I read books daily.

I read books daily.
My current career goal is to collect experiences that destroy my preconceptions of environmental health. I learned in Yellowstone that I was blind to the true extent of human destruction on the Texas coast because there is no untouched habitat. Like most young marine biologists I began with a very specific idea of what my career would be. All I wanted was to research movement of marine fishes. Everything I did was working towards that end, including going to Yellowstone. I was not excited about working in freshwater habitat. How arrogant I was. My worldview was destroyed seeing how the forests and rivers stretched on further than the eye could see. Rarely at home I’d find a view of the marsh without sight of where it ended and imagine how the world was before. But in Yellowstone I didn’t have to imagine it. It was healthy and beautiful at every scale. Coming home was like developing the ability to see ghosts. The breadth of my ignorance shocked me. Now my life’s mission has become the never-ending illumination of those blind spots in my own worldview. I’m interested in fish, fire, trees, bugs and birds. There's no telling where I might end up anymore. When I graduate in the spring I will try to find a seasonal position in a National Park or perhaps go abroad for the first time.
