Bio

I am a partially deaf and transgender man pursuing a career in education. I aspire to prepare the next generations to come for the years ahead of them and to help them be the best versions of themselves they can be. I hope to make kids passionate about learning and excited about the world. When I was a kid I was left with so many unanswered questions that left me frustrated and discouraged. I eventually stopped being curious and I no longer cared for learning. I wish to answer every question any of my students may have to the best of my ability so they can learn and grow to their full potential. If I don't know the answer I will do my best to find it. No question is dumb, and no question will remain unanswered.

I am Logan Thibeault and I am a transgender man. I have found out I was transgender since I was 11 after watching a video about a transgender guy that hit close to home. With being transgender also came feelings of not fitting in with my peers, anxiety, feeling trapped, and depression. Unwanted thoughts due to the depression and anxiety swirled in my mind as I felt I had no place. It is because of the support from my mother and sisters as well as the unconditional love from my beloved dog who passed away 2 years ago that I'm still here today and getting better with each passing day. As I move on with my life and start a new chapter I have decided to pursue a career in education. I strive to show future generations that it's okay to be your authentic self. I want them to know that even if it seems there's no point and no matter how bad things are, that you will persevere and you will thrive. As of 2020 I have volunteered at many organizations. I've helped out at the Community Education Extended Learning Program (CEEL) as well as the Nittany Valley Charter School (NVCS). I have also attended the Early Childhood Education program at the State College Area High School. From these experiences I have learned a bit more about what being an early education teacher entails. I've seen how chaotic and messy everything can get and how hard teaching can be (especially if the students aren't willing to learn). I've also learned how sweet kids can be and how good it feels when they finally catch on to something you've been teaching; the light that shines in their eyes when they're excited about the material you are teaching is invaluable. It is with the help of this scholarship that I can make this dream a reality. I come from a low-income household with my single mother. When I decided on going to Commonwealth University in Bloomsburg I was so excited. It was a good school for my major, it had plenty of fun clubs, and my best friend was planning on going there too. When the reality of college expenses came to me it felt like things were falling apart. I still remember crying in my mother's arms. The costs of tuition, housing, fees, books, and meal plans all felt so overwhelming, and I knew this was just the beginning. Things will only get more expensive after college and that reality was crashing down on me hard. It's like my mom told me though. When there's a will there's a way, and there's no way I'm giving up. With this scholarship I won't be able to pay for all the expenses of college, but it will be the first stepping stone I need that leads me to my goals. This scholarship will help me pursue my dream of helping to mold the future generations to the best versions of themselves. To make a future where kids can feel comfortable in their own skins and don’t have to hide or feel ashamed of who they are.

I am Logan Thibeault and I have been diagnosed with partial unilateral hearing loss since I was 7. I currently wear a hearing aid in my left ear. Despite me still being able to hear this has caused distress throughout my life (especially with learning). As a kid I remember the frustration I would feel when I couldn't understand the teacher or my peers around me. Not to mention the frustration I encountered when asking someone to repeat their words for the third time. This has discouraged me from learning new things and made me frustrated. It is from these experiences that I wish to pursue a career in education. I strive to make future generations passionate about learning and to show them the same patience I wished to have received when I was a kid. I have always enjoyed teaching. From age 12 I would always babysit cousins, nieces, kids of family friends, etc. I enjoyed learning what they were passionate about and sharing what I knew with them. It is from this that I have grown to love young kids and wished to pursue teaching. From then on I have volunteered at many organizations. To make a future where kids will want to keep learning about the world around them and beyond.
Sean Carroll's Mindscape Big Picture Scholarship
I've helped out at the Community Education Extended Learning Program (CEEL) as well as the Nittany Valley Charter School (NVCS). To make a future where kids will want to keep learning about the world around them and beyond.

Despite me still being able to hear this has caused distress throughout my life (especially with learning). I am Logan Thibeault and I am a transgender man. I have found out I was transgender since I was 11 after watching a video about a transgender guy that hit close to home. With being transgender also came feelings of not fitting in with my peers, awkwardness, feeling trapped, and depression. Unwanted thoughts due to the depression swirled in my mind as I felt I had no place. To make a future where kids will want to keep learning about the world around them and beyond.

As of 2020 I have volunteered at many organizations. I've helped out at the Community Education Extended Learning Program (CEEL) as well as the Nittany Valley Charter School (NVCS).
