Bio

As a Native American and first-generation college student, I want to show my Native American Community that we can surpass the financial limits and fulfill our education. As an educated person, I want to improve the knowledge and access of Native American history within the education system. I want to represent my Native American community and my Indigenous culture through writing. I want to promote Indigenous stories because I do not want our knowledge of Indigenous culture to be lost forever. The only way I can improve it is to continue my education and surpass the limits. I am currently a volunteer Newsletter/Blog writer for the Global Health and Education Projects. I write two articles for each month promoting knowledge of health issues. I write about the financial limits that diverse people, including myself, do not receive health care. I am also a volunteer Newsletter/Blog writer at Her Nexx Chapter. I want to help voices and stories of diverse women. We all have a voice, and I want to continue to promote equality. I promote equality by writing about women’s success in breaking the glass ceiling within the workforce. I also focus on mental and physical knowledge on women’s health. “The creation of a single world comes from a huge number of fragments and chaos.” Quote from Hayao Miyazaki. I want to thank bold.org for helping students all over the world to succeed. I am thankful for your support!

I am the first of my family to graduate with a bachelor’s degree, and I had faced many challenges in my life. Challenges that help me be determined to succeed within the education system. As a Native American first-generation college student, I want to show my Native American Community that we can surpass the financial limits and fulfill our education. NSU helps me set up my long-term career goals. I want to continue gaining experiences through knowledge. I attended NSU for about four years and I believe continuing my master’s program at Oklahoma City University will help broaden my knowledge and experiences as not only a student, but as a future educator. My main goal is to continue to learn and educate myself on both the culture and leadership. I want to know more about the important aspects of diversity and to continue to become a better educator. I believe the master’s program will help me explore my path as both a leader and educator. I believe the nonprofit leadership master’s program will help me succeed in accomplishing my career as both a nonprofit leader and future executive director. Race and diversity are still the main topic within today’s society. It remains an issue among organizations that seem to promote diversity but remains unchanged. The lack of inclusion within organizations is promoting white privilege instead of promoting voices to be heard from diverse people of all cultures. The higher education system has an issue with expenses which limits people from accomplishing a degree due to financial limitations. Usually due to higher education being expensive, students end up dropping out or decide against enrollment. I am one of those students who continuously faces limitations including career possibilities and financial issues. Despite the limitations, I want my career within higher education and help students like me advance their education without limits. My specific area of concentration is nonprofit leadership, arts and culture. The reason why I chose this advanced degree is because of the experience I had in Japan. The week in Japan and teaching others about my indigenous culture and learning about the indigenous culture in Japan made me realize that I want to help others succeed and build a bridge between different cultures. The Ainu culture in Japan continues to face challenges, like the Indigenous people in America, which is the challenge bring back our language and ancestral knowledge. The trip made me realize that I am a leader, and I want to be part of the positive change that promotes diversity and inclusion within the education system.

NSU helps me set up my long-term career goals. I want to continue gaining experiences through knowledge. I attended NSU for about four years and I believe continuing my master’s program at Oklahoma City University will help broaden my knowledge and experiences as not only a student, but as a future educator. As an educated person, I want to improve the knowledge and access of Native American history within the education system. I notice the lack of diversity in the many genres of literature, especially Native Americans. I want to represent my Native American community and my Indigenous culture through writing. I want to promote Indigenous stories, because I do not want our knowledge of Indigenous culture to be lost forever. The only way I can improve it, is to continue my own education and surpass the limits. I had written essays and done research to enhance my knowledge and writing skills. I had always enjoyed writing and I love to help others succeed in improving their writing skills. In the Fall 2020 semester, I was part of the editorial team for The Talon Journal. I enjoyed the experiences of helping writers from our community and college succeed in publishing their work.

The United States has been heavily influenced by European traditions and beliefs. One belief being that men are the rulers of the household and the leaders of society. Well, that is slowly changing. It is progressing within my tribe, which is the Chickasaw Nation. My tribe was heavily influenced by European identities, beliefs, and traditions. We are losing our language and stories because our ancestors were forced into colonization. Our elders had been pushed into boarding schools when they were children, to, unfortunately, erase their Native American identity. What has not been lost is our heritage and knowledge of our culture. I did some research and found out that my tribe is a matriarchal society instead of a patriarchal one. I learned from the Chickasaw Nation that women oversee the household instead of the men. I’ve noticed this in the past and currently see it in my family. It seems to be imbedded in my family’s mindset. It is true when a child is born, it is up to the mother to teach him or her the way of life instead of the father. The Chickasaw women are both equal and as powerful as the men. Women are the battle strategists and also went into battle with the men. My tribe believes that a powerful man and woman create balance. The women who are in the battle and are also battle strategists are called Panther Women. They are the heroines on the battlefield and act as the battle communicators. Women remain in positions of both power and respect. Within the Chickasaw Nation, a variety of different clans are descended from the generations of women. For example, my family is the Wolf Clan, which came down from my grandma’s side of the family. It is then transferred to my mom, me, and then my sister. The Chickasaw Nation is not the only tribe that is a matriarchal society. All of the five civilized tribes have women in leadership roles, in a position of power, and remain equal to men. The women mostly own the property and leadership status. It remains true within my tribe. Every year, there is a conference that celebrates the status of women in leadership and their accomplishments in their roles. In the past year, more women were voted to be legislators for the Chickasaw Nation. Fortunately, the traditional matriarchal society remains in the Chickasaw Nation whose female leaders deserve much respect.

There are many qualities in a leader. It depends on what kind of leader. Thinking back, it is the people that has motivation and inspiration. A leader listens and reflects, even willing to work within their team without hesitation. Leadership is both an art and a science. Leadership requires a balance of emotional intelligence and logical thinking. Within an organization, the leader is in charge, which involves the willingness to use critical thinking skills to solve complicated problems and fulfill daily projects. The person must use cognitive skills to manage the team and be able to handle multiple deadlines. The leader’s responsibility is connecting and motivating their team's skillsets for the best of the organization. People have different skill sets and educational backgrounds that could help the nonprofit organization flourish. My main goal is to continue to learn and educate myself and to lead others to a better future for a diverse culture. Race and diversity are still the main topics within today’s society. It remains an issue among organizations that promote diversity but remain unchanged. The lack of inclusion within organizations is to promote white privilege instead of promoting voices from diverse people of all cultures. I believe empathy and open mindedness is key to being a leader, I will be focusing on promoting diversity and inclusion within the workforce. My way of leading my fellow employees is to empower them in their success with respect and knowledge. Indigenous culture and history are still rebuilding and healing from generations of colonization within America. Eloise Cobell is one of many Indigenous leaders who continue to fight for their Native American rights, history, and culture. Indigenous leaders like Eloise Cobell will dare to empower her people. She is what motivates me to continue my education and to become the leader that people need instead of follow. Trials and errors of leadership require constant research and the willingness to continue the fight for diverse voices.  What makes Eloise Cobell’s story so inspirational is overcoming barriers of ignorance by using the power of knowledge and motivation. Her inspiration and motivation helped young leaders in continuing to break the cycle of mistreatment of Indigenous people. Leadership is continuously a way of mistreating others and using fear rather than respect for other to follow. change the perception to more of "we" instead of "I." start to feel more empathy for others no matter what their job status is and treat others with respect.

My mom had always been the person who financially supported my sister and me. She always taught me to never give up on myself, even when the world seems out to get me. She taught me that my voice matters and have courage toward the goals I set out for myself. My mom's love is why I continue my education and learn to love myself. She always believes in me and the choices that I make for myself. I am the first person in my family to continue my higher education. It was all because of my mom's positive influence. I am forever thankful for her encouragement, support, and belief in me. The challenges I faced is due to my gender and my diversity. I am facing these challenges of both gender and diverse inequality promoted me to part of both international organizations. I am part of the Global Health and Education Projects. It is an organization the promotes equal health care all over the world. I currently a volunteer Newsletter/Blog writer for the organization. I write two articles for each month promoting knowledge of certain health issues and the financial limits that diverse people including myself are unable to receive health care. The second organization called Her Nexx Chapter. It is an international organization promoting support for women who are facing challenges due to their gender. I am also a volunteer Newsletter/Blog writer for the organization. I want to also help all women voices and stories. We all have a voice and I want to continue to promote equality. I promote equality by writing about women’s success in breaking the glass ceiling within the work force. I also focus on mental and physical knowledge on women’s health. I help both organizations in summarizing publishing articles on their websites and I also create spread sheets for schedules, even events. I want to use my writing to help promote knowledge of the issues that are not well known. I want to promote equality not just from my voice, but my writing can reach out to people who face inequality. Another woman who influence was My role model Nina Smith. I enrolled in her English classes every semester when I have the chance. She taught me that a woman could accomplish anything and break the glass ceiling. A woman can fulfill her education; she does not need a man to control her life. She gave me hope to continue to write and believe in myself. She showed me kindness and a bright future for myself. Unfortunately, she had passed away before I could tell her; how grateful I am for her support; and her encouragement to continue my education. She gave me hope to overcome obstacles and my harsh life. How I applied these lessons to achieve my goals is to continue my education. It is her tremendous influence in my life; that is the reason I am close to graduating. I exercise, meditate, I had recently helped the College's journal be published. I even continue to submit my short stories to different journals. I will enroll for my master's degree. I will continue to pay for my courses, and my education is to be able to accomplish my dream career. I will edit the writer's works and help them publish their creative work.

As a future leader, there are quite a few things that I will need to grow my organization from the ground up. It involves connections to people with specific talents, such as marketing, social media, finances, and sponsorships. Some things are in need within nonprofit organizations that they seem to lack. Nonprofit organizations do not request small donations. They ask for large donations instead. Most organizations only use marketing for large, funded donors. It leaves out the majority of the opportunity for small, donated funds. A nonprofit organization must continuously update its website for easier access for volunteers or donors. I have written essays and researched to enhance my knowledge and writing skills. I have always enjoyed writing, and I love to help others succeed in improving their writing skills. A land where I dream to visit ever since I was a child. It was a dream that I thought that it was untouchable and unreachable. A dream that cannot become reality. As many other Americans our knowledge of Japan and the people is mainly from the media. Popular media such as kaiju films, anime, and the unrealistic idealization that Japan is stuck in history. This idealization of Japanese people promotes stereotyping and racism, the unhealthy belief gained by false information. It is because of the experiences and interactions in Japan, and I met such wonderful people and it open my mind, showing how much I was hidden in the dark. I was so hidden in the dark, that my knowledge was overshadowed by flawed expectations. Expectations from false information from brief history books and the media. I grew to love the knowledge and culture as I get to know Japan and the people. I even learned their is indigenous people that exist in Japan that are just as similar as my own indigenous culture. They face daily challenges with their identity and history being at risk to be erased. I understand this issue since I face these challenges myself. I become more empathetic toward the people of Japan, as an Native American woman, I had previously and continued to face racism, stereotyping, and the miss information of my indigenous culture. I learned that in the city of Hokkiado and Tokyo, they are just cities where people work daily and go outside to take a breath of fresh air. I really got to see the daily life of a family in Japan as well. A bond was created despite the language and culture barriers, the host family reminded me of my own. Full of laughter, comfort, and kindness. I believe America has a lot to learn from Japan. To change the perception to more of “we” instead of “I.” To start to feel more empathy for others no matter what their job status is, and treat others with respect. I even gained a pin pal, who I remain in contact through email. Every night while in Tokyo or Hokkaido, I go beyond my comfort zone as an foreigner, and go into shops, and buy souvenirs. It helps me understand the language barrier and how I rely on my observation and assumptions in order to interact with an cashier. It is quite nerve wracking and uncomfortable but I believe despite how uncomfortable it is, it helped me understand what it is like to only be the small percentage in a foreign land, that speaks a different language. These small journeys every night, makes me feel empathy toward the people that come to the United States, feeling nervous and uncertain in a foreign land. In conclusion, despite the language barrier and the constant misunderstandings, I was faced with understanding and compassion in Japan. I felt so welcomed and I am forever thankful to all the people that took myself and others on this journey, to create a bond between Japan and America. I will continue to remember this beautiful experience for the rest of my life.

My main goal is to continue to learn and educate myself on both the English language and writing. I want to know more about the important aspects of the English language and to continue to become a better writer. I believe the masters program will help me explore my path as both a reader and writer. I believe the English masters program will help me succeed in accomplishing my career as both a writer and researcher. Failure helps me grow into a better person and I learn from it. My career goals have not come yet, but I know it would take many lessons and steps to get there. That is why patience is a virtue. I no longer worry about the future. I set up small daily goals to achieve my career goal. Such as daily reading, writing, and daily volunteer work to enhance my experience. It is up to me how I take in my daily experiences in life. It is up to me how to shape that reality and gain something from it. I am the critic of my mind and body. I learn that education is not just a physical presence such as the campus itself but a constant urge to learn and motivate myself. It is also my responsibility to not give up on educating myself. My mother is the person who has driven me to keep on trying and never giving up. She works so hard to financially support my sister and me for the two of us to continue to go to school. She had taught me as a young child to continue my education. My education is a big part of my life. I understand that I have a fear of failure in the back of my mind, hovering over my head like a dark cloud waiting to pour streams of water on to me. Failure is quite a relatable fear in today's world. I am the only person who can face this fear and realize that I should believe in myself. Believe that I will succeed and become a strong and observant woman. The failures that I face will shape who I am and teach myself on how to trust myself. Failure is a teacher, not something to fear. It is up to me as the critic to not give up and listen to the positive thoughts. As the critic, I must fix the mental errors I falsely created for myself and grow from the experiences I encounter in life. My experiences, both tragic and fulfilling, continue to help me grow as a woman of wisdom. The wisdom that helps me continue to embrace both my weaknesses and strengths. I see every experience in my life as a trial that I must succeed in and overcome my failures. Life is a struggle as a person who continues to go through life; I conquer my struggles and survive with my head held high. I am thankful for my past trials. I am ready to experience more ahead of me.

The mind and body are a connection to our health: A connection that is important to balance out simply by being aware of what is healthy for both your mind and your body. International Mind-Body Wellness Day took place on January 3, 2022, but isn’t mind and body wellness something we should recognize every day? The mind is basically your mental being or mental health. Mental health affects your physical health; similarly, your physical health can impact your mental health. There are ways I give my mind and body what they need, such as exercising, hobbies, and nutrients. Exercising helps release the feel-good hormone, dopamine, in your body. It helps in reducing stress and in getting a good night’s sleep. I do Zumba exercises that help both my mind and body. Since I suffer from anxiety, and I have a history of emotional eating, this is the best exercise for me to reduce my anxiety and give me the motivation to be creative. There are all sorts of different exercises, you just must pick the right one that you think is best for you and discover how much it gives you the motivation to feel happy and energized. Since it is the new year, I personally do not believe in false advertisements that give you the advice to have the “perfect” body. You determine what is best for your health and see what helps you find that motivation. Physical health and mental health have the same needs, and no one knows what is best for your mind and body except you. Love yourself and the body that you were born in.

I believe that art is expressing emotions, thoughts, and beliefs. Art transports you to another realm, a realm of possibilities. Art gives us access to express our freedom without the interruption of ignorance or hatred. I will impact the world with my art by creating something that speaks to people in the realm of possibilities within their mind's eyes. I express myself through my art. My art is the beauty of fantastical celestial beings from many cultures. In my perception, everyone is an artist. My art is hidden messages of what is wrong with modern society and how culture is a part of ourselves whatever we go. I live in a bible belt, where I cannot reveal my paganism belief, so I express all the diverse celestial beings from all over the world through art. Spiritualism comes in many forms. We must understand that there are many religions and be respectful and open-minded.

The person I admire most of all is Frida Kahlo. She is a radical woman of her time. She never feared expressing herself in surrealistic art that many people find disturbing. I find her artistic expression beyond her time and a gateway to her mind's eye. I get to see how mental illness is constant in her mind. She is a woman who went through many tragedies in her life, and she still manages to stay courageous and strong. I will forever remember her as an idol for artistic expression, mental health awareness, and equal rights for women.
    Bold Financial Freedom Scholarship
The financial advice I had received from my mom. My mom had to raise my sister and me by herself, which she is more likely to deal with financial hardships. She told me to save every dime, nickel, and penny. I am still doing till this very day, every penny I find, I save it in a jar. My mom grew up poor, and it is the only thing she kept in mind. She understands that my sister and I will grow in a world where we will not have equal opportunities, so we work harder. I keep three jars of pennies in my room. Just because a penny is only one cent does not mean it will give you the possibility of reaching your dream vacation one day. When I was a teenager, we were so deep in financial hardships that we could not buy food. We decided to use every penny we saved to get McDonald's meals. It was the best day of our lives because we had learned to appreciate the small things in life, even a penny.
    Bold Motivation Scholarship
I used to struggle with motivation. For most of my life, I had lacked motivation. I had dealt with low self-esteem most of my life. I had the belief that I could not be financially able to continue my education. For most of my childhood and teen years, adults doubted my possibility of attending college. The adults did not believe in my future of education. The adults were most of my teachers in my school years, but my mom and sister were the people that helped awaken a light of motivation inside me. My belief in myself is what motivates me to continue my education. It is also all the people that supported me and believed in my path to receive an education.
    Bold Best Skills Scholarship
My best skill is writing. Writing has always been the one skill I refuse to give up. It started when I was in my preteens, which inspired me to write by continuously reading fantasy and horror books. I used to be afraid to have other people read my written work, but then I realized that is writers improve their written skills. As a writer, I admire the written work that it blinds me from seeing the issues, and I usually never notice grammatical errors, transitioning errors, or run-on sentences. I learned the importance of having an extra pair of eyes to help me improve my writing. I learned how to become my version as an editor and proofreader to help improve my written skills. I give people the chance to read my story, such as my professor, classmates, or a publishing business read over my written work. I learn to overcome my fear of others critiquing my work as I become the reviewer of my written work.

She always believes in me and the choices that I make for myself. I am the first person in my family to continue my higher education. It was all because of my mom's positive influence. I am forever thankful for her encouragement, support, and belief in me.

As the critic, I must fix the mental errors I falsely created for myself and grow from the experiences I encounter in life. My experiences, both tragic and fulfilling, continue to help me grow as a woman of wisdom. The wisdom that helps me continue to embrace both my weaknesses and strengths. I did some research that mental illness is common in the United States. More than 50% of Americans will be diagnosed with a mental illness or a disorder during their lifetime. (Centers for Disease Control and Prevention) One out of five Americans unfortunately will experience mental illness in the given year. (CDC) Children will also experience mental illness as well. One out of five children either currently or at some point in their life have been suffering a severe mental illness issue. (CDC) Also 1 out of 25 Americans suffers and lives with serious mental illness. (CDC) There are many things that cause mental illness. Such as early childhood abuse, trauma, abuse, sexual assault, and witnessing violence. (CDC) It is also caused by ongoing medical issues such as cancer or diabetes. (CDC) There are also biological issues that cause mental illness such as genes and chemical imbalance in the brain. (CDC) It affects people on how they cope with it or the environment that surrounds them, such as alcohol, drugs, having a few friends, feeling of loneliness, and feeling of isolation. (CDC) There are ways to cope and manage such as therapy, a healthy diet, medication, behavioral therapy, physical activity, and a good night’s rest. (CDC) I personally had been suffering anxiety ever since I was a young child. I slowly had to learn ways to cope with my mental illness. I meditate daily to calm myself. Bold Talent Scholarship
My weakness in my writing skills is mostly grammar and punctuation. It is because I hardly notice the errors as I continue to enjoy my writing and I usually have to go to a tutor to make sure my grammar and punctuation is correct on my essay assignments. I also think what is similar in many writers is trying not to write in past tense instead they must always write in present tense. My strengths in writing is small descriptions and leading the readers to their own five senses of imagery from the story. Where I can use my imagination and create the characters from my mind. I even make sure to have a small glimpse in my writing of certain characters past and tragedies. It also helps when I read a book and it is how I get my ideas on how the scenes are developing in the story. The most important thing is to show the flaws and imperfections of the characters. My weaknesses when it comes to criticism is pointing different ideas and how I should write differently in my story. When a fellow classmate reads my work and points out the flaws even the lack of description. I had been told that I must write for the readers and their opinions on my story. That it is up to me as a writer to rely on the reader’s opinions and responses on my works. That I have to dwell on what other people think of my work instead of my own thoughts.

I love my determination, creativity, and wisdom. The reason why is because without these three characteristics, I will be unable to educate myself and give up on myself on receiving an education. As a woman of color, I had to handle the many disadvantages through out my life. I faced inequality because of the color of my skin or my gender. Have you heard of the story spider gets fire? It is a Chickasaw story, it starts when the world was cold and dark. The people relied on the strongest warriors to fetch the fire, but all these "great" male warriors failed. Grandmother spider was no warrior. She was small and a woman. The people were wrong to judge her by the way she looks. She used her wisdom, determination, and creativity to fetch the fire. She brought it back to her people. This story continues to give me inspiration to continue to follow my path.

What I enjoy doing most of all is writing and reading. I believe they are the most important thing to learn before any other subjects. I love to write short stories during my free time, short stories that promotes diversity and the LGBTQ+ community. I even love to read other people's written works. Growing up, reading taught how to feel empathy toward others and to have an open mind. I had the chance to read and review many of them in my Spring semester 2020 in college. I work with part of the editorial team to both read and review all the written submissions that we received, I absolutely enjoyed working with the other editors, and reading such talented works. It is journal that the college publishes once a year called The Talon. We open it to all the authors and artists within our community. This experience had taught to feel empathy and to be thankful to all the editors that work so hard. What I want to gain from this volunteer experience is to mainly help others succeed. I also want to experience being part of the editorial team again. I want to also help all women to be heard. We all have a voice and I want to continue to promote equality

As a Native American, my heritage and beliefs had always been balance and harmony with the Earth. There had been many tragedies and failures in my life, but I always choose to learn from them. Failure helps me grow into a better person and learn from it. My career goals have not come yet, but I know it would take many lessons and steps to get there. That is why patience is a virtue. I no longer worry about the future. I set up small daily goals to achieve my career goal. Such as daily reading, writing, and daily volunteer work to enhance my experience. I want to have an editing career and finally publish my novels. My daily daydreams and imagination are what helps me continue to go to college. Imagining; is the main point of my skills and creating my path to follow. I do not allow strangers or my loved ones to influence my choices. It is only me who shapes my reality. Reality is different from many people's point of view. I use to see my failures as a weakness, but as I continue my new health style, I see my failures as my strengths. It is up to me how I take in my daily experiences in life. It is up to me how to shape that reality and gain something from it. I am the critic of my mind and body. It is up to me as the critic to not give up and listen to the positive thoughts. As the critic, I must fix the mental errors I falsely created for myself and grow from the experiences I encounter in life. My experiences both, tragic and fulfilling, continues to help me grow as a woman of wisdom. The wisdom that helps me continue to embrace both my weaknesses and strengths. I see every experience in my life as trials that I must succeed and overcome, with my strength. I remember when I grew up, I had felt different somehow. I felt odd and strange from the others. I could not find a commonality from the rest of the children, so I spend most of my days in the library, reading a book. Even among acquaintances and classmates, I could not connect to them or be close. I grew up in a small town where Christianity and gender stereotypes are normal. I had always felt comfortable around my classmates because I could not risk revealing my Wiccan spiritualism. I felt lonely and misunderstood. It is because, during my teen years, I do not feel attracted toward men or women. I never felt the urge to date people of either sex. I did not find out what my sexuality is until my freshman year in college. I was able to grow. I love myself because I have people who support my sexual identity, which is an aromantic asexual. The only urge I have in my life is to have friends I can trust. I will make a difference to write stories with a positive LGBTQ+ hero or heroine. The positive LGBTQ+ characters will embrace their sexual identity. I believe it would be a positive influence on children and young adults.

My anxiety has gotten worse after 2019 as hate crimes progressively gotten worse. I grew more fearful of encountering strangers as I walk downtown. It grew even worse as the covid cases rise and had none of the usual distractions to stop reflecting on my thoughts. I am in tears every time I had to call someone. I had recently resort to seeking professional help. I began to see a psychiatrist and put myself on medication. As the months progress, the negative thoughts stopped, I had no more crying fits, and I do not fear the world anymore. I began to shape my goals, starting with small personal ones. I start to exercise daily and do daily meditation. I changed into a healthy diet, and I apply for online part editorial jobs or volunteer work. My mom, who has supported me in my dark times, I become a more talkative person. I was able to communicate with people on the phone and including my friends. I began to understand the world around me. That life is precious, and many opportunities and adventures are waiting for me to accomplish. My inner world is at peace, and it reflects the outer world with joy and enlightenment.

My favorite film is Hayao Miyazaki's Howl's, Moving Castle; I love the artistic details and admire the animated graphics within the film. I grow up watching Ghibli and Miyazaki films. It is a part of my childhood, and I relate to the main character. I use to believe I was a dull and talented less person. Sophie Hatter reminds me so much of myself during my teens, and I love the lesson that she learns. When we are young, we wish to grow old. The one person that was kind to me, her name was Cecilia. Two years ago, before I graduated from community college, I was mentally struggling with my thoughts and feelings. I did not have any friends during my community college years. I dealt with negative thoughts about myself. I thought I was a lonely person who fails in life and my courses. I was suffering from anxiety and depression. I was failing my Algebra course. Growing, up I had always learned differently from others. I suffered from low self-esteem issues due to the way I learn differently in my courses. I was unable to socialize because of my low self-confidence. I never dared to communicate with others. I always overthink the negative possibilities and future events. One day, when I was sitting by the coffee shop, Cecilia sits in front of me. She has to bring her walker due to her disability. She did the one kind thing that I never expected from anyone she talked to me. She introduced herself, and I suddenly felt calm by her presence. I never thought I would be comfortable for someone to speak to me. Then I suddenly find myself responding to her life stories. I did not notice that hours had passed. She told me her whole life story and why suddenly she choose to go back to college. I listened to all the struggles she had gone through in her life and how she continues to move forward. After her whole life story, she stands up using her walker. She kindly looked at me, and she said thank you for listening to me, and I told her, thank you for talking to me. She left to go to class. I am joyful to hear her speak. I had not seen her until the next year I saw a picture of her on Facebook. It was a memorial to her. The day after she graduated, she had passed away. I will never forget the first person that showed such kindness. She gave me hope for my future and to have faith in myself. I accepted that failure is a teachable moment for me. I will continue to honor Cecilia and what she had accomplished. She taught me that there are no limits on what a person can do. The best way to handle such tragedies and failures is to keep moving forward.

How I can build mutual understanding; is to continue to learn the culture and show respect toward their culture. Education is not just a degree but showing compassion and willingness to learn from others. Being a good human is to be open-minded and to know that the world is full of diverse languages and cultures. I will use my creative writing skills to create poetry to read out loud to poetry events. Poetry is not just for imagination, but it brings people together using empathy. Stories and poetry come from different countries, but one thing they teach people is kindness. It is important to feel empathy; for all different cultures. My project goals are to share my experience and information with my classmates, club organizations, and my Native American Community. My target audience is the students. Yifan Zhu "Late Night" Scholarship
My outside experiences are from life lessons and healthy hobbies. My healthy lifestyle contributes to my college education by enhancing my communication and knowledge skills. I eat healthy foods daily and do daily exercises, and to also help my thinking skills. I learn that education is not just a physical presence such as the campus itself, but a constant urge to learn and motivate myself. It is also my responsibility is to not give up on educating myself. My mom has always told me that it is important to her for me to have an education. My loved ones fully support me, and I have a calming environment with my rescued cats to keep me company. A lifestyle choice is what shapes my future and knowledge. Daily meditation helps me relax and enhance my creativity. It does not only enhances my creativity but understanding that failure is a part of life and success. Life is a struggle as a person who continues to go through life; I conquer my struggles and survive with my head held high. I am thankful for my past trials. I am ready to experience more ahead of me.
