My life as a child was difficult, my biological father abandoned me and my sister when I was 3 and my sister was one. My mother did not work at the time and we did not have any money or family to help us. We moved 5 times within 5 years and did what we had to do to survive. My mother went back to school to get her Master's degree to become a teacher, which is what I want to be after college. We compromised vacations for trips to the zoo, playground and library since they were free. Overall we were a happy family and made the best out of a bad situation. Since I noticed my mother working so hard to be a good person, I too took on that role to be an outstanding daughter, sister and kind to everyone that I met. My actions in helping students with disabilities such as autism are just one example of how I am leaving a legacy in my community. I am constantly bullied by my classmates because I am different but I try to overlook their negative impact on the world by becoming a role model and being someone that I wish others to be. During the summer months, I volunteered my time at a summer camp for children aged 4-13. I feel that by giving back to society by donating my time, knowledge and abilities, I can make the world a better place by spreading kindness, love, and my gift of art. I know through perseverance that I too can accomplish anything that I set my mind to. I feel that I should be considered for a scholarship because I also have big dreams of helping people, especially young children to become whoever they want to be. We need more role models in our lives with strong values and beliefs, but most of all people who believe in us as my mother believes in me. I suffer from anxiety and depression and have been in therapy for numerous years. Through support and love I can say that I am now a proud part of the Salem State community. I was not sure if I would ever even attend college due to my disorders and low self-esteem. I would be honored to be considered for a scholarship. Thank you for your time and consideration.

Travel can be transformative in the way that you get to see things in a different way. Having exposure to different climates, cultures and communities teaches you how to adapt to various lifestyles and overcome challenges that you may be faced with. For example, if you travel to a place where there is no clean water for drinking, you have to adapt and learn how to obtain clean drinking water and how this could affect your daily living. I am used to adapting to what I have been handed to the best of my ability. My life as a child was difficult, my biological father abandoned me and my sister when I was 3 and my sister was one. My mother did not work at the time and we did not have any money or family to help us. We moved 5 times within 5 years and did what we had to do to survive.

I would pick my new favorite card, the sun card. I love how joyous it is, and how it is symbolic of what needs to be cleared up in life. I also like how cute the card is, and how it fills you with warmth and happiness, just like the sun in our sky. I was not sure if I would ever even attend college due to my disorders and low self-esteem. I would be honored to be considered for a scholarship. Thank you for your time and consideration.

During the summer months, I am volunteering my time at a summer camp for children aged 4-13. I feel that by giving back to society by donating my time, knowledge and abilities, I can make the world a better place by spreading kindness, love and my gift of art. I use technology to design my art daily on my Ipad, without technology I would not be able to create the beauty that my art brings. I know through perseverance that I too can accomplish anything that I set my mind to. I feel that I should be considered for a scholarship because I also have big dreams of helping people, especially young children to become whoever they want to be. Financially literate to me means, to financially responsible and being able to manage money. The best lesson that I received about being financially responsible came from my mother. My life as a child was difficult, my biological father abandoned me and my sister when I was 3 and my sister was one. My mother did not work at the time and we did not have any money or family to help us. We moved 5 times within 5 years and did what we had to do to survive. I am constantly bullied by my classmates because I am different but I try to overlook their negative impact on the world by becoming a role model and being someone that I wish others to be. During the summer months, before heading off to college, I worked three jobs. I banked all of the money from two jobs to pay for college and I am using my babysitting money to pay for miscellaneous expenses. My mother set up a bank account for me when I was little (about 10 years old) and even though my so-called father did not pay child support, we did receive money from him here and there. Whenever my mother received any money from him she put it into a savings account for me. We are now able to pay for the college together with my savings and my earnings. I could not be more proud of being able to pay for my own college. I know through perseverance that I too can accomplish anything that I set my mind to. I feel that I should be considered for a scholarship because I also have big dreams of helping people, especially young children to become whoever they want to be. Contrary to my low self-esteem, I feel that I have excelled in my education despite the obstacles that I have overcome and deserving of a DHS scholarship. I currently have a 3.75 GPA even though I have been diagnosed with multiple mental health disorders including major depression. My life as a child was difficult, my biological father abandoned me and my sister when I was 3 and my sister was one. My mother did not work at the time and we did not have any money or family to help us. We moved 5 times within 5 years and did what we had to do to survive. My mother went back to school to get her Master's degree to become a teacher, which is what I want to be after I graduate from college. As a family, we compromised on vacations for trips to the zoo, playground and library since they were free. A Dartmouth Public School teacher that influenced me the most is Mr. Bosworth. He was my computer science teacher at DHS. We still continue to be friends even though he is no longer my teacher. I attend an after-school group that he organizes. I am inspired by him because he makes me feel “normal”. He listens to me as a person, believes in me as a student and pushes me to do things out of my comfort zone. Mr. Bosworth asked me to present coding to rising eighth grades at DMS and DHS open house to the families who attended. Mr. Bosworth is a true inspiration, especially to the students that feel “less than” and are always left out due to their popularity status at school. I know through perseverance that I too can accomplish anything that I set my mind to. I feel that I should be considered for a scholarship because I also have big dreams of helping people, especially young children to become whoever they want to be. This is the main reason why it is so important to give back, you never know who you can help today and it may just save a life like mine was saved. I would be honored to be considered for a scholarship. Thank you for your time and consideration. ~Leigha Lyn Gippo

I feel that I have excelled in my education due to the obstacles that I have overcome. I choose to study at Salem State University because I am a Massachusetts resident and I do not want to be too far away from home but far enough that I can grow into adulthood and start my career journey. I have decided to attend Salem State because it is smaller in size and feels comfortable. I currently have a 3.75 GPA even though I have been diagnosed with multiple mental health disorders. During the summer months, I am volunteering my time at a summer camp for children aged 4-13. I feel that by giving back to society by donating my time, knowledge and abilities, I can make the world a better place by spreading kindness, love and my gift of art. Through support and love, I can say that I am now a proud part of the Salem State community. I was not sure if I would ever even attend college due to my disorders and low self-esteem. I would be honored to be considered for a scholarship. Thank you for your time and consideration.

Mr. Bosworth asked me to present coding to rising eighth grades at DMS and at DHS open house to the families who attended. The effects of a DUI are plentiful, none of which will serve you positively as a citizen. First, you will lose your license. As we know having a license is a privilege, not a right. Without a license you will not have the freedom that you do now, nor can you fulfill your responsibilities without having to burden someone else with a ride. Then you have to go through the court system and from there the judge will determine your sentencing. Depending on the circumstances it could be a fine, loss of a license for a set amount of time or jail. Overall the decision that you make to drink and drive can affect you for the rest of your life. This will go on your permanent record and stay with you throughout your life. In a few words, "It is just not worth the risk". I plan to stay responsible and avoid drinking and driving at all costs. The way to prevent a DUI is to simply not drive, to take an Uber or to assign someone to be a designated driver. Never feel pressured to drink alcohol, and if you go out alone choose not to drink alcohol. These points made could save your life, someone else's life, your career and your future.

Educating is not something I’m a stranger to, I’ve also taught code to children at Dartmouth Middle School. I adore working with children because I like to see growth. As someone with lots of younger children in my family, I have found my love of working with them can be combined with my love of art. I found art as a way to express my feelings in middle school, and I still do so during my high school career. I like to make art for my friends and teachers too, and I use art as a way to make others happy. I hope a career as an art teacher will be shortly for me, as I want to educate the youth and encourage them to be creative.

My life as a child was difficult, my biological father abandoned me and my sister when I was 3 and my sister was one. My mother did not work at the time and we did not have any money or family to help us. We moved 5 times within 5 years and did what we had to do to survive. My mother went back to school to get her Masters's degree to become a teacher, which is what I want to be after college. I suffer from anxiety and depression and have been in therapy for numerous years, through support and love I can say that I am now a proud part of the Salem State community. I was not sure if I would ever even attend college due to my disorders and low self-esteem. My goal as an artist is to educate and connect with the younger, upcoming generation of artists and creative minds. I hope to go to college for studio art and design with a minor in education, which I will then pursue a Master’s degree in so I can teach.Growing up I would teach my younger sister and cousins how to draw, and recently my toddler cousins how to mix colors with paints. The magic in the kids' eyes as they see what they can create and the pride in their smile, when they finish a piece, is what I hope to see for the rest of my career. The everyday world inspires me as an artist because there is so much beauty in the world filled with light, love and various colors. I feel inspired to use the world as my canvas while making it my interpretation. I suffer from anxiety and depression and art is my therapy, my way out to feel better about myself and my connection to the world. I am constantly bullied by my classmates because I am different but I try to overlook their negative impact on the world by becoming a role model and being someone that I wish others to be. I suffer from anxiety and depression and have been in therapy for numerous years, through support and love I can say that I am now a proud part of the Salem State community. I was not sure if I would ever even attend college due to my disorders and low self-esteem. I would be honored to be considered for a scholarship. Thank you for your time and consideration.

I feel that I have excelled in my education due to the obstacles that I have overcome. I currently have a 3.6 GPA even though I have been diagnosed with multiple disorders.

My life as a child was difficult, my biological father abandoned me and my sister when I was 3 and my sister was one. My mother did not work at the time and we did not have any money or family to help us. We moved 5 times within 5 years and did what we had to do to survive. John Traxler Theatre Scholarship
I feel that I have excelled in my education due to the obstacles that I have overcome. I am passionate about art and want to express myself through art as a career. As a child, I did musical theater from grade 3 until grade 8 and enjoyed it for many years. Until high school where I was not good enough for theater, I did not have the confidence to even try out and then COVID hit and there was no school, no theater only online classes which ended my passion and love for acting. My life as a child was difficult, my biological father abandoned me and my sister when I was 3 and my sister was one. My mother did not work at the time and we did not have any money or family to help us. We moved 5 times within 5 years and did what we had to do to survive. The everyday world inspires me as an artist because there is so much beauty in the world filled with light, love and various colors. I feel inspired to use the world as my canvas while making it my interpretation. When I am creating art I feel connected, happy and can be free to be myself, something that is difficult to do in my everyday world. I suffer from anxiety and depression and art is my therapy, my way out to feel better about myself and my connection to the world.

    Bold Self-Care Scholarship
Self care is very important in my life because it helps me to focus and remain calm when life gets difficult. My self care routine consists of doing things that I enjoy such as talking to my friends online, playing games, and creating art work. I enjoy talking time each and every day to do activities that I enjoy. When I enjoy myself I am able to deal with life’s hardships in a way that I can handle them. Self care has an enormous impact upon my life for without it I would not be happy and always stress out.
