So I haven't made anything because I don't have the resources but I have a lot of ideas. A big problem that exists is the scarcity of water and energy. I think we can place solar panels on all buildings every tall building in a city could have solar panels on rooftops and on the walls. This would allow the generation and production of electrical energy in a city. We could store these in giant generators or batteries and then use them to power the city. This same energy could be used to filter water from sewage. The clean water can be used to water plants. We could use it as drinking water but I don't think many people would want to drink it. So instead we could ship or transport the water to farms. The leftover sewage could somehow be filtered to be used as fertilizer. Although I think there are a lot of things in the sewage that can't be used for fertilizer like toxic things. So these would have to be disposed of properly. I have a side idea where these toxic materials or just non-fertilizer materials would be burned and used to make some energy like a power plant. If we burn it then we need a machine to collect the fumes and try to purify them because if it was to get out that would be bad for the environment. I remember reading once about how people place a chemical in burned air to make it into something cleaner and less harmful. I don't remember much about it but that is what I have in mind. I also think we could build machines near the ocean that would take in salt water and filter that into clean water and clean salt. I remember hearing that the machines that filter water at sea just release the salt back into the ocean and this causes brine and damages the ecosystem in the surrounding area. So I believe that instead we could use that salt and sell it like normal salt. It would have to be cleaned first though. The only problem with this plan is that salt water rusts and damages machinery pretty quickly. So maybe we could work on making a rust-resistant metal alloy or even use strong durable plastics. Solar panels would work well on a place like this because it is very sunny at the beach. Storms might damage the machines but these could be built at places less likely to get storms. Also I would build more trash and recycle cans around cities. My family doesn't own a car and we walk everywhere and something that is annoying is the lack of trash bins. If these were more common then there wouldn't be as much trash on the ground. Another idea is that bridges crossing over water could have water generators under them. This way they could also make electricity. Animals might get hurt so they would need to find a way to keep the fish safe. These bridges could also have solar panels on them. Homes could install little windmills on the rooftop like next to a chimney. This would help make more electricity. These are just some of my ideas.

My family is me my mom and my three brothers. My mom was beat by my dad when I was younger. I don't remember any of it except for a phone breaking the window when I was outside. My parents divorced when I was in first grade. Since then my dad would come and go. Give us some money and then disappear. My mom doesn't work. She wants to make sure me and my brothers have a clean home, food to eat, someone to help with homework, and to make sure we actually are safe. My dad officially left and stopped helping some years ago. So we only survive because of the government. We were kicked out of our home because the neighbors really didn't like us. They had no reason to dislike us because we were only ever nice. So we were kicked out of our home. We now live in a garage and it is hard. I got used to it but that doesn't make it easy. I wasn't always able to get to school because we don't have a car and wouldn't always have clean clothes or school supplies. So I wasn't able to get the best grades even though I understood the material we were learning. Because I have seen a lot of the negative of the world I have learned to appreciate the positive and what could be. I want to one day be able to help other that are like me. And I also want to become a district attorney and help the world like a superhero, but without superpowers. I am trying my best in my last year of high school and learned about scholarships so I want to do my best.

To me being successful means being happy. If I can look to the future and see myself as happy then I know I was successful. Now I don't know what will make me happy in the future, I hope I can stay a good person and stay with God. If I stay like that then that would make me successful. I also hope that I could have enough money to pay bills and not struggle like I have in the past and currently do. I want my own home where the plumbing actually works, and I don't have to live with the worry of others kicking us out of our home. I want to be able to help others. That would make me happy and successful. I want to find ways to give others the financial aid that I struggled to get. I want to be able to give others kids the stories that I had so they could be inspired to never give up no matter what. My dad left some years ago. It didn't hurt me. That might make me weird but honestly I wasn't sad. It was just like another chapter in my life. Maybe because I needed to be strong but it just didn't hurt. But what I do know is that if I have children, I hope I never leave them and if we happen to struggle then I will struggle with them. That would be success. My goal is to become a district attorney. I want to be able to put criminals in jail. But I also want to help the criminals. If they weren't in need of help I don't think they would have turned to a life of crime. So I want to find a way so that when they are done with there time, they can have a chance of a good life. I want to help their families while they are in jail. As district attorney I would also help law enforcement and help them in detective work. This is super cool. I could be like batman but in real life. I like mystery things and using my head to figure things out so this is really cool. Not only that but as a district attorney I would also help to fight for the environment. I like nature so this is awesome. This Scholarship would help me achieve my goals because it would help me to pay for college. It would also let me hopefully get a car. Right now my family walks everywhere. We have to carry our groceries in our backpacks. Laundry is the same, we take our dirty clothes to the laundromat and clean it there. Sometimes when we have no money we have to wash our clothes by hand, but recently we couldn't do that because the plumbing hasn't been working for 2 weeks. The Scholarship would really help with that too. Also I could get a phone, everyone has one and even Cal Poly Pomona expects me to have one to sign into the Bronco account, and my mom's free phone is so old It might break any day. There might be other people that need the Scholarship more than me so I kind of feel bad for being selfish, but I do hope I get the scholarship, maybe one day I can pay them back.

My name is Luis Gomez-Gutierrez. I was born and raised in the city of Pomona. My life has been, in my opinion, really good. I get to go to church often; I am Catholic. My dad would beat my mom when I was young but I don’t remember any of it. My parents divorced sometime during first grade, and I stayed with my mom. Currently I have 3 younger brothers. I enjoy learning and reading. I like to run and play sports. I can’t play school sports or be part of the school team because I don’t have any way of getting a physical so I can play. My dad would come now and then and give us money throughout the years, and my mom doesn’t work because she doesn’t want us to go down the wrong path and do drugs or join gangs. So far she has done a phenomenal job. We use welfare and survive because of the government. My dad officially left and stopped helping us about 3 years ago. The neighbors who lived around us didn’t like us at all so they found a way to get the landlord to kick us out so we couldn’t stay at our house. We moved to my grandparents garage and they gave us a rather hard time. They treat us pretty badly and my uncle is even worse. I had to move high schools from Garey High to Ganesha high because of that. Now I am the oldest of my brothers so I set the example. All of them are doing well in school so I think I did a decent job. Now during the first few years of high school I was absent often because we didn’t have either ways to clean ourselves, proper shoes, or other things that are necessary in a household and weren't getting the best grades. I understood everything we learned but because of all my missing and late work I barely passed. Now we are more used to all this so I can come to school everyday and keep my grades up. All of these experiences and even more that I didn’t mention have made me into the person I am today. I understand that there are many others who struggled like how my family has and I want to be able to help them one day. I like learning and I love science and nature and physics and stories. I like stories like Avatar the Last Airbender, Demon Slayer, Percy Jackson, The Book Thief, The Giver, Dune, and many more. I hope to one day write some stories of my own and share them with the world. I don’t want to say that I found comfort in the stories because I didn’t find that. I found something else I can’t really describe, it is like a drive, a drive to help others like in those stories. To never give up and always fight for what is right. So I decided the career I want to have is to become the District Attorney. As a district attorney I could help people that are abused, help to decrease poverty, fight for the environment, put criminals in jail, and help the criminals. It is like being a superhero but without powers. I want to also help the criminal's families because they probably would struggle without their family member. I hope this makes the world a little better. I also want to use the geography to my advantage. I want to figure out ways to catch clean water and give it to those who need it.
