John Young 'Pursue Your Passion' Scholarship
As a woman aspiring to be a journalism, I view my college education as a powerful tool that will enable me to make a positive impact on my local and global community. Journalism to me is more than just reporting news; I look at it as an opportunity to amplify voices, share stories, open discussions, and debate about change. Throughout my journey as an undergrad student who will pursue even higher education in the future, I hope to develop the skills, knowledge, and perspective needed to be an effective storyteller. Shedding light on the untold stories within my community.
I believe my college education will equip me with the necessary skills of being able to do research, writing and interviewing techniques, which are all fundamental parts of creating compelling and accurate narratives. By using these skills, I can uncover hidden stories, bring attention to issues that may have been overlooked or somewhat left out the picture. My commitment to truth and accuracy is important in fostering an informed society, and empowering individuals to make informed decisions that contribute to a community’s well-being.
Furthermore, my college education will allow me to see diversity perspectives, fostering an understanding to social, and cultural issues. Looking at situations in a broadened picture is essential for journalists. By breaking barriers and expectations, I hope to inspire other young black women to pursue careers they haven’t thought they could work in, fostering a new generation of voices that reflect the diversity of our communities.
I am confident my education will provide opportunities to network and connect with professionals who can guide and support my journey. Building these relationships is essential for journalists as it opens doors to collaboration and mentorship that can enhance my experiences and allow me gain valuable insights from others in the field. Additionally, by upholding these standards – I can contribute to a media world that promotes social justice, and advocates for the wellbeing of the community.
In conclusion, my college education is not just a pathway to personal growth and professional success; it is a commitment to positive change within my community. As an aspiring journalist, I’ve noticed that perspective gained through education really widens exposure and understanding to how things are done in society, being able to foster a more inclusive and informed society. Through storytelling, I aspire to share stories that resonate with the experiences of my community and those neighboring, ultimately contributing to a positive and transformative impact.
