KC R. Sandidge Photography Scholarship
I've always had an interest in the stars, and about a year ago I stumbled across my brother's old telescope. I began using it to look into the heavens, at the moon and more. At that point, I already had photography experience, so I used those skills to start doing astrophotography! Because light pollution is a massive problem, I mostly stuck to the moon, the sun, as well as the occasional Saturn and Jupiter. However, one day hope to be able to photograph the galaxy Andromeda! To help me, I bought special attachments, so that I could attach my camera to my telescope and make things easier. I even had the privilege to witness and photograph the 2024 Total Solar Eclipse - a once in a lifetime opportunity. My favorite thing about it is being able to set up my rig and show people glimpses into what they take for granted. People forget that the moon is a massive rock in space, and being able to see the details like it's up close is special for many. When its in phase, you can clearly make out the craters due to the harsh shadows, which people don't expect! I remember the first time I saw Jupiter and the Galilean moons through my telescope, it felt out of this world! I hope that my photos can help spread the same wow feeling for years to come.
