Bio

I am a nursing program student who moved to the United States when I was 5. I have DACA and I will be the only person in my family to graduate from college. I love learning. Being a nurse is my dream job because I am very interested in health care and anatomy and I want to do something with my life that helps people.

    Amber Lott’s Health Heroes Scholarship
I have always been interested in health care. I previously worked as a pharmacy tech and I currently work for a mobile urgent care company. What personally inspired me to be a nurse was the death of my mother-in-law. She was diagnosed with stage IV Renal Cell Carcinoma in August of 2018 and she lost her battle just three months later. Her diagnosis was very unexpected and she immediately had surgery to remove one kidney. She also participated in clinical trials. Unfortunately the cancer was in a very advanced state and progressed very quickly. The doctors and nurses that worked for the hospitals and doctors’ offices were so caring and gentle. They were genuinely concerned and wanted to help. They provided us with honest and realistic information and expectations. We were fortunate to spend our last month with her at a hospice facility where the nurses were sweet and caring. They protected her dignity. They let us have an early thanksgiving and Christmas family celebration in her room. One of them noticed that we would play Christian music for her while we were there. When we had to leave, we would come back to find that the nurse was playing Christian music for her too. That hospice nurse’s name is Virginia and I will always remember her and ve thankful of what she did for us. This is what motivated me to become a nurse. I want to bring the same compassion and comfort to others that was given to us. I am a DACA recipient so I am unable to get financial aid through federal grants or student loans so this scholarship would help me because without federal financial aid all of my school tuition and expenses are out of pocket. I work full time but will probably have to cut back my hours this semester for the beginning of my nursing program so that I have enough time to focus on school.
    Carlos F. Garcia Muentes Scholarship
I am a DACA recipient who came to the United States from Mexico when I was five years old. I was the only person in my family to graduate from high school and soon I will be the first person in my family to graduate college. Growing up I watched my parents work so hard to provide a better life for our family. Now, I want to work for a better life for myself and my family. I want to be able to help them. I also want to be able to help other people as a nurse.

She loved people like I do and she wanted to help them in their time of need.
