My passion for nursing is something that comes from a very personal place. While I have been told my entire life that nursing is a career that is founded on both compassion and strength, it was not until I saw the true meaning of those words within my own life that I understood what that really meant. Seeing someone that you care about go through hardship is something that opens your eyes to the kind of difference that a nurse can make, not only to their patient, but to themselves. It was in those moments that I knew I did not want a career, but I wanted a purpose. Nursing was that purpose.
What attracts me the most to the field of nursing is the ability to be there for people during the most vulnerable times of their lives. It takes a special kind of strength to be there for someone when they are going through pain, to stand up for someone when they may feel like they are not being heard, or to remain composed when the situation demands it. Through my experience as a CNA student, as well as working at a nursing home, I have already started learning these skills. I have learned that it is not just about the tasks you accomplish, but about the trust, the empathy, and the respect you show towards your patients. It is the small gestures, the small actions, that can have the greatest influence on someone’s life.
As I continue on my journey, I hope to have a career as a pediatric nurse, specifically working in urgent care. I have chosen pediatric nursing because children need not only healing, but also patience, creativity, and understanding. Children cannot always describe what they are going through, which makes it even more vital for nurses to be caring. I would like to be a nurse who can bring solace both to the child and the family during difficult times.

Through my career, I hope to gain more than just clinical knowledge and technical skills. I want to grow into a nurse who is resilient, adaptable, and deeply empathetic. I want to continue learning how to handle difficult situations with professionalism while still maintaining a human connection with my patients. Nursing is a field that constantly evolves, and I am excited to be part of a profession that challenges me to grow every day.
The effect I would like to make in pediatric urgent care is based on care and connection. I would like to provide a comfortable and safe environment for children who are scared or in pain. I would like parents to feel comfortable knowing that their child is in good and caring hands. Most importantly, I would like to be the kind of nurse who makes an impact on my patient’s life, not only for the care that I provided them, but for how I made them feel during their time of need.
Nursing is more than a career to me, it is a calling based on compassion, strength, and the desire to make a difference.

WinnerNursing is more than just a career path to me, it is a calling shaped by my personal experiences, values, and deep desire to help others. My passion for nursing began with my grandmother’s illness. Watching her suffer was heartbreaking, but what stood out to me was the role that nurses played in her care. They provided not only medical assistance but also compassion, patience, and reassurance. They comforted her when she was in pain and supported my family when we felt overwhelmed. Witnessing their kindness made me realize that I wanted to be that source of comfort and care for others.
My journey toward becoming a nurse has already begun through my work at my Certified Nursing Assistant (CNA) program at my high school, Hillsboro High School. Working in a nursing home has given me hands-on experience in patient care, reinforcing my passion for the field. I have learned that nursing is not just about administering medication or following procedures, it is about forming connections with patients, understanding their fears, and making them feel valued. Every interaction with a patient reminds me of the impact that kindness and empathy can have. Whether it’s holding someone’s hand during a difficult moment or simply taking the time to listen, I have come to understand that even the smallest gestures can make a difference.
One of the most rewarding experiences I have had as a CNA candidate was helping an elderly patient who had been struggling with loneliness and depression. She rarely spoke to anyone and often refused assistance. I took the time to sit with her, talk to her, and learn about her life. Over time, she opened up and started engaging more with others. Seeing her smile for the first time in weeks was a moment that reaffirmed why I want to become a nurse. It is not just about treating illnesses, it is about caring for people as a whole.
In the future, I hope to contribute to the nursing field by providing compassionate, patient-centered care. I am particularly drawn to pediatric nursing, where I can support children and their families during some of the most challenging times of their lives. I want to be a source of strength and comfort for young patients, helping them feel safe and cared for in hospital settings.
Additionally, I hope to give back to the nursing profession by mentoring and guiding future nurses. I know how much my own experiences have shaped me, and I want to help others develop the skills and confidence needed to succeed in this demanding yet rewarding field. Nursing is a profession where learning never stops, and I am eager to continue growing, improving, and making a lasting impact.
Nursing is a career that blends science, compassion, and service, and I am fully committed to embracing all aspects of it. I look forward to dedicating my life to helping others, one patient at a time.

Helping my community is something I am passionate about, whether through direct service, mentorship, or simply offering support when it’s needed. One of the most meaningful ways I’ve contributed is through my training as a Certified Nursing Assistant (CNA). Working in a local nursing home, I assist elderly residents with daily tasks, listen to their stories, and provide comfort during difficult moments. This experience has strengthened my sense of empathy and reinforced the importance of human connection.
One particular experience that stands out to me was helping a resident who was struggling with loneliness and depression. She rarely spoke to staff or other residents and often seemed withdrawn. Every day, I made an effort to check in on her, engaging in small conversations and encouraging her to participate in activities. Over time, she opened up, and one day, she told me that my kindness made her feel seen and valued again. That moment reminded me that even small gestures can have a profound impact. It also reinforced why I want to pursue a career in nursing, because providing care and compassion can make a real difference in someone’s life.
Beyond healthcare, I have participated in several volunteer activities that have allowed me to give back in different ways. I have helped organize community clean-ups, participated in food drives, and assisted at school events. These experiences have shown me that helping others doesn’t always require special skills, sometimes, all it takes is time, effort, and a willingness to serve.
There are countless ways people can contribute to their communities. Volunteering at shelters, mentoring younger students, donating to food banks, and supporting local businesses are just a few ways to make a positive impact. Even small actions, like checking in on a neighbor or helping a friend in need, can create a ripple effect of kindness. When people come together to support one another, it strengthens the entire community.
One of the biggest lessons I’ve learned through volunteering is that service is not just about giving, it’s also about learning. Volunteering has taught me responsibility, teamwork, and the value of selflessness. It has helped me grow as a person, gain new perspectives, and appreciate the importance of giving back. No matter how big or small the act, helping others creates a lasting impact. I hope to continue serving my community in any way I can, both now and in my future career.
