I'm Louis Jean Josué, a Haitian international student pursuing a career as a social entrepreneur. Because of a lack of educational resources, learning in Haiti remains one of the most difficult difficulties to overcome and the reason why I devoted myself to seek for sustainable solutions. I arrived to the United States as an international student and am now an active member of Phi Theta Kappa and the Seneff Honors College via hard work and devotion. I currently speak French, Creole, English, and Spanish, and I'm learning Japanese and Portuguese. As a volunteer at Second Harvest Food Bank of Central Florida, I got the chance to serve others while also learning about the value of social work, which is important to my career goals.

Hasanovic American Dream Scholarship
To me, the "American Dream" is realizing that everything is earned by hard effort and devotion and that as foreigners, we owe it to ourselves and to our people to make a difference and recognize that there are no handouts and that great possibilities are not given but seized.
My upbringing in a third-world country meant that performing well academically was one of the hardest challenges I had to overcome and fight through throughout my developmental process. The main reasons for my interest in social entrepreneurship are to investigate ways to improve my community, advocate for gender equality, and challenge political, economic, social, and environmental issues that could have a lasting impact on our communities.
For the past few months, I've been volunteering at Second Harvest Food Bank of Central Florida, and it has been life-changing for me. I've learned how to take on leadership responsibilities and interact with diverse groups of people. As I aspire to be a social entrepreneur, volunteering at Second Harvest has given me a greater grasp of the necessary components of social work. To me, this experience is about making a difference in many people's lives and assisting the various families that rely on the fantastic job that Second Harvest does.
Through the scholarship, I am able to lower the cost of my studies. With a broad understanding of psychology, finance, the world of charity, and more, I will be able to build a network and develop my voice in my community.
