I believe education is the root of all ethical and personal developments in life. Without education, there would be little to no growth in our society. My path down education will be to become a teacher, so with my education, I will be able to continue to inspire and encourage students to go to school to obtain the necessary materials to go through life. I have struggled to want to be in school since I was a kid. I found it hard to pay attention, and even harder to make friends. I struggled to get up and go to school. The homework was tiring and none of my teachers genuinely cared about me. A lot of the feelings that I felt towards school were negative. I was exhausted at a young age, and that didn't change until I had my sophomore year history teacher. I remember the day I walked into her class, unexcited for another year at school. She kindly greeted me and all of the other students. Ms. Marion was almost like Mrs. Frizzle to the rest of us, there wasn't a single student who had anything bad to say about her. She taught me and all of my classmates in a way that we could understand and enjoy it. When I only had her class every other day, I was always coming into her class just to hang out. Being provided with a safe environment in a system where I was always alone was very important to my learning. I honestly don't think I would be where I am at now without the help of Ms. Marion. She taught me hard work and resilience in school, which I used outside of school. Ultimately, she inspired me to become a teacher. I don't want students to feel the way that I felt about school. I believe everyone should enjoy their education, especially since it is provided to them. I want to show future students that there is a lot more to their lives than they think. I want to be the next Mrs. Frizzle and Ms. Marion. With scholarships, I will be able to get through college without having to worry about debt or how I can pay off my tuition. I believe my education will bring change and positivity to the education system. I want to help it improve so that students are reaching their fullest extent of creativity and skills.

I am interested in a Bachelor of Education in Social Studies to provide quality education in history for future generations. I want to change the negative mindset that many kids have on school. I value history and believe it is an important part of school, and I want to ensure that students have a passionate and well-knowledged teacher. I want to reinspire burnt out students, and save them from the slippery slope of failing grades and missing class. I find it important to learn from the past in order to uphold and preserve the future. Part of what draws me to this particular major is the passion that professors typically have for history. For example, I took TCC U.S. History, and my professor had a zeal for every unit, which inspired me to be engaged I have always been interested in social studies, and majoring in that would not only benefit my career but also my intellect. During my time as a high schooler, I took the time to establish a chapter of the National History Club, which I have held near and dear to my heart. We focused on tutoring students twice a month in all areas of history studies. I guided students through questions and any existing gaps in all areas of social studies. The work done after school was routine and I enjoyed it more than any after school event. Even though I am not a teacher, my peers still had faith in me because they saw how I studied in school. Since this gave me a taste of what teaching would be like, I quickly realized that education and social studies is my destined career path, it is what I do best. I think that I will excell in education because I am a people person. I'm able to instantly analyze peoples emotions, and can change my reaction to change their own emotions. I'm seeking this degree because I want to make change, while also persuing what I love. I love people, history, and guidance. I think that education is the perfect combination of all of those areas. I am also an active member in Key Club, and when I eventually get my own classroom, I would like to be the sponsor of that club. I feel strongly about it because I have been able to reach out to my community, obtaining over 175 hours of volunteering over the course of two years. Donating my time has been one of the best investments for my personal life, connections, and mental well being. Through my career, I can inspire students to work hard and contribute something good to the world. I can inspire a whole classroom and the effects will ripple out into the world.

It is important that we as a society work to understand how the universe works, and why things are the way they are. Human activity is one of the most interesting topics. What we do, how we do it, the order in which actions are carried out, all are psychologically linked to each other. There is so much of the world that isn't explored yet. We have miles and miles of space, ocean, and human brain activity that is unscathed. I have always been intrigued by ideas that philosophers have presented. Somehow, philosophers are often the most accurate historical artifacts. I think the explorations that they made hundreds of years ago have guided us even now, and their contributions are greatly appreciated. Personally, I would like to study philosophy to understand my universe and society a bit better. During high school, I took sociology, which is similar to philosophy, but is more broad. During that class, I learned how to study the world at a global scale. I studied culture groups, languages, and technology, and how each affects our daily human interactions. Without classes such as these, it would be difficult to understand how the world works. I'm grateful to be given the opportunity to take more of those classes in college. I think that the classes I take in college will be more sophisticated in certain areas that interest me. I love history, film, and government because of the working pieces it takes. There are a lot of factors that play into making each of those possible, and learning more every day is beneficial to my facination. Being able to take more of those analytical classes at my university is one of the best things that have happened to me. Although my mom and dad never went to college, my dad was a very smart man. He introduced me to things that made me think. Movies like Interstellar and Inception made me contemplate society and explorations connection and functions. I remember the conversations that we would have about these movies, and how they shaped my experiences and thinking. I've always been the type of student who asks many questions in class, even if they were stupid. In classes like AP World History, sociology, AP Government, and English classes, I was always the one to ask who and why. When I'm in college, I hope to participate in research projects and classes that further my knowledge in how things work. I like to think that the earth is a clock, and each one of us acts as a working piece. In order to keep ticking, we all have to contribute something.

Community service is a guiding force in my life. Since sophomore year, I have been in Key Club and so far, I have volunteered for 175 hours. I love being able to reach out to my community and make an impact that truly matters. Last summer, I spent about 50 hours as a teaching intern for a STEM camp for talented students. I found my time there to be life changing, and I remember the kids telling me how much I shaped the experience for them. I had a hard time walking away from them, and I hope I'll be able to do it in the future. Working with kids has always been my inspiration, and I believe that my choices to volunteer has only encouraged me more. I make an effort to help out locally, like at a nearby non-profit thrift store. I have donated over 100 clothing items, and volunteered a couple times there over the years. I want to continue to volunteer, and when I receive my degree in education, I want to be the Key Club sponsor at my school. Without volunteering, I don't think I would have the same ambitions that I do now.

When I'm older and graduated, I hope to make the kind of impact that Ms. Hopson made at Winona High School.

During high school, I was known as one of the busiest students. Between Key Club, work, and my History Club, I was always doing something, but that is just who I am; it’s how I function. What I am most proud of is creating a history club that focuses on tutoring, volunteering, and fundraising for my local community. Not only did I achieve being the first history club at my school, but I created a community full of positivity, brilliance, and service. I’ve always been intrigued by history, and sharing that passion with my classmates was fulfilling. As club president, I took on the daunting yet incentivizing task of tutoring students in 5 different subjects: Geography, Government and World, U.S., and European History. I was so proud of our first meeting, we had about 20 people, all of which were engaged and interactive. Although the number was small, I was still grateful for the audience I reached. I loved helping people, especially when it was the thing I was most passionate about. As the club developed and grew throughout the year, my pride grew even more. I took advantage of any moment that I could talk about our next meeting or project. Nothing made me happier than watching more people show up to meetings and events. Even though I was so proud of being part of Key Club and working as hard as I did, I feel a stronger connection to my History Club because it was my own, because I made something out of nothing. Having something that I made entirely myself was the most rewarding part of high school. History Club and Key Club both provided me with ways to volunteer that became regular in my life. Even during the summer, I would spend my hours volunteering wherever I could. I loved tutoring classmates in areas where they were weak, and I was strong. Other ways that people can help or volunteer around my community is through helping at our thrift stores. We have many that are dedicated to giving back, and they are always in need of help. A simple way to help volunteer could be to donate. A donation is often the best way to get close to ones community. Through all of my volunteering experiences, I have met new people and developed new skill sets. Each time I volunteer, I am welcomed and encouraged to come back. If that spirit is spread everywhere, I think anyone would be up for a little community service.
