Giving back to my community has been an essential part of my life, shaped by my experiences as an Eagle Scout, student leader, and volunteer. I believe that contributing to the well-being of others not only strengthens the community but also fosters personal growth, responsibility, and a sense of purpose. Whether through service projects, mentorship, or environmental initiatives, I am committed to making a positive impact wherever I can. One of my most meaningful contributions was my Eagle Scout project, where I designed and built a 400-square-foot spider web climbing apparatus for a county park nature center’s daycare program. This project was more than just constructing a piece of playground equipment - it was about creating a space for young children to engage in outdoor play, develop motor skills, and experience the joy of climbing and exploration. The project required extensive planning, fundraising, and coordination with local officials, volunteers, and donors. Seeing the children use and enjoy the structure after completion was incredibly rewarding, reinforcing my belief in the power of community service. Beyond my Eagle Scout project, I have remained involved in mentorship and leadership roles. As a former high school lacrosse goalie and team captain, I took on the responsibility of mentoring younger players and helping them develop their skills and confidence both on and off the field. Even after graduating, I have returned to assist with practices and provide guidance to aspiring goalies. Sports played a significant role in shaping my discipline and perseverance, and I feel it is important to give back to the programs that helped me grow. In addition, my studies in Agribusiness, Business, and Environmental Sustainability at Penn State University have deepened my awareness of community issues, particularly in food security and environmental stewardship. I have participated in service projects focused on sustainable agriculture, local food donations, and conservation efforts, aiming to address issues that affect both urban and rural communities. Through these experiences, I have learned that small actions (whether volunteering at a food bank or helping with a community garden) can create meaningful change. Giving back is important to me because I believe that strong communities are built through collective effort. When individuals take the time to support others, they contribute to a cycle of generosity and progress. Service has taught me valuable lessons in leadership, empathy, and resilience which resemble qualities that I carry into my academic and professional pursuits. No matter where life takes me, I will always prioritize giving back, knowing that even the smallest efforts can make a significant difference in the lives of others.
      Our Destiny Our Future Scholarship
I plan to make a positive impact on the world by leveraging the unique blend of leadership skills, community service, and academic knowledge I have developed as an Eagle Scout, through my volunteer work with the Scouts of America, and as an Agribusiness major at Penn State University. These experiences have collectively shaped my values and career aspirations, guiding me toward making a lasting contribution to society. As an Eagle Scout, I learned the importance of leadership, perseverance, and service. The rigorous requirements of the rank challenged me to develop projects that not only served my local community but also taught me the value of careful planning and ethical decision-making. These experiences instilled in me a sense of duty to lead by example and to always consider the broader impact of my actions. Volunteering with Scouts of America further reinforced these principles by providing countless opportunities to mentor younger scouts, organize community service initiatives, and promote civic responsibility. Through these activities, I have witnessed firsthand the transformative power of community engagement and the lasting effects that committed, thoughtful service can have on individuals and communities alike. At Penn State University, my studies in Agribusiness are equipping me with the technical expertise and business acumen needed to address some of the most pressing challenges in agriculture today. In an era marked by climate change, population growth, and resource scarcity, sustainable agricultural practices are more important than ever. I am particularly passionate about exploring innovative methods to enhance food security and support rural economies while reducing environmental impacts. By integrating cutting-edge research with traditional agribusiness strategies, I aim to develop solutions that improve the efficiency and sustainability of food production. This could involve promoting practices such as precision agriculture, sustainable supply chain management, and the development of resilient crop systems that can withstand the challenges of a changing climate. My long-term goal is to bridge the gap between traditional agricultural practices and modern technological advancements to create a more sustainable food system. I envision a future where sustainable agribusiness practices not only ensure a stable food supply but also empower rural communities economically and socially. By working with farmers, policymakers, and industry leaders, I hope to implement strategies that optimize resource use, minimize waste, and foster a healthier environment. In addition to my professional ambitions, I remain committed to the values of service and mentorship that I embraced as an Eagle Scout and through my work with Scouts of America. I plan to continue volunteering and mentoring young people, encouraging them to pursue their passions and to be proactive in addressing the challenges facing our communities. I believe that by investing in the next generation, we can create a ripple effect of positive change that will extend far beyond our immediate actions. Ultimately, by combining my leadership experience, community service, and academic pursuits, I am determined to contribute to a more sustainable and equitable world—one where innovation and tradition work hand in hand to improve lives and protect our planet for future generations.

Stephen "Mike" Flinders Agriculture and Animal Care Scholarship
Agriculture has always been a part of my life, shaping my values and fueling my aspirations. Growing up in a community surrounded by farmland, I developed a deep appreciation for the hard work and dedication that goes into cultivating the food we eat. Over time, this appreciation grew into a passion for agriculture, sustainability, and animal welfare, as I realized the profound impact these fields have on our lives and the planet. By integrating sustainable energy sources, farmers can reduce their environmental footprint while lowering costs - a win for both agriculture and the planet. These kinds of innovations motivate me to contribute to solutions that address global challenges like food security, climate change, and animal welfare. Looking forward, I am committed to making a meaningful impact in agriculture. I hope to help farmers adopt sustainable practices that support animal welfare while ensuring profitability. My ultimate goal is to work at the intersection of agribusiness and sustainability, where I can lead initiatives that enhance the well-being of animals, the health of ecosystems, and the resilience of agricultural communities. In conclusion, my passion for agriculture and caring for animals is rooted in my experiences, education, and values. I believe that by combining innovative solutions with compassion and responsibility, we can create a future where agriculture thrives in harmony with the environment and the animals we depend on.

      James T. Godwin Memorial Scholarship
My grandfather, Donald J. Gamrat, was a proud veteran who served in the Vietnam War. His experiences in the military shaped his character and provided a wealth of lessons that he passed down to our family. While I have never personally witnessed his time in Vietnam, his stories, wisdom, and resilience have left an indelible mark on my life. One of my favorite memories with my grandfather involves a day we spent fishing together when I was about 10 years old. Fishing with him was not just about catching fish - it was a time for quiet reflection, storytelling, and bonding. As we sat by the water, he shared a story about a particularly challenging moment he faced during his time in Vietnam. He described the intense heat, the physical demands, and the emotional toll of being away from home. Despite these hardships, he emphasized how camaraderie and a shared sense of duty kept him and his fellow soldiers going. What struck me most about that story was not the difficulty of his experience but the perspective he brought to it. He did not speak of bitterness or regret but of gratitude for the lessons learned and the bonds formed with those he served alongside. “The hardest moments,” he told me, “show you what you’re capable of and remind you why you keep going.” That day, he was not just teaching me about perseverance; he was demonstrating how to find strength and purpose even in life’s most challenging circumstances. Another fond memory of my grandfather revolves around his attention to detail and pride in doing things the right way (traits he attributed to his military training). Whether he was fixing something around the house, organizing a family gathering, or teaching me how to tie a fishing knot, he believed that every task deserved full effort and respect. It was not just about getting the job done; it was about doing it well and with integrity. That mindset has stuck with me and influenced the way I approach both my studies and personal life. My grandfather also had a sharp sense of humor that balanced his serious, disciplined side. He loved to joke about his time in the military, often quipping that the Army made him an expert in things he never thought he needed, like how to sleep anywhere or make a meal out of whatever was available. His humor made him approachable, and it was a reminder that even in difficult times, there is always room for a laugh. Above all, my grandfather taught me the importance of service, humility, and resilience. His stories from Vietnam were not just accounts of his military service - they were lessons in how to face challenges, support others, and take pride in contributing to something bigger than yourself. He never sought recognition for his sacrifices. Instead, he carried himself with quiet dignity and a deep love for his family and country. Today, I try to embody the values my grandfather instilled in me. Whether it is through my studies in agribusiness and sustainability, my community service as an Eagle Scout, or the lessons I learned as a high school lacrosse goalie, I strive to carry forward his legacy of dedication, perseverance, and humility. My grandfather’s life and service remind me that while we cannot always control the challenges we face, we can control how we respond to them (and that resilience, laughter, and a commitment to doing what is right can carry us through anything). Donald J. Gamrat was more than a Vietnam veteran - he is everyone's hero!

Learner Mental Health Empowerment for Health Students Scholarship
Mental health is an essential component of overall well-being, especially as a student navigating academic, personal, and extracurricular responsibilities. For me, mental health is not just a topic of interest, it is a cornerstone of success and resilience. My experiences as a high school lacrosse goalie and an Eagle Scout have taught me that maintaining a strong mental state is as important as physical preparation, and I have seen firsthand how advocacy for mental health can positively impact individuals and communities. As a high school lacrosse goalie, mental fortitude was a daily necessity. Being the last line of defense meant that every mistake or goal scored against me was magnified, sometimes affecting not only the game’s outcome but also my confidence. It was during these moments that I realized the power of mental preparation and resilience. I learned techniques such as visualization and mindfulness to help manage the pressure. These practices did not just improve my performance on the field - they became valuable tools for handling academic stress and personal challenges. I carry these lessons with me today, using them to stay focused and balanced as a student at Penn State University. Achieving the rank of Eagle Scout further deepened my understanding of mental health’s importance. The journey to Eagle Scout was filled with challenges requiring patience, determination, and adaptability. Planning and executing my Eagle Scout project involved setbacks and problem-solving under pressure, often testing my mental endurance. Through this process, I learned to prioritize self-care and seek support when needed. I also saw how Scouting emphasizes community and teamwork, which underscored the role of social connections in maintaining mental well-being. Recognizing the importance of mental health in my own life has motivated me to advocate for it within my community. In school, I make a conscious effort to create a supportive environment by checking in with peers and encouraging open conversations about stress and challenges. I have often shared my strategies for managing pressure, such as breaking tasks into manageable steps and taking short mental breaks to recharge. I also promote the idea that asking for help is a strength, not a weakness, whether that involves talking to a trusted teacher, counselor, or friend. As a student, I prioritize mental health because it impacts every aspect of life, from academic performance to relationships and long-term goals. For me, maintaining good mental health is about balancing academics with rest, ambition with self-compassion, and independence with the willingness to seek support. I believe that advocating for mental health in my community fosters a culture of empathy and resilience, enabling others to thrive both inside and outside the classroom. In the future, I aim to continue this advocacy by working to reduce stigma and increase access to mental health resources. Whether through leadership roles, community projects, or simply being a supportive friend, I am committed to fostering environments where mental health is valued and prioritized. By sharing my journey as a student, an athlete, and an Eagle Scout, I hope to inspire others to embrace the importance of mental health and to take proactive steps toward one's well-being.

      GUTS- Olivia Rodrigo Fan Scholarship
One lyric from Olivia Rodrigo’s GUTS that resonates with many aspects of my teenage experience comes from the song “Teenage Dream”: "They all say that it gets better - It gets better, but what if I don't?" This lyric captures the uncertainty and vulnerability that often define adolescence. It speaks to the internal struggle many teenagers face when they’re told that their challenges are temporary. They can’t shake the fear that they may never grow beyond their insecurities or anxieties. This sentiment is one I have grappled with during my teenage years, making this lyric particularly meaningful to me. Adolescence is frequently portrayed as a transitional phase where everything will eventually “get better.” Parents, teachers, and older peers often offer reassurance that the awkwardness, confusion, and self-doubt are just temporary; however, when you're in the thick of it, it’s hard to imagine a version of yourself that feels secure, confident, or fully capable of navigating the world. The lyric captures this unique anxiety that many teenagers experience: the fear of not changing, of not improving, or of being left behind while everyone else seemingly moves forward. For me, this line speaks to the pressure to mature into an idealized adult while also fearing that who I am now may be all I'll ever be. Olivia Rodrigo’s lyric also captures the broader essence of adolescence, a time filled with contradiction. Adolescents are often caught between the desire for independence and the fear of responsibility, between the need for self-expression and the overwhelming pressure to fit in. In this in-between stage, nothing feels permanent, yet everything seems to carry enormous weight. Teenagers are trying to find themselves in a world that tells them they need to become someone better, more capable, or more complete. Rodrigo’s lyric encapsulates this contradiction: the hopeful message that "it gets better" is shadowed by the self-doubt embedded in the question, "But what if I don't?" In my own experience, I’ve often struggled with the same feeling the lyric expresses - a fear that I might not live up to my potential or grow beyond my current limitations. This worry is compounded by the societal expectations placed on teenagers to excel academically, socially, and emotionally, all while undergoing profound personal changes. The pressure to meet these expectations can be overwhelming, and when you don’t see immediate progress, it’s easy to wonder whether “getting better” is really in the cards for you. This lyric speaks to a more universal aspect of adolescence: internalizing other people’s hopes and fears. Adults often view teenage years with nostalgia and concern, projecting their experiences onto the next generation. They tell us it will get better because they know it did for them, but that doesn’t always match the lived reality of someone in the middle of their teenage years. The doubt that Olivia Rodrigo expresses - "But what if I don't?" - feels like a defiant pushback against the idea that everyone’s journey follows the same trajectory. It acknowledges the uniqueness of each person’s struggles and emphasizes that adolescence is not a one-size-fits-all experience. Hence, this lyric from Olivia Rodrigo’s GUTS encapsulates the essence of adolescence: the conflicting emotions, the uncertainty of personal growth, and the intense pressure to become something more. It resonates with me because it reflects the fears and challenges that often accompany teenage years, as well as the overwhelming sense of doubt that sometimes feels inescapable; however, by acknowledging these emotions, the lyric also offers a sense of solidarity - a reminder that even in our most uncertain moments, we’re not alone in feeling unsure about the future.

I have always been a hardworking, driven individual, dedicating myself to academics, sports, and personal growth. As an Eagle Scout, I learned valuable lessons in leadership, resilience, and community service that have shaped me into the person I am today. Earning the rank of Eagle Scout was not just about achieving a goal but also about building the character and skills needed to overcome adversity and stay committed to my values. As a high school honor student, I pushed myself academically, always striving for excellence. Playing as a lacrosse goalie taught me discipline, focus, and the importance of teamwork, which have been crucial in navigating the challenges I have faced throughout my life. Beneath the surface of these achievements, I have dealt with the weight of melancholy and unhappiness, especially during COVID-19 and then again during my first year at college. Often invisible, and for several years, I felt like I had to hide it to maintain the image of a "successful" person. Despite doing well in school, excelling in sports, and participating in activities like Scouts, I sometimes felt a deep sense of isolation and sadness. This was not something I could easily talk about or share with others, especially when it seemed like everything on the outside was going well. The sadness affected me in numerous ways, from struggling with motivation to feeling overwhelmed by even the smallest of tasks. It was not that I lacked ambition or drive, (I have always had big dreams and goals) but the weight of everyday life and expectations made it harder to stay focused and energized. There were times when it felt like the darkness would never lift, and I questioned whether I was capable of achieving the things I had set out to do. Despite these struggles, I never turned to drugs or any other harmful substances to cope. Instead, I leaned on healthier outlets like sports, which provided a much-needed distraction and release. Lacrosse, in particular, was a way for me to channel my energy and frustrations in a positive direction. Being a goalie required immense mental fortitude, and learning to handle the pressure on the field helped me build the resilience to manage my emotions off the field as well. The hurdles I have faced have been both internal and external. Being worrisome while trying to meet the high expectations I set for myself was one of the hardest challenges. I also faced the societal stigma that often surrounded this issue, which made it harder to seek help and talk about my feelings openly; but through support from family, friends, and personal growth, I have learned how to manage my analytical health better and keep moving forward. Now, I am at a place in my life where I am ready to fully pursue my passions. My experiences have not only made me stronger but have also given me a deep understanding of the importance of perseverance. I am excited to channel that resilience into my education and future career in Agriculture, knowing that I can overcome whatever challenges come my way. Obtaining a college degree has always been a goal of mine, and I am ready to take the next step, fueled by the lessons I have learned and the hurdles I have overcome.

To me, recovery is the process of regaining balance, strength, and stability after facing a challenge or setback. It could be physical, mental, emotional, or even economic. Recovery is not just about returning to a previous state but often involves growth, learning, and adapting to new realities. It means healing from the inside out, whether from illness, injury, or a difficult experience. Recovery is a journey, not an immediate fix. It requires patience, effort, and resilience. For example, in personal health, recovery might involve building better habits and embracing self-care to prevent further setbacks. In emotional recovery, it is about processing difficult feelings and moving forward with a greater understanding of oneself. In a broader sense, such as environmental or economic recovery, it involves rebuilding systems more sustainably and thoughtfully. Ultimately, recovery is about progress, not perfection. It is the commitment to continual improvement, even in the face of difficulties, and understanding that setbacks are part of the journey toward a better, more resilient state.

Moreover, this business will enable a community of environmentally conscious farmers who are committed to protecting the planet while providing high-quality products. As this community grows, it will create a ripple effect, encouraging more farmers to adopt tolerable practices and educating consumers about the importance of supporting sustainable agriculture. The desire to be an entrepreneur stems from my passion for innovation and problem-solving. I am driven by the idea of creating something meaningful that can address real-world challenges and make a positive impact. Entrepreneurship offers the freedom to think creatively, take risks, and turn ideas into concrete solutions that can benefit others. I believe that entrepreneurship is a powerful tool for change. I can directly influence the direction and values of my business, ensuring that it aligns with my commitment to sustainability and moral practices. This level of control and responsibility is both challenging and rewarding, pushing me to constantly learn and grow. Throughout my journey so far, I have learned that being an entrepreneur requires resilience, adaptability, and a willingness to learn from failures. While gaining valuable insights into the importance of market research, customer feedback, and building a strong network of mentors and peers I have also realized that passion alone is not enough; it must be associated with a solid business plan, a deep understanding of the industry, and the ability to execute effectively. These lessons have reinforced my commitment to my business idea and my belief that entrepreneurship is the right path for me. By combining the knowledge of agribusiness and environmental sustainability with the skills gained as an Eagle Scout and a student, I am confident in my ability to build a successful and impactful business.

As a January 2022 Eagle Scout, I led a team of scouts in organizing a community service project to revitalize a local nature center by constructing a 400-square-foot spider web climbing apparatus. A project of this size involved several challenges, including coordinating schedules, working around weather events, securing funding and resources, motivating team members, and most importantly - the COVID pandemic. The first main challenge was obtaining permission from the troop and Eagle Scout board as well as local authorities, including the county parks and recreation department, to carry out the project. Many hurdles stood in our way, and convincing stakeholders of the project's value required persuasive communication and negotiation skills. Moreover, I completed my project during the COVID-19 pandemic - that itself was a project in its entirety. From masking up and staying six feet apart, to food distribution, and even to hand sanitizer after coughing and sneezing - I thought the project would never end! To overcome these challenges, I employed several strategies. First, I organized regular meetings with team members to keep everyone informed and motivated. Clear communication was crucial in ensuring that everyone understood their roles and responsibilities. Second, I reached out to local businesses and organizations for donations and sponsorships. By highlighting the positive impact the project would have on the community, I was able to secure financial support and in-kind donations from relatives and immediate family members (aka, my parents). Finally, I leveraged the skills and expertise of team members by delegating tasks according to their strengths. Empowering team members to take ownership of specific aspects of the project increased their engagement and commitment. The impact of our work was significant. The revitalized nature center provided a safe and enjoyable space for families to gather and children to play. Additionally, the project fostered a sense of pride and camaraderie within the community, strengthening social bonds, encouraging future collaboration, and getting the locals out of the house and to one of the many county parks within driving distance. As a current Agriculture major, my previous scout and leadership skills have been a huge part of my life, especially during my second year of college. In my future career, I plan to apply the leadership skills I developed as an Eagle Scout to make a positive difference in my college and professional endeavors. Whether leading a team on a project or advocating for change within an organization, I will prioritize effective communication, collaboration, and servant leadership. By inspiring and empowering others, I aim to create meaningful impact and contribute to the greater good.

My name is Logan Koliscak and I am a current senior at Thomas S. Wootton High School in Rockville, Maryland. My educational goals include attending college next school year and majoring in Materials Science as a future Engineer. I would like to be remembered as a hard worker academically, a true teammate athletically, and an Eagle Scout morally. I have worked extremely hard over my 17 years of life to do good, do the right thing, and do my parents proud; however, when it comes right down to it, I must believe in myself and be proud of my accomplishments because no one did it but me. Sure, I had help along the way, but it came down to me doing what was necessary to achieve my goals, my dreams, and my ambitions. I am prepared, respectful, intelligent, determined, and engaged!

As per gratitude, I am appreciative of the opportunities I have encountered over the years, specifically earning the rank of Eagle Scout recently. Also, gratitude has proven to lessen my stress levels and problem-solving skills overall. Bold Community Activist Scholarship
By volunteering, I am able to effect positive change for the community in which I live. As an Eagle Scout, I have witnessed the positive change within a community in showing pride, creating involvement, and bringing neighbors together. Without a sense of volunteering, you are unable to forge bonds amongst one another bridging those gaps that may exist within a diverse region. Volunteering benefits everyone involved from individuals, to family members, to religious organizations, and into the business world. As a volunteer with over 350 hours of community service, I may not be able to help everyone, but I can help someone!

      Bold Love Yourself Scholarship
I love that I have achieved the rank of Eagle Scout after following my dream for the past 10 years. The rank of Eagle Scout is demanding, time-consuming, and at times relentless. My passion to achieve what only 4% of all scouts complete is something to be proud of. I worked hard over those years finishing a variety of merit badges, camping out in hot and cold weather, and most recently leading my pack as Senior Patrol Leader. To do and enjoy something is one thing, but to love an accomplishment as the newest Eagle Scout member within my pack says something about my commitment, tenacity, and overall passion as a Scout!

      JuJu Foundation Scholarship
My greatest inspiration in life is my parents. My mom and dad both work hard in order to provide me with a roof over my head, food on the table, and clothes on my back. They are by far not rich in their careers, but if I need something whether for school, scouts, or when playing lacrosse they both work extra in order to provide me the items that are needed for a sound life. As a food service worker and middle school teacher, my parents are the epitome of the middle-class American family. They get up early to start their days on the job and go to bed late after they tackle the mounting task of raising a teenage son. Even though we sometimes do not see eye-to-eye, they always ask how my day was and if I need help with my homework. Although I sometimes shrug them off, my parents always try and involve me with whatever they might be doing, or wherever they may be going just to spend time with me. I thank them for that! Although being a teenager is tough, being a parent is a lot tougher!

Future Leaders in Technology Scholarship - High School Award
Current and future engineers are viewed as the spine of modern-day society. The discovery and creativity that drives us forward are inspired by educating the mind of an engineer. Whether it is designing a building, constructing a satellite, or creating the means of transportation on the next space flight the work of an engineer is robust and experienced. This type of hands-on work satisfies my passion to build, design, and execute with the next generation of future engineers. The idea of seeing a project of mine come to life is what motivates my desire to become an engineer. Over several generations, engineers have formed some of the greatest, well-known innovations in areas such as health, defense, and space. My passion for materials engineering is seeing how the significant principles of Math, Physics, Chemistry, and other similar subject matters can be utilized to generate an innovative enterprise. I would love to solve and work on plights dealing with the armed forces, specifically on large defense items such as tanks, ships, and airplanes. During my high school life, extracurricular engagement has helped me develop a variety of skills. As a recent Eagle Scout recipient, I have been a part of numerous leadership positions within my current Boy Scout troop as well as with local Cub Scout packs. Similarly, as a future engineer, there are times where leadership and collaborative skills must expand and become the director in various projects. Additionally, interpersonal skills play a notable role in an engineer’s life due in fact to the required communication with new and experienced people. As an honor roll student, my skills will allow me to accept challenges with reliance and convey to discussions with new and innovative ideas. Teamwork, initiative, and hands-on skills are just some of the key abilities engineers must bear in order to be successful and that alone is why I want to become a materials engineer.
