Beverly J. Patterson Scholarship
My passion for nursing began with curiosity. I've always been interested in how medicine is always advancing, and the idea that I would be working somewhere where I can spend my life continuously learning while making a difference struck something in me. I realized early on that nursing isn't about your knowledge, it's about how you treat others around you. Knowing that my becoming a better person directly helps someone else is what motivates me.
During my clinical rotations in high school, I saw how much power a health worker has to change a patient's day completely. Growing up, I remember how scary hospitals felt, and then I realized that with the right person by my side, the fear goes away. That is why I want to become a Pediatric Nurse Practitioner. I want to be the right person for kids, where they feel comfortable, and the person who understands their needs even when they are too small or scared to tell me what's wrong.
What I hope to get out of my career is the chance to lead and grow, just like Beverly J. Patterson did. I want to gain experience so that one day I can help other aspiring nurses and open doors for them just like she did during her career. I want to see my patients smile and hear them laugh when they hear good news. More than anything, I want a career where I can build long-term relationships with families and be a reliable figure as they navigate their health. I want to make an impact by bringing care into neighborhoods that are overlooked. Right now, there are so many kids who don't have easy access to healthcare, and I want to be the person who changes that. I want to support families as they move from the delivery room to a world of pediatrics. By making sure every kid gets a healthy start, I am honoring all the work that OBGYN nurses do.
One specific area I am excited to impact is mental health awareness. I want to work closely with school systems to help identify early signs of mental health issues. By starting my journey now, I am committing myself to advocating for children and making sure they have a voice in the healthcare system. I believe that being healthy isn't just about your body, but your mind too. With this scholarship, not only will I honor Beverly J. Patterson, I will make sure that all children in my care feel seen and supported as they grow.
Evan James Vaillancourt Memorial Scholarship
In high school, I had a wonderful opportunity to participate in its medical program my sophomore year. It was the start of something I would grow to appreciate deeply. I was putting on scrubs and learning about anatomy, the heart, and caring for patients. My final year we got the chance to participate in hands-on clinical training while still being in high school. It was a turning point for me, it wasn't just a class it was my first real look at what it means to care for people at their most vulnerable moments. Shadowing various healthcare professionals brought me closer to nursing.
Starting clinicals so early required me to have a level of discipline I didn't know I had. Balancing academics with responsibilities as a healthcare worker meant I had to grow faster than my peers. I remember walking into a patients room realizing that I'm not just a high school student but I was a member of their care team. That realization changed everything for me, it made me realize that making a difference in my community starts with the person right across from me providing them with support and compassion when they need it most.
My experience in clinicals has shaped my future. I don't just want to be a nurse, I'm determined to become a Pediatric Nurse Practitioner. I've always felt a strong connection to working with children, and I want to be the person who makes a scary hospital feel less frightening for a child and their family. Children are special and resilient, they should have someone who understands their medical needs and their emotional needs and I am determined to be that person.
As a Nurse Practitioner, I plan to make a longing difference in my community by focusing on pediatric healthcare. I want to be in a position where I can provide high-level care and work closely with parents to ensure that their child grows up healthy. My goal is to be a provider families can trust, someone who sees them and not just their illness.
I know the opportunity I had in high school was truly one of a kind. That's why I'm not taking this opportunity for granted. I know the road to becoming a Nurse Practitioner is long and demanding. However, the motivation I felt during clinicals continues to stay with me. This scholarship would help me continue my education and move closer to serving the kids in my community. I am ready to go out into the world and make a difference.
Breanna Coleman Memorial Nursing Scholarship
WinnerNursing is a career that I'm passionate about because it allows me to help others in their most vulnerable times. I've always been intrigued with the medical field, nursing especially but it has grown over time, especially throughout my three-year dedication to the program. I participated in hands-on learning and clinical which changed my life. I realized that nursing isn't just a choice for me but a commitment to care for others and offer high quality care.
During my three years in the medical program, I learned responsibility, teamwork, and perseverance. The program challenged me to become better academically and personally, but it also helped in shaping the way I am today. My clinical experience were impactful because it allowed me to simulate what it would be like working in the real world. I worked directly with patients and observed healthcare professionals. Being able to see in real life how healthcare works helped patients with compassion and clear communication only strengthened my decision into pursuing a career in nursing.
Throughout clinicals, I discovered how meaningful small acts can mean to a patient. Whether it was maintaining clear and concise eye contact or helping patients feel more comfortable, I saw how drastically it changed the expression on their faces. I saw how nurses play a significant role into caring for their patients. These experiences only motivated me to continue working toward my dream. I'm forever grateful for opportunities my school has provided for me. In February 2025, I became BLS certified, it was such a small achievement to others but it was an important achievement in my healthcare journey. This certification helped me become more confident in emergency situations and helped me understand the responsibility that comes with caring for others. Throughout my final year of the medical program we were getting ready for our EKG Technician Exam. When I opened up the test results and saw a green bar that said "Pass" I almost screamed in excitement. I expanded my knowledge of cardiac care further preparing me for a future in nursing. These accomplishments reflect my persistent dedication to growing as a healthcare professional.
Giving back to my community is one of my main motivations for pursuing nursing. I want to be the epitome that others can rely on. I want to be someone who treats every individual with respect and compassion. I want to make sure every time someone walks in the door they appreciate everything and feel comfortable. In the future, I hope to work in an environment where I'm surrounded with people with the same goals and aspriations where I can promote health education, and advocate for quality care for all patients.
Receiving this scholarship would help me continue my education and move closer to achieving my dream of pursuing a career in nursing. As I'm coming to an end of my senior year in high school I will cherish all my experiences in clinicals, dedication to the medical program, and passion for helping others. I am committed to using my education to make a positive lasting effect all around the world.
