One of the most significant challenges I have faced in my life has been living with an autoimmune disease called ITP (Immune Thrombocytopenia). I was diagnosed at a very young age, and from that point on, my life began to look different from those around me. As a twin, that difference felt even more noticeable. While my sibling could participate freely in everyday childhood experiences, I had to navigate a world shaped by medical uncertainty, restrictions, and constant awareness of my health. Some of my earliest memories are not of typical childhood milestones, but of hospital visits and medical procedures. At just five years old, I underwent a bone marrow biopsy—an experience that was both frightening and defining. Throughout my early years, I had multiple four-day hospital stays, each one disrupting the normal rhythm of childhood. While other kids focused on school and play, I was learning how to cope with being in a hospital and facing the unknown. My condition affected my ability to participate in everyday activities. In pre-kindergarten and kindergarten, I was not allowed to join recess or gym due to the risk of injury and bleeding. At an age when friendships are built through play, I often had to sit on the sidelines. That separation extended beyond school. There were times I wasn’t included in birthday parties because others were unsure of how to handle my condition. Even when I could attend events, I sometimes had to leave early due to symptoms, which was frustrating as a child who just wanted to feel “normal.” ITP also impacted my family. Every vacation or outing had to be carefully planned around my health, energy levels, and access to medical care. My family made constant adjustments to ensure my safety, often putting my needs first. While I’m deeply grateful for their support, I became aware at a young age of how my condition affected those around me. That awareness strengthened my sense of responsibility and appreciation for others. One of the most difficult periods came when I was placed on steroids in kindergarten. While necessary, the treatment caused side effects like weight gain and intense mood swings. At that age, I didn’t fully understand why I felt different, only that it made social interactions and self-confidence more challenging. Looking back, I recognize the strength it took to navigate those emotions without fully understanding them. Despite these challenges, living with ITP has shaped me into a resilient and determined person. I’ve learned to adapt, handle uncertainty, and keep moving forward even when things feel overwhelming. I understand that resilience isn’t about avoiding hardship, but about facing it and continuing on. Managing a chronic illness has also taught me discipline and self-awareness—skills that carry into my academic life, where I stay focused and committed even when circumstances are difficult. Most importantly, my experience has shaped my perspective. I’ve learned to appreciate moments others may take for granted and developed a strong sense of empathy. Having faced exclusion and invisible challenges, I’m more aware of what others might be going through. While ITP has presented obstacles, it has also given me strength, gratitude, and determination. Being the only twin with this disorder has shown me that even similar beginnings can lead to very different paths. My journey hasn’t been easy, but it has made me who I am today—someone who understands resilience through experience and is committed to turning challenges into growth.

I am writing to explain how my personal interests have shaped my desire to pursue a career in collision repair and refinishing. While my hobbies may seem diverse at first glance, they all share a common thread: creativity, attention to detail, and a strong passion for building, modifying, and restoring things. Over time, I have realized that these interests are not separate from my career goals—they are the foundation of them. My interest in video games has played a significant role in developing my problem-solving skills and patience. Many games require careful strategy, precision, and persistence, often pushing players to think critically under pressure and adapt when things don’t go as planned. These same qualities are essential in collision repair, where diagnosing damage and determining the best method for restoration requires both technical thinking and perseverance. Video games have taught me not to give up when something is challenging, but instead to approach problems from different angles until I find a solution. Similarly, my passion for music, especially playing the bass, has taught me discipline, rhythm, and consistency. Learning an instrument takes time, repetition, and attention to even the smallest details. A slight mistake in timing or tone can change the entire sound, just as a small imperfection in refinishing can affect the overall quality of a vehicle’s appearance. Through music, I have learned the importance of practice and precision, both of which are critical in achieving a professional-level finish in automotive work. I am also deeply interested in Dungeons & Dragons, which has helped me develop creativity, imagination, and adaptability. Whether I am building a character or navigating complex storylines, I am constantly thinking critically and making decisions based on changing situations. This experience has strengthened my ability to think outside the box—an important skill in collision repair, where no two projects are exactly the same and each repair requires a unique approach. My involvement in ceramics and art has further strengthened my appreciation for craftsmanship and design. Working with my hands has taught me the value of precision, patience, and technique. Creating something from raw materials and refining it into a finished product is incredibly rewarding, and I see a direct connection between that process and restoring a damaged vehicle. In both cases, success depends on attention to detail and a commitment to quality. Additionally, my interest in motorcycles and vehicle modification reflects my passion for automotive work. I am fascinated by how vehicles function, as well as how they can be customized and improved both mechanically and visually. This curiosity motivates me to continue learning and expanding my skills, and it aligns directly with the work involved in collision repair and refinishing. Overall, my hobbies have helped me develop a strong foundation of creativity, technical skill, and dedication. They have shaped not only my interests but also my mindset and work ethic. I am eager to apply these qualities to a career where I can work hands-on, solve problems, and bring damaged vehicles back to life. Pursuing collision repair and refinishing is not just a career choice for me—it is a natural extension of the interests and skills I have been building over time. Thank you for your time and consideration. Sincerely, Luke Jordan

My name is Luke Jordan, and I am currently a senior at Grand Blanc Community High School. As I prepare to take the next step in my education, I reflect on the experiences that have shaped who I am-both in the classroom and beyond. My journey has been defined by curiosity, creativity, and perseverance, all of which continue to guide my goal for the future. One of the most impactful parts of my high school experience has been my two years in Auto Tech. I have always enjoyed learning how things work, and Auto Tech gave me the opportunity to turn that curiosity into hands-on skills. Working on vehicles taught me problem-solving, patience, and attention to detail. It showed me the value of applying knowledge in real-life situations and confirmed my interest in pursuing a path where I can work with my hands and continue learning through experience. In addition to my technical interests, I have also found a strong sense of community through extracurricular activities. As a member of the E-Sports, I have developed teamwork, communication, and strategic thinking skills. Similarly, being part of the Dungeons and Dragons team has allowed me to express my creativity and collaborate with others through storytelling and imagination. These activities have helped me grow socially and mentally, teaching me how to work effectively with different types of people while also embracing my own creativity. I enjoy a wide variety of things such as music, creative writing, and math. These interests reflect different sides of who I am—creative, analytical, and curious. Whether I am writing a story, solving a problem, or exploring how something functions, I find fulfillment in learning and creating. I believe this balance between creativity and logic will continue to benefit me in my future education and career. One interesting thing about me is that I am a twin, which has given me a unique perspective on identity and individuality. Growing up alongside someone so similar to me has taught me the importance of independence while also valuing close relationships. It has helped shape my understanding of teamwork, empathy, and personal growth. One of the most significant challenges I have faced is living with an autoimmune disease called ITP. This condition has required me to be mindful of my health and has, at times, created obstacles in my daily life. However, it has also strengthened my resilience and determination. Managing ITP has taught me how to adapt to unexpected changes, and maintain a positive outlook even during difficult times. Rather than holding me back, it has motivated me to make the most of every opportunity I have. Receiving this scholarship would be an important step in helping me pursue my goals. It would ease the financial burden of continuing my education and allow me to focus on developing my skills and knowledge. I am committed to working hard, continuing to grow, and using what I learn to build a meaningful and productive future. I am determined to take everything I have learned; from Auto Tech to creative expression to overcoming personal challenges, and use it to succeed in the next chapter of my life. With dedication and perseverance, I am confident that I can achieve my goals and make a positive impact in whatever path I choose.

Education has been more than just a requirement or a stepping stone toward a career for me—it has been the force that gave my life direction when I needed it most. My name is Luke Jordan, and as a senior at Grand Blanc High School in Grand Blanc, Michigan, I have come to understand that education is not only about what you learn in the classroom, but also about how those experiences shape your identity, resilience, and future goals. Growing up as a twin has always been a defining part of my life. It has taught me both independence and collaboration, as I learned how to develop my own identity while sharing a close bond with someone who has been by my side since the beginning. This experience has influenced how I approach school and relationships—I value teamwork, but I also understand the importance of taking responsibility for my own growth. Throughout high school, I have worked hard to maintain my status as an honor student. Academic success has required persistence, discipline, and a willingness to improve. Balancing coursework with extracurricular activities has pushed me to develop strong time management skills and stay focused on my goals. I am a member of the varsity E-Sports team, where I have learned the importance of communication, strategy, and adaptability in a competitive environment. I am also part of a Dungeons & Dragons game team, which has strengthened my creativity, problem-solving abilities, and teamwork skills. Outside of school, I have a wide range of interests that have helped shape who I am. I enjoy all genres of music, which allows me to appreciate different perspectives and cultures. I also have a passion for photography, which gives me a creative outlet to express how I see the world. Through photography, I have learned to pay attention to detail and find meaning in everyday moments. These interests have helped me become more well-rounded and open-minded. One of the most impactful parts of my education has been my involvement in the Automotive Technology classes offered at my school. Over the past two years, I have gained hands-on experience and practical skills that have deepened my interest in the automotive field. These classes have shown me the value of applied learning, where knowledge is directly connected to real-world situations. Working with vehicles has taught me patience, precision, and the importance of problem-solving, while also helping me see a clear path for my future. However, my journey through education has not been without challenges. I have an autoimmune disorder called ITP, which has affected my life both inside and outside of school. Managing this condition has required resilience, adaptability, and perseverance. There have been times when my health made it difficult to fully participate in school or activities, and those moments tested my determination. Living with ITP has changed my perspective. It has taught me not to take opportunities for granted and to make the most of every moment. It has also strengthened my sense of discipline and responsibility, as I have had to balance my health with my academic and personal commitments. Rather than allowing this challenge to hold me back, I have used it as motivation to keep moving forward and continue striving for success. Even small details about who I am, such as being left-handed, remind me that everyone has unique traits that set them apart. I have learned to embrace what makes me different and use it as a source of confidence. Education has helped me appreciate these differences, both in myself and in others. Looking ahead, I hope to use my education to create a better future not only for myself, but also for others. My experiences in automotive technology have inspired me to pursue a path where I can apply my skills in a meaningful way. I want to build a career that combines problem-solving, hands-on work, and continuous learning. At the same time, I hope to use my experiences—especially the challenges I have faced with my health—to encourage others. I want to show that obstacles do not define a person’s potential, and that perseverance can lead to growth and success. Whether through mentorship, teamwork, or simply leading by example, I want to make a positive impact. Education has given me direction, strengthened my character, and helped me discover my purpose. As I continue my journey beyond high school, I am prepared to face new challenges with determination and confidence. My goal is not just to succeed, but to use my success to uplift others and create meaningful change. With the foundation education has provided me, I am ready to build a future that reflects both my ambitions and my values.

Receiving this scholarship would not only help meet my financial needs but also support my long-term career goals. It would allow me to take full advantage of my education and better prepare for a successful future in the auto collision repair industry. Thank you for considering my application.
