Growing up as a queer, lesbian, masc-presenting individual of African Liberian descent, I've navigated a unique path filled with both challenges and triumphs. One particular experience stands out: when I first discovered my love for music production and DJing, it became a form of self-expression and empowerment. However, as I began to explore these passions more deeply, I encountered barriers. Many spaces in the music industry, especially those dominated by cisgender heterosexual individuals, were not always welcoming to someone like me. Despite this, I persisted, using my music as a tool to amplify marginalized voices and tell stories that often go unheard.
My aspirations for higher education are deeply rooted in my commitment to advocate for LGBTQ+ rights and society at large. I believe that education is a powerful tool for change, and I plan to use my studies to further understand the intersections of music, identity, and activism. By pursuing a degree in music production, I aim to not only hone my craft but also to learn how to use my platform to advocate for LGBTQ+ rights and social justice.
Receiving this scholarship would alleviate significant financial burdens and enable me to pursue these goals with greater focus and determination. It would provide me with the resources necessary to access educational opportunities that would otherwise be out of reach. With this support, I am confident that I can make a meaningful impact in the music industry and beyond, advocating for a more inclusive and equitable society for all. In conclusion, my journey as a queer, lesbian, masc-presenting African Liberian first-gen pursuing DJing and music production has shaped my identity and aspirations. I am determined to use my education and passion for music to advocate for LGBTQ+ rights and social change. With this scholarship, I can continue my journey with greater purpose and impact, contributing to a world where everyone's voices are heard and celebrated.
I am inspired by the resilience and strength of the LGBTQ+ community. I have seen firsthand the impact that advocacy and representation can have on individuals' lives, and I am committed to being a voice for those who may not have the same opportunities or platform. Through my music, I strive to create a sense of belonging and acceptance for all, regardless of their sexual orientation, gender identity, or background. This scholarship would not only help me achieve my educational goals but also empower me to continue advocating for LGBTQ+ rights and social change through my art. I am grateful for the opportunity to be considered for this scholarship and look forward to the journey ahead.
