I plan to study abroad to immerse myself in new environments, expand my language skills, and gain firsthand cultural experience. These opportunities will not only support my education but also prepare me to create meaningful connections across borders. My dream is to help others experience the world through language and culture, and I’m committed to building a career that reflects those values.

Coming from a single-parent, has taught me the value of resilience, responsibility, and hard work from a young age. My mom raised three children on her own, often having to make sacrifices just to keep things going. Watching her strength and determination inspired me to push through my own challenges, no matter how overwhelming they seemed. There were times when I didn’t have access to the same resources or opportunities as others, but instead of letting that hold me back, it motivated me to work even harder for my dreams. My experience has shaped the way I see the world. It’s made me more empathetic, especially toward people who are overlooked or underestimated simply because of their background. I know what it feels like to have to fight for your future, and that drives me to help others do the same. My dream is to work in a field where I can use language, communication, and cultural connection to break down barriers—whether that’s through becoming a tour guide, working abroad, or helping others navigate cross-cultural experiences. I’m already taking steps toward those goals. I’ve focused my academics on linguistics, foreign languages, and communication, and I plan to study abroad to gain real-world experience and deepen my understanding of different cultures. I also seek out opportunities to help others whenever I can—whether it’s tutoring, translating, or simply being a supportive friend or classmate. Every step I take is not just for me, but for the people in my life who showed me how to stay strong, and for those who may not yet believe in their own strength. In the future, I hope to use my background not as a limitation, but as a source of power—to inspire others and show that where you start doesn’t define where you can go.
      Wicked Fan Scholarship
I’m a fan of "Wicked" because it completely transformed how I see storytelling, identity, and the idea of what makes someone “good” or “bad.” The musical takes a well-known tale—the Wizard of Oz—and flips it on its head, giving voice to the misunderstood character of Elphaba, the so-called Wicked Witch. I love how "Wicked" explores themes like friendship, prejudice, power, and being true to yourself, all through powerful music and emotional depth. What really draws me in is Elphaba’s journey. She’s strong, intelligent, and compassionate, but judged unfairly because of how she looks and what people assume about her. That idea of being misunderstood or not fitting in is something I—and many others—can relate to. Her story reminds me that it's okay to stand out, to have strong beliefs, and to not change just to make others comfortable. Her anthem “Defying Gravity” gives me chills every time—it’s about breaking free from limits and embracing your own power, even if it means going against expectations. I’m also a fan of "Wicked" because of the deep and complex friendship between Elphaba and Glinda. They start off as opposites, but their bond evolves in a way that feels very real and emotional. It shows that people can grow together, even through conflict, and still have love and respect for one another. The music, the message, and the emotional storytelling of "Wicked" make it so much more than a Broadway show—it’s a reminder to look beyond the surface, question what we’re told, and find strength in being ourselves. That’s why I’m such a fan.
      Charli XCX brat Fan Scholarship
My favorite song on "BRAT" by Charli XCX is “So I” because of how emotionally raw, personal, and unexpectedly soft it is in contrast to the rest of the album’s hyper, club-forward energy. While much of "BRAT" is bold, chaotic, and confident—living in the space of online culture, fame, and digital overstimulation—“So I” stands out as a heartfelt and vulnerable moment. It’s a tribute to the late producer and artist SOPHIE, who was not only Charli’s collaborator but also a beloved figure in the pop and queer communities. The song feels like a gentle exhale in the middle of an album filled with loud expression. The production is stripped back, dreamy, and minimalistic, which makes the lyrics hit even harder. Charli’s voice feels almost fragile as she sings about grief, memory, and guilt. It’s not the kind of track that screams for attention, but that’s what makes it so powerful—it whispers straight to your heart. The simplicity of the song gives space for emotion to breathe. Lines like “I don’t know if I was a good friend / I don’t know if I was there enough” are brutally honest and relatable. Anyone who has lost someone they cared about can understand the kind of self-questioning and regret that shows up afterward. It’s a reminder that grief is not always loud—it can be quiet, slow, and confusing. “So I” resonates with me because it shows a different side of Charli, one that isn’t afraid to be still, reflective, and openly emotional. In the middle of an album that’s mostly bold and brash, this song brings in real human softness. It reminds me that vulnerability is just as powerful as confidence. Charli doesn’t pretend to have all the answers here—she’s just present in her sadness, which feels honest and deeply human. Personally, I connect with “So I” because I’ve had moments where I questioned how much I gave to people I’ve lost. Sometimes, especially in friendships, we get caught up in life and don’t realize how much someone meant to us until they’re gone. This song captures that feeling with grace and without drama. It doesn’t beg for attention—it just exists as a quiet goodbye. Overall, “So I” is my favorite song on "BRAT" because it balances the album’s bold energy with deep emotional grounding. It’s a moment of realness that makes everything else on the album feel even more alive. It shows Charli’s range—not just as a pop innovator but as a human being unafraid to share her heart.
      Abran Arreola-Hernandez Latino Scholarship
One of the most important and meaningful experiences in my life was traveling to Europe, where I had the opportunity to visit France, London, Heidelberg, Prague, Austria, and Berlin. It was my first time going abroad, and the impact it had on me was unforgettable. This trip not only expanded my view of the world but also deepened my understanding of who I am and what I want my future to look like. Each place I visited brought something unique to the experience. In Paris, I fell in love with the sound of the French language, the architecture, and the pace of life. I remember walking through the streets and being surrounded by art, history, and culture at every turn. London was a perfect mix of modern and traditional, and I admired how diverse and fast-moving the city felt. In Heidelberg, I was drawn to the small-town charm and the way the town was rich with history and nature. Prague felt like a dream—its buildings looked like something out of a storybook, and the city had a magical atmosphere that was both peaceful and full of life. Austria was elegant and full of classical beauty, and Berlin challenged me to think deeply about history, identity, and resilience as I stood in front of what remained of the Berlin Wall. What made this trip so powerful was not just the places I saw, but the way it made me feel. I felt connected to the world in a way I never had before. I realized how big the world is, but also how connected we all are through language, culture, and human experience. I was also reminded of how much I love language and communication. Even when I didn’t fully understand the words people were saying, I could feel what they meant through their tone, expressions, and energy. It made me want to learn more languages, not just for academic reasons, but to truly connect with people from different walks of life. Traveling through Europe gave me a clearer vision for my future. It confirmed my desire to study linguistics, foreign languages, and communication. I want to build a career where I can continue to explore different cultures, help others understand them, and use language as a way to bring people together. Whether that means being a tourist guide, working in cultural exchange, or something else, I know that I want to keep learning and connecting across borders. This experience also helped me grow personally. It challenged me to be more independent, confident, and open-minded. I stepped out of my comfort zone in so many ways—from navigating unfamiliar cities to trying new foods and embracing unfamiliar customs. It made me realize that I’m capable of more than I thought and that the world is full of opportunities if I stay curious and brave. This trip wasn’t just a vacation—it was a turning point. It shaped the way I see myself, my future, and the world around me.
      Billie Eilish Fan Scholarship
My top three Billie Eilish songs are “everything i wanted,” “idontwannabeyouanymore,” and “Getting Older.” Each one holds a special place in my heart because of how raw, honest, and emotionally layered they are. Billie has a way of putting feelings into words that I didn’t even know how to express, and these songs have helped me feel seen and understood at different points in my life. “everything i wanted” speaks to the quiet, often hidden side of success and self-worth. The line “I had a dream I got everything I wanted, but when I wake up, I see—you with me” captures how even when things seem perfect on the outside, there can still be inner struggles. It reminds me that support from the people who truly care about you matters more than external achievements. This song helped me through times when I felt overwhelmed or disconnected, reminding me to ground myself in the people who love me. “idontwannabeyouanymore” hits hard because of how brutally honest it is about insecurity and self-doubt. Billie’s lyrics reflect the way we often hide pain behind a confident front, especially when we feel like we’re not good enough. I’ve had moments where I’ve felt stuck inside my own head, second-guessing myself or comparing myself to others. This song gave me comfort because it put those silent thoughts into words—it was like someone understood what I was too scared to say out loud. “Getting Older” is my favorite from her "Happier Than Ever" album because it reflects the bittersweet truth about growing up. It talks about change, loss, and how experiences shape you—good and bad. The line “Things I once enjoyed just keep me employed now” made me reflect on how responsibilities sometimes take the joy out of things we used to love. This song is a reminder that growing older doesn’t mean losing yourself—it means learning to carry your experiences with you and growing from them. These songs resonate with me because they don’t try to sugarcoat anything. Billie Eilish expresses emotions that many people are afraid to confront, and she does it in a way that’s both poetic and relatable. Through her music, I’ve learned it’s okay to be vulnerable, to not always be okay, and to keep going anyway.
      Sabrina Carpenter Superfan Scholarship
I’m a fan of Sabrina Carpenter because she represents confidence, creativity, and growth in a way that feels genuine and relatable. I’ve followed her journey from her early acting roles to becoming a powerful voice in pop music, and what stands out most is how fearlessly she owns her story. Her lyrics are clever, honest, and full of personality, touching on everything from heartbreak to self-love, and they’ve helped me feel seen during moments of doubt or transition in my own life. What I admire most is how Sabrina has evolved without losing her authenticity. She doesn’t let criticism define her, and instead turns it into art, humor, and self-expression. That mindset has inspired me to embrace who I am, imperfections and all. As someone chasing a future built around communication and language, I’m especially drawn to how she plays with words and emotion through her music. Sabrina’s career reminds me that growth isn’t linear, that we’re allowed to change, and that our voices matter. Seeing her use hers unapologetically has encouraged me to speak up more, dream bigger, and show up for myself with confidence. Her journey motivates me to be bold in my own—and to keep going, even when it’s hard.
Sloane Stephens Doc & Glo Scholarship
I come from a background where opportunities didn’t always come easily, but I learned early on that my passion and determination could take me far. I grew up in an environment that taught me to work hard, stay grounded, and always stay curious. One of the things I became most curious about was language. Even as a child, I was fascinated by the way people expressed themselves, and how different words, tones, and expressions could completely change the way a message was received. This curiosity grew into a true passion for linguistics, communication, and foreign languages. As I got older, I realized that my interest in language was about more than just words—it was about connection. I love the way language can bridge cultural gaps and bring people together, even when they come from completely different worlds. This is why I’ve chosen to study linguistics and communication. I want to understand the science behind how we communicate and use that knowledge in real, practical ways. I’ve always had a desire to travel and experience the world beyond my own community, and studying foreign languages has opened up that door. I plan to study abroad during college so I can immerse myself in different cultures and gain a deeper understanding of how language shapes people’s experiences. My ultimate goal is to work in a career that allows me to use my language skills daily. I hope to become a tourist guide or work in a multicultural, international setting where I can help people explore new places and cultures. I believe language has the power to make people feel welcomed, understood, and valued. That’s the kind of impact I want to have in my career—making the world more connected through communication. Some of the experiences that have shaped me include helping classmates understand language assignments, exploring new cultures through books, music, and media, and seeking out opportunities to meet people from different backgrounds. These experiences have taught me that listening is just as powerful as speaking. Understanding someone else’s story, even when it’s told in a language different from your own, is one of the most human things we can do. Being a first-generation college student and coming from a low-income background has also shaped who I am. It has given me resilience, humility, and a deep appreciation for every opportunity I earn. I’ve learned how to advocate for myself, stay focused on my goals, and use my voice to build the future I want. Today, I’m proud of the path I’ve taken. I may not have had everything handed to me, but I’ve always had passion, purpose, and the drive to grow. My journey is just beginning, but I’m excited for the future and everything I’ll learn along the way. I’m ready to keep growing, keep exploring, and keep using language to bring people together—one word, one story, and one connection at a time.

Throughout my high school career, I have actively sought opportunities to positively impact my community, driven by a commitment to service, a passion for connecting with others, and a desire to make a meaningful difference. These experiences, combined with my academic pursuits, have shaped my understanding of community needs and have inspired me to develop skills and strategies for addressing them. One of the most rewarding ways I have contributed to my community is through my involvement with Best Buddies. By building friendships with individuals with intellectual and developmental disabilities, I have promoted inclusivity, broken down stereotypes, and created a more welcoming and accepting environment for all members of our school community. I have also volunteered my time to support local organizations that provide services to underserved populations, such as food banks, homeless shelters, and after-school programs for at-risk youth. Through these experiences, I have gained firsthand knowledge of the challenges faced by vulnerable members of our community and have developed a deep appreciation for the importance of social justice. My academic pursuits have also equipped me with skills and knowledge that I can use to contribute to my community. In AP Government and AP Macroeconomics, I have learned about the complex issues facing our society, such as poverty, inequality, and environmental degradation. I have also developed critical thinking skills that enable me to analyze these issues from multiple perspectives and to identify potential solutions. My passion for languages, nurtured through French club and foreign language classes, gives me the ability to connect with a diverse range of people and broaden my understanding of various cultures. Looking ahead, I plan to continue contributing to my community through my skills, experiences, and education. As I pursue my undergraduate studies in linguistics and communications, I intend to seek out opportunities to apply my knowledge to real-world problems. I am particularly interested in working with organizations that promote cross-cultural understanding, advocate for social justice, or provide services to marginalized communities. I envision myself volunteering as a translator or interpreter, helping to bridge communication gaps between immigrants and refugees and the services they need. I also hope to use my communication skills to raise awareness about important social issues and to advocate for policy changes that will benefit our community. My ultimate goal is to use my education and skills to empower others, to create a more just and equitable society, and to build a stronger, more vibrant community for all. I am committed to continuing this journey and to making a lasting difference in the lives of those around me.
      Chris Ford Scholarship
I am a driven and resourceful individual who thrives on connecting with others and embracing new challenges. Growing up in a single-parent household and frequently moving schools taught me resilience, adaptability, and the importance of building meaningful relationships wherever I go. These experiences have shaped my values and fueled my passion for leadership, service, and cultural exchange. As a secretary for the National Honor Society (NHS) and an officer in French Club, I’ve had the opportunity to organize events, lead initiatives, and inspire others to contribute to their communities. These roles have strengthened my organizational skills, sharpened my ability to collaborate with others, and deepened my commitment to making a positive impact. In the future, I plan to combine my love for travel, communication, and business by pursuing a career as a global tour guide and interpreter while building a business that promotes cultural exchange. My vision is to create a company that offers immersive travel experiences, connecting people across cultures through storytelling, history, and shared traditions. By fostering understanding and appreciation for diversity, I hope to break down barriers and encourage unity in an increasingly interconnected world. Through this work, I aim to help people see the beauty in different perspectives while building bridges between communities. Beyond cultural exchange, I plan to use my business platform to support communities in need. For example, I want to partner with local artisans, small businesses, and community organizations in the regions I work with. By providing them with opportunities to showcase their crafts and talents to a global audience, I can help uplift local economies while ensuring that tourism remains sustainable and respectful of cultural heritage. This approach not only promotes economic empowerment but also creates lasting positive impacts on the communities involved. My career goals are deeply rooted in my belief that education and understanding can transform lives. Whether it’s helping someone discover the beauty of another culture or providing economic opportunities through my business ventures, I want to be a catalyst for meaningful change. My experiences have taught me that even small efforts can ripple outward to create larger impacts. By combining business innovation with cultural exchange, I hope to inspire others to embrace the richness of our world while contributing positively to its growth. Ultimately, I see my future career as more than just a profession—it’s a way to connect people, celebrate diversity, and uplift communities. Through creativity, empathy, and hard work, I’m committed to making a lasting impact on the world.
      First-Gen Futures Scholarship
I have chosen to pursue higher education because I believe it is a powerful tool for personal growth, breaking generational barriers, and creating opportunities to make a meaningful impact on the world. As a first-generation college student, I see education not just as a pathway to a career but as a way to honor my family’s sacrifices and build a better future for myself and those around me. Growing up in a single-parent household, I witnessed firsthand the challenges of financial hardship and limited access to resources. These experiences instilled in me a deep appreciation for the value of education and a determination to use it as a means of achieving stability, independence, and the ability to give back to my community. Preparing for college as a first-generation student has required resilience, resourcefulness, and proactive effort. Without family members who could guide me through the process, I took it upon myself to seek out information and support. I worked closely with school counselors to navigate applications, financial aid forms, and scholarship opportunities. Additionally, I joined programs like the National Honor Society (NHS), where I served as secretary, taking on leadership roles that helped me develop organizational and communication skills essential for college success. These experiences taught me how to manage responsibilities, work collaboratively with others, and balance academics with extracurricular commitments. To strengthen my academic foundation, I challenged myself with rigorous coursework, including Advanced Placement (AP) classes, which prepared me for the demands of higher education. I also sought out opportunities to expand my horizons through cultural and community activities. As an officer in French Club, I explored global perspectives and developed an appreciation for diversity—qualities that will enhance my ability to thrive in a college environment. Volunteering in my community further reinforced my commitment to service and taught me the importance of empathy and leadership. Being a first-generation student has also shaped my mindset. I’ve learned to embrace challenges as opportunities for growth and to advocate for myself when faced with obstacles. These lessons have prepared me not only academically but also emotionally for the transition to college life. Ultimately, pursuing higher education is about more than earning a degree—it’s about fulfilling my potential and using my knowledge to create positive change. My goal is to become a global tour guide and interpreter, connecting people across cultures and languages while fostering understanding and unity. Higher education is the key that will unlock this dream, enabling me to build a future that honors my past while shaping a brighter tomorrow.
      First-Gen Flourishing Scholarship
Growing up in a single-parent household while frequently moving homes and schools has been one of the most significant challenges I’ve faced. Each move brought the difficulty of adjusting to new environments, making friends, and catching up on different curriculums. The instability often made it hard to feel grounded, but it also taught me resilience, adaptability, and the importance of building connections wherever I go. Instead of letting these challenges hold me back, I learned to approach each new situation with an open mind and a willingness to work hard. These experiences have shaped my personal growth, making me more empathetic, resourceful, and determined to succeed. This constant change influenced my outlook on education by showing me its transformative power. Education became my anchor—a way to find stability and opportunities despite the obstacles I faced. It taught me that knowledge is not only a tool for personal success but also a way to make a difference in the lives of others. My involvement as NHS secretary and a French Club officer has allowed me to use my education to give back to my community. For example, organizing food drives and leading initiatives taught me how collaboration and service can address real-world issues like hunger and inequality. These experiences have deepened my belief in the importance of using education not just for self-improvement but for creating positive change. One particularly meaningful experience was organizing a school-wide food drive as part of NHS. My role involved coordinating logistics, promoting the event to peers, and ensuring donations were distributed efficiently to families in need. This initiative embodied values I deeply admire—service, compassion, and unity—and reminded me that even small efforts can create lasting impacts in the community. Similarly, as a French Club officer, I worked on projects that celebrated cultural diversity and encouraged students to explore global perspectives, reinforcing my belief in the importance of understanding and appreciating differences. Looking ahead, I plan to use my education to impact the world by pursuing a career as a global tour guide and interpreter. This path will allow me to connect people across cultures and languages, fostering understanding and unity in an increasingly interconnected world. My passion for travel and communication stems from my experiences growing up—learning to adapt to new environments has fueled my desire to help others bridge cultural gaps. By sharing stories, histories, and traditions from around the globe, I hope to inspire others to appreciate diversity and celebrate what makes us unique. Ultimately, overcoming these challenges has shown me that even in the face of obstacles, education is a powerful tool for growth and change. It has shaped me into someone who values resilience, community, and connection—qualities I will carry forward as I strive to make a meaningful impact on the world.
      Lucent Scholarship
Watching 4-year-old Bella from Moscow on YouTube in 2017, when I was just 10 years old, sparked my initial interest in communicating in different languages with people from around the world. Bella’s ability to speak Russian fluently while interacting with her international audience intrigued me. As I watched her engage with people from various countries, I realized the power of language as a bridge between cultures. This curiosity about communication and its role in connecting people around the world ignited my desire to learn different languages. Over time, my passion for languages grew stronger. I immersed myself in learning more about languages, not just through books and courses, but also through media. I watched K-Dramas, listened to multilingual music, and explored foreign films and TV shows. These activities allowed me to experience the rhythms and nuances of different languages, especially those I couldn’t understand at first. To deepen my understanding, I enrolled in Chinese, Korean, French, and Spanish courses. My goal wasn’t just to speak these languages, but to appreciate the cultures behind them. I wanted to be able to read books, listen to music, and watch movies in their original form without relying on translations or subtitles. This experience fueled my fascination with language pronunciation, regional dialects, and the rich history embedded in each language. However, it was when I began to think more deeply about the origins of language that my interest truly peaked. How did humans decide what words meant what? What made certain sounds evolve into specific meanings? I spent hours researching linguistic history, trying to understand how the first languages were born and how they have shaped the world today. This intellectual curiosity led me to recognize the essential role language plays in shaping culture, identity, and communication. Today, my passion for understanding different cultures remains a central part of my life. It has influenced my decision to major in Linguistics and Foreign Language, areas where I can continue to explore the complexities of communication. I believe that language is more than just a tool for interaction; it is the foundation of empathy and understanding. All people deserve to be understood, and language is the key to bridging the gaps between us. How many conflicts and misunderstandings have arisen due to language barriers? My goal is to be part of the solution. By learning multiple languages and understanding the cultures they represent, I can serve as a bridge, fostering greater understanding, respect, and growth between people from different backgrounds.
