Science Fiction Becomes Science Fact Scholarship
PUBG, Fortnite, Call of Duty and so many more online games have grown exponentially in popularity in the past few years. Everyone was stuck at home during the pandemic and had to find ways to entertain themselves at home. Online gaming can be addictive and a great way to pass time. Gaming has evolved quite a bit since my childhood where we all fought over designing a SIMS town. Now there is the ability to communicate with others and form real relationships.
Online gamers have been seen as recluses and people with no ambition. Since the pandemic I feel like people's opinions of others staying home has changed a bit. More people have realized they like being home and not having to going out to do things. I think it has become more acceptable to be at home and hanging out with gaming friends.
I think online gaming does count as real life social interaction. It is not face to face but you are working with other people to get a task done. The task might be slaying a monster but you are still having to communicate with others to get the task done. Online gaming might not be face to face interaction but the world is changing. More and more jobs are done online from the comfort of home. More meetings are video calls and people are more productive.
There are cons to online gaming. I know I've been sucked into my games and lost hours. It is very easy to ignore the real world and focus on the objectives on the computer screen. When you online game with people you know you already have a common interest with them. It makes forming a relationship easier. While that is extremally valuable it is important to be able to work with people who might not have the same interests as you. Interacting with others is a skill set that needs to be flexed regularly.
I do think online gaming is a phenomenon that is completely unique to itself. Gamers have been frowned upon in the past but have truly formed a large community that is supportive and thriving. It is a great career field for some and others it is an amazing stress relief. Great friendships have come out of raiding groups. There are stories of online gaming friends who have stayed life long friends. Gamers have discarded social norms but society is slowly accepting people's differences as well.
Learner Math Lover Scholarship
I've always been good at math. It makes sense in my brain and I see the problems like a puzzle. It does make my head hurt at times but overall I feel successful after finishing a tough problem.
Math just makes sense to me. The rules don't change and it is consistent. There is always a way to solve a problem, you might have to ruminate on it for a while and try different equations but there is an answer out there. The stability of math is reassuring in this turbulent time in the world.
I was a biology major and while I loved studying living things; everything is always changing. When I look back on my biology notes from high-school to my notes from college things had already changed. My notes from physics in high-school and college have not changed. The math in physics has stayed the same.
I love math for it's consistency and how a simple equation can help you solve complicated problems. I use it in my medical laboratory technician classes. Math helps diagnose patients, it can tell you if there is an issue with an electrolyte level that is critical to patients health.
Math is stable and can be both complicated and uncomplicated. It can be long equations or broken down into simple equations. Never the less, consistent
