shown me that education is a pathway to opportunity and success, and it instilled in me the belief that if I put in the work, I can achieve anything. Throughout my academic journey, education has taught me how to think critically and solve problems. Whether in the classroom or on the court, I have learned to approach challenges with a mindset that focuses on growth and improvement. It has also shown me the value of perseverance and resilience, particularly when I faced adversity in sports. Education gave me the tools to stay focused on my goals and understand that every obstacle is a learning experience, not a setback. It has made me more resourceful and adaptable, essential qualities for success in both athletics and business. Moreover, education has expanded my worldview and deepened my appreciation for different cultures, ideas, and perspectives. This is especially important as I aim to reach my goals in the WNBA and in business. Being able to understand and communicate with people from all walks of life will help me build relationships, collaborate effectively, and make a positive impact on the communities I serve. In 2025, my goal is to graduate with high honors, gain entry into the WNBA, and pursue a master’s degree to continue expanding my knowledge and opportunities. Education will continue to guide me on my path, helping me make strategic business decisions and be a positive influence on others. With the knowledge and skills education has provided me, I am confident I will turn my dreams into reality.

My faith in God has been the cornerstone of my life, providing guidance and strength through both challenges and triumphs. Over the years, I have encountered several situations where God’s presence and guidance have been undeniable. One of the most significant experiences was when I faced adversity in my sports journey. During my high school years, I struggled with feeling overlooked and underappreciated by my coaches and teammates. In moments of doubt and frustration, I turned to God for strength and wisdom. I prayed for the patience to stay focused, the resilience to keep pushing forward, and the courage to trust that my efforts would eventually pay off. Through these prayers, I gained the clarity and motivation I needed to continue working hard and believing in my worth. In another instance, I encountered a time of uncertainty regarding my future goals. As I reflected on my dreams of playing in the WNBA and owning my own business, I prayed for guidance to ensure that I was on the right path. God has shown me that success is not only about achieving personal goals but also about serving others and using my gifts to make a positive impact on the world. This realization has deeply influenced the way I approach both my athletic and professional aspirations. God’s presence has been a constant reminder that I am never alone in my journey. Whether I am facing challenges or celebrating successes, I rely on His guidance and trust that He is leading me toward the right opportunities. Having Him in the center of everything I do has provided me with a sense of peace, knowing that no matter how difficult the road may seem, I am always walking with Him. As it says in Romans 1:16, “For I am not ashamed of the good news, because it is God’s power for salvation to everyone who has faith, to the Jew first and also to the Greek” (New World Translation). This scripture reminds me to always be confident in God’s guidance and to stand firm in my faith, no matter where my journey takes me. As I continue to pursue my dreams, I believe my faith will be an essential part of my career. In athletics, there will be moments of victory and defeat, and I will need to rely on God’s strength and wisdom to guide me through both. I believe that success in my career is not just about personal achievement, but also about being a positive influence on others. Through my faith, I know that I can inspire others with my story, showing them that perseverance, hard work, and trust in God can lead to incredible things. In my future business endeavors, I also plan to center my faith in my decision-making. I will rely on God’s guidance to help me make ethical and wise choices, focusing not only on personal success but also on creating opportunities to give back to my community. Ultimately, I believe that God will continue to guide me toward success, and that my faith will remain the driving force behind all of my endeavors.

One of the most significant challenges I’ve overcome in my life was the adversity I faced during my high school years, particularly in sports. Despite my hard work, dedication, and strong sportsmanship, I felt underappreciated by coaches and teammates, and it was difficult to find my place within the team. My efforts went unnoticed, and I often found myself competing with teammates who had better relationships with the coaching staff, which led to feelings of frustration and discouragement. It was tough not receiving the recognition I felt I deserved, but this experience taught me invaluable lessons in perseverance and resilience. Instead of giving up, I chose to keep pushing forward, knowing that my worth wasn’t defined by the opinions of others. I worked on improving my skills, maintained a positive attitude, and stayed committed to my personal growth. Through this experience, I learned the importance of staying true to myself, even in challenging situations, and never letting adversity dictate my future. This experience shaped my mindset, teaching me that success is not always about immediate recognition, but about the long-term journey and the effort put in behind the scenes. Now, I look at challenges as opportunities to grow and learn. The difficulties I faced in high school pushed me to become more self-reliant and focused on my personal goals. As I continue to pursue my dream of becoming a professional basketball player, I carry the lessons of resilience, determination, and self-belief with me. This mindset will guide me as I work toward overcoming any future challenges, and it serves as a reminder that perseverance is key to achieving success. Receiving this scholarship would be a significant step toward achieving my goals and giving back to my community. Education and personal growth are integral to the impact I wish to make. I want to be able to use the resources I gain through this scholarship to further my studies, improve my skills, and continue my athletic training. The more I learn and grow, the more equipped I will be to serve others. I’ve always been passionate about helping my community, whether it’s through volunteering to support low-income families, assisting with disaster relief efforts, or offering guidance to younger athletes. This scholarship would give me the financial support needed to focus on my education and athletic career, so I can eventually give back to my community by offering mentorship, resources, and support to those who need it most. In terms of encouraging young people to pursue hobbies like philately, I would emphasize the educational and historical value of stamp collecting. Philately is a hobby that encourages attention to detail and helps people learn about different cultures, countries, and historical events through the stamps they collect. I would introduce it as a fun and engaging way to explore the world without leaving home. For young people interested in history or art, philately offers a unique way to combine those passions while building a collection they can be proud of. It’s also a hobby that can be shared with family and friends, promoting social interaction and the exchange of knowledge. I would suggest starting by learning about the history behind specific stamps and the stories they tell, which can inspire young people to dive deeper into the subject and make it an exciting and educational pursuit.

As someone who is gay, I’ve personally experienced the challenges and stigma that often come with being part of the LGBTQIA+ community. I’ve witnessed both the positive and negative impact this has had on my own life and the lives of people close to me, particularly within my family. I’ve seen how certain family members have been affected by harsh judgment and disrespect when it comes to their identities and preferences. One of the most difficult moments I’ve faced was being blamed for my cousin following my own example, which created tension within our family. This experience was painful because my journey toward embracing my true self had always been something personal to me, not something I imposed on others. I realized that the true issue wasn’t my identity, but the judgment and misunderstanding surrounding it. In the face of these challenges, I found peace and comfort in my own skin. I’ve always been confident in my attraction to girls, and my journey to self-acceptance has been empowering. I’ve learned that being true to myself is not only important for my own well-being but also for my ability to live authentically without fear of judgment. Over time, this self-acceptance strengthened me and helped me support others who were struggling with similar situations. I learned that loving and appreciating who we are, despite the opinions of others, is the key to overcoming stigma and building resilience. The experiences I’ve had with my family and within my community have profoundly shaped my understanding of the importance of advocacy and support for the LGBTQIA+ community. I’ve seen firsthand how harmful discrimination and judgment can be when people are only seeking acceptance and love. These experiences motivated me to be an ally and advocate for LGBTQIA+ rights. I am committed to standing up for equality, inclusion, and love in all its forms. I’ve witnessed the struggle and isolation that can come from not being accepted, and it has inspired me to help create a world where everyone, regardless of their identity, feels valued and respected. Through my activism, I want to use my voice to raise awareness and educate others about the LGBTQIA+ community. I hope to promote kindness and inclusivity, ensuring that individuals feel seen, heard, and loved. The adversity I’ve faced has strengthened my resolve to create a future where no one feels isolated or discriminated against simply for being themselves. This journey has only increased my passion for supporting others and being an advocate for change in the world.

I am a driven and passionate individual, dedicated not only to achieving my personal goals but also to making a positive impact on the community around me. I come from a family with a deep sense of service, where helping others is a core value. Growing up, I was always encouraged to lend a hand whenever I could, whether it was assisting family, friends, or people in need. My family has instilled in me the importance of discipline, hard work, and the significance of service to others. These values have shaped my mindset and propelled me to seek opportunities where I can give back. One time I made a positive impact on my community was through my dad’s AAU basketball team. I noticed that several of the players didn’t have enough clothes or the proper gear to perform at their best. I understood how challenging it could be to feel out of place or self-conscious when you don’t have the right equipment, so I decided to help. I gave away some of my own clothes and shared them with the players who were in need. This simple act of kindness had a tremendous effect. It not only boosted their confidence but also ensured they had the gear they needed to play at their full potential. Seeing their reactions and knowing I had contributed to their well-being felt incredibly rewarding. In addition to helping with clothing, I’ve also assisted my dad with various tasks related to his AAU team, whether it’s helping with event coordination or supporting the athletes during practices. Over time, I’ve seen how much small acts of kindness and support can make a significant difference in someone’s life. The impact doesn’t just stop at helping with material things; it extends to the emotional and mental boost that can propel someone toward success. These experiences of giving back have reinforced the importance of servitude and helping others. It’s shown me that service goes beyond just providing material assistance; it’s about being a positive influence, uplifting others, and encouraging them to pursue their dreams. I’ve realized that when we help others, we create a cycle of positivity that extends far beyond our immediate actions. This sense of giving back is something I plan to continue throughout my life. Through athletics, community involvement, and leadership, I hope to inspire others and make a lasting impact, just as my family has done for me.

I come from a family with diverse careers that have significantly influenced who I am and the path I am on. Some of my family members are doctors, coaches, teachers, military personnel, secret service members, and police officers. Their dedication to serving others through healthcare, education, or law enforcement has instilled in me a strong work ethic and the importance of discipline, service, and perseverance. Growing up surrounded by such inspiring role models has motivated me to pursue greatness and make a meaningful impact on the world. They’ve taught me the value of hard work, sacrifice, and giving back to the community, so I strive to create a positive influence wherever I go. The lessons they’ve imparted on me have shaped my view of success, not just as a personal achievement, but as an opportunity to inspire and uplift those around me. In terms of my education, I attended Regent University, where I focused on furthering my knowledge and developing the skills necessary to excel in my career aspirations. The experience at Regent helped shape my understanding of discipline, leadership, and the importance of positively influencing the communities I’m a part of. It also taught me the significance of balancing academics, sports, and personal growth, which has helped me stay focused and driven. The connections I’ve made with professors and peers have also been invaluable, offering me the support and guidance I need to stay committed to my goals. Looking toward the future, I aim to make a name for myself and leave behind a legacy others can admire. I’m working hard to become a WNBA star, pushing myself physically, mentally, and emotionally to do the work required to achieve this dream. I understand that becoming a professional athlete requires dedication, resilience, and the ability to face challenges head-on, and that’s precisely what I’m committed to. The discipline and perseverance I’ve learned from my family’s example will continue to fuel my determination to succeed. Along the way, I plan to inspire others who come from diverse backgrounds, just as I have, to pursue their dreams and break through barriers. After graduation, I plan to pursue a master’s degree to further my education and expand my career opportunities. Continuously challenging myself through schooling will give me the tools to excel on and off the court. I also aim to use my platform to make a difference, advocate for those in need, and inspire others to chase their dreams, just as I am. Whether through sports, education, or leadership, I want to use my success to give back and make a lasting impact on others. I am determined to reach my goals and empower others to do the same, ultimately leaving a legacy that encourages greatness, resilience, and service to others. Through it all, I hope to show that with hard work, faith, and persistence, anything is possible.

My vision for a career in sports information revolves around combining my passion for sports, communication, and storytelling to inform and engage audiences. I aspire to work in an environment where I can help promote athletic programs, create compelling content, and facilitate communication between athletes, coaches, and fans. The sports information field offers a dynamic opportunity to use media and digital platforms to elevate the stories of athletes and teams while enhancing the visibility of sports. To succeed in sports information, several key skills are essential. First, strong communication abilities—both written and verbal—are crucial. In this field, writing press releases, social media posts, and reports that convey accurate information and engage the audience is a must—additionally, adapting communication for different platforms, whether a press conference or a social media post, is essential. Being well-versed in digital media is also important, as well as website management, social media strategies, and multimedia tools like video editing software, which help to reach diverse audiences effectively. Another critical skill is working under pressure and meeting tight deadlines. In the fast-paced world of sports, events often change rapidly, and staying organized, prioritizing tasks, and remaining calm under pressure is key. Teamwork and collaboration are also essential. Effective communication with coaches, athletes, and other media professionals requires cooperation and leadership to ensure smooth communication and coverage. I plan to develop these skills through education, hands-on experience, and continuous learning. Academically, I am pursuing a degree in sports management, focusing on courses in public relations, media communications, and marketing. These courses are helping me build the foundation of knowledge needed to navigate the media landscape in sports. I’m learning to craft press materials, engage with fans, and understand branding principles. In addition to academics, I am gaining practical experience by volunteering with local sports teams and interning with athletic departments. This experience has allowed me to assist with game-day operations, manage press credentials, and create post-game reports, giving me valuable insights into the fast-paced nature of sports information. I’ve also contributed to social media accounts for local teams, developing content such as player profiles and event promotions. These hands-on experiences are helping me hone my digital media and content creation skills. Ultimately, my goal in sports information is to tell compelling stories, engage fans, and enhance public understanding of sports. By continuing to develop my writing, digital media, and communication skills, I am confident I can succeed in this field and contribute to the industry’s growth.

Being part Cherokee has profoundly impacted my education, athletic journey, and future goals, providing me with a solid foundation of values that continue to guide and inspire me every day. Growing up with Native American heritage, I’ve been taught the importance of respecting tradition, embracing perseverance, and fostering a sense of community. These core values have shaped the way I approach challenges both in the classroom and on the basketball court. The Cherokee emphasis on resilience and staying grounded in the face of adversity has equipped me with the strength to overcome obstacles, particularly in sports, where I faced challenges with coaches and teammates who didn’t always appreciate my contributions. My Cherokee background has taught me that success is not simply about natural talent; it is about hard work, determination, and the ability to stay true to oneself, even when the journey feels difficult. This mindset has empowered me to push through moments of doubt and adversity, knowing that perseverance and faith in my abilities will lead me to victory. In my education, my Cherokee background has not only encouraged me to value academic achievement but also to embrace diverse perspectives and approaches to learning. I have learned that education is not confined to textbooks; it also includes the appreciation of culture, history, and the experiences of others. My upbringing has fostered a deep respect for understanding and celebrating different cultures, and this understanding has led me to develop a passion for preserving and promoting Native American history and values. This passion has fueled my desire to seek out opportunities where I can make a positive impact, particularly those that empower and uplift Native American communities. Through my education and advocacy, I hope to inspire future generations to embrace their heritage while pursuing their own dreams and aspirations. As I work toward my ultimate goal of playing in the WNBA and NBA, I draw strength from the resilience of my Cherokee ancestors. Their unwavering perseverance serves as a constant reminder that no matter the challenges I face, I have the power to rise above and achieve greatness. Their legacy instills in me the belief that each setback I encounter is simply an opportunity for growth, and that my success will not only be for my own benefit but will also serve as an example for others in my community and beyond. Every achievement, every milestone, is a reflection of the perseverance and spirit passed down from generations before me, and it is my responsibility to honor that legacy through my actions. Beyond my career in basketball, I have a strong desire to use my platform to advocate for Native American causes, raise awareness about the importance of preserving Native American culture, and support the educational and social development of Native communities. I am committed to ensuring that future generations have the resources and opportunities to thrive, just as I am striving to do. My background, rich with the wisdom, strength, and resilience of my ancestors, is a unique asset that motivates me to excel not only as an athlete but also as a positive influence in the world. I know that my success will reflect the values instilled in me by my Cherokee heritage, and I am determined to honor that legacy by giving back to my community and making a lasting difference in the lives of others. Through my education, my athletic journey, and my advocacy, I will continue to uphold the legacy of my ancestors and ensure that their voices are heard, celebrated, and respected for generations to come.

The field of strength and conditioning is evolving rapidly, and the next 5-10 years will bring significant advancements driven by technology, research, and a holistic approach to athlete development. These changes inspire me as I work toward my dream of playing in the WNBA while contributing to the future of this field. Integrating technology and data analytics is one of the most exciting developments in strength and conditioning. Wearable devices, AI-driven apps, and performance-tracking software are becoming essential for monitoring athletes’ progress, recovery, and injury prevention. As an aspiring WNBA player, I understand how critical personalized data is to improving performance. I plan to embrace these tools to optimize my training and design data-informed programs for others. My goal is to help athletes maximize their potential while maintaining their health and longevity in their sport. Another significant trend is the growing focus on mental and emotional well-being. Strength and conditioning are no longer just about physical performance; they now encompass mental resilience, mindfulness, and stress management. I’ve learned that success on the court requires physical strength and mental toughness, which I’ll continue to develop as I work toward the WNBA. I also hope to inspire athletes to prioritize their mental health by incorporating techniques like visualization, meditation, and mental recovery into their routines. The field is also shifting toward holistic athlete development, emphasizing the importance of nutrition, sleep, mobility, and overall well-being. As I pursue my basketball career, I recognize that achieving peak performance requires a balance of these factors. I aim to collaborate with nutrition and sports medicine experts to ensure my training and lifestyle choices support my goals. In the future, I plan to use this knowledge to help other athletes build comprehensive routines that set them up for success. Diversity and inclusion will play a crucial role in the evolution of strength and conditioning. There is growing recognition of the need to support female athletes and underserved communities. As a student-athlete working toward a professional basketball career, I hope to be a role model for others, showing that success is attainable with hard work and determination. I want to contribute to creating more opportunities and accessible programs for athletes from all backgrounds. Finally, evidence-based practices are becoming the standard in strength and conditioning. Coaches are increasingly relying on the latest research to inform their methods. As I strive to reach the WNBA, I plan to stay informed through continued education and collaboration with experts. This will enhance my performance and enable me to contribute to advancing the field. In the next decade, I see myself excelling on the court as a WNBA player while playing a key role in the evolution of strength and conditioning. By embracing technology, prioritizing holistic development, and advocating for inclusivity, I hope to inspire others to chase their dreams and redefine what’s possible in sports performance.

Adversity for was struggle, that came from my experiences in sports. From middle school through high school, I often felt overlooked despite my hard work, dedication, and positive attitude. While I had talented teammates, coaches frequently favored others, even when their behavior disrupted team chemistry or their performance fell short. I stayed committed, always giving my best effort in practice and games, showing great sportsmanship, and out-hustling others, but it often felt like my contributions went unrecognized. One of the toughest challenges was dealing with a difficult coach throughout high school, from freshman to senior year. This coach would repeatedly choose players who didn’t respect the team, made constant turnovers, and sometimes even talked back to her. It was frustrating, but I managed to stay focused by refusing to let these distractions derail me. I sought support from a therapist, which helped me get in the right mindset to keep pushing forward. Through it all, I focused on being the best version of myself, staying determined to outwork others and prove myself right. These experiences shaped me into someone who perseveres despite setbacks. My advice to anyone facing similar circumstances is to stay true to your work ethic, seek support when needed, and never let external negativity define your worth. Because your effort will pay off, even if it takes time. What I found most challenging about these situations was how personal they felt. In sports, progress and success are often measured through tangible results—winning games, improving stats, earning playing time, and gaining recognition from coaches and peers. When you put in the effort and don’t see those results, it can be incredibly discouraging. It’s easy to start questioning yourself and wondering if your hard work is really worth it, especially when others seem to be rewarded for behavior or performance that doesn’t align with the values of teamwork and discipline. For a long time, I struggled with this. I felt as if my worth as a player and a teammate was tied to how others viewed me, particularly the coaches. But over time, I realized that external validation wasn’t something I could control. What I could control was my effort, attitude, and commitment. Once I shifted my focus to these things, I began to see the situation in a new light. It wasn’t about whether the coach noticed my hard work or whether I got the playing time I felt I deserved—it was about whether I was proud of the way I carried myself and the effort I put in every day. Therapy played a huge role in helping me make this shift. Talking to someone who could offer an outside perspective allowed me to step back from the frustration and resentment I felt. My therapist helped me focus on the process rather than the outcome. We worked on strategies to manage my emotions, stay positive, and maintain confidence in my abilities, even when things weren’t going the way I wanted them to. This process wasn’t always easy, but it helped me build resilience that I continue to draw on today. If I could give advice to someone facing similar circumstances, it would be this: Focus on what you can control. Your effort, attitude, and how you respond to challenges are always within your control, even when the situation around you isn’t. Don’t let someone else’s perception of you dictate how you feel about yourself. Instead, set your own standards for success, and measure yourself by how well you meet those standards. Keep pushing, trust the process, and believe that your hard work will pay off in the end.

The path to a better future for Black people in business begins with unity and collaboration. Throughout history, Black communities have often struggled with internal competition and a lack of cohesive support, which has hindered collective progress. In contrast, other communities, such as Jewish communities, have demonstrated remarkable success by working together, pooling resources, and making strategic business decisions. As the world changes, we see progress within Black communities, with individuals and organizations taking steps towards unity and mutual support. My education and commitment to this cause will be pivotal in fostering this transformation. I have witnessed firsthand the challenges and fragmentation within Black communities. Too often, we compete with each other rather than work together towards common goals. This internal competition can dilute our collective power and impede our ability to build thriving businesses and strong economic foundations. However, by observing other thriving communities, such as the Jewish community, we can learn valuable lessons about the importance of unity and strategic collaboration. Jewish communities have long been recognized for their strong sense of unity and support for one another. They work together, share resources, and make informed decisions that benefit the community. This approach has enabled them to establish significant economic influence in New York City and New Jersey. By adopting a similar mindset, Black communities can build a more robust and interconnected business network that uplifts everyone involved. My higher education in business and economics will equip me with the knowledge and skills necessary to help facilitate this transformation. One of my primary goals is to promote collaborative initiatives within Black communities. We can dismantle the barriers that historically held us back by fostering a culture of mutual support and shared success. This involves organizing community forums, networking events, and business development workshops encouraging Black entrepreneurs to collaborate, share their experiences, and support each other’s ventures. Furthermore, education is crucial in empowering Black individuals to make informed business decisions. By providing access to quality education and mentorship programs, we can equip the next generation of Black entrepreneurs with the tools they need to succeed. This includes offering training in financial literacy, business management, and strategic planning. With a solid educational foundation, Black entrepreneurs can navigate the complexities of the business world and make choices that will benefit their businesses and communities. Another critical aspect of building a better path for Black people in the business world is fostering a sense of pride and ownership within our communities. By celebrating our successes and highlighting role models who have achieved significant milestones, we can inspire others to pursue their entrepreneurial dreams. This can be achieved through media campaigns, community awards, and public recognition of Black business leaders who have positively impacted. As the world changes, we see signs of progress within Black communities. More and more, Black entrepreneurs are coming together to support each other and build businesses that benefit the community. These baby steps indicate that we are moving in the right direction. By promoting unity, collaboration, and education, we can accelerate this progress and create a thriving network of Black-owned businesses that rival those of other successful communities. Ultimately, I aim to leverage my education to help build a better path for Black people in the business world. By fostering a culture of collaboration, providing access to quality education, and celebrating our successes, we can create a solid and interconnected network of Black businesses that uplift everyone involved. Together, we can overcome the challenges that historically held us back and build a brighter future for Black communities worldwide.

Domestic violence and substance abuse are critical issues that disproportionately affect African American women. These challenges are compounded by systemic inequities, cultural stigmatization, and barriers to accessing quality healthcare. My higher education journey is driven by a commitment to address these disparities and enhance the care, coordination, and communication that can ultimately change outcomes for African American women impacted by these issues. My mother’s work with the Division of Child Protection and Permanency (DCPP) has deeply influenced my perspective and commitment to this cause. Throughout her career, she worked tirelessly to protect children from various racial backgrounds who were affected by substance abuse and domestic violence. Her dedication extended beyond her professional duties; she established meaningful relationships with these children, offering them protection, hope, and support. Witnessing her impact has motivated me to pursue a path where I can make a similar difference. Higher social work and public health education equip me with the theoretical knowledge and practical skills to tackle these multifaceted problems. My academic focus allows me to understand the intricate interplay of social determinants of health, cultural factors, and systemic barriers that contribute to the prevalence of domestic violence and substance abuse among African American women. This comprehensive understanding is crucial for developing effective, targeted interventions. One of the primary ways I plan to utilize my education is by enhancing care coordination for African American women affected by these issues. Effective care coordination involves integrating services across healthcare providers, social workers, mental health professionals, and community organizations. By fostering collaboration among these stakeholders, we can create a seamless support network that addresses these women's physical, emotional, and social needs. For instance, multidisciplinary teams in healthcare settings can facilitate timely referrals and shared decision-making, ensuring continuous and holistic care. My education prepares me to design and implement integrated service delivery models, improving African American women's health outcomes and quality of life. Furthermore, I am dedicated to promoting culturally competent care practices. African American women often face discrimination and mistrust in healthcare settings, which can deter them from seeking help. My education in social work and public health includes training in cultural competence, allowing me to advocate for and implement practices that respect and understand the unique experiences of African American women. We can create more welcoming and effective care environments by educating healthcare providers about these women's challenges and cultural nuances. Additionally, involving African American women in their care planning and decision-making processes empowers them and ensures that care is tailored to their needs and preferences. Improving communication within the community is another critical aspect of my plan. Raising awareness and educating the community about domestic violence and substance abuse are essential steps in breaking the silence and reducing stigma. My higher education provides me the tools to develop and lead community-based initiatives, such as workshops, support groups, and public awareness campaigns. I can disseminate vital information about available resources, prevention strategies, and support networks by collaborating with community leaders, faith-based organizations, and local media. These efforts can help normalize seeking help and encourage more African American women to access the needed services.
