Bio

I am a mother of four amazing boys and raise them alongside my husband. I returned to school at the age of 40 and although it has been a hard journey I would not trade it for anything. I am passionate about education and helping others and that is one of the reasons I want to pursue my dream of becoming a nurse. I have been accepted into the nursing school and have started my first semester 1/10/22. My hard work and dedication have paid off and I will be able to skip the first semester and obtain my RN license in 16 months! I will be starting a new semester in September 2022 and the previous semester was definitely the most difficult for my family and I with the long hours of classes, homework, clinical rotations and my full time job. Once I obtain my nursing license I would love to work in the pediatric cancer transplant unit at the hospital I currently work at. Once I have a solid foundation I will continue my education towards a bachelors in nursing. I’m passionate about the environment and sustainability. I encourage others to educate themselves on the little things we can all do to leave a smaller carbon footprint. I believe that being bold includes putting yourself out in the community and facing you fears of going back to school later in life.

My family came to the United States in 1981 when I was five years old from Guadalajara, Mexico. They wanted my brother and me have to more opportunities here and uprooted everything to come to Utah. I struggled a little bit to find my true passion in life and find out what I wanted to do long-term with my career. I began working at Primary Children's Hospital as an assistant in the Care Management Department and was motivated by nurses there to go back to school and earn a nursing degree. My husband and I have 4 boys ranging in age from 14-24 years old. My family and I knew it was going to be difficult to cut back on my hours and go to school full time and without their support, I would not have been able to accomplish it. I received an associate's degree from the community college to complete the prerequisites for nursing school. I started going part-time for 3 years and realized I needed to go full-time to complete my degree sooner. Once I met the requirements I applied for nursing school to begin January 2022. I graduated from nursing school in April 2023 and I am so excited to begin my new career. I took 6 months off of school and was able to get my BSN in five months. This has been a major accomplishment for me and I am so proud that I have done it. I was working at Primary Children's Hospital in the cancer transplant unit with immunocompromised children. Their strength and positivity when faced with a difficult diagnosis are something to be admired for and give me a sense of hope and positivity. I then transitioned to working in the Care Management department at Primary Children's in order to have a better work life balance with my family. I have volunteered at Safe Harbor which is a shelter for abused women and their children. I learned so much about the resources available to everyone and sadly not very many people out in the community are aware of these resources. They stay in unhealthy relationships and environments since they do now know of all of the amazing resources available to them. I also volunteered at Primary Children's Hospital during the Angel Tree drive sorting donations for children during Christmas time. It is amazing how much the community gives to those that are not as fortunate. The donation room was packed full of clothes, toys and necessities for all ages. We have all sacrificed so much these past few years while I have been in school. I missed out on many camping trips, day hikes and dinner with family during my time in school. Making memories with loved ones is one the most important things to me as spending time with those we cherish. Thank you for your consideration.

I have continued to work while going to nursing school to keep our health insurance benefits at a lower cost. During the past two years, I have accrued student debt that feels very overwhelming. I have been making interest payments since I started nursing school and will increase my monthly payment as much as I can to pay off my debt sooner. I have applied for several scholarships, but have not been picked as a recipient. Once I have completed school and become a licensed nurse I will work extra shifts and use the extra money to pay off my student loans sooner. I also volunteered at Primary Children's Hospital during the Angel Tree drive sorting donations for children during Christmas time. It is amazing how much the community gives to those that are not as fortunate. The donation room was packed full of clothes, toys and necessities for all ages. My mission for joining the healthcare industry is to provide safe compassionate care to my clients. I want to continue working at Primary Children's Hospital in the cancer transplant unit with immunocompromised children. Their strength and positivity when faced with a difficult diagnosis are something to be admired for and give me a sense of hope and positivity. Making a difference to these families is so rewarding to me and am looking forward to easing the difficulty of these diagnoses for everyone involved. Thank you for your consideration.

Once I get to experience working as a nurse, I will go back to school to get my BSN in nursing. This has been a major accomplishment for me and I am so proud that I have done it. I want to continue working at Primary Children's Hospital in the cancer transplant unit with immunocompromised children. The pediatric population is amazing and it is uplifting to see how much support they have from their families and caretakers. Their strength and positivity when faced with a difficult diagnosis are something to be admired for and give me a sense of hope and positivity. I have worked with the families on this unit during my time in Care Management and I have grown to know the children and their families. Although there is some loss of life the positive outcomes far outweigh those. I have learned so much about the resources available to this population and I believe I would help families to navigate some of the lesser-known resources out there to help them. I am very passionate about pediatrics, especially those that are battling cancer and will continue my education to become certified in administering chemotherapy drugs. Thank you for your consideration.

Their strength and positivity when faced with a difficult diagnosis are something to be admired for and give me a sense of hope and positivity. With the money saved by reducing my student debt, I will make memories with my family. We have all sacrificed so much these past two years. I missed out on many camping trips, day hikes and dinner with family during my time in school. Making memories with loved ones is one the most important things to me as spending time with those we cherish. Thank you for your consideration.

I currently have a 1 1/2 year old Australian Shepherd and she brings me so much joy. Gaia is the sweetest dog and is timid with strangers. I love to do everything with her and one of our favorite things is to go on hikes. She helps me so much everyday and reminds me to take time out each day to enjoy the moment, no matter how small. When I am busy and stressed she is there to help me to slow down and appreciate what we have.

The Tattooist of Auschwitz is one of the most inspiring books I have read. To read about what some prisoners had to do to survive in the concentration camps, what they were put through and the fact that they still believe in the goodness of people. They continue to trust and love even with all the evil they have seen and survived against all odds. It is a powerful reminder of how strong the human spirit is and what we are able to persevere in the most difficult situations of life. The human will we have in us to continue fighting when it seems there will not be an escape. It has reminded me to never give up and to always believe there is something bigger and better for us. Even while they were in the concentration camps, they found love and never gave up hope that they would escape and able to live out their lives together.
