    Future Green Leaders Scholarship
Sustainability must be a primary concern for computer science and network engineering, as technology infrastructure has a significant impact on global energy usage and environmental well-being. With the demand for digital connectivity expanding exponentially—with data centers, network gear, and devices running nonstop—the amount of energy needed to power these systems rises accordingly. Recent studies have shown that data centers alone consume a significant portion of the world's electricity, and without conscious efforts to be more environmentally friendly, this consumption is expected to continue growing. This represents both a challenge and an opportunity for professionals in my field to lead the way in reducing environmental impact while advancing technologically. Sustainability in network engineering refers to the practice of designing and developing systems that are power-efficient, scalable, and can adapt to future demands without requiring additional resource consumption. This can include implementing power-saving protocols, optimizing hardware for minimal power usage, and utilizing green energy sources for data centers and installations. Green procurement policies, equipment lifecycle management, and electronic waste recycling are also central to minimizing the ecological footprint of technology infrastructure. In my career, I anticipate being involved in such efforts through the design and maintenance of green IT installations. During my internship at Colorado State University's Division of IT Network Operations Center, I gained direct experience with how small configuration changes and effective network management can optimize overall system performance and conserve resources in the process. I intend to build on this experience by pursuing certifications and training in sustainability principles in IT and network engineering. Beyond technical implementation, I also envision myself as an advocate for sustainability within organizations. Bringing awareness to teams regarding the environmental impact of technology choices, advocating for energy-efficient policies, and collaborating with vendors that adhere to sustainable manufacturing and disposal practices are key steps toward creating a culture of environmental stewardship. Additionally, I plan to engage in collaborative partnerships with local organizations, educational institutions, and government agencies to foster broader initiatives promoting sustainability in technology. By participating in workshops, seminars, and outreach programs, I aim to spread knowledge about the importance of sustainable practices and inspire others in the industry to take proactive measures. Lastly, the future of technology depends on a balance between innovation and stewardship of natural resources. By placing sustainability at the heart of my professional practice, I aim to contribute to the creation of robust, efficient, and environmentally conscious networks that meet the needs of society without compromising the health of our planet. This commitment aligns with my broader purpose of utilizing technology not only for connectivity and progress but also as a tool to facilitate a sustainable future. In a world increasingly focused on climate change and resource depletion, I recognize the critical role that technology plays in shaping a sustainable society. A clear mission will guide my journey in the realm of computer science and network engineering: to leverage technological advancements to foster an eco-friendly future while driving innovation that supports both economic growth and environmental responsibility. By proactively seeking solutions that align with these goals, I want to leave a lasting, positive impact on both the tech industry and the environment.
    Neal Hartl Memorial Sales/Marketing Scholarship
The world of sales and marketing pulses with energy, creativity, and the power to shape how people see and interact with ideas. It's a field where human connection meets strategy, and I'm drawn to it like a moth to a flame. My inspiration to pursue a career in sales and marketing stems from an innate passion for storytelling, a desire to drive solutions, and the thrill of making a meaningful impact. To me, this isn't a career—it's a calling to connect the dots, spark inspiration, and bring value to a world that thrives on connection. At its core, marketing is about people. It's about stepping into another's shoes, learning their needs, their aspirations, their pain points, and crafting a message that connects. I've never lost interest in human behavior—why we make the choices we make, what drives us, and what establishes trust. As I matured, I naturally gravitated toward contexts where I could engage with individuals, either persuading friends to try a new experience or organizing community events that brought people together. Those experiences ignited something within me, unleashing the power of influence and communication. Sales and marketing feel like the professional culmination of that spark—a career arena in which I can utilize my fascination with people to build relationships and offer solutions. What I find truly exciting is the creative freedom that this profession offers. Marketing is an art, a balance of data-driven insights and bold, creative storytelling. Whether it's designing a campaign that stops someone mid-scroll or crafting a pitch that seals a deal, the ability to create something that resonates deeply is exhilarating. I'm inspired by brands that don't just sell products but tell stories that stick—think of Nike's empowering "Just Do It" or Apple's sleek, aspirational identity. I want to be part of that magic, developing messages that inform while also driving action and loyalty. The potential that my efforts could shape perceptions, initiate dialogue, or even change the course of someone's day is a tantalizing one, driving me to dive headfirst into this dynamic field. The problem-solving challenge in real-time also drives my enthusiasm. Sales and marketing don't stand still; they demand adaptability, quick thinking, and endurance. In sales, every client meeting is a puzzle—deciphering their objections, aligning solutions with their needs, and building trust under pressure. Marketing, by contrast, is about staying abreast of a constantly shifting landscape of trends, platforms, and consumer expectations. I thrive on that challenge. The idea of analyzing data, identifying patterns, and refining strategies to hit the target excites me. It's a tightrope walk where the payoff isn't necessarily a sale or a click but a genuine connection that brings value to everyone involved. Lastly, my love of sales and marketing is the impact it has. I want to make a difference—whether that's helping a small business grow by telling its story or allowing consumers to make choices that improve their lives. This position is a unique opportunity to blend creativity, strategy, and human connection to achieve results that matter. I do not merely desire a paycheck; I desire the potential to leave a mark, build something of worth, and grow in an ever-evolving industry. Sales and marketing are where I can direct my energy, inquisitiveness, and determination into a career that doesn't feel like work but rather a mission. I'm ready to dive in, learn, and make waves.
