Band has shaped who I am in ways that go far beyond music. When I first joined band, I thought my experience would mainly be about learning an instrument, performing music, and being part of a group. Instead, band taught me discipline, leadership, confidence, responsibility, and the importance of trusting the people around me. Some of my most memorable experiences have happened on the field, surrounded by my fellow musicians, knowing that every note, movement, and decision matters. One of the most meaningful parts of being in band has been performing at competitions. Standing on the field before a performance, I always feel a mixture of nervousness and excitement. After spending countless hours rehearsing the same sections, fixing mistakes, and pushing through difficult practices, stepping onto the field makes all of that hard work worth it. One performance that stands out to me was when our entire band finally performed a show the way we had envisioned it. Hearing the music come together while watching everyone move as one made me realize how much we had accomplished together. It showed me that success does not happen overnight; it comes from consistently showing up and giving your best, even when you are tired or frustrated. Band has also challenged me to step outside of my comfort zone. Taking on responsibilities within the program, including working as an audio-visual manager, allowed me to discover skills I did not know I had. I had to communicate with others, solve problems quickly, and take responsibility when something needed to be done. Being trusted with an important role taught me that leadership is not always about being the person in front. Sometimes, leadership means being the person behind the scenes who makes sure everyone else has what they need to succeed. My most memorable performances have also taught me the value of perseverance. There were rehearsals when I was exhausted, performances when something did not go exactly as planned, and moments when I questioned whether all the work was worth it. However, band taught me to keep going and learn from every mistake. That mindset has carried over into my life as a student and will continue to help me in my future. As I look toward the future, I know band will continue shaping my goals. The teamwork, time management, and leadership skills I have gained will help me in college and in my future career. I also hope to continue being involved in music because I want to give others the same sense of belonging and accomplishment that band has given me. Most importantly, band has taught me that when people work together, support one another, and refuse to give up, something truly special can be created.

My love for cooking comes from being born and raised in Louisiana, where food is more than something we eat, it is a way we welcome people, celebrate life, and bring families together. Growing up surrounded by the deep, inviting culture of Louisiana and the traditions of soul food taught me that a meal can tell a story. Some of my favorite memories come from cooking with my dad, especially our Sunday tradition we called “Souper Soup Sunday.” Those moments showed me that cooking is not just about following a recipe; it is about creating memories, sharing love, and making people feel at home. Pursuing a culinary degree will allow me to turn that love into a career while honoring the culture that shaped me. I want to learn the skills, techniques, and creativity needed to become a chef who brings people together through food. I hope to introduce others to the warmth and richness of Louisiana and soul food while also creating dishes that reflect my own experiences. I want my culinary career to make a positive impact by creating welcoming spaces where everyone feels like they belong. Whether I am cooking for a small family gathering or serving a restaurant full of people, I want every dish to carry the same love and hospitality I experienced growing up. My goal is to use food to connect cultures, create opportunities, and remind people that sometimes, a good meal can bring us closer together. Through my culinary journey, I hope to leave every person I serve with not only a full stomach, but also a full heart.

I have decided to pursue an education in the culinary arts because cooking has always been one of the most meaningful and creative parts of my life. What started as helping in the kitchen and experimenting with baking recipes has grown into a genuine passion and a clear direction for my future. One of my earliest and most meaningful food memories is a tradition my dad and I created called "Souper Soup Sunday." Every Sunday, we would cook soup together from scratch, often experimenting with whatever ingredients we had on hand. Those moments were never just about the food itself, but about spending time together, learning side by side, and creating something warm and comforting that we could share as a family. That tradition helped me realize that food has the power to bring people together in a way few other things can. For me, cooking is more than just preparing meals, it is a form of care, creativity, and communication. I love the process of turning simple ingredients into something that can comfort someone, celebrate an occasion, or brighten an ordinary day. Baking especially has taught me patience, precision, and attention to detail. When a recipe turns out well, it feels rewarding because it reflects both effort and creativity. When it does not, it teaches me resilience and problem-solving. These lessons have made me more disciplined and intentional, qualities that I know are essential in a professional kitchen. "Super Soup Sunday" also taught me something important about collaboration. Cooking with my dad meant sharing responsibility, making decisions together, and sometimes improvising when things didn't go as planned. I learned teamwork in the kitchen is just as important as individual skill. That experience helped shape my understanding of what it means to work in a fast paced culinary environment, where communication and cooperation are key to success. Another reason I am pursuing culinary arts is because I want to build a career that aligns with my values and passions. My faith is important to me, and I see my work in the culinary field as a way to serve God by serving others. Whether it is through hospitality, preparing food for events, or working in a restaurant setting, I want my career to reflect kindness, humility, and excellence. I believe food has a unique ability to bring people together across backgrounds, and I want to be part of creating those moments of connection. My future career goal is to become a professional chef, ideally working in a restaurant or bakery where I can continue to grow my skills and creativity. I am especially interested in baking and pastry arts because of the artistry involved in desserts and the level of precision required. Over time, I hope to take on more leadership responsibilities in the kitchen, learning from experienced chefs and eventually mentoring others who are just starting out. Long term, I would also like to explore the possibility of opening my own small bakery or cafe, where I could create a welcoming environment and share food that reflects both quality and care. Overall, pursuing an education in culinary arts is not just a career choice for me, it is a commitment to something I truly love, From "Souper Soup Sunday" in my family kitchen to my future in a professional kitchen, food has consistently been at the center of how I connect with others and express myself. I am excited to continue building on that foundation and turn a lifelong passion into a meaningful career.
